Well oddly enough I tend to write as I speak, unless I'm preparing a formal document such as a book review,  or news post or something academic, and even then, it's sort of how I would speak in that situation given a bit more time to choose propper words . Mrs. Dark, who I first corresponded by email with for a good six months before actually speaking to her on the phone or meeting her in person said rather the same thing, that I'm pretty much the same by writing as in person. I do tend to wiz through my posts, but that to make sure of coherence rather than worry about offending people, since usually I've found that people won't get offended so long as I actually take note of what they've said and avoid getting personal, not to mention acknolidging of course if I have made a mistake with someone, sinse obviously no communication

@Garrett, methinks your problem was not swimming when the tide was coming in, but swimming too close to jelly fish . @Nial, Good luck with the English teaching. I know some people have done that, but like anything else it depends upon where you end up and how things work out, since Japan like anywhere else in the world has good or bad parts and indeed good or bad schools to work in, but if your going as far as wrenting rooms over there your probably aware of that. Mud wise, I'm loving alteraeon right now, and not really noticing the grinding because I'm totally focused upon doing quests, and also because I so much enjoy all the nifty little activities and things that druids and mages can do (my char is a druid mage), such as brewing salves and tinctures (some of which rock), experimenting with potions, making spellstaffs, maintaining liveoak minians etc.
  I'm also having fun with the leather armour crafting skill, though haven't made anything particularly good yet, and I'll be interested to see what happens when cooking gets added into the game. If your looking for none grindy muds, three I can very much recommend are clok, frandom and avalon the legend lives. Frandom is essentially a giant interactive fiction game built as a mud, albeit without complex guess the verb parsers. You progress not by fighting, but by wandering around, examining things, exploring, talking to people and doing many questes. It's a very cool game and one I do want to get back to. Then there is Clok, which has some of the best crafting I've seen, very much the thing if you want to really feel like your part of another world doing wilderness ruvival,  I've also heard good things about lament on this score but not played it yet. Lastly Avalon the legend lives is the thing if you want a truly hug
 e and immersive game world with a lot of stuff to do. The only thing with avalon is most of what you do in terms of activities revolves around other players and organizations, still from what I gathered while I was there other players were pretty nice. all of these have db pages so feel free to check them out, also as I said I am enjoying alteraeon quite a lot at the moment myself, I'm Thelok on there if you want to give me a yell (I'm not a one for grouping but I'll e glad to gift you some xp or carve you some runes). @Guitarman, hope your dad is okay, my dad had a bypass last year after a heart attack. He's okay now, but it was definitely worrying, also thanks for the words about my lady's dog. Dulcimer and mandolin? that is cool! While something like gravity can be objectively measured and observed, morality is necessarily subjective. How could we possibly construct an objective morality independent of any human perception? It seems like an oxymoron to me, as morality is about human ideas of right and wrong. This is not to say though that we shouldn't have such a system, just that it will never be free of subjectivity. You could construct it around a central tenant such as minimising suffering and maximising happiness, but it will inevitably be much more complicated with rules and arbitrary exceptions. Even something as simple as "murder is wrong" which is something that I'm sure noone would disagree with is more complex then it sounds, as people will start disagreeing as soon as it comes to the definition of murder. Most people wouldn't consider killing someone in self defence murder, which means they consider their own life as more valuable than that of the other person. What abo
 ut countries with capital punishment? Isn't it basically state sanctioned murder as retribution for the person's actions? On the other hand is locking someone up for their entire life any better? Same goes for religious morals; people will wholeheartedly condemn murder of anyone as wrong while seeing the Israelites' conquest of the "promised land" and slaughtering of it's previous inhabitants or Mohammad's massacring of the Banu Qurayza at Yathrib as perfectly acceptable.As a side note, as artificial intelligence becomes more advanced, encoding some form of a morality system will become crucial. For example, a self driving car in a situation where loss of life is impossible would need to make some kind of judgement as to which situation is preferable, which would reflect the morality of it's designers.

