How do we find the correct finger placement for classic piano songs?

Hi guys. The title says it all. How are we(the blind) supposed to find the correct finger placement for a classic piano song when there is no braille sheets for that song around? For example "the flight of the bumble bee". I don't know any books in braille that has this song in it, specially in my country. The song is of course a complex one and is harder to do with just guessing the finger placements myself, specially when I'm new to this kind of complex and farely fast piano songs. Tried googling this too. It popped out results about sheet musics which are not accessible to the blind, or forums that people asked about the finger placement for the flight of the bumble bee which there are the finger placements for just a bit of the song in them. I have no way of reading musical notes in pdfs.Could anyone help?

It is a bit on the pricy side, due to exchange rates being a bit more expensive than the likes of the Orbit Reader 20 and Braille Me, though arguably has amuch greater value add. In some ways, its fantastic, especially the open source nature of it, but in others its abit of a stand still because of the price range. But, the Canute isn't operating in a vacuum, and there are a few other displays that have quietly started surfacing, like [this] little open source chessnut I've mentioned before that costs 104.14€ in parts, the only catch being that you'll have to source the parts and assemble it yourself, or with some help, as there is no official manufacturer. Given the way things are going, I thinks its quite possible that the costs of braille may continue to collapse, I've also seen a few open source braille embossers floating around built out of 3D printer parts, such as [brailleRAP-SP].

I would not encourage anyone to either play this game or run the server. (And don't remake it in BGT, use Python -- you'll need good networking and multithreading).Again, do not run this server at all. It has terrible multithreading support (which we needed) and it was written at a time we didn't know how to use multithreading systems. It uses far too much CPU and is generally not computer friendly at all. And rewriting it is an "out of the question" thing since no one has the code any more to either the server or client that I know of. You can try and remake it, but I doubt anyone can help you with the mechanics, so your game will likely not be even remotely close to the original.

I would encourage Syncthing, purely because it has some advantages that BTSync does not (i.e. uses far less memory and resources than BTSync does, and is accessible since it uses no GUI client, just a web interface).

Hello folks, Adrieli, a dear friend of mine is in need of help, she's a beginning artist from Brazil, and recently she earned a great chance to start out profissionaly. She's a singer, but her greatest dream is to become a voice actress. But being blind, at least here in Brazil, makes things painfully hard. She participated on a series of contests in order to try and earn some funding to be able to take acting and voice acting lessons, and she managed to achieve good results. Now she needs about $500 in order to pay for promo material, the only thing left for her to officially start taking said classes.That money would cover the recording of a promo video, an acting teacher for prepare her for the video, clothing and a photo book. hopefully I don't get slapped for thread necromancy! but this topic has had a very good, clean and worthwhile history that I would like to add a few things:For one, Its been amazingly helpful, especially since I will be in a similar situation pretty soon (will be moving out with my brother)and already got a few things as  far as cooking goes:1. a set of rubber pads for jars and so on, 2. a talking thermometer which should prove useful for starting out or some specific recipes, and 3. what some call a boiling control diskThis I guess would prove useful too when making everything? I am interested specifically if anyone has had experience with hard boiled eggs since I happen to find them really convenient and really good before and after a workout and also good as a protein snack. I am working on finding out what grill would be good to get and if anyone can post any product links it would be much appreciated. And secondly, I think we can still keep on sharing some more information. I don't feel as nervous because I am not going to do this 100% alone, but keeping track of bills and the like is also a bit of a concern. Do any of you use spreadsheets and so on to keep expenses and earnings stabilized or in balance?also, we will have a dishwasher and I think the products I just mentioned, at least the disk is dishwasher safe so all good there. In regards to cleaning or cooking or whatever other products what else do you think is important?and out of curiosity, what is the most difficult thing you have found regarding living on your own as far as maintenance or preparation goes?ah, yes. I'm going to assume you mean concatenation of two files and start there. So, load up both sounds, the original, and the thing you want to tack on. Hit control A control C, control tab to your first file, then control E to paste at the end. I'm assuming you do not want to overwrite that file, if you so, simply hit control S and it is done. If you want to make a new one, hit Alt F then A and fill in a new filename.Mixing two sounds works a bit differently. Repeat the steps above until you're back in your first window with the second sound copied. Then find the point in the file you want the mix to start and hit left bracket to move your start marker to your edit cursor, then hit control M and enter.Of course, the first method which is concatenating two files will come with its own consequences, like unnatural start/end and stuff you may have to work out.

well but see, what is so really unique about it? I would think that it is a smaller device, and so doing what you are supposed to do like replying texts and chats and all of the other functions would be clunky at best. What is the added value of having one, and more so from a blind experience?

