Re: I need headphone recommendations Hi, I have heard good things about the HyperX Cloud 2, but haven't used it myself so don't know. Problem is, in most headphones that I have seen, either they tend to sound great, but aren't that comfortable to wear, and the ones that are comfortable to where, tend to sound too flat. Maybe good for audiofiles or ones doing audio production, but for my songs and movies I want it to be basey where in the base isn't muddy but it's strong enough to be felt, and comfortable at the same time. Anyone experienced something like that in the headphones they have used? and if so, I would love the recommendations. Hoping to have the soundbar work with the pc directly, as if it doesn't, it'll mean me having to do quite a few things to get things going and having ATMOS and DTX work. Honestly, I would have just got the jbl 9.1 and gave it a go, if we had something like a returns policy around here. All I am planning to do is have bluerays that have DTX and ATMOS to play with vlc through the bar, and apps like netflix and amazon prime to play ATMOS and DTX with. HDMI ARC and audio Hi, I have been thinking of purchasing a soundbar for a while now, probably the jbl 9.1, but have 2 questions. Does Dolby Atmos work with HDMI ARC? Currently, the setup would go something like this. jbl 9.1 connected to the hdmi port to the pc, and the monitor connected to the hdmi out on the soundbar. also, if I want my screenreader to come through the speakers connected via 3.1mm jack and not the soundbar which will be connected to the hdmi port on my pc/ graphics card would I be able to do so? Re: Netflix and Audio Description Hi, In my opinion, out of all the OTT platforms/ studios that do AD, netflix is by far the best, and so ahead of others that amazon etc can't even see netflix's exhaust fumes The only service that comes even slightly close to it is perhaps apple TV+, which doesn't really have as many shows or movies anyway. Usually netflix has AD for all it's shows and movies, but only in their original language and not dubs, but if there's enough requests for such or if it's popular enough AD in dubbed language is also added. Re: Music and it's impacts on dealing with trouble Hi, The feeling of listening to/ playing music is indeed very cathartic, for me especially when I am down or depressed.@arceus, whilst I can't play the guitar, I love the sound, and I am not really that great at playing the keyboard (having not played it in years), nothing is as good as playing something randomly that comes to you. Good luck on the electric guitar, and I hope things go good for you@audioracer, sometimes, a particular song will express things a lot better than I can, or how I feel, then I could actually describe myself. The act of sharing that song is just as good as sharing my thoughts and feelings with my friends which I might fail to express or not feel comfortable saying. @DJEPIC, it depends really, at times my friends don't like a ceratin type of music that I particularly enjoy, but there have been times where I have shared something with them only for them to realize that they actually like it, even though they might not enjoy all songs in that genre. @afrim, to be perfectly honest, I have always enjoyed music, but it wasn't a necessity for me as such, it's only recently that I have come to realize the positive ways in which it's able to help, be it as a outlet for my feelings, or the feeling of sitting with a bunch of friends or strangers even and enjoying the same music is a great way to make friends or feel like you belong or a part of something. all this is to say, Music just like well written poems has been able to elicit strong reactions in me before, but I wasn't a regular listener or anything and or realized it's benefits as such, or didn't really think about it conciously. @Lucas1853, ironicly enough, music has been able to help me when I was very low and under to come up to a state where I am at least feeling better and not feeling like killing myself. For I am usually reserved emotionally, and rarely if ever express myself and it tends to build up after a while.@fonografico2, that is indeed very unfortunate. I personally believe you should like what you like, and not let anyone else control the kind of things you listen/ read or do and or say. Nothing wrong with liking female singers, Adele along with many other female singers is my most favorite.@ironcross32, I am quite similar where in I actually can't care much for the genre of the song, as long as it either has good lyrics, music and or voice. Music and it's impacts on dealing with trouble Hi guys, The last few months in this year have been difficult, and I have been finding myself turning to music more and more to help deal with my emotions, and looking for other ways that might be of help. Music has always been one of the things that has been able to affect my emotions deeply, be it making me feel happy when I am down, or just something to relate to, at times when I feel alone. Listening to songs with people who enjoy the same kind of music is even better (concerts etc.), but that's obviously not possible right now. I am sure we all are looking for things to make ourselves feel better, especially in the times in which we find ourselves. So lets talk about this, What impact has music had on you, from nothing at all, to major difference in the way you feel? It can be anything from playing an instrument to listening