@Hadi, yeah, bookrage is correct, you want tough fights, Erion has them, just wait until you see bosses or try the colosseum on hardcore, but the difficulty is intended as to be relaxed at the start to let you gear up and so on.I haven't been to the high tower of sorcery either yet, I can't remember what level area that is though, I just finished fully exploring all of Carg Ruins and the old reactor, actually there are two areas that really should have missions and storylines, indeed old reactor has sort of a built in one with a reward. @Meatbag, I'm always up for more variety in autoquests and expeditions, so nice ideas there, however also bare in mind that the games' missions are far more interesting, and many of them can be repeated. For example, in crafter's  forge there are several missions that require crafting of objects or finding resources through foraging, and those missions are almost intended to be repeated, indeed right now I'm repeating Lira's basket mission to practice my weaving skill.

hi,i'm level 39, its maybe I havent seen enough or i'm rightI think the quest system needs some cair, right now its you just have to go kill something or go grab somethingit'll be cool if say, a quest needs you to get item from some mob and give it to the other, and that other will give you an item which you return to the quest giver for your rewardor a combination of both, you go kill something, than bring its corpse or anything of its body back to the giveror simple crafting quests, a quest requires crafting an item to help building a building or something, anyways, it should be simple like just requires very low resources that you could get from everywherecant think of more sorry

it is relatively normal to do ungodly amounts of damage early in the game and most chracters can one-shot most enemies below level 11 without needing to take a second shot with their primary mode of atack. That will change and fights will get both tougher and more complex as you level.I haven't been to the high tower of sorcery so can't help you there.

I actually have a question about this mud, possible spoilers might be required in the answer.Lots of time when I'm given quests, they want me to go into the high tower of sorcery.How am I supposed to do that? I always get lost in the maze, and I can't seem to find any sort of pattern to it.

I gave this mud a try, seems to be fun; however, I had a complaint. I am not sure if i am right or not but  it seems like balance might not be the focus of the mud. I am level two thief and my throwing stars does 50 to 60 damage to mobs, can one shot level 15-20 mobs with them. perhaps it's a feature of the throwing star but it kind of put me off.

@Hadi, you can have two classes. It's usually wise to go for one melee class and one caster class, rather than two of one sort, my first character I went archer/thief which did not work well, with my current character I have a monk illusionist which is working much better. Each class also gets one of three subclasses to specialise in as well with their own unique skills.From what I've seen, classes are pretty unique, some share skills, like monks and warriors both getting the kick skill, however they get a lot of fun buffs and specialisations as well, EG archers can scan for monsters and objects two rooms away, illusionists can literally become near invisible and sneak around high level zones without getting attacked etc. This is one reason I like the fact that a bunch of achievements have currently been added to the game to reward people for creating characters of different classes and races and getting them to legend status.

@crescent, also remember that crafter's forge is a dwarven settlement and most of it is underground, also like the most famous dwarf city of all, the one from the hobbit, it has a hidden door, find that area and you should find all the people you need to learn crafting missions. @Mirage, you'll eventually find the missions in Santa's sanctum if you hunt around for them, then you'll need to do more hunting around to complete them since that area has a lot of hidden stuff, something so well hidden I don't think anyone accept one player has found it yet .Elve's gone wild has rogue elves all over the mud who have stolen ornaments from the Christmas tree at recall, find them and beat them up to recover the lost ornaments, then hang the ornaments on the tree for rewards. Event list will tell you all about events in the mud, and event info number will tell you about a specific one, I believe for elves' gone wild it's event info 23, though  I might have that number wrong.

Thank you guys for your ideas and feedback so far! I especially love the idea of implementing some co-op events, where you work together with other players to achieve a goal, and also adding more chain storyline missions. Some day we'll definitely take a look at writing up some for Dragon Tower! The chain storylines take a long time to do, but it's something we're working on getting into. Kextra and I are building a newbie area that will have a storyline and more guidance - start mission A, then go to B, C, D, and so on, until you've completed the storyline for the area. I'll post more about that here when it's all done

a lot of missions later on are more story-based. They still don't have a chain but the stuff you see in hillock hills in not really representative of things I have seen elsewhere. Try looking at undersea shipwrecks, an area that is hidden and see what comes of it. It is low-level but has more involved and puzzle-based quests.

