Re: How do you guys dispense water?

@18Nope... I'm guessing your family does this thing that makes my blood boil in about 5 seconds:They'll fill the kettle all the way to the brim... Then boil it for the 5 minutes it takes, costing shite loads in electricity, which isn't too great for the environment, especially when everyone's doing it (especially the Irish). Then, after reminding the world at large that "a watched kettle never boils", they'll poor 1 or 2 cups of tea, then leave the other 15 litres of water to go cold, before repeating the process. This annoys me so much because I know I do it myself. The water boiler dispenses with all such silliness. And ours has 2 spouts, so you can make 2 cups of tea at a time; leave the machine doing its thing while you bugger off and do something useful. The only thing more annoying than the above scenario is one I've only encountered once: A lady I was on shift with the other week went into the kitchen at the start of our shift and left the kettle to boil, then went on with her work. When I asked her if she wanted me to make her drink, as she'd clearly forgotten or something, she declined. When I reminded her she'd just boiled the kettle, she replied "Yes, it's a habit. Then it'll be ready for when I need it. That's what I've always done." She didn't need it for another 2 hours.Such a profligate waste of energy should be punishable by 6 months chained up in a room with the most boring and talkative train spotter in the world.BTW, I just timed our water boiler: It took 01:35. That was from me pressing the button, to my cup being ready to take off the machine. Gotta love Morphy Richards.

There's Gladiator. Road to the colosseum, which is a hosted CoG game. Sadly there's not much variation when it comes to its ending. There used to be this gladiator manager on IOS, which was pretty interesting since it did go into a good amount of detail with stat training, buying equipment etc. But I think that one's gone for good.

Re: Misty World: an upcoming MMORPG for PC

you must first complete novice tutorial, and quest will be available in the first village. Actually there is no way to copy dialogues from tutorial, but I know from nuno, that it will be available in the public verfion soon. I think that navigation system should be improved abit, because I have problem with knowing how close I am from enemy, and when I can target him. Also there should be a map view like in shadow rine or return of the king, where I can watch the map. Also nice think which I want to  see are markers. For example in map view I have found a forge, and when I have marked this I can easilly navigate to this. This feature is in a heros call and in mistic world it should make navigation much easier. I really like this game and I see that a developer is open to suggestions. I can not wait when another server will be opened for us, it will be really amazing. I see that this game is similar to world of warcraft. I am enjoying this title.

@LemLooking at the changelog I see that you have damage for on hand armor as an option.  I wonder if you could make it so that any armor type could do damage with the right flag, including damage only when an enemy hits it, or even passive damage or effects on all enemies, which would also be useful for weapons. For instance a glowing holy shield that causes damage to any enemies with an unholy flag, or a spiked breastplate which damages anyone hitting it with bear hands, or a flaming sword that burns the eyes of anyone looking at the blade, or a ring that makes it so that anyone using a close range attack becomes poisoned.I realize that some of this might not be worth the time, but hopefully a couple of those things are.

Nor can I. Seriously, if even the proof of concept could be that impressive I can only imagine what the final product will be able to do if one is creative. It's as I and others have said before. The alpha may have been a bit cludgy in some areas but what it could do it did extremely well. And with these new party additions it makes it possible for me to make a few of the NPC's in my project into full party members, the fully party size being eight or nine, though only four would be participating in battle at any given time. But it means me Leprechaun character could actually fight enemies or steal from them. LOL. I also like the changes made to music, where the track wouldn't fade out if you entered a building if the music wasn't actually set to change for that area. It always did seem a bit odd to me, having the town theme fade out and restart when I entered the tavern, since the music didn't actually change.

Re: Multi Linguists of the Forum...

