Re: Ever wanted to be random evil guy? Now you can!

I've noticed a trend lately: every new developer who comes out with a new, simple project that even they admit is a time-waster gets shot down. The days of letting people try things and encouragement are gone, sadly. When I first started making games, my first one was a small trivia game with maybe five questions. Then I graduated to a choose your own adventure game. Fast forward several years and I released the first ever accessible combat flight simulator.Do you know why this happened? Because I never got discouraged. Everyone around me (some of whom were big-time programmers) were always encouraging me and giving me techniques to be a better programmer and think more creatively.Nowadays with the newer generations, all we're seeing is us shitting on each other, constantly, and it saddens me to see this. You guys have lost the ability to carry each other forward like we used to do. Your tick-tacks and Facebooks and Instagrams have completely spoiled you because you're under the impression that creating things is so easy. After all, if everyone and their mom has "AI" built into their software, it can't be so hard to code AI, can it?You must start encouraging the budding developers of your community or you'll get no good ones. We were all 12 and 13 when we started developing; we were just as young as you and our games were just as basic.

Oh I see. Thanks. Well that's a pity. I'd rather not run this thing even if it is a false positive because the attitude seems to be "oh it's BGT, it'll flag it, just ignore it." What if it's real?I think OP should check it themselves to be sure. I really do want to play this, the title made me laugh.

@52: I never knew until now that Oh Shit was based off of Crazy Party. Oh Shit is one of the few games I downloaded and play to this day and a lot of that has to do with the instructions. And, I've never played Crazy Party and am still rather successful at Oh Shit. You're correct that in your game you've hidden away a lot of things, but your instructions don't spoil things at all. Maybe you and OP can team up and you can give some guidance there? Because you did it correctly.

Yes, the game uses concepts from CP, I don't deny that, but I believe that the game does that in at least an interesting fashion.Have you actually played the game, truly played it? No, I don't believe so, because you had to have somebody else state some things the game does, and even then some were left out and others wereSo people are saying the game is not too enjoyable, hard to figure out (I guess it doesn't have clear instructions?) and seems to be a spin-off of other already-existing titles. Your response is "Wrong!" And this message is delivered in such a manner as to discourage others from truly voicing their opinions of your game. Heed the audience and you'll go far. Learn to accept criticism and work to better your project if indeed these opinions are correct of your current project. The alternative--insisting your project is totally awesome--isn't a mentality that allows one to grow.

Re: Cosmic Rage, a futuristic MUD unlike any other

I used to love this game at one point but once I got high level enough I came to realize that all the activities eventually take on a repetitiveness akin to standard mining operations. So I'd love to see different varieties of things in the future instead of just having a whole bunch of activities which are all inherited from mining. As it stands right now the game gets rather grindy rather quickly and I couldn't stay interested for more than a week, especially when I'd tag along with higher level players on "Awesome activities!" only to end up just sitting in their decked out star ships watching the same message scroll across the screen (and I joined a lot of players on higher level activities when I was playing.) Once the novelty of the messages wore off, I'd say "have a good day" and log off, saddened that another player has failed to impress me by insisting at first that the activity they're doing is totally awesome.Basically I've found the game suffers from a wide disparity between automation and manual labor: if an activity is to be done manually, it's arduous enough to turn players away and is also drastically underrewarded, and if it's automated, it gets boring enough to put me to sleep. If this changes I'd love to give this one another try. Player base is friendly and pretty active and I enjoyed that since nowadays these types of games are totally introverted and full of people who spend their latter lives in mommy and daddy's basement building up a character and owning the world in the game and being evil to everyone.CR didn't suffer from that when I was on it: everyone I came across wanted to see everyone succeed and they were more than willing to help.

