Consuming an external web service

2014-09-23 Thread Jim Hetfield
We're trying to consume an external, non-Remedy web service, using a set field
from web service filter action. Watching arpluginsvr.log I can see the
transaction successfully reach the vendor system, but it's erroring out due to
failing validation on the other side. The XML being passed by the plugin server
is the entire WSDL - the vendor indicates that we need to pass only those
elements that contain an entry - no null values.

The WSDL location points to the vendor's published WSDL, not a locally saved
file. Even if we were able to use modified WSDL entries stored locally - we're
not as basic authentication is needed - the values being passed are obviously
going to vary from transaction to transaction. What I'm hoping to learn, is if
there is any way to vary the values being passed by the plugin server so as to
eliminate nulls, while using a single WSDL.

TIA

Re: BMC sues SNOW

2014-09-23 Thread Brittain, Mark
Actually a pretty good marketing strategy. Company looking for a solution might
be shy of Service Now if there were the possibility of a massive upgrade due to
some court decision. Better to pick some other provider now (e.g. BMC) and
avoid that possibility. Those thinking of jumping from BMC to SNOW, might think
again or wait.

I can't see how any of these actually stand up in court. If you read the first
patent it basically says "get the details of a computer system into a text file
and load the information into a database"

If that's the case then Tivoli, et al, look out!

What a waste of time, money and resource imho.

I am pretty sure all artists steal.

For example — they steal the idea of putting a representation of their idea
into a sharable form.

Oh - and a lot of them seem to draw pictures/etc… of other people. (Of
course - I don’t think that patent is still valid).

Re: BMC sues SNOW

2014-09-23 Thread Joe D'Souza
I can tell you Fred was never an artist. Not even close.

Good artists are influenced by great artists. They NEVER copy. Great Artists
go after their own style even though it may be new and revolutionary -
especially if it's new and revolutionary. They do not ever steal. They have
their name all over their work. You can recognize it even before you see a
signature.

Those who copy may have a talent, but that does not mean they are artists.
They just can repeat what others have done to near perfection. That's why
they are called tribute artists - tribute bands for example.

So in other words, is he saying that by copying, SNOW was paying some sort
of tribute to the original artists?

I can't see how any of these actually stand up in court. If you read the first
patent it basically says "get the details of a computer system into a text file
and load the information into a database"

If that's the case then Tivoli, et al, look out!

What a waste of time, money and resource imho.

2014-09-23 Thread Lippincott, Levi (OMA-GIS)
Yeah but most patent lawsuits are usually about 1 of 2 things.

1. Another source of revenue for the company when the other companies
just pay a settlement to make it go away.

2. To force the other company out of business with all of the wasted time
and money that eventually they go bankrupt.

Maybe, but legally, there is a difference between "stealing" a concept
(nothing new under the sun) and stealing (the details) how that concept is
brought to market. It doesn't help that the SNOW C-team is full of people
with a track record of unethical, if not illegal, behavior. That BMC isn't
the only competitor suing them adds weight to the claim.

Making the accusation is the easy part – proving it is much tougher – just ask
J&J. They tried suing a (small) competitor regarding patent infringement of
their test strips for diagnostic equipment. They must be very specific to win.
Not saying they can’t, but it will be years and lots of in legal fees.

something you say in public, Fred.

You may remember Mr. Luddy as part of the Peregrine gang, which looks to be
up to their old shenanigans. Details here.

Published days of an article

2014-09-23 Thread rajesh
Hi Experts,

Is there a way i can figure out how many days the article has been published
from reporting
perspective?Lets says, I have published the article version 1.0 for 10 days and
created a new version
2.0 ,published the article which stayed for 15 days. So,is there is any
field/query which can help me
telling the article had been published for 10 days for Version 1.0 and v2.0 for
15 days?
or Would it be calculated as 25 days of published article?

How many days the article has been published,Has it been calculated on each
version or from the Version
1.0 to the current version?

My business requirement is pretty simple wherein we want to know how many days
the article has been
published and how can i get in report for management perspective.

Is there any business logic to calculate for number of days the article had
been published since it's
inception?

ARS/ITSM/RKM 8.1.

I look forward to your input.

Thanks,
RK

Re: On behalf of Functionality

2014-09-23 Thread Carin Grobler
Hi

they key thing to remember with on behalf especially in 8.1 SP1 and up is
that they fixed a previous defect that allowed users from Company A to
submit and SRD on behalf of a user in Company B that was never entitled to
see the SRD in the 1st place

On behalf can only submit SR's on behalf if the user being submitted for
has access to the SRD

thank you
Carin
