Re: Blind college students, what kind of part-time job do you have?

I would recommend checking against your university's resources like the disability services office, different academic departments, and, if your university is anything like mine, there is a general job-postings site you can access as a student. The nice thing about working within the university is that you more than likely won't run into discrimination issues (I say more than likely because nothing is guaranteed in life). I looked into this myself a year or so ago and found different prospects ranging from receptionist work to lab/tech assistant. A lot of these jobs are relatively menial because these positions are geared towards students, so it allows you to make some quick cash while also doing some homework. My one roommate uses that time to do exactly that, so these jobs can actually be more beneficial than just the pay.

Re: Blind college students, what kind of part-time job do you have?

If you have to work during college (something I don't recommend if you don't have to, unless it's with a flexible internship,) try to turn the advantage in your direction and aim for things that are income-generating tools right now but that will also be career steps for you in the future. Nowadays life is too fast-pace and immediate for college kids to be wasting their times in traditional kid jobs like servers, so don't fall into that trap if you can stay out of it. Of course if you're driven to work by necessity then all this is negated, but if you're doing it purely out of a want rather than a need, you have the option to be flexible so you can use this flexibility to remain laser-focused on future prospects.

Re: Blind college students, what kind of part-time job do you have?

Hi.My well, job is partly a job I got through relations. I'm helping part time at a horse stables sometimes during the week, so lugging hay bales, cleaning, taking horses out to pasture or back to their stalls and so on, also fixing the computer in the office sometimes when something goes crash, that machines really old. Results in free riding lessons and money from time to time, not that much, but good to be able to entertain yourself at the weekends.Greetings Moritz.

Re: Blind college students, what kind of part-time job do you have?

I agree with post 4. If you can, try putting yourself out there at job fairs, internships, etc. Anything you can do to further your experience in the field you decide to pursue is good. I was lucky in that I had an internship starting right out of high school and then went on as fulltime about Sophomore year of college. This was a software development position. Not sure if you are still into coding, but if you are, some advice I can give is that try to build up a good online portfolio of projects and you won't struggle too much to get a job when you finish.

I've experienced coding, engineering, internships, web accessibility, tester and transcription. I strongly recommend going out a lot; you may be able to connect with many fantastic people there.

Re: Blind college students, what kind of part-time job do you have?

For me, as a college freshman, I'm just trying to make the transition into college as seamless as possible, so I don't have a job yet, but I'm looking for ones to start off of next semester. I'm probably going to do something tech support related (I'm not totally sure though). Sorry about not really answering your question.

Blind college students, what kind of part-time job do you have?

Hi guys,I am a sofomore in college. I am looking to get a part-time job both for the experience, and for a bit of extra spending money. I know there are a lot of blind people here like myself, and several of you have worked and been in college. What has your experience been / where do you recommend I look? Thanks!Edit: I'm not too particular in terms of where it is, though I'd prefer to work at a grocery store or some other environment where - I may have to serve customers, but not serve food to them.
