Yeah, I get really mad when I hear people brazenly talk about cracking commercial software, especially when that software really isn't all that expensive. I understand that money can be an issue regardless of where you're from but that's no excuse to crack a program into which a lot of work has quite obviously gone. If I have to when Sable is released I'll save up for a few months to buy a copy.

Because those abilities aren't that common in RPG's. True sometimes you'll have situations where the character will automatically leap gaps but generally you don't find the ability to jump at will in a lot of turn-based RPG's. There may be more, but the only two I've personally seen it in are Final Fantasy Legend III on the original Game Boy and Final Fantasy Mystic Quest on the Super Nintendo. Then again both games were developed by the same development team so it's not surprising that there would be similarities.

I didn't think you could have cutscenes with text. I've wanted to do that, have a little seen where the main character explains a bit about who he is and what he's doing before you take control of him. I just wasn't aware you could do that since the intro menu seems to only feature options for sound files.

Coolness. As I said one of the characters in the book idea I've been playing with would actually be considered something like a hunter or ranger, skilled with a bow and that sort of thing. Then another character would be considered a thief, able to steal items from enemies and things. He's actually a Leprechaun LOL. But incorporating him might be contingent on whether or not the engine allows for having more than four playable characters. As I said though, you could have a place in a town, an inn for instance, where the inactive characters would hang out and then you could swap them in and out as you wanted. Some games even offer a vehicle that can serve the same purpose, so the inactive party members would still be traveling with you, they just wouldn't be used in combat unless they were brought into the active party. That could be hard to implement I imagine. As you can guess I've put a lot of thought into this story idea LOL.

There are a couple things I'd like to see added at some point. First off is the ability to create cursed items, mainly armor and weapons. So you might have a ring that has really good defense against a lot of element types but has the drawback of turning the wearer undead. THat would render them weak to both fire and healing abilities, so you'd have to plan accordingly. Then you might have a weapon, say a Demon Axe, that has really good attack power but the player receives a percentage of the damage inflicted with every hit. Those are just a few examples of how a cursed item might work.  The other thing it would be cool to see is one you see in a lot of Final Fantasy games. Most people simply refer to it as the "Monster in a Box." It's a treasure chest that does indeed contain treasure, but in order to actually win the treasure you'll have to fight a monster or group of monsters. Sometimes these could be actual boss type monsters, though at other times it's just as likely to be an ordinary monster. Sometimes it's a you can already encounter in the same area as the treasure chest, while other times it could be a monster you might not encounter randomly until later in the game.

No no, I wasn't making a suggestion but an observation. I was giving you an example of what I was talking about. My warrior's name is Nerik. Normally you'd get the spell sound and it would then say Nerik's poison faded or whatever the message was. As it is now it starts the message by saying the character's name, in this case Nerik, then plays the dispel sound, then says poison faded. It just struck me as a bit odd how it does that.

I have noticed a few quirks with using status effects to cure status effects LOL. I'd created one to cure poison and used it as part of the second spell my Cleric learned. First, when you use it, at least in battle, the speech says the character's name, then the dispel sound plays, and only then the speech says poison faded. THat just strikes me as a little weird. So it'd be "Nerik's," then the dispel sound, then "poison faded." It just struck me as a little odd. The other quirk is that after the battle ends or after a round it says that cure poison has faded. Again, it just strikes me as a bit funky. LOL. At least it doesn't reapply the poison. That would be bad.

I should also elaborate on an issue I reported a day or two ago, where setting the player to start with a little gold doesn't appear to work. It works in creator mode, strangely enough, but not in play game mode. I also begin to suspect that removing status ailments may also be bugged. I've been doing like Paul suggested, where I created a status effect for removing poison and then assigned it to an item, in this case called a Purity Herb, with a hit percentage of 100%. Well while testing out my game demo one of the monsters I created pisoned my warrior and the Purity Herb didn't work.

