[Audiogames-reflector] question about christianity

2014-03-16 Thread AudioGames.net Forum — Off-topic room: kamochek

question about christianity

hi.as i know, and i hope you also know that, the christianity wasnt a religion at the first 2 or 3 senturies, but it was a sect in the jewdaizm.in that sect, wasnt bishops, popes, monks and etc.it was like a messianic jewdaizm, or the pentacostalizm, or a baptizm in the protestantic christianity.a simple christianity.so how suddenly came bishops to the christianity, popes and etc?i think they came before the year 325, but in the first 2 senturies i shure by 100% that the christianity was a sect in the jewdaizm, and there wasnt all the things which are in christianity today.so how the christianity could change suddenly?or maybe it was step by step?enybody explane me that.kamochek.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=168869#p168869

Re: [Audiogames-reflector] Anyone Tried Citadel BBS and Groupware?

2014-03-16 Thread AudioGames.net Forum — Off-topic room: Sebby

Re: Anyone Tried Citadel BBS and Groupware?

Right, well, let me start with what everyone wants to hear first:This thing has the power to bring communities together. Seriously.I dont know whos f***ing good idea it was to turn a BBS into a groupware server, but give him a raise. Recognising that there is a fundamental need for a socially engaging, friction-free groupware experience that allows you to get stuff done is a service to all of humankind. I know my way around all the email software in existence on Unix, but that doesnt change the fact that it doesnt come with goodwill included; you have to do a lot of work, and the end result really isnt all that integrated or satisfactory or (Gasp!) fun. This software is simply oozing with the stuff, and it really shows when you start to configure it. Ive a good mind to set up a demo site on a separate VPS right now to emulate the AudioGames forums, only do it better, with blogs, wikis, file upload, lists, RSS gateway, user-created
rooms, everything. Now for the not-so-good side. As with all packages that diverge from the Unix philosophy, ultimately the software does less of, or less well, or in a less feature-complete manner, those things that the well-established software packages that are the individual constituents of a groupware solution would do. Yes, for an all-in-one solution Citadel is highly integrated (anywhere else you can pull RSS feeds into a forum topic accessible over IMAP and repliable with SMTP?), but youre going to have to deal with the natural consequences of less mature protocol implementations and a Berkeley DB database. Example: the SMTP server and client only support plain text authentication, and place artificial restrictions that are deliberately intended to simplify the administration, like forcing your From: header to match your user name. The XMPP
protocol implementation discards all presence information, and simply always shows online/offline whenever the client is connected, regardless of the active chat service, breaking buddy relationships and reestablishing them based solely on the connection. The mailboxes, calendars and contact directories, as well as other things like the mail queue and forums are abstractions called Rooms implemented as objects in a binary database that are inaccessible to clients in the file system, which of course have their own semantics that are a little bit different from other apps youre used to. These are really the results of designing a server around a BBS-like approach, and while not bad in and of themselves, are something to bear in mind in comparison to the usual way of doing things. For a particularly extreme example, try this post from 2011, describing the efforts of a UCLA departmental n
etwork administrator to evaluate Citadel; he regrettably concludes that its just not flexible enough. If you want to play with a Citadel installation, the one at Uncensored! is an excellent demonstration. The only thing it does not let you do, by default, is send SMTP email to the outside world, for obvious reasons. Give it a try. Go on: create your account, and then set up your IMAP/GroupDAV/whatever clients, and see what happens!I cant yet definitely say whether or not I think Citadel is space-worthy. Id like to think so (Im big on intentions) but I think there are a number of things which may or may not suit particular sites, and the best way is really to try it out. (Debian: apt-get install citadel-suite) For me, the big issues are selecting usernames that will result in pleasant email addresses as explicit sender, and the lack of PIPELINING support in the server. Both these are acceptable for a pu
blic access system, but might just suck (as in the above link from UCLA) if you happen to have an existing schema. For a personal server, there is no question that this thing can do what you need. And, indeed, if it makes your Raspberry Pi a serious option, or just if it saves you lots and lots and lots of time, then I say go for it. Yes, its not as well-known as perhaps it should be (Debian has citadel-mta as a known MTA, so not unknown) but that doesnt mean it wont do what you need. The Citadel website has lots of information. Notable is that its quite simple to extend Citadel in various ways, for example you can run it behind an existing web server to serve it and other stuff from the same domain, and you can run it behind Postfix if you wish to do more advanced email. As a Postfix user and postmaster, I intend to expose this thing directly to the Interwebs, although performance of incoming email will suffer slightly and I will not have the opt
ion to filter spam into folders (it rejects it outright). For me this is worth it for lower setup complexity, though as I said it may not be practical for a Serious installation where no compromises are allowed. So yes, give it a try. Please. Re: Making A Tts Voice?

