The docs are definitely something I encourage everyone to read first, but basically I expect everything that currently exists to work, there will be one or two more C-level API breakages that shouldn't affect Python users much, and I encourage people to use it.  Think relatively stable beta, but where new features might be buggy for a release or two after they happen.  Fortunately I have enough users that bugs get found quickly.

Well, I do do a podcast called blind vms on tech, it was virtual machines but it could be anything, it won't be coming out for a little as I am due to go on a road trip soon but maybe in may or near end of april I may try to put it out but whatever.Anyway, from those that have phones, I would like audio of why you have them,and why you are collecting them, this may evolve into a bit of an interesting descussion on phone tech in general.For myself I don't have any real old mobiles, but down stairs I have one of those vintage handle crank phones sadly no dial tone phones but I do have sfx.Anyway you can email me with files and you can discuss on here.Right now I am going through a few things so the cast won't be for a bit but I hope to put something together later on this year and this could be a good topic.In fact this could increase to old tech in general, braille devices, music boxes, type writers, I know there were some things on clocks and I need to actually record a snippit and link those files from locutus.But yeah.Of course the way mixcloud and anchor work, things will have to go in bits but the actual casts if there are multiple  things will be at the keybase page.The best way to find the cast with everything is its mirror.https://technology.jaredrimer.net/blindvms.There are other ways to but thats the landing page I got hosted by a friend of mine with the links to the verious things, keybase, anchor, mixcloud, cutt, etc.

I don't really know any shortcut keys.@3: This is the first step of the tutorial i was talking about in the first post. Unfortunately we don't know where those "ferns" are, so you have to click on every tile (0 0 to 4 4). If you have more than 10 seeds, you can start planting crops on those tiles.

@everyone having problems with chinese chars,What's the damn problem to go to translate.google.com, select english as the source text, chinese as the target one and enter whatever you want in the field, then copying it in the translation field and translating it back in to english to see if it sounds satisfying for you? I myself don't collect old phones, but my stepdad has a bunch. The oldest one we have is from the 80s. It's a Nokia and it has a pretty long antenna. Then we have a lot of phones from the 90s and the 2000s. He just  got an Iphone 4 and I got a 5S from my cousin.

Hi guys,I'm using a program that has default keyboard mappings for many of its useful actions set to shift+numpad be default, but NVDA intercepts the input resulting in nothing happening in the program (even when numlock is on). Unfortunately, hearing from other testers, it quite seems like many people miss it and finish the demo without being aware of that door. While normally i'd leave that door where it is, i have some reason bounded to level design which force me to swap it with the room change to the last room.Thanks for the feedback!

Other formats can be added to Bookworm. I imagine it is on the todo list, but it seems to not be under very active development right now. I might do it if qRead gives me a reason not to use it. Being a developer and knowing of an open-source alternative like Bookworm, I would not make the purchase of qRead today since I could just add things to Bookworm if I need them. I made the purchase years ago though, so I still use it for some stuff. YMMV

An example is hard.  But cryptography is like this.  You take a message and a key, and you put them into your cryptography function, and you get out a magic string that can be turned back into the message only if you have the key.Google rot13.  Rot13 isn't something you'd want to use for real but it's simple.  The next simplest thing is xor cyphers.  After that it's quickly into the realm of math that you don't get to unless you're a math major, and neither of the aforementioned is somehting you can use for real, you have to use the advanced ones to make it actually secure.

I even created  a complete new account to try out this weird accademy thing you all talked about. Sure, I've been through the game for awhile, but it isn't that dificult. Each room has a student in it, and the only time I had to actually die to kill them was whenever I was fighting the expert student, with 65000 health with only a knife, you just have to hold control. They dont' attack that fast until the final 2 levels, and you don't have to go through every room if you don't want to, especially with the golden potion it gives you...or maybe that was for my birthday that I just set to the same day...not sure.

I'd say that your best bet is to go into backend.  Mobile app dev is good as a hobby, but avoiding frontend as a job is generally best.  It's not that you can't, it's that you'd have to find somewhere that's got a complicated enough app that you can work on the non-UI parts full time.  Not sure if this discussion became about a job or not, but it's probably advice worth knowing anyway.You will find that people who aren't a one domain kind of person tend to make more.  The fancy word you see in job postings for it is full-stack developer.  It's worth branching out as wide as you can without sacrificing your ability to learn about things.  Part of why I got my current job is that I can intelligently talk about C/low level programming and also about web services, http, etc., and a big part of my job is putting those two things together and doing both at the same time.  Even if you don't try, though, any reasonably sized project will require acquiring a bunch of expertise from a bunch of different disciplines: the earliest skill you have to learn as a programmer is how to learn, both for the long term and in a way that's suitable for the sort of project where you only need to know everything about X for a week and then will never use X again.

