Re: Cleft of Dimensions: Anyone played it?

@benamas, there are two main clients peopleuse, Vipmud, read  about it here  and Mushclient, read about it here I use Vipmud myself. I have been reading some of the game site and I really should give this a try. Having grown up in the nineties with limited vision, I was fortunate enough that the consoles around at the time and the sort of games around were far more  friendly to my level of sight than the 3d, 32 bit era,  since many complex games like the Turrican games, mega man series, Metroid, Kirby etc could be played quite successfully by me without need to read the text (I'd have loved to play Zelda or secret of mana but unfortunately not). I actually really miss the days when I could play a lot of mainstream games, especially when I could get online and be able to read up on the plots, characters etc (I got q
uite into the hole story of the mavarik wars and sigma virus in the x and zero games). So methinks Cleft of dimentions is something I'll personally rather enjoy .

Re: Cleft of Dimensions: Anyone played it?

Likewise, I actually was having a look at the game's wiki the other day and thinking I should give things another try now that I have a little more space for playing games. Thanks for the commands benamas.I don't know if my character got purged but I should probably restart anyway since I  exactly remember where I was.Btw It's a little odd reading this topic now since Mrs. Dark and I are coming up to our first anniversary. Things are still absolutely wonderful, but I can't deny that sorting out a trans atlantic wedding which had to happen three weeks from my arrival in the States since we needed to submit Uk application visas was quite a nightmare! Still the  wedding was wonderful involving everything from a rather Cinderella style coach to playing of the themes from Cocoon and Jurassic park not to mention actual singing from my lady and I (us being both trained classical singers), even if we did have to rewrite p
retty much the entire service from scratch to avoid the priest inserting a hole bunch  blarney about the woman being queen of the home and the man being the hunter probably sounded old fashioned in the 1950's . Still it all worked out as absolutely amazing, --- and that goes not just for the wedding, but also our life together (I've not quite got Mrs. Dark into mudding yet, but she does love tabletop rp). Anyway oh yes, what were we talking about? Oh cleft of dimentions, --- I'll see if I can head back and give things a try since I really do fancy those quests and as someone who still has a Snes and many games (it's sitting about two feet from me right now the theme definitely appeals to me, I hope metroids make an appearance.

Hi Lads, sorry for taking over a year to even see this thread, i'm one of the admins for CoDs and i've been deployed overseas in the navy but i'm getting back in the saddle nowi've recreated the 'exits' command, and added 'glance' (which only works right when 'brief' is on, at the moment)i've also made the 'resistances' command give a no-ascii version when the player has 'brief' mode on, since the ascii table readout is probably not extremely helpful i'm EXTREMELY interested in adding more accessibility features for vi players; i'll be working on making no-ascii alternatives for commands like 'who' and 'score' in the near future, as well as adding alternatives to ascii maps and art and colored text highlightingi know i'm necromancing this thread pretty badly but i'll be monitoring it for more suggestions in the future (or feel free to

Re: Cleft of Dimensions: Anyone played it?

@OboyoJinsaka, thanks for the reply. I've not had time to try more of the game sinse I've just got engaged and started living with my fiance and planning our wedding (as well as sorting out visas and things), so mudding is less up on the priorities list right now. As to show exits, I personally do like a show exits command sinse usually what I do is read the description of a place then do what I need to do there (unless I've run into an agro mob and need to fight), I also rather like the glance command for the same reason. I'm not into having brief turned on sinse I prefer both for atmosphere and for finding my way to see the description when I enter a new room, though the "glance" command essentially just gives the same info as the brief view when used even when showing descriptions normally.I'll also add that prompt wise, sinse the prompt keeps being spoken having exits spoken with every single action, such as picking
up an object or speaking to a character can be something of a pest hence why I like the info individually. I'm not sure though if this is an access thing or just a preference thing on how i play, eg, I do know people who run around constantly in brief mode and rarely read long descriptions.

Re: Cleft of Dimensions: Anyone played it?

Hello everyone, I hope this post isn't old enough that I'm necro bumping so I apologize if I am. I just wanted to help clear a couple things up since I've played this game for a long time."Btw, two commands I would like to see as a vi player are firstly, the ability to show exits in a room so you don't have to reread the entire description just to find the directions on where to go, and secondly the ability to see what enemies/objects are in a room to interact with, ie, the glance command in most games."1. There is a prompt token that can be used to show available exits, but sometimes exits are secret because they are hiding quest related areas. 2. There is a scan command that will show enemies and in some cases, objects which are coded as enemies so that they can be interacted with. Unfortunately, obtainable items don't have a glance command, but one could "get all" then just drop the obtained item afterwards if desired. If it's nighttime, you can still see those things in the same room you're in but not in nearby rooms because it's dark.Until very recently, one of the dumb admins 'locked' the game's Brief mode a long time ago because he somehow thought that would force people to read the room descriptions. A new player would have to get an admin to set Brief to them. Thankfully, the option can now be toggled freely and I just tried it out myself, I wish I had it a long time ago.As far as ASCII artwork goes, this MUD does have a handful of it but it's generally for cosmetic purposes where only one quest in a Level 60 area requires it (which I can easily write a substitution for, an immortal would just have to implement it). With the exception of a few town maps, the other maps in the game are more like a segmented world map, which is why they are in ascii. There is a mini-zone at Level 70 and one at Level 90 that use ASCII descriptions (a frozen over lake and a Mario Bros 2 style area, both are only about 8 rooms big), but both still use typical exit directions. If I can get an immortal to do the help files for me, I'll ask them to copy the "Travel" section of the wiki I've pasted at the bottom of this post. I've been doing a lot of work on it over the past couple months to help people find places. The introduction quest can actually take you to three different guard outposts, not just the one that's south. One of them involves the Runaway Five referenced above, one involves the Imp King also referenced above, and one not referenced above sends you through Rabite Forest to find some kids.As for killing...I wouldn't call the game a killfest, but 90% of the quests in the game don't reward experience so one would have to kill things as they explore new areas to grow rather than solely questing. There is a balance and when I was newer, I'd find myself gaining the levels I needed as I bashed my head on the wall trying to figure out some of the more difficult quests. There's a "bodycount" feature that slightly reduces the amount of experience gained by tracking enemies that have been repeatedly killed to encourage variety and exploring areas of a similar level. Some secrets don't even show up on the 'quests' list so there's always something neat to find for the curious adventurer. If anyone ever has any questions, you're more than welcome to ask over OOC or through tells. If we're not at work or idling, one of us will be more than happy to help. My primary characters are Dusk, Oboyo, and Caspio if you'd prefer to ask me specifically. I apologize again if this post is too old to be replying to.http://wiki.cleftofdimensions.net/index … gory:Areas