Ive found it easier to just cut up recordings and piece words and phrases back together. Sometimes, the results even sound natural (but usually you can tell its been edited). It helps to have a large database of words/phrases; cutting them up, and getting your sorta-kinda-TTS to identify which is best to use in a given situation is complicated, however.(One could presumably turn such a program into a sapi5-compatible voice with some c++ header magic and getting it to implement all the required functions, but thats more than Im willing to do for the uses Ive needed. Conceivably, you could get a programmer to handle the program itself, but it will inevitably be too dubious quality for how much anyone would charge for the headache of coding it to be sapi compatible.)URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=168868#p168868

Now he has changed things for Swamp, making gamer accounts that you have to pay for, but its for future games as well, not $24 for each game. Re: I'm making a new game, but have a question

The window title trick works only if the window is otherwise empty. Do not put other controls in the window, and this is likely to work. Games do not often use other controls, so thats probably not a problem; nevertheless, other controls in the window will break it. I believe this works in NVDA because the focus has nowhere to go besides the actual parent window itself. My advice is to do the following: put your saying code in a function you write. This function can be as little as one line. It shall take a string and say that string. You make that function use NVDA for now. Later, if you want to support more screen readers, you then change this function without changing the parameters it takes, and thus only need to change one place in your code-the function can be used thousands of times, but supporting more screen readers is just adding 10 or so lines to this function, and a bit of initialization somewhere else. T
his lets you continue your game for now without worrying while still having the option for later.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=168848#p168848

2014-03-16 Thread AudioGames.net Forum — General Game Discussion: Dark

Re: Mind Sports

@Assault freak, I would not describe fighting games as the same category of stratogy or requiring the same skills as bridge, whist or even chess, sinse what is required in those games is judgement based, or reactive stratogy in a real time action environment. While you can annalize fighting games to the frame of amination and the pixel of spacial positioning required, you can also simply pick them up and play (well you can if your sighted and dont le need to learn all the sounds, speed of movement etc), and in a fighting game, no matter how strategic you are your reactiosn to threats and ability to think on the fly as you put it is still your primary focus, however my attention you put into the theoretical end of the game, it still needs execution. In games such as bridge, chess, and to an extent whist or backgammon, what is required is the assesment of a limited number of moves and forward planning and there are no real
time elements involving reaction. Your stratogy indeed has to have both proactive and reactive elements, and though you still must make judgement calls, the judgements are based on your over all understanding of the rules of the system and your extrapolation of those rules, not an instant split second decision. Both are valid forms of entertainment and mental exercise but the skills required for each have some very fundamental differences. @casta, I dont really see your problem with spoonbill. Send them an E-mail for what games you want and Ian Humphries will send them very quickly indeed. He does this because he personally wants to get to know his players rather than having a faceless download, and as hes spent the time coding the games and putting them out for free I dont see this as unreasonable. Likewise, to me saying oooh but I have to install them individua
lly is a little like saying Oh I want a pint of milk but cant be bothered to walk to the shops and buy oneFor the spoonbill games, id also recommend checking the db and the spoonbill site itself sinse all the games have very detailed and informative instructions. I cant speak for the playroom, but the Rs client also has some very detailed instructions on each game, so you can find out exactly what 1000 miles is about by looking there. Regarding varients on games, well solitare games (or patience as theyre known in the Uk), simply means any solo player game with a single pack of playing cards. The generic term solitare has come to mean the 7card stack clondike form of the game, however there are numerous other Solitare games many of which, (like the Poker Solitare or cribbage solitare), do not have the same
pattern at all. Again, check any individual games instructions for details. I confess sinse most of that style of game is pretty spacial I tend to not be a fan of them myself, though I did enjoy the accordian solitare in the Gma cards pack, and indeed Kings corner which is a two player game with some of the principles of standard stack solitare. While I know there are many draughts or backgammon variants out there when i speak of the games I simply mean their traditional mode, ie, the draughts move in diagonals across the board and take peaces by jumping them, and the backgammon objective is to get all 6 checkers to the end squares and bare them off, indeed the only backgammon Ive ever played has been with the Pontes version, though I have sinse bought a tactile backgammon board in case I ever meat a friend who knows how to play and would like a game as I did find it enjoyable. We
also have not spoken about games on the Iphone either. One game which I would certainly recommend as a perfect brain exercise is lost citties. With elements of both stack solitare and uno, its a very unique game and requires some definite planning and risk assessment, I also like the fact that being on the Iphone I can pull it out and take a turn when I want.Of course various other games involve stratogy elements not reliant on real time action, such as the recently released smugglers invasionn with its new skills system (indeed I spent close to 36 hours playing smugglers 3 once, getting entirely lost in the trading and economic calculations), however I personally would say for pure mental exercise its best not to have too much by way of external distractions, and also to have a game with rules that are easy to apply.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=168852#p168852

