I just recently purchased the Razer Blackshark v2 for like $100, and it's quite good for that price. They sound much better than Airpods, although that is because they aren't in-ear headphones.

musicalman wrote:Mitch wrote:I don't want to make the same mistake that I did last time by purchasing a Dell. (Waves Maxx just irritates me to this day) What laptop companies leaveheadphone audio alone?Ugh I hate Max Audio too. Fortunately there are ways to disable it; I had to deal with precisely this when I got my new Dell machine last June.I reformatted the machine practically the moment I received it. Windows 10 makes this easy, iirc in settings you just go to reset your PC and you can reinstall Windows from there. I can't remember the exact steps, but I installed Windows from an iso image so it's a clean installation. If your machine is anything like mine, the product key will already be set up for you from the factory, and if you reinstall Windows from within Windows itself, your key should carry over. It's a nice quick way to get the bloatware off, then you can get rid of Max Audio if you like.On my Dell desktop, I was able to install older Realtek drivers from my previous Realtek sound card. I've been using it like that for months, and apart from some minor hiccups I had while trying to get it to work the way I wanted, it went smoothly to my utter amazement. I'm using it like that right now and I couldn't ask for anything better. If you can't find comparable drivers to replace Max audio with, there's always the option of just using the generic HD audio driver which comes with all machines. That does leave headphone audio alone, but will keep you from accessing any special features of your sound card like Stereo mix, microphone boost, audio enhancements, extended bit depth/sampling rates etc. so far as I know. If you don't need any of that, then you can use the generic audio driver, but I have heard on some laptops it makes the sound very quiet especially on speakers, as some sound cards apply processing on speakers to attempt to get the tinniness out and amplify the sound. I've seen laptops do it.Of course, fussing about with your sound drivers does require you to mess around with device manager and modify stuff that you shouldn't take lightly. Screw up and you'll have no sound. So if you're going to do that, make doubly sure you have a working USB sound card or headset that you can use until your main sound card is sorted out. That said, you shouldn't break things too badly. If worse comes to worst, you can uninstall sound drivers and have Windows Update repair them. This should happen automatically if needed, at least it did on my desktop. It gave me Max Audio back in that case, but at least I had sound and I could start over with trying to get it off.So, while I'd do my research if I were you, I wouldn't avoid Dells or anything else which come with Max Audio. Sadly I think it's sort of becoming more common. How common I don't really know, but if push comes to shove, it's going to be easier to get the physical specs you want and get Max Audio off of there than it will be to go the other way around I think.Admittedly I haven't looked much into laptops or alternate brand pcs or anything like that, though, so perhaps most people do find success just avoiding Max Audio entirely and getting something from a different brand? I honestly don't know, so yeah, do your research before you purchase, and let us know what you find. This is very helpful! Thanks so much! I will definitely look into this! When I did re-install windows once I think I just reset and I didn't do a clean install. That would explain why they came back though.

To answer the prominent question, it's just because the 120 hz means nothing to me, and I would assume that would bump up the price quite a bit.  Although, it seems like anything with good specs nowadays has a good display to go along with it.

Considering getting a new laptop, but I have a question

Hello! So I'm considering upgrading my laptop (as it's gotten quite old by this point) to something newer. However, I don't want to make the same mistake that I did last time by purchasing a Dell. (Waves Maxx just irritates me to this day) What laptop companies leaveheadphone audio alone? (I know Realtech has problems but I personally haven't had any issues with them) I'm also trying to look for one with a full-size keyboard with a number pad. The unfortunate thing is, though, it seems like all of the gaming laptops that do have number pads also have 120 hz or above displays, and no way to downgrade them. If I'm wrong, if I were to buy a different type of laptop and use it for gaming, it might still cost more to get one with the equivalent specs and have a 60 hz display. Any help would be appreciated. (my current selections are the HP Omen line  and something from ASUS, since AMD seems to be on the  whole cheaper than Intel)

Re: need advice on getting a new computer

Don't get a MacBook right now. Mostly due to the new silicon that will be added to the Mac, it'll probably be wiser to wait. You're probably not going to be able to program for Windows on it, but it'll future-proof way better than current ones. That being said though, I still can't recommend the Mac for programming because of how awful Voiceover is in the terminal. There have been many times where I have compiled something and VoiceOver skips errors.

Re: New Maschine leaked, Maschine +, standalone

@Jack,True point, though usability, should, in theory, go hand in hand with accessibility. I agree with your general assumption, but that won't always be the case. Applications should be usable enough for anyone especially in those cases. Who knows? The fact that the interface was intuitive might  compel them to thiment a little.Accesibility-related assumptions usually do more harm than good, unfortunately. In the broader sense, (straying from NI accessibility for a sec), if someone was told application A was accessible by the developers of said application, and recommended it to one of their clients only to find out that it was not accessible or usable. Assumptions like this seem to be the root of the problem when it comes to intuitiveness and accessibility.

