Depending on which builder is used you may or may not end up with a working result. This is no longer the case for Win Vista or up. Now I appreciate that the appeal for XP is still pretty strong, but my answer files work, and install clean to desktop in a VM. So Im all set. With xp though, you cant do this, as the installer is not compatable with newer versions of windows. So, the talking PE gets things started for you, the rest is easy. Im using an old computer as a media machine, running xp. Sure, its a nice thought, and if it works for you, great, but Id prefer something more … mainstream, that is actually guaranteed to work. Even if you have to destroy the contents of the disks to use it, its still better to get a guaranteed success with a script you know that works than be frustrated because some hardware isnt detected by the PE. If you have XP, the Win7 WAIK with SP1 will, in fact, build usable answer files for both Win7 and Win8. You will be missing out on some Win8-specific features, though, but nothing that makes it impossible to do an unattended install.