I haven't time to write full android layouts tutorial here, so I'll just name few places, which could keep you going.But before, I don't know if you have any experiences with android apps development, so will recapitulate it in a short.1. These stages are for example creation of activity, that is the OnCreate method overrided by default, which as you can see contains loading of the layout style and displaying it, paused stage, when the activity is hidden, and you can detect it with OnPause and OnResume (or something like that), destroy stage, when the activity gets destroyed.These are just few examples, you can read more about it by searching for activity lifecycle.3. An activity, in case it has a graphical interface, usually contains a layout file (activity_main.xml or activity_main.axml in case of xamarin, you can find it in resources/layout/). This file defines, what will be the activity composed of, and how it will look like.But be careful here, in this case layout has a bit more practical meaning, than one might expect. It isn't just a name for the xml file, or a term to describe activity design, but layouts are on android also containers, which help you to place components in a specific way. For example, linear layout will position everything you put in in a line. One object beside another. Relative layout will position items in it in relation to each other i.e. you specify where is a button in relation to edit field (TextBox on android), instead of setting their position individually.Each layout is more or less suitable for certain situation and while your activity's design can consist just from one layout, it is also no problem to dive one layout into another, for example to use relative layout in a linear layout or vice versa, and use that way the best layout for every part of the activity.4. Hi.On our end the speech is not unclear. There are quite a few people playing it without issue. Two things come to mind.1. The speech is pretty loud. Try turning it down in settings or just by pressing f5 after the game is running. Even if it doesn't sound loud, it might be possible that it is distorting the compression on your sound card. I actually have a sound card that does that, and I have to turn affects off in windows itself. I have issues with everything sounding silly though when this is on, and I quite honestly wonder why pc manufacturers even bother. With this Lenovo if I wear headphones and use my screen reader or play any game for very long at all my ears start ringing and I get dizzy and my head hurts, until I turn Dolby off.I also have a little tablet AsusTeK T100TA-Am that distorts if the speech is at anything louder than say, -10 on speakers. Works fine with headphones though. The speakers distort easily on that tablet anyway so this is not a surprise.2. The speech files are all jumbled together. It may take practice to understand the speech this way. The default separation is what we think is a good compromise of intelligibility versus efficiency, but it may help to try setting speech file queue before end delay all the way down to 0 to bring this more in line with how most games using recorded speech work. This item is also in settings.3. Can't promise anything yet because this is in the early stages and we may hit an unforeseen road block, but we might possibly be making it easy to switch to a different speech pack.Aaron

Reading a book on the Focus today made me think of something else that I can't stand about having a device tethered to your computer. I'm in a couple of Skype groups, and the notifications often pop up and I have to wait for them to disappear before continuing with my book. Now that is annoying. The solution, of course, would be to mute those groups while reading, but I don't really want to do that. It's just another reason why I miss having a notetaker, or dedicated stand-alone reading device.

Hi,I'll respond to the developments in this thread. For blindness training, I think that approaching it as training to perform a task exclusively  without  sight is ultimately a harmful approach. Mobility and orientation training should ultimately aim to teach a person to maximize their functional and usable  senses, including any stable vision that a person might have, rather than taking those senses away  to  teach them a life without them, which would not be realistic, as they would have access to said senses after the training. The only instance in which this would be acceptable is when the condition of the person is known and it is reasonable to expect the person to lose most or all of their usable vision. Also, I don't think using the same approaches and methods for all blind people would be a good idea iether. For example, one person might have nerve damage, so their tactile sense might not be as good. Or another might have hearing loss or balance issues, in which regular mobility training might not be successful, and some  techniques might not be possible at all. Granted, vision does dominate sensory input to such as a level as to modify input from the other senses. For examples of this, you can look up the mcgurk affect, in which a word is spoken, and paired with a mismatched visual of someone speaking another word. In most cases, the vision overrides the speech input, so that the person will hear the word they saw on the screen.As for brain modification from sensory deprevation, the rule of thumb should be for the deprived period not to exceed 50% of the waking hours  to prevent changes from taking place.

