You could accept as the "passcode" the caller punching in their own phone#, then checking that against your whitelist. Lets associates get past the challenge when using someone else's phone, without their remembering some arbitrary passcode. And strangers or barred old associates who abuse it can get an earful about how you're suing them for wire fraud. Preferably after you transfer them to an extension that plays a recording asking for their current calling#, so "you" can call them right back, and then the script threatens them. Automatically emailing your district attorney with their contact info optional. Re: [asterisk-users] Telemarketer Torture....
I used to deal easily with telemarketer calls way before I ever got into asterisk. No hardware, no dial plan, no coding, no recording and less disk-thrashing than any of the previous systems. I'd just let them get started, set the phone down and continue what I was doing before they called. /r ___ -- Bandwidth and Colocation Provided by http://www.api-digital.com -- asterisk-users mailing list To UNSUBSCRIBE or update options visit: http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users
Re: [asterisk-users] Telemarketer Torture....
I have simply gotten rid of most of the telemarketer calls by simply making them press 1 or wait to talk to me and they give up almost always. on Sunday 03/16/2008 Horwich IT Services (Godwin Stewart)([EMAIL PROTECTED]) wrote > On Sun, 16 Mar 2008 08:50:50 -0500, Lyle Giese <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > > I just forward them to one of those two extensions. This plays music for 15 seconds, then asks them to wait while we try to put you through, repeat... The 1 second gap between the music ending & the announcement beginning is designed to make them think someone's answered. I may need to tune it up to 2 seconds, I'm not sure yet. The devstate Custom:telepark is used so I can monitor if someone's in the loop using a lamp on my phone :) It's not perfect: the loop can hold an indefinite number of calls, but the lamp goes out when the first one exits. Mind you, having the lamp causes its own problems: I tend to find that instead of getting on with my work (which was the plan), I end up timing how long they wait until they give up (record: approx. 18 minutes) instead. So maybe I need to make Asterisk put some tracking information into a database, so I can just run a report at the end of each day :-) Cheers, Ade. (PS: The pls-hold-while-try is either a standard Asterisk sound, or comes with the Asterisk-Addons package, I forget which.) If an inbound call comes in without CLI (or with CLI but the number is in my blocklist for that matter), I forward it to a recorded message saying "Caller ID screening is in operation. Please press 1 if you are an authorized caller". When the user complies, they're prompted for the passcode. If it's correct, then the call is forwarded to my extension. Very good. I made a much smaller one that just goes in an endless loop, no way out but to hang up. I figured telemarketer are too stupid to notice the same prompts over and over. I might use yours. Did you put the .gsm recording some place we can get them? My brother has the BEST solution for sales people. He makes an appointment with them to come out and gives an address across the street. It really wastes a real estate salesman or house painter's time to drive out to a dead end. [Asterisk-Users] Telemarketer Torture
Hello-- I submitted of extensions.conf that contains my "telemarketer torture" menus, last week sometime to the mailing list. I got back a note from the mailing list machinery, stating that it was too big, and would be subject to approval. No such approval came, I guess. Either I missed it, or it didn't rate, or the moderator just plain hasn't gotten around to it yet. So, I went and installed it on the Asterisk Wiki. Probably better that way anyway. That way, you won't have to scroll around 90K of menus and scripts if you are not interested. A little tongue-in-cheek, it basically is meant for the average telemarketer. It almost rates as telemarketer baiting, but really, it won't keep them long enough to even rate mediocre for that purpose. I cast the whole thing in the light of instruction on how NOT to design menus, and as such it serves as somewhat a good example of a bad example, if you get my drift. http://www.voip-info.org/wiki-Asterisk+Telemarketer+Torture Hope you enjoy it. murf signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part