As for mono files not playing in GW, I couldn't tell ya, as for how to convert, once you go into the save dialog, type in a file name and choose a format, go into set attributes, and shift tab into the box, and you will see a list, from that list, select one that says mono on it

Hi.Well it's been a good month so far. Although my dad just had open heart surgery and he's in a lot of pain so if you could keep him in your prayers. I visited him yesterday I've never seen him so sick. I knew this was coming but still it's awful. My grandfather went through the same thing but I was so little I barely remember.Anyway, on a happier note I got a mandolin for christmas. I'm learning how to play it, it's coming to me very easily. I seem to have a nack for stringed instruments. I can play guitar, traditional dulcimer, mandolin now, ukulele, and if I tuned one of my guitars way down probably bass. I've been wanting to start or get into a band. I'm a little shy around people at first so I don't know how that will work yet. I've been getting lessons for different instruments from bard. This guy bill brown does a lot of guitar stuff which is good it helps me learn new songs and new techniques. I go to lessons a
 nyway but I use the recorded lessons to learn new things more than once a week.I've been reading a lot of good books mysteries and other things. Lately the dark tower series has been on my mind. I guess I should probably read it again. As much as I love it the ending still bothers me. You'd think that after all the time I spent reading it King could have brought a better ending than he did. I understand the ending a little better now that I'm older but I still don't like it. I like happily ever after better than doom and gloom at the end of a story.@Dark, that's cool you read arcanum unbound I'm waiting for bookshare to get it. I like the stormlight archive too. I hate to say this but in many ways stormlight is a better kind of wheel of time story. So far it's been a lot more fun to read. Words of radiance had such an odd ending I'm wondering where the third book is going to go. The assassin Szeth who was one of my least favorite c
 haracters at first seems like he's not such a bad guy after all. Maybe in the third book he can be turned from the dark side of the force lol! I'm sorry to hear about your wife's guide dog. I've lost two dogs over the years so I can imagine how she feels. Even though my dogs were just regular non-guide dogs I know how that hurts. Anyway I'll have to check out this Connie Willis book sounds interesting.

I think Kai's point is that you aren't doing yourself any favors submitting voice work if it isn't at least at a quality level that can be used - which doesn't just have to do with the microphone, but also with the amount of room noise and so on. Like I said before, we're happy to take auditions from anyone who's interested, with the understanding that part of what we're looking for is recordings which our sound designer says are of an acceptable quality. It doesn't hurt to send something in, but Kai is also right that if someone is serious about getting into voice acting, even as a hobbyist, good equipment is essential.

We do indeed have some pretty significant stretch goals. Hey Chris,I'll try to answer your questions as best as I can. The menu options are read by SAPI because we do not currently plan for the main character to be voiced, other than in combat. This is for a couple of reasons. First, it's sort of the RPG tradition - the silent protagonist; probably so you can assume the character has whatever voice you want. Also, it could be a little obnoxious having to listen to spoken dialogue as you're cycling through menu options. Finally, since every menu is going to have multiple different dialogue options, it would make for a lot of dialogue for the main character, which would be expensive...There isn't currently any practical distinction for distance in combat. It's all just to create a sense of space. We haven't yet found a good way to represent distance in turn-based combat in a meaningful way that doesn't drag down the pace of combat.It's difficult to quantify how much replay value
  a game like this has, because it varies from player to player. The gameplay experience promises to be different based on what character class you play as, what choices you make in game, what party members are traveling with you at certain places or times, and so on. Does that make sense?

My MPower's display is pretty much shot, and it needs to be plugged in all the time when in use because the battery doesn't hold a charge anymore. Here are my thoughts and a few questions after listening to these audio demos.Why is the SAPI voice used for character dialogues in the quest demo? Is this just a placeholder feature until you get voices for the main character? I have to agree with the person who commented about the footstep sounds. They should be a little better than they are currently.Will attacks and spells be distance dependent? That would be really awesome and make combat even more realistic. I'm guessing the distance factor is there from what I heard of the character footsteps during combat. Still, I want to make sure.Finally, how much replay value will this game offer?