to different types of songs, and of course, nothing builds friendships I have found as some good music you can groove to along with a few others. I thought of starting this topic to understand what works for you guys in difficult situations and what does not, and or give ideas to others to things they could try. So, what do you guys tend to use as a stress buster? Is music something that works for you same as it does for me? NVDA headings buttons rapper Hi, I am a jaws user that find themselves using jaws less and less, basicly at the start of the screen if that, and pretty much have nvda on all the time... Over time I have gotten used to how nvda works, and how different things are between jaws and NVDA. The one problem though that bugs me a lot is the differences in behavior between jaws and NVDA in the way they deal with headings, buttons or any other navigable object in a web document. Jaws will rap around the screen and jump to the first heading occurance of any object, as compared to NVDA's no more headings buttons etc announcement. The thing is this, which I had a huge problem with and which actually made me write a reply which as ironcross32 as has become a trend like I stated before so disgustingly pointed out, that is not post, just read and stay away, mostly. Unless I have a strong reaction to something and write anyway, even though the result isn't gonna be worth the few seconds of me putting in the time to write it in the first place. Brad has had the history of doing this before, yes. Many others, alongside him have had the same history, and yes, it does add a bit to the pile of negativity this forum has become, but it's more to do with people like ironcross32 and others who insult, demean and generally be a bunch of rude fill in the blank of your choice here, anyone and everyone left and right given a chance. They aren't usually wrong, as you and the rest aren't in this topic, but just because the entire internet or take what you will isn't a nice place to be, doesn't mean this forum has to go down the same root, it is up to us in the end what we make of it, after all. So instead of punishing brad, for something as small as posting a topic saying I am leaving because this is draining, the others ought to have been dealt with in whichever way the mods see best, instead. Again, not stating that brad was the one blameless or a saint here, no, of course he wasn't, but I don't think he is the type to post things, just to sit back with popcorn's and see the wagon go down burning. The Atention part of his post I see him as trying to defend himself from the usual comment of atention seaker that tend to be posted here, how ever ironic that was. So by banning brad under the community failure claws, That brad has done this 3 times knowingly that it creates drama, what the forum says is, anything that tends to get our users a bit insulting/ trolling and or heated/ causes drama, will lead to you getting banned not the people doing the heckling instead. Example, Screenreader topics, android topics, Iphone/ IOS topics etc etc, as these tend to get people fired up, and in the environment of this forum as it now exists leading people to make harsh/ insulting comments towards you or one another or generally heats up defending the product of their choice. I see this as a bit heavy handed and think if you want to make the community better, improve it's users by not allowing them to run free being nasty to everyone and anyone.@Ironcross32, just as charming as always, I thank you for your advice, and would like to state yet again, I am perfectly aware of what I am free to do and not do, and if I don't like people like you insulting people, I believe I am free to speak up, too which I have now done. so please keep your advice to yourself, such is not appreciated. Re: Android? or Apple? Hi, If you use your phone for browsing the web, want to keep up with notifications, and do any amount of typing, I would highly suggest against an android. Android 10, samsung, tried both tb and VA, gboard and samsung keyboard. Typing is so bad even with Braille screen input that I hardly if ever use my phone for that. not that I regularly typed on my IPhone anyway, but on android I avoid it whenever possible. I have started sending people voice messages! lmao So if you think the problems I have mentioned above are worse than that on IOS by all means switch, at least you won't have to deal with ITunes anymore I sold my IPhone because I was a bit financially strapped, hardly used my phone for anything but minimal typing web browsing, and for calls. Thinking I'd give android a fare try, and it would have managed to sort out it's issues as far as to allow doing those things I mentioned decently well, I switched and here we are. I would take a bloody IPhone SE over this any day. I can't even tell who's calling me unless I want to turn off the ringtone, and yes, I have those options in the settings enabled. I just press the volume up button to pick up the call these days without knowing who it is that might be calling me. I ought to know, considering I am sitting with a samsung atm, having sold my IPhone away for financial reasons. and I so wish I hadn't, or at least gotten even an IPhone SE older moddle if not the IPhone 6. Oh well, I'll stick it out. but here goes. 1. Boy, what I suspect you are doing is or did in that instence was to have moved the curser from the end to either the middle or to the