I did, when I was young.  Then I realized that it doesn't give you anything in practice, other than learning, and that was around the time I got old enough that I cared more about my projects being useful.  if you're looking for resources, I know Ethin does that kind of thing.My hobby is audio programming.  But as for my expertise: I've done work on compilers.  I've done massive scale web services.  I've done administration/deployment/ops on a bunch of stuff.  Currently I'm doing C/Rust at a company that has (among other things) a custom database and debugger offering--and yes, I've done at least some work on the custom database.  There's also a personal project for custom networking stuff floating around that I never finished, and that thing I started ta was going to try to compete with bitcoin (it'd probably have worked but it'd have taken at least a year of living on rice and out of a metaphorical basement so as soon as I got a job I stopped).  Also the crypto arbitrage scripts I have somewhere.  Program for a long time, and you just sort of collect a bunch of stuff like this.

Yeah. Go to steampowered.com, grab the thing, install it. If you wish to use English, make sure that you select english even though it already appears to be selected. If you don't, you're steam will be in another language that uses glyphs. It's annoying to get set up because you need to use OCR to log in and get steam guard going but once you do it the first time, you can go into the desktop shortcut and at the end of the file, put -login   and always run steam from that shortcut.

I'd even go as far as to say that thats the programming that happens most of the time nowadays. You don't program everything from scratch anymore. Languages like Ruby, Python, Java, _javascript_ etc are popular for their vast amount of 3rd party packages out there that will make your life easier by providing functionalities that you don't have to invent yourself. If Discord didn't provide an API to write bots for it, you wouldn't even be able to do so without hacking (literally) Discord (given that they didn't create the endpoints for the API within Discord itself from the very beginning). So, as all the others already stated, what you are doing is programming, nothing more, but nothing less.

You kid, but that can be done.  Not by a blind person I don't think, but the earliest computers from the 80s were designed by one or two people and built by hand.  There are open source processor schematics, and FPGAs allow for designing chips at home for a couple thousand dollars.  Stick that sucker into a PCIE slot or a USB port and it'll happily configure itself to whatever schematic you feed it.  I believe you can even get affordable small runs of actual hardware, but haven't ever looked into it that far.But sadly all the tools are highly visual because even after you write the text-base verilog/vhdl blocks, you still have to manually lay them out and stuff.  I wasn't ever able to find a way around that.

You don't need to reinvent the wheel to drive. You don't need to reinvent sliced bread to make a sandwich. These are probably ridiculous comparisons, but coding is very much of the same category. As @7 pointed out, printing to the console is way more involved than what meets the eye, but the whole point of high-level languages like Python, Java, etc is to afford programmers the ability to create and maintain robust programs with as much ease as possible. You can certainly accomplish your programmatic goals in more primitive ways, but utilizing libraries and packages allows you achieve your goals far quicker. It may be of benefit to try and understand what's happening under the hood, but for all intents and purposes, what you're doing is most certainly considered programming.

The master password situation might be solvable via solo dice keyswhich will allow you to create a permanent cryptographic unguessable key based on a literal roll of dice. No worrying about remembering your master pw then. AS for the dice set? Well, don't lose your security key should become the norm along with don't lose your damn keys in the first place.These guys know what they're doing, especially considering the solo key itself. Open source unlike Ubikey, and excellent security, definitely on the verge of passwordless login - problem? The number of sites actually adopting fido2 is pathetically low. Even Paypal, part of the goddamn fido alliance, does not have fido2 implemented, and they only allow 20 character passwords. If they were to allow it, my password would be 60 characters at least. As such I am relegated to one 3 times less secure (a brute force for a 20 character pasword certainly is no overnight effort, but it can be far easier than a password three times its length. If my Paypal were to get hacked in any way not caused by clicking on a phishing link or anything that I specifically would have triggered, that might be a valid negligence charge 9both on cause and effect and proximate cause principal).Moral of the story? Sites need to get their ass in line nad adopt fido2. Stop trying to spare the feelings of the customers who don't want to spend $20 now to avoid many potential phishing damages down the line.