Guitarman, to be honest the requirements to do this are far more complicated and more technical than you realize. It is definitely far more complicated than just writing a scriptSupposedly there are programs like Model Talker which Scot mentioned above where you could record sample clips of yourself and construct a Sapi 5 voice, but as Scot mentioned the end results were pretty low quality. There is also an open source TTS Engine, Festival, which has a number of sample voices, but to be honest no one has come up with a decent enough voice for it which sounds even as good as the Vocalizer voices, and even if you did start with something like that it would require months of research into the APIs as well as the science behind voice synthesis. @king gamer222There is a Clonezilla boot option access=v3 which is supposed to enable blind accessibility. But it never works for me.Dont be surprised that Linux accessibility is overrated.Builtin options claimed to work out of the box almost never work as advertised.Linux is good for the techsavvy, but when the documentation claims that you can get speech at the Kernel prompt, it is almost certainly wrong. The newer Linux kernelis said to support speech at the kernel prompt, but none of the mainstream distros of which I am aware has implemented it correctly.Debian has speech at the kernel prompt, but last I checked it was only one of the ISOs, and of course it wasnt stated clearly on the website. So dont waste your time.Linux accessibility is overrated and will likely never be suitable for production use.Orca as screen reader is horrible and is useless for serious internet browsing. That said by

There was a program called Model Talker that essentially did this. They had his list of phrases, youd read them off, and youd have a SAPI-based voice. It worked, but it was very low quality. Indeed, anything you could create, frankly, would suck. Like after we pressed enter, it might give us a menu to choose a game. E.G. we can choose between red, blue and yellow. I think this will be nice as for some games, the catch rate of certain pokemon differs, and if we compare red/blue with yellow, the game plays differs almost completely. Re: question about christianity

Its complicated and slightly mysterious. You might try reading some of the early church fathers writings (Clement, Ignatius, etc). The evidence does point toward early Christianity being more Jewish; it seems that Paul was the one who moved away from that and toward the more abstract version that worked with the gentiles. Some elements of the more Jewish sect (certain rituals, for example) were absorbed by the more Pauline church in Rome by the time that Constantine converted. Then we have Justinian, who apparently is responsible for a lot of things (Im fuzzy on the details, but Ive heard him blamed for the medieval interpretation of Hell, as an example). How the power structure of the Catholic church fits into all this, I dont know.(I recently read an interesting take on both Paul and the Gospels from a Talmudic perspective, but Ill have to search to find them again.)URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=168876#p168876

2014-03-16 Thread AudioGames.net Forum — Off-topic room: Dark

Re: question about christianity

As far as I am aware, a lot of the reasons were political as with most decisions of hierarchy. I believe it began largely with the counsel of Nicaea, in I believe 120 Ce or so, where the Roman emperor constantine quite literally laid down the law on christianity, and decided what was or was not considdered correct belief. This removed a lot of jewish beliefs and also involved considderable massacring of unitarians and the establishment of the trinity as a mainstream part of christian belief. I know much of the catholic churchs basic doctrin, which after all is what most church doctrin was based on (Martin Luther only disagreed with what existed), was based on Augusteen, who was around the eighth century. one thing to bare in mind however kamochek, pretty much every brand of christianity has slightly different beliefs. For example the penticostalists Ive met are pretty cer
tain about calvinist beliefs, ie, they believe very firmly in the idea of the elect, that only a certain number of people get into a heaven a number God predetermined to begin with. This has nothing to do with mainstream or indeed Jewish beliefs, and is very much based on a strictly protestant teacher Jon Calvin, albeit most Penticostalists Ive met havent heard of Calvin and just go along with what their individual minister has told them. The problem with christianity is that you are dealing with reccords from two thousand years ago that have been translated into goodness knows how many different languages, that have been used for political ends, that have maintained control in society and have appeared in various different forms. This is indeed part of the point of Messianic Judeism, to get as close to the original christian practices and beliefs as possible. So, when trying to interpret other chr
istian beliefs, bare in mind there is a lot of history and a lot of reenterpretation, and a certain amount amount of zenophobia from many quarters, ie, people who refuse to take account of the idea that anyone could believe or practice or worship god in a different way to them.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=16#p16

