Paul, I just reviewed Turkish translation on Transifex. You can pull the latest version. If you prefer, I can create a GitHub PR. Re: [Audacity-translation] Audacity-translation Digest, Vol 128, Issue 30
Paul you're right. There are plural suffixes and there is some nuance, but we can neglect it. As your example, if dialog asks to us: "Enable these plug-ins" (plural) and if there is only one plug-in in the list below (singular) it's still acceptable and not ear splitting. I use same approach on my other translations (around 200 project) and test on apps that I use daily. Seems ok for me. On the other hand, if it's necessary I can easily modify the translation as you pointed out. But in that case -if I understand right- we should forget to use Transifex anymore. I'm not so willing to do that. Re: [Audacity-translation] A new translation platform, may be?
But I don't feel comfortable using a non GPL tool, as it seems to be the case in the mentioned site. Under GPL, Glotpress (http://glotpress.trac.wordpress.org/) Wordpress extension is a very good alternative. It's still under development but ready to do the job. We are actually using it to translate LimeSurvey (limesurvey.org). You can see the translation site at http://translate.limesurvey.org. Glotpress needs to be installed, run and maintained by an admin as a separate website unlike platforms like Transifex and Launchpad. Launchpad is also under GPL since Jul 2009. I believe Transifex has better features over launchpad and glotpress for both translators and developers. Transifex and launchpad are under constant development and have useful APIs to make life easier for developers. Transifex has a plan which support unlimited words and collaborators for open-source projects. Many Joomla extension developers choosed to use Transifex platform and as a translation maintainer, I vote for Transifex. As an advantage, we already have a volunteer translation manager who created unofficial audacity translation project on Transifex. So developers can save time and effort by working with him.