It honestly does not cost that much to get a good microphone setup for doing voice acting. I sincerely hope that those of you who sincerely want to contribute good voices to this project will take the time to invest a bit to get suitable gear.Example: A Pyle-Pro PDMIC58 costs $13.49. A XLR to USB cable costs $12. An On Stage DS7200B microphone desk stand costs $12.33. An On Stage Foam microphone windscreen costs $2.95. An On Stage MY250  microphone clip (assuming your microphone doesn't come with one) costs $3.06. In total, this costs roughly 40 to 50 dollars. There are also USB microphone packages and units that combine all this but lack the flexibility for upgrade.If you're really serious about wanting to contribute your voice to a project, please don't go subpar. You're doing yourself a disservice, and a sound designer who cares about quality will just reject recordings that come from internal microphones or any other number of devices which were never intended for this kind of vocal application.Kai

Hi,Obviously I'm asking this to Aprone, but if anyone else knows the answer I'd appreciate it from you as well. But the reason I ask Aprone in particular, is because at least on multi1 map of swamp, there are well over 10 individual tiles, however the map loads pretty much instantaneously when it's launched. So what I'm asking is, how do you do that tile system? Are the tiles really just big rectangles that have a start x, end x, start y, and end y? Or do you have it so that every tile (coordinate) on the map is stored? I would have assumed the first, but in using CAE Jone's map editor, I found that it's actually quite possible to set tiles individually, as in you could have  grass in a rectangle all the way from 1 1 to 10 10, and plop a dirt tile at 4, 3 and it would save just fine, leading me to believe that maybe you store the tiles individually.I looked at the multi1 map file to see if I could get an idea, but it's more s

Hello everybody, we had very exciting day  and played many matches, I need to say that it was fun.  especially Everyone VS Dalibor Everyone has beaten Dalibor in the first round with fighting type against rock. In the second round  both took fairy but Dalibor had more luck and made it 1:1. Last one was Dalibor with a ghost type against Everyone with a bug type, this round finished  fast  cause Dalibor  has got very good cards at the beginning. In My Opinion this was match of the day! Aaron, good ear. That behavior can be turned on or off, and I turned it off for the demo. The reason is that it automatically announces what's in front of you whenever it changes. So if I turn, it automatically announces how far away the wall is, and so on. I found that it cluttered up the demo far too much with information that someone listening to the demo doesn't need to know. With auto-forward-scan off, you can still scan forward on demand - it just doesn't happen automatically.

Then you should look into a smaller unit than the Tascam... it'll save you money, as wel as space. Just look around for audio interfaces that have s/PDIF out. Asio compliant is almost a guarantee with most interfaces now on the market, so that doesn't limit your options... I'd be surprised if any interface doesn't support it these days. For me personally, I've never used S/PDIF out and know almost nothing about it... any EQ I want to do is done in the software I use for whatever application. The sony headphones I have are beautiful.

Hi all.I am very new to goldwave and I am still learning.I was using adobe audition 3 for many years but recently we upgraded to a windows 10 machine at work and I decided to start using goldwave because it is up to date and more accessible.I am using goldwave with the on board sound card and with a blue yeti usb microphone for recording.The machine is 64 bit.If I open a mono file, goldwave doesn't play it but it plays fine all stereo files.The file seams to open fine, but if I press space to start playback, I don't hear anything.Also I didn't find an easy way to convert a stereo file in to mono.I tried save us and I changed the different parameters to make the file mono but the size of the file doesn't reduce in half like it used to be in adobe audition.So what is the most effective way to make an mp3 file from stereo to mono?Even changing the bit rate doesn't seam to change the size of the fi
 le and I don't understand why.At the moment I am using the old fassion way and I convert wav files in to mp3 using cdex. I find it very effective because I can choose the bitrate I want and it seams to convert the files with no problems.But I didn't find a way to convert stereo files in to mono that way.I am happy with the program free audio converter from www.dvdvideosoft.com, but I will never use their software again because they install other things that I don't need such as avast antivirus toolbars and other things without asking, or mayby the way to avoid them is not accessible with screen readers.I am using nvda by the way.Over all I am very happy with goldwave and I think I increased my working speed when editing something because I can speed up playback etc.Thanks for readingNikos

