I just recreated my character, this time a dwarf adept with 6 ranks in rapid healing and 2 ranks in increased reflexes, and I'm already almost at 20 karma from doing shadow runs after only about an hour of play. lol. The start of this game really is pretty easy.Kai

I don't wanna be on muds that don't have server side keep alive these days, because i'm tangled in manamon 2 and alternative magic. I'm still on alter, but usually to idle for the most part. But you folks will still see me pop on muds here and there from time to time, just don't play much since I multitask playing these two games like crazy and can't focus because the gameplay on these two is way too intense.Anyway, as I failed a run the other day, anyone know how to get pass the security in cedar crup? I needed to get a folder to some dr. bitch in there but i can't get pass them.

I've stopped using the magic system, and am now a sort of street samurai. i have brawling at above average. ur, good. I think that's all. I couldn't get any cybers because I only had 20k nuyen which i had to spend spairingly, but I've not played in like a few days or so

I myself don't really mind or care much about sounds. But I do have a habit of making soundpacks for whatever muds I play and actually stick with. It makes it easier and gives a bit of video/audiogame like feeling when I play. But channel history on mushclient alone does fine for me, with or without sounds.

It's interesting that so many people use the presence of sounds as a metric on whether or not they play a mud. It could be a boring, bland, stock mud, and as long as it has sounds, it would win over a highly detailed game with rich crafting, story, etc.I guess I'm an older school of mudder -- I've never needed sounds to play a mud. I've sometimes added sounds for notifying me of important things, and I might design sounds for certain activities, but sounds should be the sprinkles on the cake, not the cake itself.Kai

Good news: I've started to work on soundpack for this mud. After a quite unpromising while, not sure how long really, I'll hopefully be able to throw it around here so you folks can have fun. I just started it yesterday so it may take months or even a year to be functional. Too bad I can't add area loops to this one. Yeah, though I've always been bad at designing and statting out adept characters. Too bad it doesn't seem adepts can accept animal spirits in this version of Shadow Run. I know  a common theme with unarmed adepts in later versions is using shark bonuses.

I actually think adept would be much better at unarmed than street sam, since you've got a lot of powers like distance strike that let you hit with unarmed attacks from further away. There's also powers that improve your combat and dodge pools, and none of it is at the cost of essence, which is a scary thing when you're all rigged up with cybernetics and bioware and are running around with 0.5 essence. I really need to give this game another shot. I kind of enjoyed what I played, but sort of got a bit distracted by things.  Need to figure out the best way to setup an unarmed build, whether that be with adept or street sam. though street same is much better doing melee weaon things or guns.

I just started playing this mud today thanks to my awesome friend getting me into it. And all I can say is, besides the annoying prompt, it's epic. I may make a soundpack for it even after a while of sticking with the game, given that I do. The playerbase is kinda empty now sadly.I also won't rp with anyone until I get the bearings of both the mud and shadowrun. After that, anyone can rp with me however you want. Full mage is a ton of fun, really. I can avoid getting busted for carrying anything illegal, no cyberware, nothing, I'm the ultimate blending in expert. I can get good clothes and blend in without a gun but still be ready to go. Just got my guy a Colt American for backup reasons. And because I put points into pistols. I want to be able to do magic and gunfire at the same time, yeah...

I loved being an adept. They were so amazing. Never did try the pure magic builds. Was always either street Samurai or Adept. Tried rigger once and wasn't that into it. Tried decker too, but that's a profession that requires so much resources in the form of cash to buy improved programs and stuff. Wasn't much into that. Shotguns are beastly, by the way, as is a good assault rifle. Didn't like smg's and pistols much because of the dual wield penalties, whereas the two-handed guns gave you a bonus in accuracy, if I remember correctly.Kai

Because hey. Illusion spells are awesomely goodEDIT #2: THe setup process isn't hard. However certain clients don't display all the text correctly. If you think the priorities part is hard, you will /hate/ going through chargen and assigning skills and any/all attributes and any/all spells, too. That's always easier in the tabletop game.EDIT #3: For simplicity's sake. Do /NOT/ take any form of magic. Put that as your least important.Personally I'd go attributes, then either resources or skills. You can train skills with karma, but attributes are majorly important.I say don't do magic as it's majorly complicated. And read up not just the timeline, but how Shadowrun works in general. It's a whole complex set of rules. Okay, 3rd Edition isn't as bad as 5th Ed and 6th Ed is a clusterfuck with how they handled it, butstill.Magic works like this in Shadowrun. You got two or three main types. Then you have to follow a totem, let's use my Cat one as an example. He's cruel and uncaring and a fan of illusions, so I put points into that. Then I need to put pointss into other skills to use the magic, and attributes so I don't die when using the magic, then more points into skills to fit the whole hiding in alleys and cruel and alone theme (think dumping my points into stealth), then I need a backup plan, so I put points into firearms and driving, but then I need points forIn a nutshell. Magic's a pain in the ass to work with. But once you get a good setup, you are golden. For your first char, and I tell people this all the time in tabletop, keep it as simple as possible...avoid magic straight away, I'm going by my experiences on Shadowrun games and tabletop here.So, magic goes like this. I cast, let's say, shadow to hide myself breaking into a shop, however, that's a sustained spell so I need to first cast it.So I type cast shadow.Now the mechanics are rolling the dice in the background to se if I can sustain the spell or take drain damage, which does physical damage that ignores armor, as it's a special type of damage, if I really screw up, I am so dead, and my armor won't help. So I sustain the spell once. Now go back to the 'Can I sustain' bit, and do that every singl time I wanna sustain the spell.TL:DR Do not take magic right away. Do not bother with it at all for your first character, and be prepared for a ton of bullshit deaths in Shadowrun if you get screwed over by the systems in place. Make damn sure if you are going magic route to read and understand what you're gettting into.My usual Cat spell list is this:Stunbolt (for stunning enemies)Powerbolt (for attack)Shadow (for hiding)and max the fuck out of invis/improved invis and the stealth/silence spells. Add in heal for a backup plan if I run outta medkits, and...sorted. Give me a gun and ammo, too and I can be a stand in street samurai in a pinch.Oh and let's not forget confuse and chaos too. And summoning spirits as a full mageyeah see now why I said don't go magic initially?So how's magic useful?Example. I'm trying to break into the aforementioned store. Instead of casting shadow. I can astrally project myself into the store without triggering any alarms. But that has its own drawbacks.