Well, have another issue to report. It seems that the option to start the party with some gold is broken. I click on it and tell it how much I'd like the player to start with and save the map, but when I load the game the player starts with no gold.

Interestingly enough, I tried creating a new test project and gave two of my characters longswords and it worked just fine. So I'm not sure what the issue could be in the main project. I may try deleting and recreating the weapon in that project and see what happens.

As for the event trigger for a character's theme, that could definitely work, always assuming we'll be able to assign another event trigger to them later for them to join the party since that's what I'd be aiming for in this case.

I suppose that could work. The white cane would after all have been reforged with the other piece of the staff so in theory it wouldn't be there anymore. I definitely agree about scrolling text. That could work for simple dialogue between characters in situations where you don't have or even don't necessarily need or want voice acting. That would make it possible for things like text cutscenes. But I'll try and Email you the project folder as soon as I can.

I've been trying to work that out myself, since at a point fairly early on in the story Luke, my main character, takes a magical gateway from a somewhat fictionalized version of Earth to another world where the vast majority of the story takes place. The other potential problem is that he starts with his ultimate weapon already in his possession, though he only has one half of it. I'm guessing you won't be able to upgrade an existing weapon mid to late game. His staff starts out in the guise of an innocuous white cane, though it does have some of its power still, and it has to be made whole towards the end of what would have been the first novel of a potential trilogy. I can see where that could be a problem in a tool like Sable.

Well, I can report that resetting the longsword's stat modifier didn't fix the problem. I did find that the other issue, where I got the success message after reloading a save after death, didn't reoccur after I exited the game. Granted this was after I'd reloaded immediately after death and then exited. I'll see what happens if I exit immediately when it prompts me after death and then reload.

Generally in RPG's a character's theme song plays during significant parts of the story that involve said character, such as when you first encounter them, regardless of whether or not they join your party at that same time, or perhaps during a story sequence where you learn some important detail about them. It's also not altogether unheard of to sometimes have a more melancholy version of the character's theme that would play if they happen to die at some point during the story itself. As I said, Samantha, my female lead, is a woman with a troubled past and so the slightly sorrowful piano theme would fit her. As for the save thing, thinking back I remember that it happened in the initial build as well. I unfortunately don't have that same save file but if I can manage to duplicate it I'll try. But the idea of having the music change when you go from one level of a map to another would make sense, particularly if you had a lengthy dungeon such as a castle or tower with more than, say one or two levels. A lot of final dungeons or optional bonus dungeons tend to be fairly lengthy, so it would make sense to switch up the music a little from time to time.

Sorry for double posting but I also have to report that that bug I mentioned also happened with my Cleric. Thankfully the nonphysical key for her quest works now. But I had her set to be equipped with the Acolyte's Robe I'd made for her and she had no equipment. I should also point out that when I figured out a workaround for the Warrior, simply adding his shirt, sword and shield to the party's inventory right at the start, I encountered an issue the first time he tried to attack in battle. It said error, stat type not found.

I have a bug report and a question, and they may well both be bugs. First thing's first, the known bug. I just tested my game and got the quest from my hero's friend to find her daughter. In order to rescue her you have to venture into the woods north of town, where you find her trapped in a den with a group of wolves. Well I got massacred by said wolves, then reloaded the save. Now the save was before I even made it to the wolf den, yet the moment the game loaded I got the success message I'd set to be spoken. That obviously can't be right. The other issue is that I'd set the warrior who joins the main hero to start with the chainmail shirt, longsword and steel shield I'd created for him, yet when he joined he started with no equipment. The hero, who I set as a Mage, does start with the equipment that I made for him.

Here's a curiosity question, is it or could it be possible to set a specific musical track to be the theme of a particular character? I got to thinking about that because one of the soundtrack songs you provide really seems like it could be the character theme for my game's female lead. She plays piano and that track is a piano track. More than that it has kind of a sorrowful feel and this particular character has a difficult past. But I definitely look forward both to the new video and the update. Your videos are definitely interesting and informative.