start. This isn't easily done by mistake, but can happen if you are not used to touch screen and are just getting used to it2. By reading your posts, looks like android is a platform you are leaning towards, and as you state in your first post, on IOS writing took you 15 minutes, where as on android you did the same thing in just a few minutes. In that case, My suggestion would be to go with what your mind/ heart suggests and that is go with an android, because after all it will be you spending the money and will be you who would be using the device after that, so it is best I find to go with what you want in such cases.However,3. The writing and touch experience on android Sucks to degrees I can not describe, and no, I am no apple fan boy, but only speak from the experience of having owned several Current as well as old android and apple IOS devices. So if you are having issues with IOS screen touch and typing in general, be prepared to deal with even worse on Android. As for what Samsung to go for, anything in the S series would be good to go for, if android is what you have your heart set on, but then there are the one plus and the google pixul series as well. Hi, I am a farely new user of audacity myself, and don't do much besides trimming etc, but here's how you do it, just in case anyone else is wondering. play the track with space, reach the point where you want to delete to. Press X to mark the endpoint, and shift j to mark the start. you could use shift K if you wanted to select everything from the place marked with x to the en.d. useful in trimming the end, if needed. left braket and right with goldwave seems almost too easy in comparison, but audacity works well enough. Second thing to consider is not a single blind forum/ mailinglist along with many companys as far as I am aware treets bmmv, or the vault or discussions pertaining to them and or audiodescription as this forum does now. Food for thought. @mitch, If only it were as easy as that. First of all, not all of the titles that the vault contains are by netflix or prime, Hulu etc. There are many tv shows and movies that aren't available on those platforms. Even if let's say you are able to get access to a US vpn that at all works with Prime, you'll need payment/ a US card or similar. Which aren't at all possible to get. As for other reasons, a few that I can think of, others might have others are. 1. No description available at all for certain titles, and or No description available at all for any titles.2. no way to obtain/ get access to some titles even with a vpn, and or availability in US UK. 3. payment methods not supported I.E ITunes doesn't accept anything but Creditcards in certain countries, and CC's aren't easy to obtain in those countries as well if you are blind. I see that jade has posted quite a few replys, but I haven't read them, nor will I do, and this isn't a reply to his posts. The question you should be asking your selvs, of course is What is this forum for and whom it's for (and this is very important) in this context, at least. It's for discussions of games, specificly audiogames. But being a forum, It's not just limited to such, obviously. We have discussions on how to play mainstream games, to how to go about cooking, The way we carry out daly activities being blind, so on and so forth. and Until a year ago, We also could as we had done for years talk about How and where we being visually impaired watched movies and shows, Audio described, where such could be obtained etc. I am a man of simple words, and this is all I will say. Things are already so bloody hard, obviously more so for some of us than others, Why make them even harder. What we need to understand here is though, is a need for compromise. A Compromise that has already occured, to the extent possible. But of course certain people want to push, and push until they have things the way they want them to be, and unfortunately that is not how this forum has worked, and hopefully will not, either. We all should follow Rules and laws where ever possible, and in context of rule 3, it was being followed, of course. as layed down by you all, that being, No direct links etc, but Name dropping should be alright.goes without saying, but There comes a time when you need to stand up, and say, We've had enough, and won't stand for such no more. Believe you me, As long as people ask for it, and are not aware of the vault, I will drop the name, won't link out of respect, but that is the best I can do. Take out your claws. Aaron, as regards your second post, There can not be any DMCA issued what so ever against a website just because it's forums might have the name the piratebay for example. If that were the case, 50% of the websites along with their forums would not exist. Linking might be a different thing, but if name dropping can get a website in trouble, I have yet to heare about it. it's just the biases coming through. post 23, shrug true, but some admins along with a few handful of users are so against it, that it's not worth it (banging head against a wall) . as can be seen all over the forums. Re: audiovault, suggesting or asking for specific audiodescriptions Hi, I think cartertemm's stance on this seems to be the best we can ask for, better than nothing or filters at least. @OP and others, If you want to know if a movie or a tv show has AD, you can use the search feature on the vault (use the second edit field), if you don't find