Three-D Velocity 2.30

Hi,A new TDV version is out. You can get it from https://github.com/munawarb/Three-D-VelocityIf you already have it, the auto updater will fetch it for you.You can view the formatted change log by going here: https://github.com/munawarb/Three-D-Vel … angelog.mdHere is the change log:Version 2.30, released on 07/28/2019Added• On startup, TDV now asks the player to configure how menus and status messages are spoken. The game can speak messages using either recorded wave files or by using the player's screen reader. This allows for quick localization of written text and allows the player to control the rate of speech of menus and status messages since these messages can be routed to screen-reading software (#82), (#85)• When throttling up or down, a click will sound when the throttle is closed, one quarter, one half, three quarters and full open (#86)• A click to mark zero degrees plays as the aircraft turns. The player can turn towards the click to reach zero degrees (#83)• A new status command, SHIFT + F, announces how many times the player is able to call on the midair refueler for assistance in Mission Mode (#80)• A new status command, O, replays the most recent mission objective when in Mission Mode (#63)Fixed• When saving a game in Mission Mode and then reloading the same game in that session, the aircraft would orient itself to the in-game heading instead of the heading from the save file (#64)• When the refueler runs out of fuel in Mission Mode, the proper message is now played instead of just the lock broken signal (#77)• Some RIO messages that were never played in the game have been removed (#84)• Under certain circumstances, the music would restore to full volume instead of the volume it was set at when the game regains focus (#81)Changes• The "RIO Messages" option is now above the "Save Game" option to make it more accessible (#75)• The Cruise Missiles will no longer wipe out the boss aircraft in one hit. Their effectiveness against other targets has not changed (#60)• In Mission Mode, all fighters that swarm the player are no longer labeled "fighter 1" (#56)

Re: Future of GoldGun: Production discontinued

One of the reasons I never took the time to find out what this game was about is because I had a gut feeling the project would be scrapped eventually. It seems like a lot of developers are throwing in the towel nowadays because people don't like what they put out. Back when the market was still young, you forged ahead no matter what people said, but I fear that over time developers have become more and more sensitive and are more customer-driven. For example, I've seen countless topics on this forum asking if people will like a certain game before the developer ventures out to create it. So, instead of the developers leading the market, they are asking for the broad customer base to lead the market. This type of attitude shows the unwillingness to take risks like what we used to do years ago. All of us, from me to Liam Erven to David Greenwood, were criticized heavily for our work. One of the first people to bring the blind community together online, Joker Dog, creator of Accessible Chat, was heavily criticized for the "simple nature" of his games. Yet he forged ahead. Despite all this,  our games still existed ( many of which still exist to this day.) But this type of "I'm leaving because you guys hurt my feelings and criticized me" attitude is making me more and more hesitant to try new games, because eventually the developers will get all hurt and things and abandon the project.Especially for a game like this where each chapter is paid, now I'm really, really glad I didn't get into it because I'd be left hanging along with everyone who played it and actually got involved in the story line. There was a really good game by a kid named Danny a while ago, and he left for the same reason: couldn't handle the criticism. You'd be surprised if I tell you what some people said about TDV when it was under development. I think folks are finally finding out that producing games is so much more than just hammering away at a keyboard: it requires thick skin and true, dedicated effort, which no one has today. So yay to another short-lived spark and may the trend continue for any new developer that comes along and gets butt-hurt by what people said.

I never downloaded or followed this game, but I do remember a time when TDV was under development and people got butt-hurt that we were using the word "blind" in it. I don't know what people got offended by here or what stereotypes they found too offensive for their pretty little ears, but I feel you and know exactly what you're talking about, coming from the perspective of a developer who got screamed at for jokingly calling the main character blind if they lost.So yeah, this community in particular seems to get offended very easily. I think this community is too uptight, but I hope it never discourages you from developing games. We need more serious developers who will actually pay for quality content as you've done, instead of just using synthesizers and then charging for the game anyway. The best way to handle it is say "the hell with it" and develop what you want to. In my experience, people will buy it if they think it's good because the screamers usually get shut down by the adults.

Re: audio cookie clicker v1.0 released, our christmas gift

Do you mean switching game frameworks? If so, I'd recommend you fix the performance first. User experience takes priority above everything. The thing is, ultimately your users won't notice the change in gaming engines, but they will notice that the game isn't eating processing power like a bunch of contending threads. In fact I haven't played the game since that one day simply because of its horrible performance. So take care of that before doing bigger (but more end-user-subtle things.)

It's really bad when it lags on a system like mine with an SSD, 2.9 GHZ Core I-7 system. This is a system that loads Visual Studio in about three seconds. LOL. For a simple game like this, there's no reason it should lag so much and take up so much processing power.

This game is alright, but I don't like keeping it on too long because it warms up my laptop very (and I mean very!) quickly. It's rather laggy (but this has been mentioned in the readme.) I think you're blocking GUI events from processing when the game is in baking mode, because the title bar flashes almost like it's become unresponsive. Same thing happens in the menu.It seems like you're throwing the game into an infinite while loop with no Yield to other threads while in baking mode...

