Re: AD Integration

2013-04-12 Thread Hullule, Kiran
Karthick,

Please remove these 2 lines from your ar.cfg and restart AR Service to see the
results:

AREA-Hub-Plugin: my_area_plug-in.dll
Plugin: areahub.dll

Plugin server thinks your arealdap plugin is setup for hub but in real it's not.

Give it a try.

Karthick,

Is the AR server able to access the LDAP server? Use the ldap.exe from the AR
Server and see if it works on that.

Does the bind user have any double byte characters for a password? There used
to be (and I think there still is) an issue with the AR Server not able to
authenticate users that have double byte characters for a password.

These are the two things that I can think of from the top of my head with the
absence of detailed errors in the arjavaplugin log.

UDM:RAppPassword always needs a entry for Remedy Application Service password
for specific AR servers to which a connection is established in Spoon.
So now when you change the AR user in Spoon to any other user make sure the UDM
Administrator role is assigned to this user so that internally the AI engine

Re: Notify Alerts in ARS 8.1

2013-04-12 Thread laurent matheo
Hi :)

In 8.1 alerts are hijacked to be used for tweets.
For exampĺe you can link a twitter account to a people and if he receives a
notification of type alert it Will send the message to his tweeter account.

I don't know if you can still use alert as it was working in 7.6.04.

I just used alerts to create tweets so far

Raj,
More info needed. Start with version.
Then, what does external mean? Are these people who have access to
remedy and SRM? Are they coming in through the internet? Are they
looking at their own requests?
Here's a few things that cause attachment issues sometimes:
1: Make sure pop up blockers are disabled.
2: Check to see that when they log into remedy (using IE), it is a
trusted site or local intranet. I've seen issues where if it is Public
Internet, attachments don't show up. Really, this is because of some
underlying security option that is checked and is less restrictive.

Re: Notify Alerts in ARS 8.1

Hello Laurent,

I think that the classic notification alerts should work in 8.1.

In aralerts.log I see **Error (22) in binding send socket for address

When I set *Alert-Outbound-Port: 50005* in ar.conf, then in aralert.log
there is the same error **Error (22) in binding send socket for address
:50005**.

The question is: how can we solve it?

Kind regards,

Re: Atrium Integrator - change username in AR connection

2013-04-12 Thread Rajendra Kapale
There is no need to update UDM:RappPassword form for this. As Yogesh
mentioned UDM:RappPassword always needs an entry for Remedy Application
Service user password for a specific AR server to which connection needs to
be established. Since you updated it to new user's password it will not
work since system uses that to connect to a server using remedy app service
user. so please revert the UDM:RappPassword entry to the previous one and
only update the user name on the AR connection. This should work.

Thanks,
Rajendra

Re: DSO Return Filter

2013-04-12 Thread Rajendra Kapale
DSO needs the mapping with same name to be present on server B which was
used to transfer record from server A. Where DSO transfers data with
ownership on destination server it also fills a special field from
mapping on the transferred record. This field will be later used in DSO
update/return operation to get the DSO mapping name.

By the way, you don't need to configure DSO return filter to get the
updated values back from master destination record to source record. System
automatically takes care of updating the values back to source when you
modify destination master record. No need to write an explicit filter for
this. You only need to make sure you have the mapping existing on the
destination server which DSO can use to do the DSO update.

DSO return operation can be used to return the ownership back to the source
record.

Hope this helps

When TRANSFER is done, as expected, for the record in question, Server B

Now If I delete this record from Server B, it automatically gets deleted
 From Server A.

 So far so good.

But If I modify the record on Server B, changes are not coming back to
Server A, so I guess Return operation is not working correctly.

Interestingly Filter which I have written for B-Form1, does not ask for
DSO Mapping moment you choose Action-DSO-Type (Return).

I am wondering how Server B figures out what mapping is to be used for
Return Operation and how to make Return operation work?

Enabling Filter Logs on Server B shows this error
 USER: Distributed Server
Overlay-Group: 1 Note: Distributed Server cannot transfer or return
 unless overridden

Log file for DSO reveals nothing.

Re: DSO Return Filter

2013-04-12 Thread Nathan Brandt
Hi,

Actually I figured out the issue, there was some mistake in the return
mapping and now it is working fine.
As you said about from mapping, I just checked it, this field doesn't get
added if you add only Basic distributed fields but if with this, one
doesn't have to write return mapping, it would be great.

Just saw this on a Daily Tech Update

2013-04-12 Thread Pruitt, Christopher (Bank of America Account)
This was posted yesterday: Thu Apr 11, 2013 3:35pm. Now I am wondering what
will happen to the Remedy product.

