I'm on top of the world: Rahman after Oscar nominations IANS | Thursday, 22 January , 2009, 21:15 Music maestro Alla Rakha Rahman, who has become the first Indian artiste to get Oscar nomination in the main category for his score in Slumdog Millionaire, says he is very excited and thanks the nation for its best wishes. I love this film. The nominations have given me a great feeling. My inspiration to compose the music was the movie itself, its thought and the message in the film, Rahman told a TV channel after the nominations were disclosed by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles, US. Everyone has worked very hard for the film and I am actually feeling on top of the world right now. I want to thank everyone for their wishes, he added during a chat with Times Now TV news channel. Rahman has three Oscar nominations, including one for best original score and for two songs in the film - Jai ho and O saya. Directed by British filmmaker Danny Boyle, Slumdog Millionaire got seven more nominations including for best director, best picture and best adapted screenplay. The beauty of music is that we don't think about awards while creating it. I'm very happy that I'm with my family at the moment. All members of the film are very excited. It will surely be a great energy booster for all the musicians in the country, said Rahman, whose latest offering Delhi - 6 is ruling the charts.

Delhi 6 has been Directed by the Rang De Basanti fame Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and the lyrics on this one are also by the lyricist Prasoon Joshi . Prasoon didn't do a good job in Ghajini apart from few songs . Talking of this album , I would like to make it pretty much clear that it is more of a film soundtrack and would look fabulous in the film along with the story . When I rated Yuvvraj a little less people argued with me saying that it is very different and deserves to be rated higher . For me Different is not always necessarily a Good Different . Why I say so ? Because on the contrary Delhi 6 it is not only different but also great being different . This soundtrack is very unusual in the sense that it has been entirely made keeping the film in mind and hasn't given any attention to commercial success . And usually when this is done the album not only succeeds but also becomes a very integral part of the film . Listening to the songs from the album I could almost imagine the film in my mind and though I first listened to the songs at 1 o clock in night so I wont say that the songs made my day , I would rather say the Songs made my night . One thing I promise to you guys the film is going to be very different as it is the case with Rakeysh's film and maybe this time also you would walk back home with a nice entertaining lesson like you might have in Rang De Basanti . Enough about the film , lets talk about the songs . The soundtrack opens with a completely classical rendition in the form of Bhor Bhayi . The song is entirely a classical rendition and quite refreshing , taking us back to our roots . This is what Indian classical music is all about and if you like classical music then only this song is for you . For a music lover like me anything classical like this is always a treat . And among the female singers in the industry who is better than Shreya for classical songs . A very pleasing song in the beginning of the soundtrack and would again look fabulous in the film . The track begins with Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan and Gujri Todi singing in their impeccable style and later Shreya joins him . Music wise a really nice Indian classical rendition with the use of Tabla and Harmonium . Next comes the song that is catching popularity like fire , Masakalli . The song who don't know is based on the white Kabutar (Dove sounds so boring) that you see in the promos . Masakalli is the name of Kabutar and after more than a decade we have song on Kabutar , last one being Kabutar Ja Ja in Maine Pyaar Kiya . The song has been sung by Mohit Chauhan of Jab We Met fame is definately a find and he has to go a long way . The music and lyrics are

The opening track, 'Kabhi Aditi' sets the mood for an enchanting musical ride ahead. This is one song that you will carry on your lips as you trail ahead or even make it your caller tune (like I did). And don't be surprised if it silently reminds you of 'Musu Musu' from 'Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi sans the spunk. Pappu Can't Dance is a dance number with all the needful grooves that qualify as the next sensational DJ favourite. Jaane Tu Meri Kya Hai' is as soulful as it can be without sounding depressing. Simply put, very contemporary, as if churned out to transport the listener to a world of his own - that 'Jaane Tu's' music. Lyrics With Abbas Tyrewala at the wheel, there's little scope for complaining, but there's always scope for more, we believe. Without any heavy use of language, the simple lines snuggle into what the music demands. What surprises me about Kabhi Kabhi is the effortless lyrics that sound rhythmic and yet not stagnant. Unlike the traditional roothna manana ganas, this one's closely appealing when it says 'maana saara jaahan mein kabhi kabhi andhera hota hai and further claims that, lekin raat ke baad hi toh savera hota hai. Convincing isn't it? Apparently Pappu Can't Dance' is a knowledgeable dig at Salman Khan, which goes like Hai muscular, hai popular... But Pappu Can't Dance saala. Oh, dear, real