I dont think clipboard would work for smugglers games sinse your talking a full scale interface and need to click on objects. Ive met enough people who got through the game with nvda or window eyes without trouble to make me wonder if the issue is one of knolidge rather than anything else, though i do admit the way the game works so fantastically with supernova is great, though that is primarily because of the columnization in the default map for virtual curser which sn has. I dont know what you mean about combat however, sinse each game has added considderably. Basically in S3 all you could do was fire your guns once, try to maintain your range and fire one missile or torpedo, of which you only had the one and which needed instantly replacing. The major advantage in s3 was that in the addon there were so many different ship types youd occasionally have to change stratogy to accommodate them .In
s4 all the launchers came with infinite missiles making them a major part of combat, and you had action points to use as well as skills. The problem was that you pretty much found a formular and stuck to it, and though things like emp was introduced they didnt come up often enough to make a difference, mostly you just found your best combination of skills, missiles etc and plugged away. It also didnt help that S4s skill tree was large and a little confusing.S5 shook things up with the combat events, which occasionally meant you had random consequences to deal with as the game progressed every few fights, and believe me if you found yourself fighting a bigger ship class with a bad event youd be in trouble. S5 also saw the reintroduction of some elements from s3 such as mines (both as a combat event but also as an item you could use to counter enemy tractor beam), and long range. S5 invasion h
owever is my favourite combat system thus far, because firstly the skills are randomized, meaning that each turn you need to calculate the best use for your action points and that also sometimes you wont necessarily have the best skill at your disposal, so you wont be hitting them with a target lock focus beam each turn.I also believe s5 has reintroduced long range fighting as a major part of the game, but Im not certain as to that yet sinse I still need to experiment more.I have also noticed s5 invasion has introduced npc ship types such as bombers, which is awsome and means your not fighting the same enemies all the time anymore. On access, you can scroll the skill bar up and down with the buttons in s5 invasion, though I never had an issue with this in s4 or s5, though I believe some jaws users did.So, bottom line, combat wise s5 invasion rocks, albeit its a lot harder than s4 which was a
little too easy, and even harder than s5 which was far trickier.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=168893#p168893

Re: [Audiogames-reflector] question about christianity

2014-03-16 Thread AudioGames.net Forum — Off-topic room: Dark

Re: question about christianity

Well kamochek, things arent as simple as you might think. Actually I was a member of the counsel for christians and jews. This was exactly what you said, christians from various denominations, various Jewish groups and indeed Messianic jews coming together to discuss both similarities and differences of faith, and there was everyone from Authodox and progressive jews to catholics and anglicans.Ive met some pretty unpleasant penticostalists, very much of the agree with us or else! type of thinking which is not good and is also pretty anti what Jesus said, but is disturbinly common in terms of christian thinking. This is why Im less certain of a right church, in the sense of one absolute truth though I definitely appreciate the idea of trying to get closer to the original christianity practiced at the time of christ, so Im very sympathetic to the
idea of Messianic Jewdeism, indeed my dad largely does the same in reverse, ie, he began as a Christian but feels more strongly that a lot of the traditional Jewish beliefs should never have been abandoned.Regarding me, I was bought up an Anglican, and and at one time did considder being ordaned myself, however I am not personally a fan of the church organization, (particularly after the shenanigans my mum had trying to be ordaned as a disabled person, though that is another story). I then went through a period when i held myself to be a universalist. I believed in God and that God roughly wanted people to be nice to each other, but not necessarily that there was one and only one way to god. There is a very nice hindu proverb that two people a thousand miles away can both point fingers at the moon, and because the moon is so large and its light reaches everywhere they can both be pointing at the same moon. This isn
;t to say I believed everyone was right, sinse though i was certain about God, I wasnt certain with some of the ways humans interpreted what they believed God wanted them to do, and that goes just as much for christians as it does for any other religion, however it did mean Id be just as happy worshipping god wherever and in whatever tradition or aspect . This should also explain why I am so wary of all those religions and groups who claime there way as the only right one and everyone who does not believe as they believe is going to hell.Recently however, over the past few years God and I are no longer on the same wavelength. The sorts of meditations I used to practice and the experiences of the presence of God I always new how to find no longer work, even though I very much needed that experience for reasons Id rather not go into.these days, while I naturally believe my own previous experien
ces of the presence of God, I am less certain god gives a rats rear about humanity or will interveen within the world. My belief is that God is a natural force like a river. If your beside the river, well thats good for you, but if you get dragged out into the desert, tough luck the river isnt going to come and find you. So, now I count myself as a half agnostic. This isnt to say I believe agnosticism is correct, I am a good enough skepttic to believe I could be wrong, however that is where God and I are at the moment, and if God wants things to be different well its up to god really, but Im sick of asking and recieving no answer, oh and btw no I dont mean by answer some visitation from a glowing hoard of angels or some miraculous coincidence like me winning the lottery, I just mean that sense of gods presence that I
used to be able to find.I have looked for it in the natural world, I have read plotinas, I have meditated and preyed, but nothing, and so its dam well up to god now, and God is continuing to bee pretty silent on the subject. So, that was probably more of an answer than you expected but that is pretty much where I am at the moment with respect to God and religion.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=168896#p168896

