Re: Introducing Forge, an ACcessible version of Magic: the Gathering

In fact, it was unchecked, and checking it did the trick. However, for some reason, I still can't play. Everything is fine, I can navigate everything once again and golden cursor works just fine again, but now, I have no idea why, object nav can't see any cards, in my hand or in enemy's field. I can find the place where they should be, like the label "Your Hand", but when I navigate to the side to see the cards it delays for an instant and simply jumps to my enemy's field, as if my hand were empty (it is not). This particular bug never happened before in the weeks I've been playing.

Re: We should be able to delete our own topics!

Clearly what needs to happen is that the community needs to migrate to a better maintained forum. The problems are:1. If we start anew, we need some way to preserve, and quickly access, all these years of posts.2. Someone would need to step up to the plate and start, run, and be responsible for the running of a new forum site. This would include hiring/choosing/electing admins, moderators, etc.3. If it's going to be used, it has to get traction. People have to actually use it in order for it to take off. That having been said, I've played with it a bit, and if my memory serves, PHPBB provides some features we could really use here. I'm pretty sure it allows topics to be deleted, where "deleted" actually means they're rendered invisible to the general public, but actually stay right where they are. Then, of course, moderators/admins/etc. can do a different kind of delete where that information is actually removed from the forum, so it's truly lost and gone forever. PHPBB also allows for multiple, customizable moderator/admin roles. So, for example, you could have one group who are allowed to, let's say, approve new members and move topics, but nothing else. Then you have another group with more moderator privileges, and your super duper admins who can add new moderators, etc.Just some thoughts.

Re: enough is enough, and it's time for a change.

Putting aside whether or not the assets are legal for a moment, audiogames probably aren't the only things that make use of stock sounds. Sometimes sounds in an English dub of an anime (like Yu-Gi-Oh!) have sounds changed to more familiar ones. Sometimes it isn't obvious when you're focused on the story. I'm sure plenty of mainstream games use stock sounds as well. And really, that's what they're meant for. Reuse. It takes some of the pain out of sound design, and not everyone has the ability or inclination to design sounds from scratch. Would you rather pay once for libraries that can be used multiple times, or pay for the services of someone else multiple times? All that said, Sound Ideas does have designer toolkits. These are collections of various sounds that can be mixed and processed to make entirely new sounds. People who want to avoid stock sounds can invest in these and attempt to make something new for certain cases. Failing that, stock sounds can be mixed and manipulated as well.

Re: food handling

yeah, I really like that with few ingredients you can really have something going. Its sort of a staple here to put the sauce I mentioned on pretty much anything, including scrambled eggs. You can make your own version of an arepa, which is like a fat tortilla we have here if you get oil, masarepa (precooked, ground corn flour ) water, salt and sugar. You don't need anything else. Just boil water (2 cups), then throw  that all in (one cup of flour, and it depends how sweet or salty you want them so you can try putting a big salt spoon and a smaller sugar one and taste), wait for it to cool some and it will form a dough. Good thing is, if its too dry, or too wet, you can always add more ingredients to balance it so there is really no way anyone could really mess them up.  stir that up with a spoon, become a child who plays with dough and using your your hands and roll that into fist sized balls. Then flatten the dough balls you just made (quarter an inch thick, or 1 cm, or whatever you prefer) and put them on the palm of your hand. Now, rotate the dough with the other hand and place the thumb (using the hand that holds) on the border of the dough, to give the shape and contour. Whatever the technique , Basically you want to make disks. Then you could just oil a pan and cook them (3 minutes per side is just about enough), or I bet you could even use an air fryer. This is their simplest form, but you could also fill them up. To do this you get whatever topping you want once you have the disks made, then fold them and flatten them again. Toppings could be endless: cheese (grated is best but small mozzarella cubes work because it will melt anyway), or you could also use ground or pulled apart beef, chicken breast or pork could be good fillings too.I normally like to make them a bit sweeter and fill them up with mozzarella, as you could accompany them with hot chocolate anytime, or just make them as a side dish for any other meal. They will last for about 5 days in the fridge after being cooked so you can consume them at pretty much any time of the day.Note that:1. you could vary the type of precooked flour but massarepa is the better, more nutritious and easier flour to use.2. The dough should be warm when you massage it. You could make some dough and store it in the fridge as well, for later use.I will definitely try to get and slice that pineapple. There is a good thing to do with pineapple, stolen right out of brazilian rodicios (cookouts):Get a slice of it and put it on a pan, cook it a bit,  and top it with  just a bit of powdered cinnamon. Works great as a sort of side dish.