the title you are looking for on there, you can always write to us on our email (can be found on the homepage) If you know that a movie or a show has Audiodescription, you can ask for it to be added if we don't have it, and we will try our best to get it. Post 2 seriously mate, you went waayy OT and your posts don't really contribute anything to the topic at all, ask yourself this before you post next, and if you have any issues with someone, bloody well sort them out in private. AT post 7 and others of similar ilc/ thought, as much as you'd like to toot that it is a pile of copywrite infringements as you put it, it clearly is not. The best thing that can be said for it is it's in a legal grey area. When AD tracks aren't available everywhere, and for many countries and people site like ours is the only way to get or access to such material, I personally along with many think it's the right thing to do, considering how much of a big part movies and tv shows are a part of our culture out there. At Jade, and specially Liam (as I see him as the major one behind this trend of lableing AD tracks etc as illegal and not in a grey area in which it exists atm, as there are no clear laws for or against this sort of thing.) I do not wish for this to become a flame war, or a shit storm, and the comment which I have written above could very well be Construeded as such, so please remain calm and take these as just my thoughts opinions, just a bit more clear edged and not valed as usual. If I am indeed wrong, I apologise in advance. The post might also be all over the place, as I am not that good at expressing myself (for shame) XD, and due to traveling atm. Rule 3 basicly on most normal websites would be don't share links to pirated/ illegal materials, and even then it would worn people who direct linked to stuff, and hell, if you say we can't even link to a site's homepage that might contain illegal material, I say fine. although obviously mods could go easy on this one depending on the offence, I don't like it but I accept it. What is not acceptable though specially in consideration (refer post 24 on this topic), is filtering the word outright, because that is clearly going overboard (yes, mods have now taken off the filter, cheers for that), and not allowing users to even speak up names. The Number of similar topics that have cropped up in this room alone since the ban, should tell you what sort of a need is there for such a thing, and how many are aware and unaware of AD out there. The Audiovault has always been a community driven project, and most people that use it, helped in creating it, and insure its survival are from this community/ forum itself, so then no wonder why people wish to share it with others who ask for it or maybe are unaware of Audiodescription or the audiovault on here, issuing wornings to users on just that is clearly not done. At first, when you guys pushed for this copywrite change here, many including me were against a very hard/ strict stance, but still you decided to do it anyway. again, fare enough, to a certain extent I understood, did not like it, but kept up with it. You said, I don't like it, but we need to do this to present a clean and squeeky image, all well and good so far, Then slowly over time, I have seen a gradual push towards not allowing names, filter which hasn't been put for anything else out there, but the obvious spam, labling everyone pirates who use such service/ no good (in not so many words) s and so on. What this comes down to is, you need to take a step back, because clearly you have moved on from doing what needs to be done to extremism. Just in case if it is not clear, I do not ask for allowing links to be posted We wouldn't want Liam to threaten to quit the moderation panel, after all... again. (sorry, couldn't help myself there, Liam.), or a discussion thread specificly/ specially for the vault, but for reflection, allowing the blind and visually impaired users on here a right to discovery, no wornings at least when a user is creative and no direct or otherwise links are posted. Along the same lines, there are no dvd/ blueray or any sort of digital release that you could find AD on because there aren't any to be found. Because the studios can not be bothered to Add Audio description, and I'd go as far as to say a significant number of blind people don't even know that there's such a thing as audio description. There are a few organizations for the blind that might get a movie or 2 described if that movie is really really popular, but they are hard to get hold of after the initial rush. @vaibhavbhandari, you may understand the story, in a few cases sure, but that can apply to many movies even in hollywood, but you miss so , so much even then without AD. go and watch NH 10, and please help me understand that one and no cheating I have been fortunate enough to have a few sighted friends family members describe bits and pieces of movies when we are sitting and watching together, but it obviously isn't very detailed, but something is better than nothing, I always say. Without that help, and even with that help sometimes, I would have a major problem in understanding what exactly is going on in movies, and small details imagining which can make movies/ shows a lot cooler/ better.