Re: experiences with bit torrent in the cloud website put.io?

So, I now have some experiences with this website, and can recommend it, with a few major gotchas:1. Pasting URLs or magnet links into the text box doesnt work well with firefox and NVDA, you instead need to upload a torrent file from your computer. I tried with Chrome, with no better results.2. On the upload screen, you need to click the bit that says uploader not working for you? Click here or something like that. Then the uploader becomes fully accessible. But with that out of the way, everything else works. The iPhone app is accessible. The interface to download your files is snappy; just check the folders you want, and click zip and download. Or use FTP. File transfers occur at acceptable speeds either way. But if you click zip and download on, for example, an audiobook, you can dump it straight into something like Voice Dream Reader. Torrents download extremely quickly, a 70 GB torrent will finish in about 20 hours.
Your torrents will then seed until a ratio of 1.0, when they will be stopped. If youre a heavy torrent user, and you want your Internet connection back, this is worth the $19 a month.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=168899#p168899

Re: question about christianity

One thing to remember about the early church is that it was a minority community that faced anything from benign neglect to outright state-sponsored persecution, and as such it tended to be rather inward focused. As I look at Pauls letters to the various congregations, I see many small communities who were focussed on their own spiritual/religious development, as well as their physical well being. Indeed, it is entirely possible to draw a nearly Communist, or at least Communitarian ideology from what we know of the early church.Such a structure was not viable once Church and state were wedded together by Constantine. A church that was built on small, autonomous communities would hardly serve the needs of a large state such as the eastern Roman Empire, which would need a religious order that justified temporal rule. The doctrine that priests were needed as intercessors for the faithful directly ties the people to a hierarchy, and since that hier
archy was tied intimately to the state, it served as a focus for control. It is this requirement of a priesthood to receive Gods grace that many rebelled against during the time of the Reformation, something Martin Luther never intended.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=168900#p168900