@5Let me put it this way.  Calling print in Python goes through something like a million lines of code written by someone else.  This isn't an exaggeration.  Before you even so much as use a library, just writing to the console is that much.There is a package called left-pad on NPM.  It's way less popular than it used to be, but still gets 4 million or so downnloads a week.  It's only 20 lines or so and contains one function which takes a string and a character and puts the character at the beginning of the string a specified number of times.  Installing and importing it into your project takes almost as many lines as the package's source code.  I believe it's built into JS now.  But at one point, there was a trademark dispute, the author got mad, and it got yanked and the the internet broke and NPM had to change their policies to forbid deleting packages anymore.SO, don't feel bad about it.  Unless you write a 11 line package with millions of downloads a week and then yank it out from under people because you're angry.  If you do that, feel very very bad.

Yes, the problem is that you and everyone else doing Python engines are using a newbie game architecture, which must also be unopinionated, and which mixes I/O with game logic.  That's not the end of the world but it does come with the expectation that the user is going to have to be aware of and willing to handle explicit resource management.  The only automated thing in Python (or any other GC language) are gc finalizers, which may be called up to seconds or minutes in the future, assuming every level of everything (including the parts that aren't your library) handles the references perfectly.  But even without that problem, mixing I/O and logic is generally a nightmare save for very specific application types.One way you can handle this is to have a hierarchy of resources.  If an object wants a sound, it does self.create_sound, if a level wants a sound, it does level.create_sound, and so on up the hierarchy.  Then, when an object is destroyed, it kills anything at it's level or below in the hierarchy.  This gets rid of a lot of the explicit thought, but at the cost of probably needing to wrap the lower level sound library in a helper class so that destroying it can remove it from the various registries if it dies off before the entity.  You also have to make sure that the engine always knows about the lifetime.  And of course users are still aware of it, as it's just moved the whole thing to a more convenient place.A more advanced architecture that I did was a React-inspired declarative system where objects would say "I would like to be playing x.wav now" or sending events out "please play y for me once at this position".  It worked well, but it was also the project in which I learned why WebAudio sucked enough to justify Synthizer, which is why no one but me has ever seen it.  It's also somewhat limited in the sense that all the different kinds of sounds have to be handled by the reconciliation engine.  But it does handle "this object disappeared" very nicely, caching, etc. etc. etc.  It would have even handled networking super super well, beyond anything that we have currently to my knowledge.  Could have done a lot more, and I intend to use the general idea again, just not as a JS/Electron component.  I'll see about open sourcing it later, though a lot of that engine was about doing things right instead of fast so I doubt anyone can continue the overall project.  It'd have been impressive though, if WebAudio had been less sucky.  But it ended at "I know, I'll write custom WebAudio stuff in C, convert it to WebAssembly, run it in a web worker and..." just to get a good HRTF and stable footsteps going on and that's when I was just like how about no, if I'm going to write a sound library I might as well do it right rather than spend the same amount of time writing a dead end for one project.

Battle of Armageddon also allows latin characters. So do Dreamlands and LYXL. And ROTK definitely does.  Might have been a game that I just haven't played.

I'm however trying to lift as much trouble from the shoulders of the users in pyAGE as possible, especially with sounds. I'm currently caching sound buffers internally, but sounds are created rather frequently by the user. Since those (generators and sources in synthizer) need to be destroyed manually at some point too, and I want to prevent the users to bother with such nitpicky details if possible, i'm still trying to figure out a way to do this within the engine, so i'm trying to figure out when a sound is no longer needed by the user. Imagine a scene like within a FPS, and the user switches weapons again and again, new sounds are created rather frequently for all kinds of stuff, like footsteps and so on. The user could introduce their own cache management for sure, but i'm trying to achieve something like that behind the scenes already providing a sound player which basically handles 3d/panned positioning per scene, but caching sounds too. It's just not trivial to "guess" when a sound is no longer needed and can safely be destroyed.__del__ would have been a nice solution here, since the object would basically clean itself up at some point (or at least its external resources).

First you need to talk to an instructor, or whatever npc you have next. Press v until you are told that you have selected npc, then press k, l, or;, you will hear which npc is nearby and at what distance. He will be 1 step away from you, then press enter and listen to what they tell you.