Re: New Maschine leaked, Maschine +, standalone

@Jack:I agree with you on your main poinarst regarding the state of Native Access. For me, on MacOS, it's completely accessible to use. However, I believe teven though it can be accessible on Windows, it isn't truly accessible if it's not easily usable. I understand that the object navigation exist, and that's a valid way of accessibly getting around, but that still doesn'tmean it's accessible. For an app to be accessible, in my opinion, an app needs to be able to be used by all levels of technological prowess. If you have someone who wanted a Windows PC for music production, and had just started learning, and nly knew ,b the tabbing method, they could easily come to the conclusion that it's not accessible for them. Coming from that point of view, it's not, and that's the main point I'm trying to stress here. We can't assume how technologically savvy any person is when approaching a new application they have no familiarity with. That's why it's helpful to have the app accessible via tabbing and object navigation.

So I was browsing through the features that would come to iOS 14, and found the accessibility features. The one that stuck out the most, is VoiceOver recognition, which (apparently), makes web experiences and apps that aren't natively accessible accessible with VoiceOver. It appears that that means interface controls too, and if it works like I hope it does, it might be huge for game accessibility. We'll probably not be able to play action games, but turn-based games shouldn't that hard (maybe).

Re: which pc should i buy

@MyDearWatson, I got some help from Dell support regarding the headphone issue (selecting them each time). According to them, there is a button that disables that pop-up.I never use so speakers, so while it would deffinitely help there, it doesn't headphone-wise, especially in audio conferences. I had to be in office hours for most of the day for like 8 weeks, and unfortunately, Waves Maxx was making JAWS and NVDA unbearably loud. It's just bad.

Downloading all of EastWest's instruments on a Mac

So I finally got around to picking up that free 90-day trial for ComposerCloud to see if the EastWest instruments are worth it in the long run (right now, I have my doubts for playabilyoung, mostly because there's so many different kinds of patches).  I'm having trouble downloading everything on my MacBook, mostly because I'm receiving an error when placing the libraries directly within my Applications folder. do I need to create folders for each and every library to go in?I'm also not sure where to find how to make them all work with NKS, as there doesn't appear to be any codes that I could paste into Native Access. Any suggestions?

Buying a longer cable for my capture card. Please help

So initially, to be more comfortable while capturing video from my Switch and XBOX One, I had bought a usb 2.0 to micro USB cable for my capture card. However, it appeared to not work correctly with it, as I was receiving a windows explorer saying the device malfunctioned. However, when I switched the cables that I was using (a different, much shorter one), both cables worked fine.My question is this: is there a difference between micro USB and micro B, and do you have any reccomendations for any long usb 3.0 to micro Usb cables, preferrably over 15ft? Thanks!

I believe that the a49 comes with Komplete Start. I bought my a61 in a bundle deal last July, where I was able to buy Komplete 12 for way less than its original asking price. This may be a question that can be answer based on people's experiences, but I'm using Logic instead of Reaper. Sometimes when I have a lot of tracks running, audio starts crackling. I am using a SteelSeries GameDac to plug into my Mac's speakers. Would that be more based on CPU throttling over anything else? It's also crackling on my MacBook Pro's soundcard using headphones plugged directly in.

Re: Using Slang is Homophobic now?

Personally I just don't like the word "handicappf". It just rubs me the wrong way, personally. The things that frustrate me, though, is when you see videos that say "a blind person can play this game", and the people themselves have some vision that is being used to play said game. It's not a huge gripe, but being totally blind and going onto someone's video or stream and not knowing they have some vision and buying the game only to find out it's NOT actually playable without vision or other means necessary is that little ounce of disappointment that inevitably occurs.   And now I just remembered why more people with some vision refer to themselves as being blind, due to legal blindness. I'm okay with that, but I just wished that there was some sort of universally used term to differentiate.

So I was in the market for a guitar sample library (I can't play guitar to save my life), and I decided to pick up Shreddage 3 HYDRA by Impact Soundworks. It's sooo worth it. Most of the needed parameters are programmed in NKS, though there's no way to change the effects that come with it, or stereo double it. Super worth the price though. Slightly off-topic, but has anyone tried any Cinesamples libraries, and can vouch for their accessibility? symphony Essentials honestly isn't cutting it for me for that, so I'm trying to look into different stuff. Not that I'm discounting the BBC Symphony Orchestra from Spitfire either, just looking for other stuff as CinePerc  is super well-regarded.

@34 I honestly like portability because it's easy to carry around (in school when in-person teaching was a thing I carried it around a lot). I also like my laptops thinner so they're lighter, but I do like power. That being said though, I understand why you have trouble with the AMD. It appears that the Ryzen 4000 ones from my knowledge might even surpass Comet Lake in efficichcy (at least I would assume so, 14 nm vs. 7 nm), and I think they may also be less expensive. The problem I have to going to more powerful stuff (like on a gaming laptop) is stuff like RGB which is useless to someone with no vision. I do think build quality is a good thing to have (I've owned my Dell laptop for a year now and it's case has already cracked, even though I handle it nicely.)