I cast, let's say, shadow to hide myself breaking into a shop, however, that's a sustained spell so I need to first cast it.So I type cast shadow.Now the mechanics are rolling the dice in the background to se if I can sustain the spell or take drain damage, which does physical damage that ignores armor, as it's a special type of damage, if I really screw up, I am so dead, and my armor won't help. So I sustain the spell once. Now go back to the 'Can I sustain' bit, and do that every singl time I wanna sustain the spell.TL:DR Do not take magic right away. Do not bother with it at all for your first character, and be prepared for a ton of bullshit deaths in Shadowrun if you get screwed over by the systems in place. Make damn sure if you are going magic route to read and understand what you're gettting into.My usual Cat spell list is this:Stunbolt (for stunning enemies)manabolt (for attack)Shadow (for hiding)and max the fuck out of invis/improved invis and the stealth/silence spells. Add in heal for a backup plan if I run outta medkits, and...sorted. Give me a gun and ammo, too and I can be a stand in street samurai in a pinch.So how's magic useful?Example. I'm trying to break into the aforementioned store. Instead of casting shadow. I can astrally project myself into the store without triggering any alarms. But that has its own drawbacks.

Is there a screenreader mode for this Mud?During character creation, I was trying to get info on the races. Some had numbers, and some had letters. If you put a question mark with a number or letter, you were supposed to get info about that race. When I tried one of the letters, it just chose that race without ever telling me anything about it.I have also noticed that the score sheet has a lot of slashes and such.Just wondering if there are any commands to make things clearer.I looked through the toggle options, and didn't see anything there.

Haven't played this mud for years, so I'm not sure if my memory serves.Used to like this mud quite a lot, but it was quite easy to lose all your stuff. I once drove a car down a freeway and my vehicle got shot by some elven bastards. So, my car was wrecked, I was dead and all my stuff was somewhere in the middle of that freeway. As I couldn't go on a freeway on foot, I was in quite a bad situation. Of course I could have asked someone to retrieve my stuff, but for some reason I didn't do that and I rage quitted instead.That happened about 8 years ago. I Tried to play it briefly about a year ago, but didn't have enough time and willing to start all over again.However I quite liked the futuristic concept.

I haven't played that mud in a while, but I think for cash you could get jobs from people in dante's inferno? I think it was called.You can either walk, or taxi there. Which I believe was free until a certain point, not sure exactly when that was though.

Sup.I went to the tmc website, and searched for magic, as i was looking for HP theamed magic muds, or something similer to it. What I found, however just made me log off in about 2 minutes, as I didn't find anything interesting accept for 1, awakened worlds.It held my attention for some time and still does. It doesn't have playerbase at all. I did find one, but he was dead or something. For now, I do think it is a great mud, and there has been no issues. Some might not like it, some might. If you are hit enough by an npc, or even a player, you can be knocked out. Basicly, while you are knocked out you cannot do anything, and the monsters won't outright kill you, so if you manage to get enough health and mana which I've not been able to, you'll be fine but hurt. You can also stun npcs with hits, though you have to hit them repeatedly to kill them and they wake and charge you when some time has passed.So Far, I've not found a way to increase those 2, but i just think i should've trained my body more.Magic systemThe magic system here is a bit different. You can be a samurai or someone who uses their fists well. I find my self really not knowing as i use all 3. You can wield katanas and wear armored clothing, or firearms. The npcs actualy act in certain situations. There is a system of legal and alegal which is actually law. So if you were holding/wielding a katana, you would be shot by a police guy. I've died more than once to that. You can determan the legality by typing exam object if you have the police procedures skill.technology.Technology has improved greatly. If you have the skills, you are able to connect your mind to most technologies. Vehicles, Computers and even hack most things. Your awareness will however be intirely to the technology world, and i think you are able to be attacked by hostal npcs.You can also attack with technology, perhaps send out a bunch of remote drones armed for combat to conquer or kill. I don't know mutch about combat or mutch yet. You are also capable of programing things, Which I've not tried as I'm a mage.Taxies