Re: question about christianity

Kamochek, interesting topic of discussion, and as I happen to be something of an amateur historian I do think I can answer your questions here. However, keep in min d that what we are discussing is better than a couple thousand years of history, and its a long and complex story involving many different people and events. Christianity didnt evolve over night, change over night, and there are many reasons to why Christianity is the way it is today. The one thing I can say is that it didnt happen suddenly, but evolved or changed based on differing times and circumstances. However, before we can actually get into how Christianity became what it is today we need to look back at the circumstances of what was happening in your homeland, in Israel, during the time Jesus and the apostles were supposed to live. Much of what was to follow has its roots in the first century and were partly political as well as religious. So once you understand what was happening then it make
s it easier to understand the reasons how and why Christianity changed as it spread out, became less Jewish, and became something other than the Messianic sect it started out as.During the first century Israel was under the control of the Roman Empire. It was just one of several countries the Romans had crushed under their boot heals, but the Jews, unlike so many other people the Romans had conquered, were not willing to integrate into normal Roman society. They believed themselves to be Gods chosen people and were religiously, politically, and biologically separate from all other Romans. They considered everyone else not a Jew to be a gentile. So its not too surprising that after being defeated by the Romans the Jews were looking for a messiah, a savior, similar to Moses, Joshua, King David, etc. They definitely were not looking for or especially wanting anyone like Jesus, because they wanted a strong military leader to overthrow the Romans. Not some guy claiming to be
the Son of god, and who would be crucified for the sins of the world. That just did not fit their expectations of who or what the messiah would be.Fast forward to the late first century and it is not surprising that there were many military leaders who rose up, claimed to be the messiah, and lead a number of unsuccessful revolts against the Romans. The Romans of course retaliated by sending troops to Israel, sacking Jerusalem, and ripping down the Jewish temple among other things. It was of course an attempt by the Romans to bring the Jews into line, but believing the Messiah had come or was coming Jews began revolting all over the place. Even in Rome. In the end all the Jews ended up doing is making themselves pariahs, outcasts, and outsiders and a lot of gentiles viewed Jews with suspicion and distrust. This is where the Christians come into the picture. Not all Christians were or had been Jews and by the second century many were converted gentiles. So it isnt
too surprisingly they didnt like being painted with the same brush as those troublesome Jews, and from what we can read from the Early Church Fathers many consciously made an attempt to get away from Messianic Judaism/. They wanted to create something new, Christianity, which was similar in beliefs to Messianic Judaism but was not. To this end they began doing a lot of things that may or may not be considered apostate such as changing the Sabbath from the seventh day of the week to the first day of the week, Saturday to Sunday, didnt celebrate any Jewish holidays, and so forth. Basically, by the second century there was a movement to sever ties with Messianic Judaism and it was much to do with the politics of the time as anything else.If we move forward a couple more centuries we have a slightly different situation, but we see politics has a lot to do with what happened next. Constantine I becomes emperor and according to history converted to Christianity. A
t least the Roman flavor of Christianity, and he convenes the first Counsel of Nicea where a lot of church doctrine is hammered out and canonized . Since Christianity, the Roman version is now the official religion of the Roman Empire, its not too surprising politics drove the changes to come. The Roman Catholic church, now the official church, took on a very Roman typed organized structure. There had apparently been priests, bishops, and so on in the organization of the Catholic church prior to Constantine, probably dating back to the second century or so, but they had no real political power. After Constantine though the Catholic church begins to take on political power. Constantine had moved his capital east to Constantinople , present day Istanbul, and he left Pope Sylvester I in charge of Rome and the Western half of the empire. This is where politics and the Catholic church begin to play an important roll for the next thousand years. I could write for pages on
that topic, but for brevities sake I wont.Needless to say what

Re: Making A Tts Voice?

CAE, there are a lot of problems with that method. For one if you cut up recordings and piece words and sentences back together there is always going to be certain words or phrases that your TTS will never be able to speak. If it isnt in your database it wont be able to read it. I often see things like this happen with the ATT Natural voices, and it flat out does not work for strange words from a science fiction novel or fantasy novel where the words are often made up and need to be sounded out. Certainly they dont appear in any dictionary and a TTS voice as you are proposing just would not be able to do it.Another problem is performance. TTS engines like Espeak may not sound human but are very responsive when used with a screen reader etc. Thats because they dont have to do a lot of complex work when generating the speech. What you are proposing requires much more complex work from the CPU and memory stringing sounds together to reconstru
ct a human voice. I am not at all certain you could get the same amount of performance from such a system because you are in a sense loading and playing sound clips back rather than synthesizing the speech.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=168905#p168905

Jesús_r2, the $24 is for the entire year. Paypal will automatically convert the cost into your own local currency.Eclipse, the radar system does indeed take some getting used to. I would not be the best person to explain it, because I dont have much practice using it, but Ill give it a try. If you are using the forward short range radar (up arrow), you hear 5 beeps that pan from left to right. This is like swinging a cane from left to right, tapping at the ground a total of 5 times. If it is open empty space, you hear one noise, and if you tap a wall you hear a different noise. It is meant for helping to spot doorways or corners, and some players are masters with that thing! 2014-03-16 Thread AudioGames.net Forum — Off-topic room: Dark