Sorry for the double-post.As much as I don't like upgrading my laptops the year after I got them (I have a 2019 13-inch MBP for Mac-based applications), I am seriously considering it because of the keyboard. I cannot stand the butterfly keyboard, and I know that if I upgrade now, it'll last me another 7 years like my 2012 one did. 32GB even in music production in Logic wouldn't even be needed, it's mostly the processor for me that is the bottle-neck. Sorry for the double-post.So I'm a *tiny* bit confused. Is there an advantage of getting a mixer instead of an audio interface, when streaming solely from a laptop? Does either one allow you to stream system audio, or are there other advantages of having a mixer?

@21 do a cursury YouTube search and you should probably be able to find that answer. vots of YouTube channels do mic tests, so that should get you pointed in the right dirrection. There's so many audio interfaces though: it's honestly overwhelming. I just remembered that NI has one, but I'm not sure if there's any software that is needed to control it. Same with the PreSonus 96 Box. Anyone have any knowledge about those two?

I've done a bit of research, and while the Blue Encore is nice, I think the Rode PodMic, in my opinion, suits me more. The encore 200 is a great mic, but I think it has a bit too much bass, and I feel like the PodMic has a more well-rounded sound. Thank you all for the suggestion, though. It helped me figure out what I was looking for.

@19 Honestly it surprises me how many people just accept the Yeti's for what they are. The Encore is super nice, though. Fun fact ow just realized that may help in the situation of input monitoring: I have a SteelSeries Arctis Pro + Gamedac, and I can run audio from the DAC and the 3.5 mm jack at the same point, which solves my issue of not being able to listen to system audio and my mic as well.

Sorry for the double-post.@15 How accessible would you say the Control software for Focusrite is on PC? I'm considering the Solo (as I only really need one mic input right now), but I hope that the set-up process  is accessible and changing input levels (as it appears that Control is required for most things on the Focusrite). Also, does the Scarlett broadcast system audio into the audio interface as well when using the headphone port, or what other way could I listen to the system audio and monitoring my input as well?

I'd probably shoot for the Road NT1, though it's pretty expensive all things considered. The Encore sounded surprisingly good for a Blue mic (probably because it's an active dynamic). As for mixers, are there any that you can listen to system audio (like streaming through OBS, as an example), or would I have to find something else to do that?

Ahh, okay. So I would assume then that plugging headphones  into the PC itself would not let you monitor the mic then? It makes sense that the reverb would still be there. I just wanted to check regarding that.I'm probably going to get a mic in the $100-$200 price range  (I'll upgrade down the line). Does the Behringer mixers allow you to fully configure from the mixer itself, not having to use any software at all?@3 that would be very helpful.

Looking for some recommendations on Usb/XLR microphones

2020-05-07 Thread AudioGames . net ForumOff-topic room : Mitch via Audiogames-reflector

Looking for some recommendations on Usb/XLR microphones

Hello. I'm looking into getting a good quality mic for streaming, and I'm leaning towards XLR mics over USB mics, as it seems that the audio quality is better (and its upgradability). 1. I'm curious as to why the Blue Yeti (a mic that a lot of streamers use) is liked so much. It seems to me that the Yeti picks up a lot of reverb that is picked up from the room. Is there a reason for this, and is that another reason to shy away from USB mics?2. What audio interface makers (or USB mics) should I shy away from? I've heard that the GO XLR Mini is a good pick, but I am curious how accessible it is.  Thanks for the help in advance!

Re: Covid Fearers, Please Read

@57And that's the thing. From what you explained, I understand your side of how you feel about the current situation within the presidency. And the fact is, you laid the facts out, clean and simply. I just wish everyone else did that.Same goes for Trump. He does the same things that he accuses the left of doing. It's all a matter of perception, in the grand scheme of things. People are ignorant. That's a fact. I'd like to say that I'm not ignorant, but that could very well not be true. And that's the thing. Even if we may not agree about the same things, we can still have a civil discussion. I just wish that people remembered that more often.

Re: Covid Fearers, Please Read

Honestly it just disappoints me to see the insults thrown from both sides of the political line. I understand that you don't agree with certain things (like what Trump says/does, or the left's response to it), but saying "go screw yourself" is never the option.I do admit that I probably lean more right than left, but I'd like to consider myself mostly in the center. However, the pure vitriol and slander from both sides (and indirectly shown by that posts in this topic) just saddens me. I understand that what some of you think Trump is doing is wrong, but jumping on every "wrong" thing that you believe he says and dragging him through the ground is below human decency. And same to the Alt right. Saying ignorant things about how the economy should come first is seriously saddening, as it is the people who drive the economy. If you think about it, the more people die, the less people you would have to sell to.I wish, especially now, that people could just stop bickering along political lines like little children. It's honestly depressing how this situation has devolved into even more vitriol in politics.

Chrome on the BrailleNote Touch Plus: An unusable Mess on some sites

I have been using my BrailleNote Touch Plus for a while now, and while I love the general responsiveness of the user interface, Chrome on sites with many video ads renders the browser almost unusable. I know that it shouldn't be like this, as the firefox browser they used before worked fine enough, and the processor and RAM in the device are enough to run it. Should I just contact tech support regarding these bugs, or is there a bug reporting page I'm not aware of? I googled around (though I may not have looked hard enough). Does anyone also know of any ad-blockers that work with Chrome, or any settings that I can tweak to make Chrome more responsive?