EXCLUSIVE-Two buyout groups ready BMC Software final bids -sources
Reuters, 04/11 , Nadia Damouni
Business technology maker BMC Software Inc is expected to receive final
takeover bids on April 22, with potential buyers pared down to two private
equity groups, four people close to the matter said on Thursday.
Shares of BMC rose 1.7 percent to $45.50 on Nasdaq, valuing the Houston,
Texas-based company at about $6.5 billion.
Buyout firm Thoma Bravo has joined a bidding group led by KKR Co LP and TPG
Capital LP, while Bain Capital LLC and Golden Gate Capital remain teamed up for
the auction, the people added.
The private equity firms are finalizing financing for their respective bids,
said the sources, who asked not to be named because the talks are private.
BMC could receive final bids ranging from the mid- to upper $40s per share, one
of the sources said.
Buoyant debt markets have encouraged private equity to consider larger deals
which in turn call for larger equity checks and make buyout firms more open to
teaming up.
In the most striking example this year, Blackstone Group LP , KKR, Carlyle
Group LP and Singapore's state investor Temasek Holdings joined forces to
submit an $11.1 billion offer for genetic testing equipment maker Life
Technologies Corp, people familiar with the matter told Reuters this week.
The private equity firms looking at BMC are coming up against a couple of
challenges, including a recent rally in its stock as well as options around the
company's two different businesses: mainframe and enterprise service management
businesses, one of the sources said.
BMC, which competes with Oracle Corp, SAP AG , CA Inc and Compuware Corp, was
under pressure from Paul Singer's activist hedge fund Elliott Management to
sell itself last year.
Elliott Management, which owns a 9.6 percent stake in BMC, had signed a
standstill agreement with BMC last summer that ended on April 6. The New
York-based hedge fund now has the ability to bid for BMC or nominate directors
to its board.
KKR, TPG, Golden Gate, Bain, Thoma Bravo and Elliott declined to comment. BMC
did not respond to requests for comment.

Mostly resolved Re: Write permissions errors with read (floating) license

Thanks Doug, you nailed it. (Sound of palm slapping forehead, and/or egg
running down face) We changed server hardware, and have since discovered that
some of the fields on the new server are missing permissions. The database had
been ported over from the old server, so ostensibly the objects would have been
the same. But somehow, the old permissions were completely missing from
certain fields. (That all happened before I arrived on the scene -- all I can
tell is that no one had modified those objects in the meantime.) I took it for
granted that the object defs would be the same on both servers, but apparently
(at least in this case) this was a reckless assumption.

Only a few fields have the issue; I haven't found any pattern as to how or why.
Furthermore I haven't found an instance where some of the permissions were
missing and some were retained -- they're either all there or they're all
missing.

So, this leads me to another question -- is there a quick and/or easy way to
identify all fields (in any and all forms) that do not have any permissions at
all? (I don't have access to Migrator, though I recall it just tells you that
there's a difference in permissions -- not necessarily what those differences
are.)

Thanks again,

 **

 Everyone,

 ** **

One more follow-up to my previous message that was explaining when
licenses are obtained to try and

address some questions that have come up.

 ** **

 The model of licensing

 ** **

A user is assigned the potential for a particular type of license – Read,
Restricted Read, Floating Write or Fixed

Write. Each of these types of licenses have specific capabilities and
 restrictions.

 ** **

When a user accesses the system WITHOUT accessing data, they will get a
 Read license assigned to them

and their potential license is still potential because they have done
 nothing on the system yet.

 ** **

When a user performs any data access within the scope of their license
(any form for AR System licenses and

forms licensed for the application for Application licenses), their
potential license is obtained for this session.

Now, if their potential license is a Read, Restricted Read, or Fixed
license, this is not really an event because

those types of licenses are ALWAYS available. If their potential license
is a Floating Write license, this act

of obtaining is significant because a token from a limited pool is
 obtained.

 ** **

Yes, the license is obtained at ANY data access. That is because you have
started work and you are licensed

for that type of license so one is obtained for you so that you have no
 restrictions working within that type

of license (otherwise you could for example fill out a bunch of data to
 modify something and then be

refused at the save point because you could not obtain a token).

 ** **

The concept of no license needed for read is actually a rather unusual
one. Most products require that a

user have a license to be able to enter the application at all. For the
AR System and BMC applications, you

do not need a license to read or submit if that is all you are going to
do. Only if you are going to open and

change and save something created by someone else do you need a write
 license.

 ** **

But, if you have a write license of some form, you will obtain that write
license whenever you do any data

access – including read – within the system.