Re: question about christianity

@camochek, the difference between catholics and anglicans is pretty simple in organizational terms. Anglican simply means English. As you know, the Pope is considdered head of the Catholic church, well in the 16th century Martin Luther, a local priest in germany had some serious complaints with the catholic church, in particular he disliked the Catholic belief that salvation could be essentially purchiced through good works, and several of the practices the catholic church was involved in at the time such as selling indulgences, quite literally making people pay to get time off purgatory, as well as some less than savory habbits of some very high ranking clurgy. Luther also objected to the traditional catholic practice of all survices being in latin, and stated that the bible and other religious books should be in the language people spoke so that they were understandable. There was a lot of political termoil at
the time, and various rulers of european countries saw this as a great way to gain power from the Catholic church, which of course created major war with the powers that still respected catholicism. The Anglicans specifically came about because Henry the Eighth wished to divource his wife Catholic of Aragon because he really needed a son and Anne Bolin had promised him one. Of course, under the Cathlic church Divource is illegal, therefore Henry decided to follow the example of a good few other European leaders and effectively create his own Anglican church, a church where it was possible to apply for divource, and a church that he as King of England would be head of. apparently he quite literally had two thrones one either end of a hall, sat on one and said Oh head of the church I apply for a divource then literally walked up the hall to the other one and said as head of the church I grant it to y
ou . Sinse a lot of taxes and wealth was also going to the Catholic church Henry also saw this as a great way to get that money paid to the crown instead, and one of his first acts was to dissolve the monasteries, which had a lot of wealth. This however created a considderable amount of unrest, with people taking different sides, and made enemies of a lot of powerful countries such as Spain (which even tried to Invade britain).Of course now the spiritual connection to the monarch of England isnt really there anymore, indeed Prince Charlse quite recently had his title Defender of the faith amended to defender of Faiths Generally therefore the Anglican church now is a church that doesnt recognize the authority or spiritual significance of Rome, but still is fairly traditi
onal as far as christianity goes depending upon the individual Vicar and the congrigation, though there are still beliefs that involve its protestant routes eg, salvation by faith rather than by good works, survivces mostly being in English rather than latin (although Latin is still used occasionally on special occasions by more formal congrigations). Indeed most of the British clergy who hold more rigid or orthodox positions these days are actually becoming catholic, sinse the Church is holding a more moderate position on issues such as intercourse outside of mariage, the ordination of women and homosexuality, indeed I wouldnt be surprised if gay mariage became legal in Britain quite soon. This is also likely why with the exception of various groups of what I tend to think of as loopy christians, (mostly baptists or penticostalists Im afraid), the mainstream christianity in Britain tends to be fairly rela
xed, or at least far more so than what Ive heard of christianity in some other countries such as America.@Tom, very interesting explanation, although as you said summing up a couple of thousand years (or even a couple of hundred years), of church history is pretty difficult. Regarding the Romans however, I have heard that with most other religions the romans were relatively tolerant by the standards of the time, this is largely why a lot of british and Celtic traditions survived roman rule and why its generally held that a lot of British mythology and belief hung on until the Norman invasion, and why other religions around at the time such as the cult of Mythras and the worship of the goddess Isis (imported from Egypt), actually flourished under roman rule. I remember hearing that one of the major reasons why first the Jews, and then the christians were so specifically persecuted
by Rome was that both were Monotheistic. The Romans largely didnt care which Gods people worshipped, as long as they spent at least one day a year worshipping the roman emperor as a God. This is why even today we have months in the Calendar named for Roman emperors. Of course first the Jews, then the christians held that there was one and only one God, so there was no way theyd be willing to acknolidge the emperor as divine, which naturally for the Romans also meant that they were rebels.its actually interesting in