Then you have another group with more moderator privileges, and your super duper admins who can add new moderators, etc.Just some thoughts.

lmho. I made a horsey. It went in a very unhorselike charge. also maybe you could remove the street boundary? first it's overused,  and second you can just make it from -60 to 60 if you dont want to remove it. Btw, maybe you'd consider replacing the spikes with something like. rocks or something, it makes 0 percent sense for spikes to be in the street

When it was just said that there would be at least a 5 year mainstream support cycle. Not to mention the fact that Windows 10 is being updated as a service anyway, so there's a slim chance of there even being a new major Windows version. Except Windows XP: 30th Anniversary special Community Edition, or something.

@rings2006: I'll recommend you to give the demonstration I linked to a listen and decide for yourself.I don't know if the OCR result itself is any different. With VOCR, you can, in a completely inaccessible window, do OCR, focus on the icons and buttons and click on them with the mouse, which actually makes it usable. This is demonstrated in the demonstration I linked to.I'm not sure if you can do that in Windows, with Jaws or NVDA.

Re: something in computer industry i find pritty vorrying

Defender you can actually go gaming rig  without gaming rig prices though, at least  not to a significant extent. You can get a system with an AMD H series processor, which is alot cheaper than intel offerings, while offering much better multicore and similar single core performance. I recently got an rp17, and this machine is cooled like a monster, with 4 exhaust ports on the back and sies. In blind tech groups, I see the experienced users trying to get people who ask for advice to buy $500 machines, or shit like celeron processors or i3,. I saw a guy try to convince a guy asking advice to get 8 gb ram, and a fourth gen processor, claiming ddr4 didn't make any difference in performance,  ansd a forth gen processor was adequate for  daily tasks. But the truth is, there really is advantages to getting an i7 as opposed to an i5 or 3, or an r7/9 over an r3/5. I don't know what it is, but screen readers feel alot more responsive with  higher end components, and there really is benefit to getting them. As for battery life, the whole thing seems pointless to me, for me, battery life is irrelevent, as I keep my laptop plugged in constantly, so that isn't a consideration at all. And those underpowered processors make screen readers etc feel laggy, and are much more thermally throttled, so you pay a price. Keyboards are really getting bad. Toshiba used to have desktop like keyboards, but when they went out of business, I have  been hearing about terrible designs.  Like one reason I got this pc because the keyboard was reviewed to have good key travel, and because of the presence of a numb pad, but the insert key is shaped exactly the same size as the keys around it and the arrow keys etc, are crammed right in with everything else, and don't have distinguishing size. Laptop keyboards really are unhealthy and harm your typist speed. After using a desktop keyboard  attached to a laptop, I realized just how efortless typing on one is, since I hadn't used one for many years, so I went ahead and ordered a full size keyboard to hook up to my laptop for more comfortable typing. This machine does have a dropjaw port though. Not having an ethernet port would be a deal breaker for me. I can see over 40 wireless networks, and that pretty much garanties that I would get a terrible signal.

Re: learning bgt with open source games

BGT should give you an overview of how limited it is, if to learn it you are forced to either:1. read the manual, which may be an issue for non native english speakers.2. Read Open source projects that weren't meant to be open sourced in the first place and that will just teach you bad habits and wrong practices.3. Read leaked codebases, which will make your life even more difficult since the codebase is big, there's most likely no documentation for it, and the same points that apply for point 2.While in a mainstream language, what you can do is as simple as searching on google. There are lot of books, I'm sure that if one will give you a hard time, you still have other 10 tousands options around. There are lot of questions on stackoverflow or elsewhere that will answer errors which you might encounter. it's simply a matter of copying your error, pasting it in the search box and pressing enter. And of course, there are open source projects, but this time, that are also designed  to be easy for beginners to read and understand. Not to mention that you are not limited to ask questions you have on here because here is the only place that knows the language that you're using, BGT I'm looking at you. I'm sure that people could go on for a day telling you what the advantages to learning a mainstream language is, but I hope you do get the idea.PS:@30 Please define archaic

ok so pineapple is easy.  Slice off the crown and bottom, then use a large knife to slice off the skin on the sides. I used cans recently because I was kind of lazy to cut up a pineapple, but a freshly cut one tastes alot better if you do it that way.