Oh it's worse than Latin! Greek, French, Hebrew, German, Irish, we've stolen a lot of stuff, or borrowed it, if you like. And borrowing's only the half of it. Some of our grammar rules were imposed because British dudes of earlier centuries thought Latin was the awesome language of learning and English was vulgar and disgusting, and should work more like Latin. That's where the rule about not splitting infinitives comes from. English splits infinitives all the time and has done so for ages. But you couldn't split infinitives in Latin, so you can't in English, according to old Brit grammarians. A split infinitive, in case you don't know, is where you stick something between to and the verb. The most famous example is "to boldly go where no one has gone before" from Star Trek. According to these fussy old Brit grammar dudes, it should be "to go boldly", which just sounds weird. But wait, it gets even better! Some of our spelling is weird because it preserves older features of the language, knight is a great example. Originally, as I've mentioned, the 'c' would be pronounced, hard so like a 'k', but the 'h' represents the 'ch' as in German or in Scottish loch. Eventually we changed the pronunciation, but kept the spelling, more or less, for historical reasons. But let's look at words like debt and doubt. What is 'b' doing in those words? Nothing, because it originally didn't exist. Debt and doubt were sensibly spelled exactly the way they sound, det and dout. Those same fussy Brit grammar dudes decided that we needed to stick a 'b' in there to remind us that these words came from Latin, debitum and dubitare respectively. In dubitare you can see that Latin infinitives have verbal endings like German or Spanish, so you can't split them, there's nothing to split. But you want to know my absolute favorite example of Latin is the fancy language of learning, and English is vulgar and disgusting? Take the words supervisor and overseer. Supervisor is Latin, and overseer is English, a perfectly Germanic word. They literally mean the exact same thing and even work exactly the same way, super = over and visor = seer. Now let's say you're on a job and have somebody above you. If you have a supervisor, you're working in some random office job or what have you, pick whatever you like. If you have an overseer? Your either in the Bible as a slave or a dystopian science fiction story, probably also as a slave. maybe that's different for British English or English somewhere else, but in America, that's pretty much the case. Nobody that I know of uses overseer in an employment context. It's always supervisor.Oh yeah, Re:  the EgyptiansI'm pretty sure Sumerian writing came first historically as well, but it's close enough that the question's stil l very much up in the air. I feel bad for the Sumerians though. They always seem to get ignored. Try and find a decent documentary on them for example. It's too bad too, they have some cool myths and stuff, and the story of the discovery and decipherment of cuneiform is as interesting as anything about hieroglyphics. This is older, but see the introduction.https://www.sacred-texts.com/ane/sum/index.htmFor fuller and more modern versions of the myths, as well as other Sumerian literature, see:https://etcsl.orinst.ox.ac.uk/

Re: What's Your Favorite Kind of Tea

In South Africa the most common tea is rooibos tea, which is what I drink most often. I also like what we call chai tea but I think is actually called masala chai. There is this chinese thing called bubble tea which is really nice but I haven't been able to find a good one locally unfortunately.

Re: Why Are You All Moving to Telegram and Signal From WhatsApp?

Has anyone ever got hacked and had sensitive info fallen into the wrong hands because of what whatsapp has on them? I'm sure a significant portion of the world population uses whatsapp, not sure about the number but I can probably count the people I've met without it on the fingers of one hand. So with those kinds of numbers if there was even a small risk it surely must have happened a number of times. As far as I understand whatsapp uses the same protocol as signal for encryption which is apparently open source, and messages can't be read by whatsapp themselves. So really don't get the shift to telegram since they actually don't have this turned on by default, meaning your messages are less secure.

Re: How do you guys dispense water?

5 minutes, even 3 minutes is a rather slow kettle by my standards as well. Haven't actually timed ours but I have a rough idea of how long it feels to heat something in the microwave for 3 minutes and I'm pretty sure most kettles don't take that long. Kettles are pretty ubiquitous here as well, we use them not only for tea/coffee but also for boiling water before putting it in a pot for cooking.

Re: Multi Linguists of the Forum...

As far as I know people think Egyptians got the idea of writing from the Sumerians, but the system of writing was then created independently, so I suppose whether it's an independent invention depends on if you're talking about the writing system or the concept of writing itself. The other centre of writing invention besides China was the mesoamerica region by some culture before the Maya (might have been the Olmec but not sure if it predates them). I don't think the Inca or any other culture in that region had writing.Regarding english, I don't think anyone is arguing that it wasn't originally a purely germanic language, but I've heard that modern english has such a major latin influence that it could be argued that it's actually a mixed language at this point. I don't know much about linguistics though so have no idea if this claim is accurate or not.As far as the original topic goes, it's been said before but the african languages around here have all adopted the latin alphabet and use the same capitalisation rules as english. Star fire mentioned Sesotho which is one of our languages.

You might like Skulduggery Pleasant. I personally think it blows Harry Potter and Percy Jackson out of the water! It's about a living skeleton who teams up with a 12-year old girl called Stephanie Edgley. They're mainly trying to keep evil sorcerers and gods from destroying the world. I recommend checking out the first 3 books just to see how you like it. It combines humor, mystery, and fantasy very nicely, and the books get better as you progress. The first 9 books are awesome! The newer books are okay as long as you ignore the political correctness bullshit Derek Landy shoehorns. The Young Wizards series by Diane Duane isn't bad either. I've gone through the first 9 books and am trying to decide if I want to read 10. I like the concept of combining magic with the science of the universe, but they get harder and harder to read starting with book 6 as has been said.