Re: question about christianity

Dark, yes, that is certainly true. The Romans were for their time pretty tolerant of other religions, and were not ones to push their beliefs off onto others. When they went in and conquered an area they let the people continue to believe whatever they wanted provided the people also accepted a few things such as accepting the Roman emperor as a deity and spent some time worshipping at Roman temples and worshipping Roman gods and goddesses too. Since the Romans were polytheists, believed in many gods, the idea that anyone could or would believe in one and only one god was an anathema to them. It was utterly unconceivable for them. So the Christians and Jews essentially became enemies of the state, because they would not be good polytheists and worship many gods like everyone else did.Interesting enough there are some surviving written accounts of trials in which the Romans captured Christians, dragged them into court, and the judge would try and reason with them. They would
tell them to say this or that prayer to the emperor, burn this candle, do this or that and theyd be sent on their way. Christians outright refused, and in some cases the person demanded to be crucified exactly like Jesus. So apparently during the second and third century despite many Romans not wanting to kill them Christians were hunted down and martyred simply because they refused to worship any other gods or goddesses accept the Christian god. No doubt the Romans saw the Christians attitudes as pigheaded and unreasonable, because a lot of the times the Romans sent to kill them did try to reason with the Christians and let them go. Most chose suicide by martyrdom than pretend to worship another god. However, you are right. It is interesting to see how much political and religious power were tied together, and the combination has ultimately been destructive for everyone involved. That is why I am a member of the Freedom From Religion Foundation here in America, b
ecause I am a firm believer in the separation between church and state. Anytime the religious authority and the political authority have merged it has been a complete and unequivocal disaster, and human rights usually get trampled under foot. The war between Catholics and Anglicans during the 16th century is a case in point. Henry VIII gets pissed off because the Pope wont grant him a divorce from Catherine so he creates his own church, grants himself a divorce, and ends up plunging England into civil war for the next century. Henry and his son Edward die without heirs, Mary I comes to the thrown, and automatically goes on a bloody religious crusade to bring England under Catholic rule. She too dies without heirs and Elizabeth comes to the thrown and reconstitutes the Anglican church. Both Spain and Mary of Scotland, both Catholics, try to dethrone Elizabeth causing more needless war and spilled blood. We havent even started on how England first under Elizabe
th I and then under James I dealt with Ireland creating many of the issues and problems we have today between Irish Catholics and the English. The point being politics and religion have never been good bedfellows, and the two together causes more problems then they solve. We are still sorting out messes created by our ancestors such as the issue over Ireland or the possession of Palestine, and the only way we can ever and will ever get passed it is if political decisions are made without religion being tied into the mix. A lot of things have been done historically that were morally wrong and have been excused away by someones religious beliefs. We need to take religion out of the picture and make political choices based on what is best for everyone involved not to satisfy someones religious beliefs.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=168914#p168914

The buttons are actually clearly labelled, just not in the way you might think. Heres how it works:There are the buttons up top that are, admittedly, labelled oddly. But if you keep flicking past the buttons, youll find text labels, in order, that tell you what the buttons do. Im really not sure why they did it this way since I havent seen any other games with this kind of interface, but it is very possible to see what each button does. As Ive said before, the only thing Ive had any trouble with is breeding, and only then because the male and female monsters are shown via symbols, not via text, so its hard to tell when you have a breedable pair.As for seal cards, its tricky at first, but once you get used to it its not so bad. Ive caught something like 20 monsters so far before I quit playing. It does take a bit of speed and some knowledge of where the cards will pop up on your screen after you hit the seal

Several very fast beeps in a row, or what I think of as a broken up beep, means clear sailing. The short range gives you five beeps in whichever direction you are looking, or five for ahead, left, behind, and right if you enable the look-around radar. The long-range radar, my personal preference, gives only one beep. I use it, usually looking ahead, so i know what is in front of me. Its great for quickly navigating obstacles in warehouses, or the swamp trees on map4, or any number of places. I sometimes enable a side-looking long radar if I am moving straight ahead but need to locate something I know will be on my left or right, such as when navigating the sewers or looking for the doorway out of Storage in the small warehouse. The next Readme will have description
s of most, if not all, of the multi-player and mission maps. They arent detailed, but they explain the general layout. From there it is just a matter of practicing a lot. And by a lot, I mean so much you start to hear crate sounds in real life, or wake up from a dream in which Swamp came to life around you. Yes, both have happened to me on several occasions, but I know just about every tile of the game. Eclipse, or anyone: if you have comments about the Readme, please tell me. What I write makes sense to me, but it may be gibberish to everyone else. I cant fix it if I dont know about it, so please, criticize away and dont worry about hurting my feelings.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=168931#p168931

Re: Braillemon status update!

Hey Daigonite. Something less known between blind folks just popped in my mind now. This porting of Pokemon youre working on has proven to be a nice way for us to access most of classic games of the series of games from Nintendo, right? So for something to add in the future, have you considered to post stuff related to the Pokemon Trading Card games? There are, if Im not wrong, two versions for Gameboy, one of those being in japanese, but the other one, wich I owned for a time is completely in english. If youre going to think about a way to put it into the game. You can place shops that sells cards scattered around the cities and the possibility to purchase card packs. For the battles themselves, you can put either a place specific for it in some cities or an option to challenge some of the npcs. And if you really want to cover all pokemon game aspects, there is also the safari game for Nintendo 64. This one is all about going in wild areas taking photos of pokem
ons. You can add it as a side quest given by the professors. You receive a camera and a given list of pokemons you must locate and collect some nice pictures and turn it back. Phew! I think this time I really went far with my crazy ideas. Best regards, Haramir.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=168934#p168934