Re: Cleft of Dimensions: Anyone played it?

Well I had a look at this one, decided to try a reploid knight called Tao (well being a mega man fan what else would I choose?). I love all thee snes style races, and little touches like the mushroom blocks, however oddly enough given DD's question, I'm finding the killing pretty intensivg, sinse the first quest I got given I have no directions at all, am level 3 and have already murdered lots of imps just wandering around trying to find the imp king, (the only unique things I've found so far are some blackberries and some rocks I can't interact with), which is okay as far as it goes (I've got more of truce canyon to explore), but unexpected for a game that bills itself as having hundreds of quests to do and not being a pure kill fest, sinse a kill fest is just what I'm finding so far. I'm not saying this is a dead loss, just that it's not as unique as I expected, though admitedly I've hardly played for that long. Tw
o things I do like though however, are 1, all the levels have the same xp cost, meaning that if you fight at areas of the right level you should always advance at a roughly similar rate (I much prefer games with constant advancement than games where you have to grind for increasingly long periods), and 2, I love the fact that stats are actually trainable up to a limit, meaning you can max out your character's base stats with training sessions, sinse I always would rather advance than have a decision at character creation restrict me perminantly.I don't know how much extra I'll play this one, but we'll see. Btw, two commands I would like to see as a vi player are firstly, the ability to show exits in a room so you don't have to reread the entire description just to find the directions on where to go, and secondly the ability to see what enemies/objects are in a room to interact with, ie, the glance command in most games.

Cleft of Dimensions: Anyone played it?

2016-01-13 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — General Game Discussion : Orin via Audiogames-reflector

Cleft of Dimensions: Anyone played it?

Hi everyone,Recently i just started playing this mud, and it's pretty cool. The setting is pretty cool, which is a whole bunch of things from various retro video games. The game is primarily quest and exploration based. Hack and Slash too if you want to, which is required to grind for doing quests at a higher level if you need to be at a higher level, but that's all I do it for.Typing quests gives you an overview of quests in a specific area and gives you general hints on what the quest is, but not who gives or how to start it. I was the victim of doing the first quest I came across, which happened to be the boss of the area I was in and isn't recommended not to be completed until level 5. The "Have you encountered the "Runaway five"? should've been a dead giveaway, but I didn't know that in this case the five meant level five lol. There are some other quests that level 1-2's can do however. Another thing, one of the pl
ayers and the admin said that the maps that are available are for cities etc, you can just use the map command. Of course these are Ascii, and the admin told me that it wasn't worth adding helpful maps for us when so much of the game, he said, everyone, not just us, is left to their memory for getting around areas. The tutorial is also nice and adds a nice touch to the video game setting. Most of the tutorial takes place inside a NES, which you are of course sucked into, where you play Punch Out and learn about combat. Combat is pretty unique. Unlike, say, alter Aeon, where a pack of something is just one mob, here, it can be, wel, a group. If one member of the pack is doing more damage than the others, you can target them to hopefully defeat them first. This is explained in Punch out when one of the NPCs will shield him from your attacks. Then you have to target the person to defeat him. Most of the tutorial is combat, and it teaches you a bit about questing as well,
though the game does give players the freedom to do both. Seems they put extra work into these quests though. Another great thing for screen readers: NPCs that have dialogue trees, when the NPC says something, the game will say something like:"You think to say, "So how's the weather today?""You think to say, "Do you have any work?"Of course, none of those are in the game, but the game will give you context help based on each conversation you have, either to start a quest or provide information about one.Spoiler Alert: You can also just randomly stumble upon quests. Going north in Azgard city center gives you the "Runaway Five" quest, where you serve community service for attempting to swim in the fountain. Since the guard just simply tells you to look for the 'P' on your map, like any video game, the direction is south. You'll find a guardpost somewhere south. So, I hope this gives you enough i
nformation to check it out. Connection info:Cod.mudmagic.com 4354Enjoy and hope to see some of you on there at some point! I come on at random times, so it's likely I won't actually see anyone from this community if you stop by. The playerbase unfortunately isn't very large.

Moderation! Sinse this is a newly discovered mud, I moved this topic to new releases to let people know more about the game. One thing I'd be interested to know is, how are the descriptions? One of my problems with a lot of stuf based on old computer games is that they always go the "you see Mario", or at most "you see a man in blue and red overals" route without saying much or really using the text. I'd also be interested to know what sorts of classes are available in thegame. I'm taken up with classic 6 dragons at present, but I might check this out in the future sinse it sounds fun.
