Re: How to do drum sequencing in reaper

Thanks guys, Wonderful ideas I've got from y'all. However, What I'm trying to do is something like drum programming not playing it. Although I've got a midi controler but for complex rhythms I feel it's better to program it rather than play the rhythm with midi overdub.Another question:Let's say, if I've got drum samples (kicks, snairs etc) how could I make a drum kit in reaper using those? In other words: any other good accessible sampler besides reasample?

How to do drum sequencing in reaper

Hello guys,What I'm trying to do in reaper is something like building a pattern for my drum tracks and make reaper record it for how many bars I'd say it to.For example, I need my kicks to sound at beats one and three, my snairs at two and four. And I want such a pattern for the first part of my song, say, the first 8 bars.(Though this was only an example. Because I'd like to build very complex patterns. That's why I need this.)I've seen many sighted people build their drum tracks by putting kicks, highhats, snairs and such on the grid in FL Studio. Either using drum samples or VSTI.I've googled a bit about this and I found out that it's called "Sequencing".Is there something accessible for this in reaper?

Accessible Technical Analysis Software/Resources Recommendations

Hello everyone,Basically Technical Analysis consists of analysing the past data for a market (For example Gold or BTC or whatever) using various methods (Indicators, Trend lines, etc...) to predict the future of that market.I'm working somewhere that I'm required to analyse these kinds of data. I'm learning the theory gradually but not everything is doable with my mind only. Sighted people have several softwares that automatically calculates, draws charts, predicts buy and sell signals, backtests your strategy and so on.Is there any accessible way of doing technical analysis on market data with the help of computers? Also any accessible resources/references to technical analysis (Formulas, Theories etc...) is appreciated.

Windows Imaging Backup Tools: Questions and asking for recommendations

Windows Imaging Backup Tools: Questions and asking for recommendations

Hello everyone,Since I migrated to windows 10 and a new laptop two and a half years ago, I always did a clean install of windows and went through the pain of installing everything. Before that, I used to backup my windows partition with Drive Snapshot and whenever something went wrong, I'd restore the backup. The reason why I stopped using Drive Snapshot was because my brother and I bought the same laptop. It's got UEFI and Secure Boot is already enabled on it. I don't know if UEFI or Secure Boot has got anything to do with my issue but my issue was that after restoring the backup, Windows didn't boot at all and I was forced to do a clean install.Since then I steared clear of backup tools. Mostly because I don't know if I backup with them today, one month from now when I need to use them would they work or not?I'm about to reinstall windows in the next few days and was wondering if there's any way for me to back it up after installation of windows and necessary programs or not.So here are my questions about this:1. Do you know why Drive Snapshot failed to restore my backup?Has it got anything to do with UEFI and Secure Boot?If so, is there anyway around it to let me use DS again?2. I saw someone recommended Macrium Reflect a while ago here.Is it able to do what I was doing with Drive Snapshot? What about the free version? I mean for someone like me who wants to backup and restore whenever something goes wrong in windows or I mess up something would the free version suffice?Does Macrium Reflect have issue with UEFI and Secure Boot similar to Drive Snapshot or not?3. A few years back some friend recommended Norton Ghost for windows imaging backup.Do you have any experience with Norton Ghost? Is Norton Ghost able to work with UEFI-based machines with Secure Boot enabled?4. Something that just came into my mind while writing the above questions: What if I use Talking Windows PE to restore Drive Snapshot backups? Can I get around that issue this way?5. Any other suggestions, recommendations etc... are welcome.I just need something with no bells and whistles that actually does the job ifficiently. For many years, Drive Snapshot which follows a KISS principle worked wonderfully for me.Sorry for asking so many questions and thanks in advance for your great responses.

Questions about some of JAWS little quirks that puts me off

Hello guys,A few JAWS questions:Note that I was using JAWS untill maybe 2014 and since then I completely switched to NVDA.Now that I'm used to NVDA, These JAWS quirks are annoying to me. I'd completely forgot about everything JAWS but a few days ago decided to try the new 2019 JAWS for the sake of curiocity. Though, It's unlikely I would switch back to it but I'd like to learn everything so yeah.1. When I open up JAWS it changes the colors on my screen while NVDA doesn't do that. It seems JAWS turns off all the fancy graphics stuff. Is there any option in JAWS to prevent that without affecting its functionality?I'm not totally blind and would like my themes and colors as it is, thank you very much. And I know that it's just jaws because as soon as I quit JAWS everything's back to normal.Hmm, Maybe something related to video intercept?2. It seems JAWS wants to hold my hand like a baby in web pages by changing the layout to suit me.I mean look at NVDA: It shows you the page as it is and does not attempt to, let's say, putting in-line links in a separate line.Is there any way to turn off that annoying feature? It's especially bad for web developers like me who'd like to know how does the page really look not the way JAWS thinks it looks.3. When I copy something from a webpage, JAWS messages are also included when I paste it.Like this:list of three items. You get what I mean. If you'd take a look at articals in jaws-users.com you'd see plenty of this whenever people have copied the articals from somewhere else.Whel what if I'd like to copy something for my sighted friend? Should I actually edit the whole text or can I make it behave normal? That's it for now. Thanks for reading my part question and part rant lol.And thanks in advance to those who take the time and answer my questions.