 ** **

 ** **

 Overview console

 ** **

I tried to be very clear in my previous message. It describes how
obtaining a license works within the system

and it details the specifics about what is happening. It describes the
issue with the Overview console and

why a license is obtained. This is true up through and including the
current shipping product (8.0 as of this

 note).

 ** **

Now, I did call out that BMC has recognized that the fact that a broad
 group of application licenses are

obtained on accessing the Overview console is not really what the broader
 intention and an overall best

practice should be. So, this is acknowledgement that BMC understands the
 issue that is being mentioned

and that there is attention being paid about whether this behavior is
 appropriate.

 ** **

I also called out that the history has been that when BMC has uncovered a
 situation where the obtaining of

licenses is not really what was intended or considered best practice that
there is a tendency to change the

behavior in future release so that the issue no longer occurs. I gave a
couple of examples of this that have

occurred in the past. This does not guarantee change; it just shows a
 trend.

 ** **

 ** **

 Home page and overview console

 ** **

As has been noted, these are really the same thing. The home page is just
a copy of the overview console

shown in a window on the home page. Same data, same tables being accessed.

 ** **

So, any issues around obtaining licenses are the same.

 ** **

 ** **

 Change Management license obtaining

 ** **

One question that comes up is how many people within the org really need
 change management licenses?

Approving changes does not require a change

Hi List,

I am wondering if anyone has encountered this before or not.

I was going through Javadoc of CMDB API and came across the class
CMDBQueryQualifier which is one of the crucial classes involved in getting
Graph API to work.

CMDBQueryItem(CMDBClassNameKey classNameKey,
  java.lang.String id,
  CMDBQueryQualifier constraint,
  java.util.ArrayListjava.lang.String contentSelector)

Now,
Direct Known Subclasses of CMDBQueryQualifier are
CMDBQueryQualifierAndOr, CMDBQueryQualifierOpNot, CMDBQueryQualifierSetOp,
CMDBQueryQualifierSimpleOp
and CMDBQueryQualifierAndOr has the followingDirect Known Subclasses:
CMDBQueryQualifierOpAnd, CMDBQueryQualifierOpOr
CMDBQueryQualifierOpAnd needs a right and left operand to work.
CMDBQueryQualifierOpAnd(CMDBQueryQualifier leftOp,
CMDBQueryQualifier rightOp)

Constructs a CMDBQueryQualifierOpAnd object using the left
and right operands. This is extremely tedious because for a simple query(like
below) involving 2 operands, I have to do this

e.g 'ABC'=5 AND 'PQR'=0
 CMDBQueryQualifierSimpleOp cf1 = new
CMDBQueryQualifierSimpleOp(CMDBQueryQualifierSimpleOp.CMDB_QUERY_QUAL_OP_EQUAL,
ABC, new CMDBQueryQualifierValueTypeValue(new Value(5)));
    CMDBQueryQualifierSimpleOp cf2 = new
CMDBQueryQualifierSimpleOp(CMDBQueryQualifierSimpleOp.CMDB_QUERY_QUAL_OP_EQUAL,
DEF, new CMDBQueryQualifierValueTypeValue(new Value(0)));
 CMDBQueryQualifierOpAnd cf3 = new CMDBQueryQualifierOpAnd(cf1, cf2);

    CMDBQueryItem queryItem2 = new CMDBQueryItem(destination,
destinationClassId, cf3, resultSetAttributes);
What
if  key/value pairs in qualification increases? How do we deal with not going
through pain of creating new objects every time qualification is changed?
e.g. ('ABC'=5 AND 'PQR'=0) AND ( 'JKL'=8 AND 'RST'=10)
Now, I need to create 4 more objects:1. simple query for JKL that does (JKL=8)
2. simple query for RST that does (RST=10)
3. QueryQualifier AND for representing left and right side (JKL=8 AND RST=10)4.
To represent AND operation between  #3 and (ABC=5 AND PQR=0)( variable cf3 in
code above)

Am I missing anything or not looking at correct place, because I cant find my
way out of using CMDBQueryQualifier constraint. It would have been much easier
if API would just accept a String as the constraint or maybe something like
below:
Constructor:
CMDBQueryQualifierOpAnd(ArrayListCMDBQueryQualifierSimpleOp)

The implementation of this constructor should automatically add AND between
each SimpleOp object.

Actually, core QualifierInfo object would have made the job much easier.
  QualifierInfo qualByQuery = context.parseQualification(..);

Thoughts? How can we overcome this tedious behavior?

I spent good amount of time looking at this, but hey, if anything is obvious
and I missed it, please pardon me.

ThanksChintan.