Darin,Yeah, a similar process for selection as used elsewhere would definitely help, though I appreciate your explanation. While the screen reader isn't generally able to parse multiple columns in a super pleasant way, it at least helps me understand that the info is presented that way, and begin to make sense of things. I still haven't gotten Speakup going; my daily production machine is actually a mac with VOiceOver/TDSR, but fortunately the Arcane Fortune experience is reasonably good with that platform as well.I'm going to keep playing and see what happens. Re: Sable - A code free tool for creating RPG's (New 1.4 change log added)

Hey, Paul:This is amazing stuff! Seriously, should game creation be even this easy? I know that's your goal, but gosh...truly staggering what you've done so far. Here's one possible use of the point of interest sound object you mention in 1.4. One thing I've often thought about asking for is to have walls make sounds, even though I know that wasn't something you had in mind for the ultimate build of this. I just like the way some audio games do that. That said, I could have a long line of points of interest that make the same sound and call that a wall. Just a thought if I'm interpreting the point of interest concept correctly. Thanks again. I am so tempted to say I need to hurry up and finish this paralegal degree program, but I know that comes first.

Re: Arcane Fortune - Windows/Linux/Mac console-played grand strategy game

No problem -- don't worry about asking too many questions, I'm happy to help.I don't have a working install of speakup at the moment because I managed to screw up some stuff on my setup a day or two ago. That's just to say that I can't check at this moment what speakup does with the current tech tree. But let me attempt to describe the way it is organized now. I have ideas about how this could be done a little better near the end of this post. Let me know what you think. The tech tree is shown as a series of boxes. In each box the first line is the name of the technology, for example "Pottery". And the second line is the amount of research points required, for example "Reqs 1240 rsrch". The color of the name of the technology (ex. "Pottery") has significance, which I describe further below. You can select a tech with the arrow keys. The selected tech will be outlined with a red box using the characters "-" and "|" drawn around the perimeter. If the tech you've selected unlocks any new units, buildings or discovers new resources, they will be shown in a separate infobox that is shown immediately to the right of the selected tech. For example, for Stoneworking, the infobox will say:"Req for:Police stationDiscovers:Stone"If there is an infobox shown for a selected tech, the text cursor will be shown at the bottom right corner of the infobox. If no infobox is shown (in the case when a tech does not unlock any new units or resources), the text cursor is shown at the bottom of the screen where the legend is. This behavior is not ideal and wasn't intentional, just something I had put off fixing at the time I was working on the screen reader mode. The color of the technology name, for example "Pottery" has significance, as mentioned above. There is a legend near the bottom of the screen describing what the colors mean. I reproduce it below. For this post, I've written out the names of the colors, in the game only the color is shown:Color indicatorsred: selected techlight blue: undiscovered techgray: discovered techorange: researchingYou can toggle by pressing enter whether or not your empire will research the tech you have selected. The color of the tech's name will then turn to orange. Press enter again and it will remove it from the schedule and it'll turn back to light blue.Overall the organization of the tree is from left to right, with the more primitive techs being on the left. The game doesn't let you switch branches in a super friendly way -- you have to back up to the parent tech. So for example if you've selected "Compass" and want to instead select "Stoneworking" which is a completely different branch you have to press the left arrow key to go back to the parent tech "Rowing", then left again to go to the parent "Woodworking". Then you can press the down arrow key and finally select "Stoneworking".As to what would make this better: I'm going to guess similar to elsewhere, putting the text cursor on the selected item and letting the infobox and other text be tabbed through like I have on the main window might be helpful. That and replacing the color with text.

Facebook will show all your comments, but will show the most recent ones first, about 10 of them, but it works nicely if you use the full site as opposed to the mobile one. And most people still have this magic mystifying thing on how we use a laptop, so it still makes for a great way to kinda interact. Still I agree what most other websites suggest, which is having someone else respond your comments for you. But thanks for all of these resources, I will check all of them out.

Re: bloodstorm returns!