Re: accessible air fryers

@9You don't want an all-in-one air fryer because the point of the air fryer is primarily that it's a convection oven on steroids.  My grandmother has the Ninja Foody for example, and it's great at everything *but* air frying.  As soon as you start making it do other things they seem to start sacrificing on the fans and heating elements and stuff and that's just not going to work.  But the high-end all in one gadgets do seem to do great at being all in one for everything else, surprisingly enough.

Want one; saw a 7 in one appliance that acted as both instapot and air fryer and was skeptical because 7 in 1 appliance... I think I'll stick to the separate gadgets rather than trying to find an all in one bells and whistles inclusive item.  I hate toaster ovens for that very reason... I had one that said it could broil, bake, toast and something else I don't remember off the top of my head at present, but I found it was best for toasting and that's it.

rofl it'd be amuzing if you made enemies be able to throw each other. so you'd make each enemy stand like 2 steps away from each other, then they'd go crazy kicking and punching. and enemy might fall down back about 8 feet, and the attacking enemy will move over to it and punch it. but yeah probably can't happen since the sounds wouldn't quite suit that.

going to address this since I didn't clarify well enough.  @Liam, that's precisely what I'm not suggesting, but which is one of those things that is getting under my skin and overlooked at present.  It puts the burden entirely on you and other reputable, legit devs who do own this content, because others are misusing it.  In short, there's nothing at all other than you presenting some sort of legal proof that you actually own the stuff, where once upon a time benefit of the doubt was the normal standard for our community.  Apparently, as far as the mods are concerned that will not be the rule we play by anymore.  Anyone can call out anything because it uses sounds from something that sounds far too familiar/have been used in some other project/stock sound designing because cheap/easy/convenient/whatever.  My hope is that the solution is a lot simpler than it seems from where I'm standing, but because copyright is changing ever so often to include who should own what titles to this or that thing... I just don't see the end in sight, and any temporary fixes, no matter how I try to dress them, don't look pretty.

Huh interesting recommendations.@5, are Dark Echo, Dan the Man, or Nub, accessible without vision?Another game which comes to mind is Lane Splitter. I played this a little bit a few years ago. It's a cool driving game. Last time I played it, sounds were easy to hear, but menus/scoring was inaccessible. But with screen OCR in IOS 14 it just might work. Haven't tried it in ages, though, so of course I can't tell you how IOS 14 plays with it.

Re: Dexed VST Query in Reaper

@3, there are two ways. The only difference between them being how you send the sysex data out.1. Use Reaper's system exclusive functions to try to send the sysex data, in your case the .syx files, to the plug-in. If the sound changes, you're in luck; Dext is receptive to realtime sysex. If nothing changes, then you'll have to import the sysex using the interface I'm afraid.Like I say I haven't tried this so I don't know how to do it in Reaper natively. Heck I'm not even sure if Reaper can send sysex to plug-ins, it might only work on hardware for all I know. I really need to learn how Reaper's midi stuff works/doesn't work.2. Alternatively you can set another sequencer, in my case QWS, to send midi data to Reaper using a midi cable, then use QWS to send the sysex data. For midi cables, I use Loop midi, but there are others. Some people prefer Midi Yoke for instance, though I have no idea if anyone uses that anymore, or if it even still works.Heck I should probably just test Dext out for myself so I can let you know if this works or not lol

Gunicorn behind Nginx is the typical way to do this, but if that's giving you trouble I suggest trying Heroku.  They've got a free tier, you do a very small amount of stuff to your git repo and then type git push heroku to do deploys.I wouldn't try to combine learning programming and configuring your web server at the same time, just let Heroku deal with it assuming that doesn't also give you trouble.

