I just wanted to hop in here and state that for the record, I didn't just drop the hammer on the Vast Horizon soundpack all willy-nilly after simply getting wind that it was using other peoples' assets. Without all the boring and minuscule details, I had downloaded it for myself and combed through it, before investigating anything. The forum user here who claims to officially represent the game had also stated in the General Game Discussion topic pertinent to the MUD that they were fully aware of the fact that it contains assets taken from elsewhere. I then reached out to the creators and maintainers of Cosmic Rage's soundpack, who confirmed that yes, Vast Horizon's soundpack borrows multiple uniquely-crafted sounds from their own (without any sort of permission or even giving them credit). They made it very clear to me that they were not okay with this arrangement, and from what I understand they themselves have reached out to the Vast Horizon staff to rectify this issue on their own terms. Until such time that an agreed upon solution is reached, we elected to simply prohibit the discussion and sharing of Vast Horizon's soundpack from the forum, similar to how we would've done to any project found to be utilizing someone else's source code or basing their game off of an illegitimate fork. I'm honestly struggling to understand the difference between the two here. I can definitely understand how enforcement of this rule seemingly came out of nowhere for those who don't know what goes on behind closed doors, but believe me when I say that we have been attempting to tackle this issue for quite a while now. Heck, this topic has been on the table far long before Jack and I joined the staff team.Yes, I understand how some of you may feel about a decision such as this one. I understand because I myself was a user here for years long before I came on board as a moderator. And from a gamer's standpoint? I can agree with some of the opinions expressed here. Personally speaking, I still play Alter Aeon and Crazy Party (albeit not as often as I once did), because as a gamer it's not my responsibility to insure that every bit of entertainment I come across is using completely legitimate assets. I play these games to have fun just like everyone else, not to locate every single sound sample or mechanical operation that I've seen/heard elsewhere.From an administrative standpoint though, allowing the sharing of links to games and/or their resources that knowingly utilize stolen assets has the potential to not only make us look bad to outsiders or open up the door for potential legal issues down the road, it also does damage to developers on an extremely personal level. People have literally said "fuck it" and left this community because of how many times the code or sounds they took time to purchase/create have been lifted and used to create clones and forks. One of the more notable examples is Sam Tupy, who was targeted so often that he eventually snapped and completely removed himself from the forum because of how terrible the sheer amount of toxicity was making him feel. That's not something that we need to have happen again, ever. It is therefore my hope that the introduction and enforcement of these new rules and regulations will help to avoid similar occurrences in the future, while at the same time promoting originality and collaboration across developers and their projects. The developers' room exists for a reason, and the 2 sticky topics (conveniently enough) pertain to sound/music and programming resources.

After some deliberation, I have decided to post my application publicly. So here goes!  Hello,    I am interested in applying for the position of AudioGames.net moderator. Throughout my eight or so years as a user here, I've seen the forum go through quite a few phases. Unfortunately, this most-recent phase seems to have the demand for a significant increase in moderation. We've steadily been seeing an uptick in new users, which has also brought with it conflicts, concerns, and other tasks for the administration of the forum to take on.With that being said, I've been looking for an opportunity to give back to the community. Given that a roll such as this one would allow me to utilize my strengths, I feel that taking on this position would benefit myself (and the rest of the administration) well.  Strengths    My previous (and current) positions moderating and administering other platforms means that I've picked up ample experience in the job. I am able to competently assess situations, make appropriate decisions, and work as part of a team to insure that protocols are followed, questions are answered, and rules are enforced fairly and in an unbiased fashion. I believe that 1 of the most important assets for a moderator is their ability to put the enforcement of the platform's rules ahead of their personal feelings, and I am able to do so. Additionally, I have (on multiple occasions) played a part in tracking down and helped confirm multiple ban evaders. Namely, individuals such as Fighter2005 and Urh2006.  Weaknesses    On the contrary, a large portion of my membership here took place while I was younger and didn't handle situations in the ideal form. This sort of behavior had also resulted to 2 separate bans, the ladder of which was only recently lifted. However, a large part of that was attributed to the fact that my ban was put in place with no determined expiration date and when protocols were far less procedural. I also understand (and freely admit) that I may not always hold the most popular opinion, which has the tendency to turn people off at times. While I don't feel that this would inter fear with my ability to accurately moderate, it would be dishonest of me not to at least mention it in passing.  Level of Availability    Typically, a majority of my day(s) are spent at a computer in some capacity. Life can be (and has been) crazy for me, but I'm usually still able to maintain consistent computer access. If I had to give a rough estimation, I would say at minimum 6-8hrs a day.  Familiarity with Discord    I've been using Discord since early to mid-February, both as a user and as an administrator of servers. I am confident in my ability to reliably utilize and communicate through it. It may be somewhat more difficult when not at a computer given that the iOS app isn't the best when it comes to accessibility, but my constant use of a computer shouldn't make this a problem.  Fictional Scenario    Rather than simply recap my ideal string of actions, I thought it be best if I encapsulated a potential response in the form of a forum moderation post. I will proceed any inline comments with a //:**moderation:// Since the application didn't indicate whether or not Jill's period of community watch following her previous banishment has expired yet, I'm going to assume that it has.Jill, consider this an official warning. @Jayde: So many things that I could say, but I'll leave you with this:You don't have to be a 5 star chef to know that a meal sucks. You don't have to be an amazing artist to know that a song is bad. Please stop implying that those who aren't trance can't chime in with their opinions. This has nothing to do with being misgendered or disrespected, it's about someone disagreeing with a piece of text on an internet forum and making a big deal about it. I don't have to (as you implied it) be in Haily's shews to be able to comment on/disagree with what she's preaching about.

I'm honestly surprised that this has already ballooned to 30 posts. Welcome to 2020; where individuals make it their mission to be offended by words on the internet, and where administrators support such ridiculous behaviour.Haily, you may wish to ponder this: If you take things on the Internet this personally, I think it may be best for you (and your health) to consider taking a hiatus from your online life. At least until you're comfortable enough in your own "skin" to coexist on forums such as these without demanding that things be changed to suit your preferences.I do not think that the current title(s) should be changed just to conform to someone's absurd wishes. Whether or not they're relatively new, the fact remains that they represent a significant connection to a lot of games (some of which are historical), and changing them would defeat the purpose. Titles such as "Playroom Playboy" obviously have nothing to do with your gender. Please get over yourself. There are more important things to task yourself with worrying about. Like the fact that we need Donald Trump for 2020, so everyone go vote for him.

Thank you for the heartwarming reintroduction, Carter. It feels good to be back in some form or another. Now that I have more of a life and have picked up a few more years under my belt, I should (hopefully) be contributing to the forum in more of a positive manner.There's definitely been quite the increase in new faces since my banishment, so I look forward to interacting with you all!