Don't worry, I knew rp wasn't a part of the game, I just figured its something I should say so that the hosty who reads knows what kind of a player I typically am, so they know how to interpret my feedback.  I would rather give too much info, rather than not enough. I'll try the crafting and see how that works out. I agree with @20. I think that's part of why it just feels so grindy for me. I like having a reason for doing something, even a basic one, and I mean more than just because I'm told to.

Me, personally, I think I'd like this game more if it was a bit more story-driven. Having missions that just ask you to perform x number of quests is just another stock quest, basically, and I don't find that especially interesting. Also, explore x number of rooms? Same deal.That being said, I'm well aware that story-based stuff is way, way harder to do most of the time.Alter Aeon is an example of a mud that gets this right in a lot of cases. Talk to an NPC, go into a dungeon, fight for awhile, look for stuff, kill a boss, get loot, come back, talk to NPC, he wants you to go talk to someone else who sends you someplace new.I like that sort of story chain thing, and it's rare in MUDs.

@Mirage, yeah the minigames are fun, I am pretty terrible at the scrambled phrase ones, but I have enjoyed playing a round or two of hangman . Actually as someone who enjoys crafting, you might like some of Erion's crafting options, I particularly like the way you get crafting missions where you're specifically tasked to make an item and get rewarded for doing so.When I finished in the newbies house, I was stuck on where to go, but after some thought finally joined the artisans house, since that way I can get rewarded with house points every time I gather resources or craft items. Luminati and slayers were also tempting, and if Luminati got rewarded for exploring new rooms I might well have chosen them, but with me enjoying to intersperse my combat with crafting, Artisans house was just too tempting.

@crescent, roleplaying isn't a thing in Erion, though there are things to solve, and unlike many other games, the things to solve are actually solvable . Actually I'd like to see more missions added for some of the zones that don't currently have them, especially some of the really interesting ones like dragon tower.For crafting, go to crafter's forge, you can find lots of crafting missions there that will teach you the abilities. Collecting crafting resources can still get grindy, but the random nature of those resources, plus the need to calculate for projects imho keeps things interesting, since you never know for example when you'll come upon a rare gem or a magic seed which you can go and plant.@Bookrage, good ideas on cooperative daily events, though also bare in mind, that many classes get abilities to sneak or hide or otherwise go around untracked, and with the lack of agro mobs, exploring higher level areas  isn't automatically a death sentence as long as your careful. I won a treasure hunt myself at level 20, indeed in treasurehunts particularly everyone gets a boost if treasures are all collected so any treasures you turn in help.The only reason I don't participate in those events as often myself, is that they're just in the wrong time zone for me, and unless I'm playing at about midnight, they don't tend to run when I'm on the game.Btw, my character is thile, if anyone was wondering.

RP  isn't a huge thing in Erion,  so unless that is a huge thing among your immediate group in the game, it won't really be a thing for you as is. Erion is more casual, like aardwolf.as for events I'd like to see. I like dailly events that aren't necessarily PVP. For example, I like Speed-fishing much more than first catch. The dailly events are in many cases largely skewed in favor of high-level, high-stat players. That is okay, but it limits what low-levels can accomplish in dailly goals.for example. The treasure hunt games send players all over the world. Many of those areas are too dangerous for low-level players to hunt for treasure in safely, and thus more of the treasure is likely to fall to high-level players. I like dailly events that are fun and still have prizes and challenges, but I'd like to either see co-op events where for example, players need to catch a certain number of fish total, kill a certain number of randomly-spawned scale-level monsters that appear all over the world, do a certain amount of total damage to something, or something of that sort. Prizes would be based on participation and how well the group does as a whole. For example, if the players kill 100 monsters in the world-monster hunt, (whatever those monsters are going to be) they get a better prize than if they only killed 50 total. It would require adjustments though as many players would not want to take part. So perhaps signing up a few minutes early, and the numbers that would come up would be based on what number of players sign up.

I'm Abrial for those interested.I think part of why I feel it to be very grindy is that I tend to prefer roleplay to hack and slash. That said, I very much prefer roleplay when its not just me and a small of group of others doing it, rather, its the basis of what you do, and everything else just adds to it. So, with that said, I think i'm going to look more into crafting, as that is something I've always loved doing, on any game. Is there a certain level you need to be to craft? Or class? I'm just not a very talkative player, so maybe I'm missing things there too. I'm also only level 2, so haven't really seen how the abilities are any different from other muds, so I can't really speak to that, but I do like that for some areas you have to figure out how to get there. I love having things to solve. Probably why I love the unscramble game so much.