As much as nintendo says they care, they most likely don't. That statement is probably just there to check off a box, like "oh yeah, we have an accessibility feedback number, back to working on the next Mario."I'm sorry, as much as I would love to have a full-featured screen reader on the switch, giant games companies such as Nintendo have been slow to take visually impaired feedback into consideration when creating their hardware and software, *cough* Soni *cough*. While some games companies (Naughty Dog, The Coalition, Etc.) have started to add accessibility into their games, it will most likely be another decade or two before screen readers are universally available on all consoles. I applaud Microsoft, as much as I dislike them as a company, for at least trying to start the ball rolling in this direction, and hopefully Narrator will be even better on the XBox Series X.

@defender I fully agree with you. Not sure if it's going to play out like that, though.

@musicalmanThis is why I was insisting that only the most affected party should be the one to make the official request for it to be taken down, in order to reduce the impact on the database especially with older games and to focus on what's actually most important in terms of harm.@queenslightI hope so, but it's been years and everyone who has tried failed, so I'm not banking on that being any different this time around...@EthinThe owner of the AG Archive is extra paranoid about copyright and dev permission, which I can sorta understand.  So if ag.net removes them, they almost certainly will as well.

Re: Making a case for Autoit

Hey guys,I didn't watch the video, and I've never used Autoit, but I figured I'd throw my two cents on this subject anyway. First off, I'm glad someone pointed out that it can do more than automation.  I spent a couple years doing a lot of automation using AutoHotKey (which was a fork of Autoit or something like that), and soon I was able to use it for pretty much anything.  It can display GUI windows, interact with COM objects, call native DLLs, and one guy even found a way to get it to talk to .NET Framework objects.  I'm sure some of those features of AutoHotKey made their way upstream to Autoit.  But neither language has really made it outside of its niche.  In fact, even in that job where I was doing a lot of automation, we eventually replaced AHK with straight Win32 calls because the hanchos wanted a "more standard programming language".  And I kind of get that - I know a lot of other programmers, but I haven't met one who know AutoHotKey.  But that doesn't necessarily change the fact that AHK is awesome.  I'm sure the same goes for Autoit.  You never know what a language is capable of until you check it out.But having said that, I'm also a big fan of using the right tool for the right project.  Like okay, I'll admit it, I totally love C (a language that gets a lot of criticism).  I personally feel OOP is overrated, and the simple act of decoupling data from actions has helped me fix tons of bugs even in languages that are very object-oriented (mostly _javascript_, PHP and Python).  I like that C can be super-low-level (with compilers for 8-bit systems and microcontrollers like the Arduino, both of which are things I enjoy messing with) and can also be high-level (with libraries like SDL, CURL, SQLite and so on making it practical, and way easier, to create good-quality software).  But as much as I love it, I would never use C to build the server-side logic behind a web app.  I would go with Python or PHP for that.  On the other hand, I would never try to build an audio game in PHP.  PHP can be used to write shell scripts, so technically it could be done, but that doesn't make it the best choice. This weekend, I saw the movie "the Karate Kid" for the first time, and I think that movie has a perfect example: why the heck would you try to kill a fly with chopsticks?  It can be done, and if you manage to do it you look pretty darn cool, but a fly swatter is objectively a more effective tool.  So I have no doubt you could build a game with Autoit - maybe a really good game - but I think I'll stick to C.

Re: enough is enough, and it's time for a change.