Re: Three-D Velocity, open-source flight simulator 2.24 released!

Hi @sanslash332,I looked into this further yesterday and it seems like while XNA is deprecated, XAudio2 and XInput are not. In fact, Microsoft is encouraging people to move away from DirectSound in favor of XAudio2 and XInput. This reminded me of why I chose not to ultimately implement XInput when I looked at it years ago: it didn't have the flexibility and power that DirectInput offers, because it's meant to be run on all Microsoft-supported platforms including XBox. So XBox served as the limiting agent for the framework.I don't know if that's changed since I looked at it so many years ago.As far as XAudio2, as far as I can tell it's very much under development and researching it has ended with me being confused as to what Microsoft is dropping support for and what they're actively working on. LOL.I do try to keep TDV's technology current but man, I'm not sure I'm ready to overhaul DirectSound to XAudio2. It looks like they're drastically different from one another. Do you have any pointers on this? I'd hate to rewrite TDV to use XAudio2 only to find out Microsoft is reverting to DirectSound.

Three-D Velocity, open-source flight simulator 2.24 released!

2018-12-07 Thread AudioGames . net ForumNew releases room : Munawar via Audiogames-reflector

Three-D Velocity, open-source flight simulator 2.24 released!

Version 2.24, released on 12/07/2018Added• NuGet packages for SharpDX now use the latest stable version, since the XAudio2 bug introduced in SharpDX 4.1.0 that would prevent XAudio2 from initializing was fixed. Also, TDV now points to BPCSharedComponent.Input for the DXInput class instead of a stand-alone class. The class inside TDV has been moved to BPCSharedComponent.Input.DXInput (#70)• TDV no longer uses XAudio2 for music playback and is instead using DirectSound. This means that the game no longer relies on the XNA framework which has been deprecated by Microsoft for some time. The SharpDX.XAudio2 NuGet package has been removed. Please note that since DirectSound buffers use integers for volume control instead of floating-point numbers, it is recommended for everyone upgrading to this version to delete their data/settings.tdv file or the menu music might be silenced (#57)• A new option has been added to the in-game options menu to turn off RIO messages. These messages are on by default (#62)• TDV now uses left and right CTRL to grab an opponent during CQC instead of using the ALT key. This key configuration is compatible across a wider range of keyboard configurations compared to relying on the ALT key (#59)Fixed• Background music is properly faded in when the game window regains focus (#67)• A potential race condition that would prevent the game from moving past the chopper fight in the mission has been corrected (#65)• Sometimes, when adding objects to the object table, object IDs would be recycled. This would cause problems such as newly spawned fighters in Training Mode to not appear on the radar because they were already tracked. This was due to the new object's ID being the same as the previously destroyed object's ID. Object IDs are longer than they were which will prevent this issue. Previously, an object's ID could range from one to nine characters. The minimum length of an ID is now ten characters (#74)• In older key-handling code, TDV would sometimes read keyboard input outside of the game environment (#72)https://github.com/munawarb/Three-D-Velocity

It works fine on my end and I spent quite a long time trying different things to see if the bug pops up. No go. So I'm almost ready to say this is user error or you're not understanding something in the game correctly and calling it a bug, unless someone else can reproduce this issue. Also, many thanks to those of you who are taking your bug reporting to GitHub. I really do appreciate that since it cuts down on the number of places I have to look for feedback and makes fixing and tracking issues efficient. Those of you who are having trouble posting, there are tons of blind people already posting on GitHub so it's by no means inaccessible; you just need to figure it out. Concerning the frozen guard thing, that one will be difficult for me to solve since I personally cannot hear the targeting beep because of my hearing loss. I depend solely on the SHIFT+ARROW keys to notify me about guards and other objects. But I'll do my best to look into it, probably get someone else to confirm for me if it is still an issue after the next update.I hope the next version you will actually like, since I truly did work hard to make this open source for no other reason than for people to enjoy it.

Three-D Velocity With Server Update

Hi Everyone!I have made an update to TDV just now and have fixed a few things. Also, the server has some admin commands. I'll add more as I get new ideas and people give suggestions on what admins should be allowed to do. As always, the repository for TDV is here: https://github.com/munawarb/Three-D-Velocity.The page has a link to the binary download as well.