What for me makes Erion less grindy than other games is the choice of things to do, the random stuff that turns up from bunnies to sigils to daily events and contests, combined with the differences in play style between classes, and the over all balance of when classes get new abilities to play with.In so many games I've seen, it's basically just a question of throwing different abilities at your target, where several of Erion's actually require you to pay a bit more attention, EG the monk's wind pipe ability.yes, if you just kill and wait for your quest and expedition timers to run out, you'll get board quickly, but when you intersperse this with the various crafting activities and repeatable crafting missions, not to mention fishing and alchemy, things pick up quite a lot, that's one reason why I personally have played Erion a lot more since the none combat activities have been added, since variety is good, and heck I haven't even tried alchemy yet .Not all missions involve killing mobs, many of the starting ones in hillock hills do, but you'll find differences the further you go.As I've said before, I'd most like to see more incentives to explore the different areas of the game, with rewards for checking new rooms and fully exploring zones, as well as adding missions for earlier zones that don't currently have them, since there are several areas that are just interesting to wander around in.I also really like the way gardening gives you something extra to think about while your off doing something else, so other activities which you could essentially set going and then occasionally need to return to might be nice, especially when combined with exploring out in the world. Raising your own pets/mounts/livestock could be pretty cool, finding different foods for them in the wild, breeding different animals etc and of course having to occasionally feed, train and play with them, then maybe either using them yourself, selling them off or sending them to work somewhere.and after all, who doesn't want to train their own dragon?Some sort of cooperative crafting project all players could join in with would be nice too, EG building siege style defences against occasional demonic invasions, or working together to build a huge monolith which gave some game wide benefit when complete, but was way too big for one person to do alone. Just throwing out random thoughts .

I will say, It does feel like a very grindy game. I'm mainly hanging round to let the quest and expedition timers run out, unless I'm missing more to do. Most of the missions i'm seeing at my level are to do quests and kill monsters.

@Bookrage, I believe the archer ability lets you make your own arrows, though don't quote me as my character is a monk so obviously I've not tried it yet.Achievements are exactly as you might think, you get rewarded for doing things like completing so many quests, crafting so many items, playing for so long, catching so many fish, finishing the monster colosseum on different difficulties etc. They do add a fun aspect to the game and something to aim at.

So when I last tried this mud, I remember the combat messages being very nondescript. I think that's what turned me off from playing, has this changed, or is there a way to change it? I'd like to see that I'm attacking with a bow, or unarmed attacks, for instance.

Hey all! Thank you for the feedback. I'm reworking the soundpack so that the sounds are grouped into categories: effects, music, and ambience. I'm also converting all the .wav files to .ogg so the pack will be smaller, and adding a volume option that will allow you to adjust the volume overall or for any of the 3 categories. We're also going to release the soundpack as a portable mushclient zip so there won't be any issues with installation, just unzip and play. I will make a new update on here when that's ready! Thank you so much for giving the MUD and the first version of the soundpack a try. I hope the second one will be a big step up from my first attempt ~ Aelyn

HiWhat plugins do I need to be able to propperly play this? I have all the plugins needed for the soundpack, as well as mush reader and output functions, but I'm still having a few issues and some things aren't reading properly, for example, after I hardly got passed the account creation system I tried to create a new character on my newly created account, it first said what would it be, I thought it was actually asking for the name, so I wrote it and hit enter, then it asked me for the name, I got confused but I wrote the name again anyway, pressed enter again and nothing happened, it wasn't responsive whatsoever and I had to close mush client, I tried to connect on VIP MUD, connected, logged in to my account and the character creation went very smoothly, as soon as I typed c and hit enter to create a new character, it immediately asked for the character's name, unlike mush client, so I don't know if mush is actually confusing texts or what's exactly happening, because when I was creating my account, after I entered the password, it said reenter password but then immediately said choose a security question, and it confused meany help would be appreciated

@21They're a very nice set of people who do actually take feedback into account, but this is sort of just one of the places they advertise to because nowadays it's one of the places you need to advertise to if you want to run a mud.  It's a good mud though, if I'd found it 5 years ago when I wasn't jaded and mostly over muds I'd probably be playing it all the time.