So do the searching before hand and build up a collection with the resources in the dev room and on skies audio like I did? That way you only need to search when you need specific stuff.  And yes, it is slower than having giant existing libraries, but oh well, many people are now using searchable online cloud libraries for paid stuff too.And of course it's not going to be completely equal, it's free, but if it gets you 80% of the way their and you don't have the cash to blow on sounds, but you want to stay above board for legal or moral reasons than it's still 10 times better than it was 15 years ago.I'm not sure if you're arguing just to argue, whether you think I'm feeding people BS to push my point (that's my guess based on previous experience), or that you just don't mind if everyone pirates and keeps using the same libraries, but I'm trying to do a good thing here by making our games more legit and unique sounding, and people are already lazy enough as it is, so please stop giving them more excuses to be shitty.  This is like the third time we've had this argument now LOL.If it doesn't work for you, that's okay, but I've seen it work for others and I've done it my self.  Given the right process and experience level, it's fine for the majority of projects and doesn't slow down development in any major way.Either way, this is the only safe and honest way to do things if you don't have money to spare, so whether or not it's efficient is irrelevant.I mean if you want to compare and contrast privately, I'm happy to do it, but that's really an academic discussion that IMO doesn't belong here when we're talking about just trying to get people on board in the first place.  I'm not trying to spread misinformation, but I do want people to try it and make up their own minds about whether it's worth the extra work or not, and disproving common misconceptions is an important part of that.

Given the right process and experience level, it's fine for the majority of projects and doesn't slow down development in any major way.Either way, this is the only safe and honest way to do things if you don't have money to spare, so whether or not it's efficient is irrelevant. If you want to compare and contrast privately, I'm happy to do it, but that's really an academic discussion that IMO doesn't belong here when we're talking about just trying to get people on board in the first place.

Re: What to read after reading Harry Potter and Percy Jackson?

Well, reading books beyond one's age can be benefitial. I remember reading the garden of paradise by anderson at 7, though it most definately isn't an adult faerie tale, it was at least age 11-12 reading. It is true though   Stormlight is totally different from mistborn. It is rather higher level reading than his other books I think. But if you are looking for young adult fiction, Brandon Mull is a good pick. His series are good.

Re: Multi Linguists of the Forum...

The problem with claiming that the Latin alphabet was influenced by Egyptian hieroglyphics is that it's pretty speculative. What we know is that Semitic peoples, probably Canaanite, were influenced by the concept of writing from the Egyptians, and started making their own signs for their own purposes. It's possible that some of those signs were influenced by, or even originated from, hieroglyphics. The problem is that, so far as I know, we just don't have enough evidence to settle things one way or the other. We know that a proto-Sinaitic script was devised by Semitic people in Egypt or under Egyptian control. We know that said proto-Sinaitic script eventually evolved into an alphabet, the Phoenician alphabet to be exact. We know that the Phoenicians spread it all over the place. We know that different regions of Semitic speakers had differently ordered alphabets, though I think Ugaritic actually preserved both orders. We know that the Phoenician alphabet gave rise to most, if not all, other alphabets in the world, please note that's alphabets and not writing systems. Writing was invented independently at least three different times, by the Sumerians, the Egyptians, (though I've heard there's evidence that Sumerian cuneiform influenced Egyptian but I haven't read up on it enough to say one way or the other), and in China. I'm pretty sure it was also invented in the Americas, e.g. there are Mayan or Incan hieroglyphs, but I have a hard time keeping all of those cultures straight in my head. But anyway, unless somebody knows something I don't, there's just not enough evidence one way or the other to definitely say whether or not the proto-Sinaitic script that eventually became the various Semitic alphabets was based on/influenced by hieroglyphics, aside from the general concept of using signs to record language.

I would suggest Alcatraz and the evil librarians.  It's a good way to get into the vibrant worlds and characters of Brandon Sanderson without diving into something like the Stormlight archive, and it follows the same young male magic user trope of the Harry Potter and Percy Jackson series. It's a bit sad at times, but also quite funny.  It's a young adult book probably aimed at mature 14-year-olds approximately, but I read it at 23 and still enjoyed it.

Both, I want to be able to switch between them if I'm using a mouse.  If I'm not, the arrows feel more natural to me after having played audio games for so long, but if a game only uses WASD it isn't a huge deal.A disadvantage of the arrow keys is also that you usually need to use modifiers for either side stepping or turning along with the arrows, which I find to not be as fast.

Re: What to read after reading Harry Potter and Percy Jackson?