pity, you see. But the lyrics are so catchy that I am sure party animals would scream the same lines the next time they hit the dance floor.. Nazrein Milana' retains a good feel around it, thanks to the lyrics that remind you of the campus setting. Main Bolu talks of how two people say the same things with a different perspective - the glass is half full or half empty, you decide. Vocals In another line of firsts, Rahman introduces Rashid Ali who invokes life to Jai's non-violent character and lends his youthful voice in two noteworthy tracks. Rashid's voice bears an uncanny resemblance to our very own KK, who popularized a similar style. The two versions, Jaane Tu Meri Kya Hai' evidently drowns you in pensive emotions, courtesy Runa Rizvi and Sukhwinder Singh as Jai and Aditi respectively. What's the album without the music director himself donning the microphone. As anyone would have expected, Rahman reserved the most anticipated track, Main Bolu for himself. The track incidentally captures the essence of the two protagonists' clash of ideas - also the theme of the movie. But before you can accuse him of being selfish, we also trust his decision of treating a song the way he wants it. After trying her luck with action, you have Vasundhara Das finally doing what she's good at - singing. You will hear her accompany Rashid Ali in the foot tapping 'Kahin To Hogi Woh. In seven original tracks and one remix, you have immense scope for musical romance, some purposeful masti and all that jazz. Without much promises, A.R.Rahman stirs his musical wand yet again. Music After delivering his potential best with period films last, we wondered if he had lost tracks of his experimental subjects. Fortunately, we get to listen to a fresh set of tracks with the quintessential 'Rahman' touch that stands out as his signature mark. The opening track, 'Kabhi Aditi' sets the mood for an enchanting musical ride ahead. This is one song that you will carry on your lips as you trail ahead or even make it your caller tune (like I did). And don't be surprised if it silently reminds you of 'Musu Musu' from 'Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi sans the spunk. Pappu Can't Dance is a dance number with all the needful grooves that qualify as the next sensational DJ favourite. Jaane Tu Meri Kya Hai' is as soulful as it can be without sounding depressing. Simply put, very contemporary, as if churned out to transport the listener to a world of his own - that 'Jaane Tu's' music. Lyrics With Abbas Tyrewala at the wheel, there's little scope for complaining, but there's always scope for more, we believe. Without any heavy use of language, the simple lines snuggle into what the music demands. What surprises me about Kabhi Kabhi is the effortless lyrics that sound rhythmic and yet not stagnant. Unlike the traditional roothna manana ganas, this one's closely appealing when it says 'maana saara jaahan mein kabhi kabhi andhera hota hai and further claims that, lekin raat ke baad hi toh savera hota hai. Convincing isn't it? Apparently Pappu Can't Dance' is a knowledgeable dig at Salman Khan, which goes like Hai muscular, hai popular... But Pappu Can't Dance saala. Oh, dear, real pity, you see. But the lyrics are so catchy that I am sure party animals would scream the same lines the next time they hit the dance floor.. Nazrein Milana' retains a good feel around it, thanks to the lyrics that remind you of the campus setting. Main Bolu talks of how two people say the same things with a different perspective - the glass is half full or half empty, you decide. Vocals In another line of firsts, Rahman introduces Rashid Ali who invokes life to Jai's non-violent character and lends his youthful voice in two noteworthy tracks. Rashid's voice bears an uncanny resemblance to our very own KK, who popularized a similar style. The two versions, Jaane Tu Meri Kya Hai' evidently drowns you in pensive emotions, courtesy Runa Rizvi and Sukhwinder Singh as Jai and Aditi respectively. But here, it will be totally a different thing altogether. Singing in a studio, learning the song, and then recording in front of him is an experience in itself. In the previous contest when I sang in front of him, I was more of a contestant who knew nothing, but today I am actually more or less going to perform in front of him as a playback singer, that too with others in the background who are also playback singers. So I am expecting a total different experience. From these comments, one thing is sure, the show seems to have its objective right. hi you are very right. actually ghajini suttum vizhi is no great song, in the sense it is not at all a difficult song to sing and nothing great ragam or so. as you said MAYILARAGAE is difficult and very melodious, beautifully sung by madhushree and naresh iyer. Naresh iyer has been awarded best playback singer in HUB AWARD for this song though he has sung only one song last year. JUST AMAZING. is it because arr song is not promoted properly. Rahman. Rahman is in habit of making good music and drawing the best out of singers. Naresh was among the top 25 in Channel V's Super Singer contest. Besides Roobaroo, Naresh has sung two other songs in the movie. One is the fun-filled Masti Ki Pathshala and the other a soft romantic number Tum Bin with Madhushree. Before this, Naresh had sung a Tamil song Mailiregae. While judging the Super Singer contest, A. R. Rahman had promised to make Naresh sing in films. But Naresh was quite sceptical about it.