Good to know, because both the quest about the rats and finding my Cleric's daughter before she joins the party involve battles before you obtain the completion key. I'm curious how you can set a quest up to have you talk to somebody to obtain the completion key or at least move on with part of the task. There doesn't seem to be an option for that in the trigger menus.

Perhaps these are bugs? I can complete quests that have physical completion keys just fine. It's just the nonphysical ones that seem problematic. I also wish they hadn't removed the chest option from the object creator since it was there in the video tutorials LOL.

Ok, so what's the deal with nonphysical key items for quests? How are you supposed to get the quest rewards? I have two nonphysical keys for quests, well three actually, but I can't complete the quests and get the rewards because when I complete the objective and talk to the NPC who gave it to me, they still speak the dialogue they have for when you interact with them before the quest is completed and the quest is still listed as active. The other question I have is whether or not it's possible to put gold into containers or have the player start with a little god to begin with.

Actually, just great a trigger object, no need to create a person. You can name said trigger object bed and set it to restore the party, with or without a gold cost. I'm still trying to figure out how to actually complete quests with nonphysical keys, particularly since one of the two I've created will result in one of the NPC's of the town becoming the second member of my party. But even after killing the groups of enemies that drop the nonphysical completion keys, I don't get the completion events I set up.

I do have a quest issue. I'd set up the event triggers for the rat quest as well as for finding the main character's friend's daughter as well as set the nonphysical keys for those quests. Unfortunately even after killing the two enemies who have said keys there seems no way to actually complete those quests, even though both the NPC's who assign those quests have actions and dialogue set for the return. So I'm not sure where I went wrong. Aside from that I do seem to be getting a hang of things, including creating a workable inn LOL. I indeed figured out how to set a gold cost, fairly small for the first town, for using it.

Thanks Paul, that does make sense. Unfortunately the innkeeper already has an event trigger associated with a quest. Hopefully that's something that can be adjusted in the final product. Still I suppose I could just create a bed on the second floor and, as you said, attach an event trigger to it. Of course that does seem to mean that all inns would have to be free, which isn't originally what I had in mind but it's not a big loss. As for having quests with voice acting I'm sure you could since if I'm not mistaken it asks if you want to use a voice set when you create the task. I guess I'll have to start building up music and sound libraries, although I do still have that pack of songs Quinton released a while back, some of which do seem to fit into my game fairly well. One last question, if you have, say a boss battle that's part of a quest, can you assign unique music to it? I have a few different battle themes I'd like to use.

Ok, I'll give that a try. The other question is whether or not it's possible to have a limited number of enemies appear in a given area. Rather than limit the pests to the inn, I thought I could have them appear throughout the town, but just in a limited number so the quest could actually be completed. I'm also still trying to figure out the quest line I mentioned earlier with the main character's best friend going missing and him having to locate her. Again though I reworked this quest idea so that you're actually looking for the best friend's small child, who's gone missing in the woods north of town, completion of which, again, would have the best friend join the party. Also, before I forget, I know how to create a poison status effect, but I'm not sure how I'd create an item to cure it or any status effect for that matter. Oh I could name the item but there doesn't seem to be any obvious way of having it remove, say poison or paralysis.

We don't even know yet how much it's going to cost. But it's quite interesting to see a game creation tool written using another game creation tool. And as Liam points out in his own demo, while other game makers in the past haven't panned out (I'm looking at you Audio Game Maker - cough cough), I really see a lot of potential in this one. I hope the final product will allow for a bit more customization, such as adding your own races and classes. The idea that I mentioned earlier, where I turn the fantasy novel idea I've been playing with for the past seven years into an RPG, features an Elf, Dwarf and Leprechaun as some of its principle characters in addition to the two blind leads from Earth LOL. I also think it'd be cool to be able to have more than four characters in your party. Now by that I don't mean your active party, that could still be limited to four or maybe five, but you could have a cast of, let's say eight playable characters, but you could only have a maximum of four in your party at any given time, so you'd swap them in and out as any given situation might require. Perhaps I'm reaching a bit high here but this was sort of what I had in mind when I first had the notion of doing this.