I dont know how old op is, but I think stormlight would be appropriate if he was like  above 13-14. There isn't inappropriate content like too many sex scenes or  such. The series does start slow due to worldbuilding, but it  gets very epic beyond a certain point.  Especially in the latar half of book1, and the other books, it has many epic scenes, as well as battles.  But the happiest scenes I think are scenes  where a main character discovers something about themselves or the world,  or  reaches acceptance of some aspect of themselves.I did read mistborn, though first era so far, it seemed alot more shallow in character development  and more mediocre compared to stormlight, though that probably was because it was written before the stormlight books.

I gave up on Stormlight.  It's good, in the technical sense, but you'll spend forever waiting on the payoff and I'm pretty sure OP is probably young enough that they're not ready for it.  Nothing wrong with being young or anything like that, but stormlight is very grimdark in the "this is an on-screen slave branding" way, and there's very little happiness to be found in it.  For someone who is at Percy Jackson and harry Potter, it's probably a bit like killing a puppy for like 30 words a book.

Re: Your Eclipse Experiences

2021-01-25 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Developers room : TJ . Breitenfeldt via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Your Eclipse Experiences

Hi, I am a software engineer at JPMorgan Chase, and use Eclipse more or less every day. I personally like eclipse, although there is definitely a learning curve. I find that using Eclipse with NVDA using the NVDA eclipse add on works the best. The add on is here:https://github.com/albzan/eclipse-nvdaRemember to configure your eclipse with the correct settings as mentioned in the readme for the add on. I suppose it lags, although no more than any other IDE I would say. Perhaps less than Visual Studio. It is the price you pay for the tools. VS Code is the exception though, providing a lot of accessibility and great tooling, although in my experience that is not normally the case. I still prefer using Eclipse with java though. I personally like java, although clearly there are those who disagree.I have listed out some useful shortcuts for Eclipse to make it a little easier to get going with it.Note, Eclipse uses a workspace, so you have to import or create your projects in the workspace. This just means that to see the project you want to work on, it must be recognised by Eclipse. Eclipse has Perspectives, and Views. Perspectives are determined by the programming language or framework you are using, usually this is not something you have to deal with, the perspective is set for you based on the type of project. Views are things like project explorer, console, unit testing, errors, etc...In the project explorer, you might be a little confused at first. the treeview first layer is all of your projects in the workspace. Once you expand a project, you will see something different based on the type of project, although generally speaking, you should have src, perhaps followed by a couple of folders. If this is a maven project for something like a spring boot project like what I work with, it would be src.main.javaThis is where your source code is located. Eclipse has a strange way of handling packages which has grown on me, but takes some time to get used to. Rather than each entry in the tree view being a folder in which you can expand, Eclipse tries to simplify it a bit because java packaging can get a little crazy. So instead eclipse shows each entry in the tree view as a collection of folders write up to the folder that has your source code. So for example, the crazy standard in java is to setup your packaging structure something like:com.timothybreitenfeldt.lms.admin-serviceThat is four different folders, and there is nothing in any of those folders until you drill down into admin-service. So eclipse just combines all of that for you so that you don't have to drill down into these long folder structures. Also, you will want to disable package folding, it is really anoying, and if you don't know it is happening very confusing. open eclipse, do alt w and press up arrow to go to preferences. Type folding into the search box which should have the focus right away and press enter. It should move your cursor into the treeview, and folding should be selected. Tab over until you here a checkbox called folding, and uncheck it. Then tab to apply and close.Shortcuts:* alt shift q: pull up a list of views up. p will take you to project explorer, c will take you to the console, and e will take you to errors.* f12: jumps to the editor* control shift up/down arrow: moves through class, field, and method definitions when the editor is open. NVDA will read the name of the line jaws will not.* control ./, (control period/cama): jump to the next or previous error* f2: when on a definition, it will open a window with documentation on that definition. If you have an error selected, it will tell you about the error and provide you quick fixes if there are any.* control space: manually activates code assist, normally you do not have to do this.* control plus f11: runs your code, specifically will run the code based on the last successful run, and if there is not one yet, it will guess on how you want to run your project. To run your project the first time and insure that it is running correctly, go to package explorer, do applications/right click/shift f10, and press r for run as. Expand the run as sub menue and choose how to run your program. All subsequent runs you can use control f11 and it will run it the same way.note, code assist, which is the code completion system for Eclipse is pretty accessible, and works basicly the same way as Visual Studio. You can force code assist with control space bar as mentioned above. So my work flow looks something like this:open eclipse, press alt shift q followed by p to open package explorer. open the project I am working on using the arrow keys, and navigate to the class I am working on. Press enter to open the java file in the editor. Use control shift down arrow to navigate through the code. Write some code, and save. With the NVDA add on installed, I can press control plus s, and if there are errors, it will make a sound notifying there are syntax

erm, 110 volts here also and it takes like 3 minutes for it to warm up, but like slayer I don't like it too hot, because ya know, 33C outside, but not too bad.

