[Asterisk-Users] SOHO PBX using asterisk

2004-12-21 Thread Giorgio Incantalupo

Hi,
I'd like to build a personal PBX connecting 4 or 5 analogic phones with a
ADSL line and I'd like to know what is the right card I need
I visited digium site and I think TDM400 could be the right choice but I
cannot understand how it works...I think it has 4 slots where 4 modules
(FXS or FXO) can be inserted. How many cards do I need to connect my ADSL
line to 5 phones? I think I need two cards, one with 1 FXS for the ADSL
line and 3 FXO for the phones and the second card with only 2 FXO
modules, is this correct?
Where can I find the drivers for this card? Should I re-compile linux
kernel or there is another way to add drivers to linux?
Thanks in advance.
Giorgio.

I'm new at this, too, but I think I can field this one. FXS ports are for
connecting to your phones and FXO ports are for connecting to the PSTN. In
your situation you would get a TDM400P card with four FXS ports which will
allow you to configure 4 individual extensions. The DSL doesn't use a port
on the Digium card since it is accessed via the PC's network interface.

2004-12-21 Thread Shoval Tomer
Giorgio.

To connect 5 analog phone you need five FXS ports.

As for the ADSL line, please clarify your intentions.

If you wish to use the ADSL line to connect to a VOIP provider, like vonage or
voicepulse, then you connect it to your machine with a network interface.

If you wish to use it for PSTN calls, then yeah, you need an FXO ports.

This means two cards. One with 4 FXS modules, and one with one FXS module and
(maybe) one FXO module.

Joel,
Be careful with this. The OP did not mention VoIP. While he did
mention ADSL, that does not necessarily mean VoIP. He could be
referring to the phone line he - probably - still has that now comes
off his ADSL filters, etc.

Giorgio,
Joel is correct. FXO is for PSTN side, FXS is for office/phone side.
If you want to use the POTS line typically associated with ADSL, you'll
need a TDM40B (TDM400 + 4 x FXS) and depending on your needs/location a
TDM01B (TDM400 + 1 x FXO). If you did mean to use VoIP, scratch the
TDM01B and just plug an ethernet cable between your ADSL router and the
NIC on your * server.

Oops, just noticed, for 5 (FIVE) phones plus using the analog line
related to your ADSL line, you'd need a TDM40B and a TDM11B.

Kevin,
Can you tell us more about the sipura device?
(I just googled it)
Also if one is using sipura devices I would still be tempted to put in a
real digium card -- or how well the the ztdummy work for clocking?

A Sipura SPA-2000 provides two FXS ports for two analogue phones.
You can use a bunch of these devices if you need more ports. Of
course, once you get to a certain number, a channel bank will be
cheaper.

A Sipura SPA-3000 provides one FXS port, as above, and one FXO
port for your phone line.

The configuration quoted above (2 x SPA-2000 and 1 x SPA-3000) will
provide 5 x FXS ports and 1 x FXO port, and should cost less than
$350 USD.

Also if one is using sipura devices I would still be tempted to put in a

If you need a hardware timing device for some reason then a cheap
X100P will do the trick. The software timer modules should be ok,
on a Linux 2.6 kernel, for most uses.