@blindgamer28, All of those movies you mentioned are on youtube with Audio description? will have to do a proper search after I am done writing this. Hi, The account system has been added to allow downloads because that way, we can see who's hogging the bandwidth the most, and initiate a cooldown so that everyone has a fare chance at accessing the server resources. I.E getting better speeds and so on. We won't sell your data, we don't really care, and to be honest I could have done without needing this system. Getting back to your question though, no account deletion is planned as of now, however if you are really worried about it, or for whatever other reason wish to have it deleted, write to me and I will do it manually. I ment to write earlier, but I have been dealing with some personal issues which have kept me from it. we did have a topic here where people could request things, others could write back or share which I could then upload for everyone else, but a few moderators decided against it, and so here we are. But I digress. The alternatives we have decided will allow people to write up their requests and such so that's covered, and Castlevania Season 2 is WIP and should be up on the vault in a few days. I would be more than happy to accept Audio described movies and tv shows, just upload them somewhere and pm me the links. All that I have to say on this is, there' are legalitys and then there is doing what's right. post 69, 70, and 90 thumbs up, pretty much why I started with the vault, and really if the admins/ moderators had asked me to remove the direct links from the bmmv topic, and just keep the link to the homepage there, I would have been very happy to comply. There are many countries where audio described content isn't available at all, and if you look on this page of the forum's room, you will see that many are not even aware that there is such a thing as audio described movies and tv shows, that they can access shows or movies with as much detail as their sighted peers and not be left wondering what the hell their friends are talking about when they talk about a particular movie or a show as there are details a blind person is very likely to miss when watched with no access to Audio description. perfect example Game of thrones season 8, episode 3. Re: Audio Described Content Hi, Yeah, I am leaning more and more towards a googlegroup that works more or less like a mailinglist or a forum if you wanted it to. Discord is good, but it has accessibility issues when it comes to managing, such as promoting demoting members. People have been after a subreddit or least that is what the votes say, but I am not familiar enough with it, and its a bit too public. Its not that I want to hide the vault so deep down under the water that its never found, but on the same hand, I don't want to get on the top of the towers and put up a banner or 2. Not for now, anyway, But who knows about the future. Whatsapp would be a huge no no, not just because it has the possibility of turning into a huge flud, but it would require people give their phone numbers away, which most users won't be comfortable with. May very likely end up setting up a few channels instead of just one, but that would mean that much more work for me where I am not working on getting new content or organizing what we have. Thanks at everybody for speaking up and supporting the vault, I was gonna say it earlier, but was too upset to put up 2 words together. This forum has been the only place I have frequented ever sinse I started using a computer, and it was the most comfortable place to be in, Where you could speak up without being hounded, fare was fare and right was right, and not just in the legal sense. Thank you sir, you are very generous. @RTT entertainment, The movie Forrest Gump has been on the vault for about 5 months now, it wasn't added recently, so you probably made a typo while searching for it, or were searching in the wrong section entirely. Thanks kool turk and CW for links and the info @simba, Thank you for those corrections but a few things have me a bit stumpt. Dark season 2 that was added recently is Actually English described with English audio, that said, we also have uploaded dark season 1 in English now. Dark season 1 that was previously there has been renamed to german described as it was is in german. The uploaders have been doing a great amount of hard work and getting all those shows/ movies. Many tv shows that have wierd names are also getting fixed, although when you download them they may still have that wierd name, which is easily fixed if you know how to rename. Thank you guys for the nice comments/ praze, your appriciation is a boost One thing I would highly like to stress upon though, is download what you want to heare/ and or something that you'd like to listen to, and don't just go grabbing everything, that puts a heavy load on the server, which isn't fare to the other users who may experience slow speeds etc.