I just found what I suspect may be a bug. I went into play game to test things and discovered that there doesn't appear to be a way to close the equipment menu. I was able to enter it and equip the armor and weapon I placed in the main character's bedroom, but then I couldn't exit the menu. Pressing escape didn't work.

Well, I managed to get the missing wallet quest to work. So now I'm curious about another quest idea. I thought I'd have the innkeeper offer a quest where the second floor of the inn has become infested with rats So I'm not sure how exactly I'd make that work to where the rats would only appear in one specific location, that being the second floor of the inn.

I still haven't quite got the stair thing sorted out. As I said I was in the main character's house or the inn, either of which I planned on having second stories. But when I went to the spot where I wanted to place the stairs, I'd go to create door/transition, then name it Stairs. It asked for description and I left it blank. But then instead of being able to hit U to have it go to the second story of the building which is what I wanted, it wanted the map which would put me outside the inn or the character's house. So my character climbed up through a hole in the roof LOL. As for the quest, it was sort of a beginner level quest where the daughter would be found in the town but I might have to talk to, say the shopkeeper, who might then direct me to the inn where the daughter was having a few drinks. So then you'd have to go to the inn where the daughter would appear after meeting these conditions. I was also trying to figure out how to set the additional characters' classes since as the game opens you'd only have the main character Luke, who'd be my Mage. But Samantha, the daughter you had to locate, would be a cleric. I suppose I'd just have to wait till after Samantha joined the party.

That's the point though. I select Door/Transition and it asks for a name and then a description which I know the latter can be left blank. But then it asks for the map that it links to and brings up the map menu. So no, I can't just move to the second floor.

I've had a lot of fun with it so far. Unfortunately I can't seem to create a building with multiple floors. I was thinking that the main character's house would have two floors, but the documentation isn't exactly clear on that. I go to where I want to create the stairs, then create door/transition. It asks what map the transition is to lead to. o I just hit U? I also have an idea for a quest where one of the NPC's wants me to find her daughter, who incidentally is one of the party members you'd eventually recruit. I'm not sure how I'd go about doing that though. I assume it'd be a nonphysical key item but I'm not sure how exactly I'd go about doing it.

May have to give this one a try. I've been working on a fantasy novel for the past six or seven years and I thought it might be cool to convert it to an RPG. This might be a good way to do that, particularly once the full version comes out. The main character would start out on Earth and at some point in the plot be transported to another world where the majority of his quest would take place. Hopefully vehicles and things could be added, since a lot of RPG's tend to give the player access to ships and things.

I got an Email when each episode was ready for testing. Then I had to enable an alternate version of the Starfinder skill. To answer Cyco's questions episodes 1 and 2 are estimated at an hour. Starfinder is awesome. One thing it has over Cursed Painting is the fact that it features actual voice acting rather than relying solely on synthe speech, even though that icy synthe female voice does fit Cursed Painting's atmosphere. I obviously can't give away details but I beta tested Episode 1 and plan to beta test episode 2 this weekend. I will say that so far it's very interesting.

You don't really get a license like you would with other games. You get a download link for a zip folder. In order to register the game you need an account on blindgamers.com, I think that's the address. Then you boot up the game and select either log in or register, I forget specifically what. Then you enter the email address and password and it will unlock the game.

If you've got it enabled then you shouldn't have any issues, although yes, voiceover can sometimes interfere. Fortunately just turning the speech off before you actually ask Alexa should eliminate that.

I hope I'll be able to play the full version on my phone. While I would have absolutely no objection to getting an Echo Dot at some point (I've always thought they sounded kind of cool), that may have to wait a few months. But if I can play the full version on my phone we should be fine. Immersive is definitely an accurate descriptor even without stereo sound. The music and sound effects seem very well done. Just remember to either disable VoiceOver or at the very least turn speech off while playing! LOL.