Re: Confusion with low-level audio libraries

Rust needs to stabilize an advanced enough form of const generics as well as specialization before I'd jump at using Rust for this.  There's also the fact that Rust can't easily express object-oriented inheritance hierarchies, which turns out to be really useful for audio libraries, believe it or not.It is possible to write safe C++ if you know what you're doing and use modern C++ features as opposed to the older stuff.  I know what I'm doing.  I think there's been less than 5 segfault/invalid pointer issues.  Running under asan and dealing with them is a lesser cost than trying to use Rust.  If I wasn't experienced at C++ or if Rust had actually followed through on stabilizing things they've been promising for years, the trade-off might be different.  Admittedly specialization and const generics are both very hard problems that are only used by niche applications, but audio is one of said niche applications so here we are.As for whether it gets rid of machine-specific weirdness? Really depends.  Segfaults, yeah, maybe, until i end up using unsafe for stuff because reasons.  Or get the memory models on atomics wrong on less forgiving platforms than X86.  Rust isn't some sort of magic silver bullet, it just guarantees a lack of data races and a lack of invalid pointers if and only if you never use unsafe, nothing more than that.

I know about Phoenician. But even Phoenician has its basis in hieroglyphs. This is an interesting video to watch about history of Latin alphabets.Anyway, regardless of where English comes from, or Latin script, admittedly, it's all very interesting and I do wish I could have studied linguistics more in depth. But I'm only a language speaker with knowledge of 7 languages. Also, the Langfocus channel on YouTube is a good one to subscribe to if you're into this stuff.

Yeah, knight is not something I would choose. I don't really like the classes from defense in any of the games, and I would definitely choose a class that has more attacking capabilities.

Re: Confusion with low-level audio libraries

@CamlornCan't remember if you've addressed this elsewhere, so feel free to tell me to JFGI, but why did you choose to write Synthizer in C++ and not Rust? I thought you were a big fan of rust these days?I seem to remember you saying something about Rust not having some of the stuff you needed, but I don't remember what specifically, and I might not understand it, even if I did.Would you ever bother converting to Rust? I know you've said in the past about machine-specific C++ weirdness. Wouldn't Rust eliminate that?

before reading the trials of Apollo, you have to read the heroes of Olympus series which is another five books.  They take place shortly after the fifth Pursey Jackson book ends.

Re: movement system in FPS games

I actually prefer the W A S D system symply because it allows for much finer control. For example, a lot of audio "fps's" aren't actually fps games. They are technically closer to third person shooters as I understand things. In a traditional shooter, W,A,S,D are used for moving and the mouse is used to aim. I would personally like to see that system but in an audiogame form of some sort. Swamp kind of accomplishes this, but not really as there is no up and down aiming to speak of. For up and down aiming it may be possible to use a radar ping off players like in rtr but change pitch as you move up and down. But this isn't a discussion of what makes a good fps so I'll leave it at that.

Re: Any gladiator games out there?

blind gladiator is fun as far as randomly button mashy games go and nice to play while my lady was in hospital this time last year. however, for something a bit more serious, I do remember enjoying This  choose your story gladiator game, which goes far more into your gladiator life, and while it doesn't exactly let you do turn based combat, you do have to think somewhat strategically and play to your strengths and alliances. When I last checked only the first game in the series was finished and the ending was a bit abrupt, but more were planned, so there might be more done now. while it's obviously not a gladiator fighting action game, it does have a nice vibe to it imho.

Re: Multi Linguists of the Forum...

Sorry Germans, that should be Kneipe shouldn't it? What we Americans call a bar and the Brits call a pub? Also, let's compare the words for day. In Old English it was dæg, the 'ae' character is like the 'a' in that and the 'g' would get pronounced like a 'y' in modern English, because it follows a vowel. In Dutch it's dag, in German Tag, in Old Norse dagr, and dags in Gothic. So you can see this word exists all across the Germanic languages.