I’ve been with this guy almost from the beginning. I actually met him on rs games before he told me he had a YouTube channel. What caused this guy to give me his phone number? I don’t know. But we talk pretty much everyday, 50% of our conversation about his tts work, even back then. Several years of tts conversation has helped create new characters, modify existing ones, and construct tuns of ideas for the drawing board. I admit I influenced gore and inappropriate scenes, but we were 2 kids, did you expect different? Even today we have a dark universe for these characters not discussed to the public. As the years went by, his characters became stupider and stupider. I believe the reason for this is him embracing his stupidity. Look at his username... We have had many heavy disagreements in our friendship, but he has always told me, you are someone who can be an idiot with me and enjoy it. His channel has been largely inspired not only by having me as a friend and a creative imagination, but by Chris Wright as well. His skits were the very thing that made an idiot start his own work. And of course we have to thank books too for giving him imagination. Finally, there is one more thing that has influenced his work. Something not many incorporate enough in their work and lives... culture. I’ll let him give the culture rant.

@crashmaster, I actually sent you an email regarding this a while ago, not sure if you saw it or not since I used the forum email system and those are known to be buggy. Hi. I've heard good things with the Motorola phones but i am a Samsung guy. Here in Trinidad, a J6 costs about 200 US and my phone works great. To answer you can just press volume up and it answers. Volume down rejects the call. to hang up you can press power or press the button on the screen. I dont know about the Samsung bloatware with a bunch of apps you dont use. There is a few actually, but i think the apples are more victim to that than the samsung. The a series costs 4-500 US in trinidad. That's half the price of the cheapest iPhone. If i were you, i'd go Samsung. Also, Samsungs are more durable. That's why my dad got one and got a j6 for me. He works in construction and i am a 13 year old visually impaired kid. I dropped my phone a couple of times on hard concreate and on the road and my phone isnt that banged up and it runs like a clock. Google  Assistant is really accissible and it has fun games to pass time and it works really great with sms and whatsapp. I use it to call people when i feel lazy, which is all the time  Voice Assistant works just like voice over. I used the both of them and they were pretty simular. Voice assistant has less gestures to remember so thats a plus. Its really up to you, but i think Samsung is a really great choice. The Motorolas are good choices based on what my friends told me.

Playable marvel games

With the recent release of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, I am in the mood  to play some game set in the marvel universe. However, for one reason or another, the above game is probably not going to be playable, and its prequel has puzzle elements and quick time event bosses which means also not fully playable. Thus, my question is, what are some playable, and most importantly, completeable games set in the marvel universe, mainstream or otherwise? Some obvious examples include the marvel versus series by capcom, x-men arcade by Konami, maybe the spiderman and venum series on snes and mega drive, maybe marvel nemesis rise of the imperfect, though the lack of voice acting and cutscenes in the psp version hurts the game. Probably x-men mutant academy on psx is playable. So, what am I missing, and what have you discovered? Describe your findings and experiences here!

Ahh yes, the Freedom Scientific takeover. I remember when Blazie actually made it a priority to insure everyone's support inquiries were solved. Same with Henter Joice and Arkanstone. But then the FS merge led the tech support system into some priority disarray favoring x level of paid customers and how important the issues were. If you look at Access World backissues you'll also see that the FS merger was bad news for dealers like Humanware that were actually allowed to sell copies of Jaws, and An Openbook Unbound devices, as FS cut off all dealer relations.

They lead directly into war of the idiots,  so making an episode six wouldn’t really work.   What I can do however is reupload those three episodes, two of which were ridiculously small, as a single  Legacy  video,  So it won’t interfere with any future episodes.  I can also re-upload the war of the idiots videos in a legacy edition, hopefully improving the upload  Quality, the uploaded versions did not have the best.  I probably should’ve done it along time ago.  But if anyone is horrible with procrastination, it’s me.

I think I'll pass on this one, spent some time with the demo on Friday. Seems to be presented pretty well, but as far as the gameplay goes, just ain't grabbing me. Part of it may just be the whole rock paper scissors thing that's valor burst, but so far it just seems simplistic. If there's more to it after release though, I might come back to it. I tried this with my Olympus recorder as well. I have audio, but, there is a quite intrusive white noise type of sound directly in the center of the audio field. Nothing I do seems to fix this. Anyone have any ideas?