@je97, Thank you, like I said, I already have a backup in place, another is getting done slowly, and if anyone else is interested in being another backup as long as you have the space and the bandwidth for it, get in touch. and I highly doubt that a file on the server could've nuked your hdd, most of them are were from the blind mice tv shows from when they were still available. about the radio shows and drama content, Thank you for your generous offer there, But for now, I would prefer to stick to audio described tv shows and movies, once that's in order, we will see where to go from there on out. so I will definitely keep your offer in mind. @cw and omer, Thank you. We do have a considerable queue of files to be added, so if stuff that you have been asking for doesn't get added soon, do not fret. If audio description exists for the movies and shows requested, and if I or one of the other uploaders have mentioned that we might be able to get our hands on it, it will get to the vault eventually. Have run into a slight issue that's to do with linux and windows filesystem but I am sure we will work it out. Shows of note to have been added lately (just in case if you haven't visited the vault in a while) are agents of S.H.I.E.L.D season 5, good omens, society and so on. @RTT entertainment, a lot of questions/ concerns there let me see if I can answer/ help with a few of them. Thank you for your note about Wentworth, Which season is not described? is it all of them? In case 1 season isn't described but the rest are we usually try and keep that on. But yes, I could add that in the name as soon as you tell me which season is it that wasn't described. As for having description for each file that is movies and shows on there, the vault has ober 8562 different titles, and I myself don't fancy adding description by hand to all of them. IMDB integration is something that we plan on doing if we are able to, but most users just tend to google the movies/ shows if they don't know about them, so we have it on a low priority atm. About having certain show's season as a single zip file, Whilst I do see your point there, it would be inconvenient for almost everybody. I.E what if someone has season Y of a certain show, and wants only Season Z? and yes, cluttered folders and the like can be a pain in the arse, but you do know you can move your folders/ files around? so that they are no longer cluttering your computer/ hard drive. alternatively, you possibly could download all the seasons of a show you want, and zip them all up into a single file, again reducing clutter. BMMV is a donationware service that used to provide both movies and shows to everybody, but lately they have gotten rid of their shows and allow only people in the US access to audiodescribed content. Re: Whatsap access on Ios? Hi, Whatsapp is as accessible as it is possible to have an app I don't see any issues as such that you'd experience, and its farely simple to operate. The voice messaging feature is done by double tapping and holding down the voice message button which also acts as the send button when something is written in the chatbox. Thank you paul for helping us in keeping the lights on Been working on getting new content for you guys, but the back up has my internet pretty much tied up so its a little slow.@blindaudiogamer, Thank you, and I totally understand that not everyone has the money to be able to support us financially, one of the major reasons for the vault's existance today.@bollemanneke, the piratebay and the audiovault are a bit different, but yes, I do agree with you. and thankee for all your donations and support so far.@miki123211, I don't really want the vault to be all that discoverable, coughs what I mean by that whilst it would or ought to be easy enough to have someone else recreate the audiovault, I am in no hurry to have it taken down. But yes, reddit is something that's under consideration, and feel free to pass the link to the audiovault to such users/ posters if you come across such. I think I should set this as a prefix to all my posts @AlirezaNosrati, there's fun, and than there's being a troll and a dick, which my sir, you are. I wonder how many votes that'd get if I were to put up a pole... No matter how much I may disagree with a mods decision, this kind of thing isn't fun to me in any way at all. Put yourself in their shoes and have this be directed at you. No matter what they do, how they do it,and how much I agree or disagree with their decisions, they do all that they do out of their personal time and a pole on who's the most disliked isn't likely to end well, no matter on what side of the spectrem you may fall in on. Nobody likes to here how disliked they are, so you may like to do such things, but they aren't cool at all, and its people like you people with not an ounce of empathy for others and do things just because you think they might be fun or to stere stuff up for your own amuzement. Shout out at Matt Campbell for their very very generous donation, That should have many people watching ADV for a while. I have been backing up the server on my slow internet hence haven't updated you guys in a while, but couldn't wait to post the above before I had anything substancial to update you all with. The mailing list will be created soon, but I hope the Mods actually listen to the many users that have posted disagreeing with their stance, or at least ask richard and Sandarman and carry on, rather than just stick to The utter letter of the law without consideration for humanity. The copywrite trolls (I won't name any names here but looking at the topic I linked to ought to tell you who they are clearly enough) make me sick, But all the people that have supported the audiovault so far, by either speaking for it (which shows how strongly they feel about it), the shows and movies of course, without those the vault wouldn't be where it is today, and the financial support, without which we couldn't keep the server going and let everyone no matter where they live have access to ADV as long as they have internet.