Ok so what you have to do is first of all make sure that your extFS is working. If you're on windows, I wouldn't recommend messing with this file without first turning the pi on, but regardless the process is essentially the same on or off the pi. If using mac, you've got a bash shell to utilize, and your experience with a pi and ssh is honestly a lot better on the mac in my opinion with all the tools built in. If you're on the windows side, you don't need sighted help to configure wifi on the pi, just connect the pi to your router via ethernet. Now time to ssh. Assuming you've taken the necessary steps to enable ssh manually, you've got Two ways you can do this. With any luck, the the Pi's default host name of raspberrypi will be recognized, and you can ssh into it with a command like so:ssh pi@raspberrypiDepending on what program you utilize for ssh, the process may be a bit different. Nevertheless, wherever it asks you to ente
 r the hostname, type in raspberrypi, and type in pi for the username. Wherever it asks for the password, type in raspberry and then hit enter. If that doesn't work, then we'll have to manually find the Pi's ip address. Load up your router's control panel which usually involves typing in your router's ip address into the address bar, go to wherever your device list is, and do a text search for raspberrypi. You should find it. Make note of the pi address, and repeat the ssh process, only this time entering the ip address. If you get a warning about permanently adding ssh keys, just say yes, after all it's your own personal device. Now if you get into the pi's home directory, you're successful. Now type in sudo nano /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf to open the configuration file up in nano. Go to the bottom of the file and type in the following:network={ssid="your_network_name"psk="your-password"
 }Now press ctrl+x to exit, then y then enter to save the changes. Reboot your pi without it connected to the ethernet cable. Try ssh-ing again. If it works, then you're good to go, and if it doesn't, there's two possibilities. Either the wifi configuration genuinely failed, or the ssh program is reverting to its saved host address. Some ssh programs do that, in which case you need to delete all of your ssh keys and reconnect.

It's for doing damage to multiple  enemies at a time. I believe you can only use it every 10 seconds. And it takes away a small percentage of your health every time you fire it.

because you can link alexa to rodger and enable the skill that way. doing it that way seems to log you into the American alexa so I'm thinking you may have an option there. you have to do it through the web initially but once you've connected it to your account just tell alexa to enable starlanes and in  theory that should work.

Looking for a spasifick type of backup program?

Hi I Am looking for a program that backups my files, but when I delete a file from my computer I want the file to stay on my external hard drive. I don't need file versioning.     Cobian took a very long time to index all the changed files. Sync back was not skejuling the task. But those programs were doing what I was wanting.Is there a way to configure  Cobian backup to not take so long to index? Or is there a whole new program that I could try.

Well for a start I want an interface that cuts down on latency and that has good quality. I don't currently need it for live performances and multi-track recording. I need S/PDIF for my headset which has an equalizer that can only be used when connected via S/PDIF, hence why they sound better when connected like that than when connected via a 3.5mm headphone jack.

I've started a stream for old game reviews

Hey guys. Not sure if this is the right topic for this, but I have started this new stream for the nostalgic side of people. It has old reviews of games that were made by people such as Kelly Sapergia and others. If you want to check it out you can find it at http://darkflier.com:8012/oldgamereviews.mp3 as of right now I only have stuff by Kelly, so if anyone can help me find the usmodean stuff or tell me about anything else, please let me know. Also, if you experience any lag or if it stops completely and comes back, I sincerely apologize for that, I have internet issues which makes it hard to multitask, I hope it doesn't inconvenience anyone to much. Enjoy.

That's indeed what it sounds like... at least, that's what they're trying to sell. How it works, now that's a whole different story... lol or how accessible it is. But yes, it seems like this has a bit more than your typical audio interface. Look up some reviews of the piece and see what people think about it. It looks good, but if you don't need mixing features for live use or for multitrack recording that can't also be done in reaper, a cheaper and smaller audio interface may be a good deal as well. You haven't actually specified what you're looking for other than s/pdif out and why you need even that, so it's hard to recommend what to look for.

I put my name in when I created this topic. My PACmate is sort of showing its' own age. I think it may be a bit on the pricy side to keep it going. Matter of fact, I am surprised it is still working as well as it is. True, I do not think I will win, but why not give it a shot. Have you typed setmod READER 1?If you have and consider is still showing up with punctuation marks denoting strength of enemies and such, then I have sad news. The consider command was supposed to be coded to give us different output with reader mode enabled, but if it isn't then it hasn't happened yet. Your only option is to try to count the vertical bars for the various outputs.

No, the game certainly is not depending on you as a community to provide the voice work. In fact, I'm assuming that the majority of the voice work will come from the hobbyist/semi-pro voice acting community at large. However, since several of you had asked about the possibility of auditioning for a role, we wanted to include the casting call here as well, for anyone who's interested.