Hi all.Oh man, this old thing!Firstly, I was part of the test team on that one.Firstly, the game was pulled for a reason.Bugs, lag, people getting out of banns, drama, need I say more.Point is you have archive, fine.Reality software won't stop you distributing crap!The game is what it is.There were attempts to restart it so many times.Dm1 sidescroler sadly was the only finnished game.That was tried 3-4 times to get back off the ground.I'm going to see what is in this archive just to see what is in there.This game was a nice idea but well good luck trying to use it now.

It's been a while, but I seem to remember them being fairly slow, so you can lure them to one place, then jump to the other end of the area and do your business before they get back / more show up. It's kinda tedious in big places like the jail, since more show up in the time it takes you to accomplish anything, but yeah, take advantage of your speed to put distance between you and them.

3840 dots! this is just amazing stuff this is really interesting, especially because electronic braille production has been a very proprietary based secret stuff, and so what they intend to do here is laudable to me as it will just allow all of us to go forward by open sourcing the information, it was about time.I really like how he explains the difficulties from every perspective from the disadvantages of using magnets to the higher costs and so on, plus the materials you use and where you might obtain some of them.They are also taking pre-orders by the way. TO me the price is somewhat steep because the colombian peso is probably one of the more weak currencies in the world as of this shameful moment, but I do believe the price they are offering is quite impressive for the sheer quantity of electronic braille you are getting. It's the minimalism born out of severe memory constraints that became the hallmark of Scott's classic adventures.His more contemporary titles, namely Return To Pirate's Island II and The Inheritance, do not suffer from these constraints, and the parser does rank up there with Infocom's although it takes a completely different approach, being based on liberal pattern matching rather than strict formal grammar rules. You just can't compare them directly, except maybe to mention that Scott's is more error-tolerant and slightly less predictable. I was trying to find value or usefulness in smart watches, but that is why I had bought this thing in the first place... I found most of them to be inaccurate or fall short on functionality or reliability, all of the reviews had the same tone. Then again most of them I also found too expensive.

I think I have all the games that shipped with the braille lite m 40. In fact, I also have one myself but its ... a bit broken since the scrolling wheels tend to make the de display.. well, erratic. I remember saving and backing up all of those files, I need to dig into my external hard drives in a few weeks to see if they are still there which last time I had checked they were indeed. Not sure if I still have bns files for the braille n speak which I burned years ago by plugging the wrong adapter on it, but well.Fixing the braille m 40 will be just a voodoo trick here, because boredom science fiction never answered any contact e-mails I sent them (as usual, go figure) and I am an international loser... sorry, customer. So tough luck I guess. I also was trying to find the localization file for Spanish for it but was not successful because as far as I remember, that was nowhere on the floppies they had sent with it.

Hi.Aaron again.I've got code that can do this, but it doesn't work well with delaying. This is because the screen readers don't report through their various access methods this relies on when they finish speaking. There's a similar setup to how GMA's games handle it, where it goes by the number of words and you calibrate it by letting it say something and telling it when it stopped, then that creates a bit of an average that sort of works.There's also the issue that if you want to interrupt the speech you can't do so with control unless the screen reader supports speakInterrupt with a blank string. I think all of them do. Note that if you don't need the keyboard hooking function in the game to be on then control will work anyway.The main issue is that delay estimator thing isn't always accurate. You'll have the game continuing on either too soon or too late in situations where it was supposed to wait until speech finished.A future game we have planned will need a lot of long winded speech output that won't lend itself to recorded speech, so we'll likely explore this and hopefully other options while we're at it at that point.Another reason not to do this though is that players can slide in a translation for the game, or their own preferred speech folder even if the same language, then all the recorded speech might be in say, Spanish even though the game is really English. It's never perfect, but it's sometimes good enough to get by, where translating all strings that would go to the screen reader or SAPI or which ever is not a simple proposition for us or who ever wants to handle the translation.We are working on generating a text file with the file names and the strings each file has which may help translators or other players who just want to mod the game by providing their own pack instead. The bulk of the work here will be on whom ever wants to make the mod, but it should be a possibility. I have to code a new entry in settings though to allow for this, because if you put modified speech files in the speech folder the next time the game updates it may accidentally delete them if they're in the default speech folder. So this will involve pointing the game at a completely separate folder.

You're out of luck if you want to pay any of the sound-based games. Braille Light 40 can't utilize the beeper in your speech chip. So you'd need to play the games either in their respective text-only modes, or just not play a few of them at all (pinball and Click Invaders will absolutely not work, since they rely entirely on sound).
