[Assp-test] Some default settings
Hi, I'm thinking some default settings should be changed, especially since most people probably use ASSP as is and they can cause false positives/negatives. NoProcessingIps - the ipnp file has the Gmail server IP's in it, and alot of spam comes from gmail and it will just go through ASSP without a hitch... DNSBLs - I see APEWS, Uceprotect levels 2 and 3 are present by default. - well APEWS is well known for being completely inaccurate, listing about 42% of IPV4 IPs (or more by now...) and would help generate alot of false positives. I know it's set to level 3 but it's still too dangerous IMHO. The uceprotect levels 2 and 3 list AS numbers (lvl2) and whole ISP's (lvl3 - including mine for instance) based on escalations coming from single IP's. In my opinion these lists are not for most people to use safely, and only people that know what they are and what listing criteria they use (or misuse) can make an informed decision to use them. -- Let Crystal Reports handle the reporting - Free Crystal Reports 2008 30-Day trial. [Assp-test] Does headerRe also check mail-from in the envelope? also regex question
I'd like some clarification to see if headerRe (and BomgHeaderRe) are only checking the envelope or if they check what I'm calling the message header (FROM: SUBJECT:, etc that is recorded after the DATA line is sent in the SMTP session). I think we should change the admin console to make this clear. If they do match envelope and header, could we extend that concept to have the noprocessing regexes also match the envelope and header? Related to the regexes, Thomas recommended this regex to allow a specific case: (((?:\r\n\.{40,}...@email\.capitalone\.com)|(?: \r\nfrom:(?:[^\r\n]*)?capitalo...@email\.capitalone\.com)|(? :206\.132\.3\.145)).*?(?!\g{-1})){3} Would this require that all three of these item appear (40 character mail-f...@email.capitalone.com, from: captital...@email.capitalone.com, and the ip 206.132.3.145) appear in the email or would something like captital...@email.captitalone.com appearing 3 times in the header be sufficient to have this pass? I think we should change the admin console to make this clear. This is clear enough. Header meens header not handshake or SMTP command ( envelope)! Would this require that all three of these item appear (40 character mail-f...@email.capitalone.com, from: captital...@email.capitalone.com, and the ip 206.132.3.145) appear in the email or would something like captital...@email.captitalone.com appearing 3 times in the header be sufficient to have this pass? Yes and no. No, 'captital...@email.captitalone.com' is not searched with this regex. Yes, if one part is three times found or one part two times and any other one - the regex will match. If you expect that the IP will be found two times in every mail , change {3} to {4}. Increase this value, if the message-id has more than 39 characters before the '@' and the domain part is the same like in the regex. Or try to make the regex more exact if possible. No sir Fritz, I never ignore your posts, they're always appreciated and helpful. Your post about the bombheaderre and bombsenderre was crystal clear. My followup was about headerre (not bomb) and I was then replying to Thomas' post that said yes when his further clarification really meant no. Yep, you nailed it, it is impossible to follow a conversion when subjects keep getting longer and longer and longer and the different ways in which apps thread those. I do not even have a unique subject to sort/search on, as it is ever changing, and concatenates with each post. Why does it do that? Other people on this list jump in posters quickly if they hijack a thread, this may not be hijacking, but in all reality, the end result is the same. Apple mail seems smart to use message id for threading, not subject, but not all clients take that approach. -- Scott * If you contact me off list replace talklists@ with scott@ * On Nov 16, 2009, at 3:25 PM, K Post wrote: FYI - in gmail, sometimes when you reply, your reply isn't with the rest of the thread. If there are all features enabled - there is no space left anywhere in the GUI. Moving the buttons in to the header line of the main form, will remove them from all other screens, because this line is not part of the HTML/JS that is used in every screen. Or all other screens have to be changed. Removing the small menu with the buttons, will result in a needed redesign for IE (8) of the left menu in fixed and floating mode.