Hello guys,In the good ol' days of Windows XP, I would always use Windows Movie Maker to edit or/ create videos.Nowadays I'm in need of a Video Editor software that is accessible enough and capable of:Adding text to the video. Both on the video itself and between some scenes.Adding music to the video.Adding images to the video preferably with some effects.I'm mainly interested to do the following and if you've got other recommendations then I'll be grateful if you'd share them with me:Adding a cover art to a music and turn it to a video for video sharing services such as YouTube and Instagram.Making lyric videos out of a music also for sharing on online platforms.Making a video out of a music and a few memorible images and add some transition effects for the images. Also cutting and joining videos especially cutting 30 or 60 seconds of a video also for things like Instagram. As you can see it's nothing too complex.I've heard also some people strangely use reaper for video editing. I myself am using reaper on a daily basis but never worked with videos. Just for music making.

Linux / Arch Linux Questions

Hi guys! So, I've got a few questions about Arch Linux and Linux in general and seeing there are many experienced Linux users here, decided to ask here:I wanted to learn Linux. The obvious choice for everyone is ubuntu or ubuntu-mate. But I need to learn things by putting it together myself.Although I'd probably end up using those distros for their ease of use but at this stage where I'm a total beginner in linux, The ease of use is a kind of hindrance for learning.I decided to install Arch Linux on a VM and go from there.1. Although there is Talking Arch, Is there any way to use the official ISO from the Arch Linux website?I mean is it possible to make it speak myself?2. Is it possible to get the Arch ISO and with the help of sighted assistance install it and enable some sort of screen reader later after installation? In other words, Is it possible to install and run speakup after installation?3. The screen reader that is built into Talking Arch is speakup. During installation we need to install espeakup. What is the difference between those two? Is espeakup a variant of speakup with the ESpeak TTS built into it?4. Is there any other Screen Reader that works inside the shell or whatever that's called in Arch Linux similar to speakup?Does Orca work there or it only works inside a GUI?5. Which other lightweight linux distros would you recommend that I can use to learn like the Arch Linux?I might ask other things later but that is enough for now

Re: OCR Software Suggestions and Questions About Kurzweil1000

Sorry for bumping this topic up but I've got another question which I'd be very grateful if someone help me.Today I opened a secured pdf with kurzweil1000 which needed a password to be opened.I pressed "Cancel" button and it tried to convert the pdf to image using Adobe Acrobat Reader which I have installed and Convert it to text. The question is: Could I do that with non-secure pdfs?I mean forcing kurzweil1000 to convert it to images first and then convert it?Because the resulting text was slightly better.

Navigation with Google Maps in android

Hi guys!I was looking for an audio turn by turn gps navigation app for android.I thought to myself why not Google Maps itself? Why should I look further?Although there are things like GetThere or Nearby Explorer Online but none of them meet my requirements. So first off, I wanted to ask does Google Map support audio navigation (Like: "Turn left" or "Head south")?And secondly, How to get the damn thing to work? Because I tried messing with it a bit and I couldn't find the damn thing so I gave up trying.Last but not least, Is it a decent gps navigation for blind people? If not then what do you guys suggest?

Re: USB Midi Keyboards, Do they have latency issues?

@shotgunshellWhich DAW you use on Mac?Is it better than reaper in terms of accessibility?I might consider going to Mac. though I'm a Windows user for almost 12 years so it's not so much possible to leave Windows @ironcross32Yeah, you're totally right. When I change the audio device to WASAPI I'd have no latency with the "vertual midi keyboard" in reaper. So what you're basicly saying is that the midi input (whether it be midi keyboard or virtual midi keyboard) is not the cause of latency, it is the soundcard output, right? If so then I have no latency with WASAPI. At least if it's got some latency my ears cannot detect it Though I've heard that if I use WASAPI it'll damage my onboard soundcard, is that right? And you answered another of my questions unknowingly A few days ago I installed ASIO4ALL driver and changed the audio device to that but completely lost speech It seems that was the reason for that.@flackersIt seems you also confirmed my above guess that the latency is in the output not input. right? As I said above, I have no (or next to nothing) latency using WASAPI.But my concern is that would it damage my onboard soundcard?@G-RadYou're helping us a lot both in this and the other topic G-Rad, thanks By now I'm 90% sure that the latency isn't in the input rather in the output. So, If I resolve the latency in the output device wouldn't I encounter any latency while plug in a midi keyboard?

USB Midi Keyboards, Do they have latency issues?

Well, beside the drum tracks which I made a separate topic for it, We're facing another issue. We were planning to buy an m-audio keystation mini to play our music stuff with that in reaper. We decided to speak with a professional musician about it and he told us that we definitely need an audio interface. Because if we connect the midi keyboard to the PC or laptop we'd have horrible latency issues. Is that true?Should we buy an audio interface for something that we're not sure we could continue on?We just want to buy a midi keyboard just for learning purposes and if all goes well we might buy something more professional in the future.

Drum Tracks In Reaper, What should be used?

Hi guys!So we wanted to begin using reaper for our music stuff but we're stuck at the beginning We're looking for a good and usable drum VSTI for our drum tracks but no results yet. therefore, we decided to ask here.By usable I mean we can use it by some tricks. I don't expect it to be fully accessible cause it's clear that nothing's perfect in the VST world.Currently we're using samples with "VSTi: ReaSamplOmatic5000 (Cockos)" but from the things we observed from some VSTI such as "Superior Drummer" or "Addictive Drums" they've got much much better quality and are more natural sounding than what we've got right now.We tried to work with "Superior Drummer 3" but no luck there, it wasn't a bit accessible in bridged mode.We haven't tested "Addictive drums" yet but we're planning on doing so.So, what y'all are using and we're looking forward to your suggestions on drum tracks! If you have another suggestion on making drum tracks, we're looking forward to that also!