Guys, lets wait and see.  Honestly, I think this thing went way out of hand on all sides, and there is a lot that's still not being considered, such as why someone should be given the benefit of a doubt versus someone else who might or has use the same sounds and so on.  The fact is that it's no secret that almost every iconic audiogame of the past 20 years has used sounds from Hollywood Edge and sound ideas libraries or other notable names in the industry.  This is why myself and others in this fieled have been trying to discourage the use of stock sound libraries for awhile now.  Yes, the sounds are popular; yes, it makes it easy to allow people to distinguish what something is if you use a sound that you have already heard in Golden Eye, Perfect Dark, Body Harvest, Mortal Kombat, Final Fantasy, GTA, Quake, Doom, Turok, Super Smash Brothers, any DK title after Country, any title on an n64, playstation or later units... I'm sure you get the point.  The idea here is that the issue is huge.  The past 10 to 15 years in particular have given more people access to those and other huge production libs by use of torrenting and other p2p sharing applications, so its like letting the proverbial cat out of the cage it was in, finding out it was bigger than your average domestic house cat, much closer to a saber toothed tiger in size and trying to catch it again.  The long and short of it is that this won't be an easy win win situation for everyone. But the problem truly is one of systematic neglect.  Audiogamers have refused to pay for audiogames when good titles have been released, resorting to cracking them because of this, that or the other, placing developers in a bind.  To break even, developers have taken shortcuts such as using iconic sounds rather than paying for something a little more out of the box... I can name everything from Super Liam and Judgement day, to Swamp, to q9, which all make use of the previously mentioned groups of libraries, which for your clarification are super pricy, even if all you want to do is give gamers familiarity.  Some of these sounds are available for free use on websites like the ever perpetual partners in rhyme and people use them regularly in their youtube productions, podcasts, yada yada yada.  Why?  Because it's easy, cheap, quick and familiar!  This, however, is the end result, and you're all seeing it play out!But enough really is enough, as the title says, and if you want a change, you're going to have to contribute to it.  If you want a new face on audiogaming, you're going to have to put something into it to get something out of it!  It needs to be give and take, not take and take,  All this mudslinging and acting as if the mods are simply out to get you because "my favorite game/soundpack/link" is being removed from the database in an attempt to cover all of our butts... I'm sorry to say that in all reality even the mods know that it's far too little too late and that this load of nonsense which has persisted in this community because of self-enablism for far too long is going to come back and bite us somewhere along the way, and the most we can do now is what California is trying to do for its wildfires, or to put it into greater perspective, to do what we're all trying to do for the world we live in and its environment.  Fossil fuels are dangerous; air polution is spreading.  The globe is warming!  Hurricane seasons are becoming more destructive as the years go by!  Such things are going to take time to heal!  The same is true here!  Point me to the latest game with awesome sounds that aren't being borrowed from stock sound design toolkits/platforms and tel me that game truly made it big!  How long ago was it!  Is it still selling?  Is it still as famous/popular today as it was when it was first produced/sold, or has it outrun its sehlflife? And if the latter is true, are the devs working on a new project?  If not, why not?  Did money run out?  Was there some other contributor?  No... Say what you will, but if there's one point I believe Smoke has gotten right in at least one of his articles it would be that this community has been hanging on to old and dead matterial for far too long, particularly as it pertains to sound ideas and the Hollywood edge catalogues.  Clones are only part of the issue... I don't believe they would be as rampant if this sound matter hadn't gotten so out of hand.  The only way to put a stop to this nonsense it to even be having this discussion, and when we all resort to nothing but kneejerk reactions about who's doing what for what reason and acting as if only one party or camp is going to be hurt by it, nobody wins!  If we really want to win, we're going to have to accept that there even is a problem, and those involved with it are going to have to take responsibility for it!  In short, my final word to this topic, as harsh as it's going to come across, is either own up or

Re: The Synthizer Thread

@294Huh, I had always assumed that for SoD he just did a simple tapped delay line and fed the footstep to that, but I guess you could bake it into the audio files if you really wanted.  In either case Synthizer now lets you do that right.Custom effects is complicated.  Let's say, not right now.  I could expose it, but it's the kind of thing where doing it wrong will cause audio glitching and it's not possible for me to force people to do it right.  I'll probably never expose it in Python or, if I did, it'd just be a very thin wrapper over some stuff that expects you to feed it pointers to C functions.  I've talked about this some in other parts of this thread, but good luck finding where, so I'll just repeat it briefly here: no mutexes, few to no memory allocations, needs to be able to effectively be done executing in under 1 ms per invocation of the callback.  I could see Synthizer offering a number of primitives to make it possible eventually, but you'll never get that working well in anything higher level than C/C++/Rust and a stop-the-world GC is basically a nonstarter.