Hi,Ok, so ...some constructive feedback.This is already a really good start in my opinion. There's music, ambiences, sounds for various things, but I think we can do better.- First, I'd say that rather than toggling a single sound off and on, it'd be better to categorize them so people can choose to toggle all music, all ambience, all combat sounds etc.- Depending on how much time and effort you want to stick into this, you could make the soundpack more immersive by adding individual sounds for skills. That way, you can gag the lines of text that skill output and have it replaced by the sound, either completely or partially.- Right now, the soundpack is over a gigabyte, even though there is only 153 sounds in it. That is because all sounds, including long-lasting ones like songs and ambiences, are in .wav-format which in this case I would call a bit of a waste of disk space. While it is true that compressing the audio would make them lossy, a high enough bitrate for these mp3's or ogg files should be more than sufficient for game sounds like this. I do not know the limits of MSP, but I do know mush is about to work with these formats and other packs, like the yugioh soundpack over at https://github.com/timtam/yugioh-soundpack which, although slightly non-standard, does manage this.- When you do things like ambiences, music etc., like someone here already pointed out, it feels a bit more natural when these ambiences and music follow the area or roomtype you're in. If you can hear crickets while you're in a cave that is a bit odd.I'd say keep up the good work, see if you can incorporate any of this going forward Zersiax

one think I don't like about the soundpack is that make you have to read sapi to read chats. and also it is way to huge but in fact there is not much sounds. ambiance isn't working properly too, you have to wait for the current ambiance to finish before playing another even though you already switch room.

There seems to be a problem with the pack where when I downloaded it and extracted the file and launched the exe file, I get an invalid path error and I can't launch  the game because the mud doesn't launch like its supposed to.

Hi@7 Thanks, I added it and it worked, here's an other question thoughWhen I used to play Alter Ian, there used to be an output log I can view by pressing control tab, unfortunately Alter Ian had a set up file that installed the mush client and everything required for the game so I don't really know how to do things, I'm more used to VIP MUD. I've also noticed a few random characters thrown my way a long with welcome to erion such as random @signs and other letters. Is there a way to get rid of that?Once again, thanks in advance...Edit I've tried to create an account, but I don't seem to be able to type the password, after I type it and hit enter it just asks me to enter it again, and it keeps doing that no matter what I do. Dark, as far as slower levelling, there are several items to help enhance xp, especially from some of the lower level missions. There's also a character that will buff you up with holy symbol to help get Xp too, and hardcore mode also awards more XP, so there are definitely ways to do it.Hope all of you guys like the game. Nope, Erion is a pure text mud, but its a rather fun one, its got a lot of random hack n slash but enough extra to keep matters interesting, EG random loot, scrabble tyles guess the word games, a monster coliseum to fight in, Hogwarts like houses to join global contests that are actually possible to win etc. Also, some great adaptations to make it more screen reader friendly, for more see Erion's db pageMy only problem personally was that levelling was a we bit slow, but when I last went on the game had had a huge redesign, so huge in fact I was having trouble picking things up from where I was, though I probably ought to look things over especially since hopefully we'll see new missions etc soon.

Erion Mud New Area Update: Crow's Bay

For those who are familiar with Erion, I'd like to announce the launch of a new low level area called Crow's Bay. Plans are also in the work for several new zones in the near future, and staff are working hard to roll out tantalizing content for new and experienced players alike.For those who are not familiar with Erion, it is a rather large, immersive mud with 17,982 rooms and still growing. There are lots of features, and staff are open to new ideas. Whether you're interested in hack'n'slash, exploration, questing, word games, or any of a number of other activities, Erion has it. Loot Scrabble tiles from corpses and turn in mud related words for great rewards, pick up chocolate, vanilla, and golden bunnies off the ground for various rewards, participate in word games like Guess the Phrase and Scramble, enchant equipment or enhance it with runes, participate in missions (area specific quests), quests, expeditions (like quests but with multiple targets), global quests (like Expeditions, but in competition with other players and with greater rewards), test your metal in the Monster Colosseum for awesome prizes, test it even further by playing in hardcore mode, and all that is the tip of the iceberg.If any of these features sounds interesting to you, feel free to come pay us a visit, and don't forget to check out the shiny new area, Crow's Bay.If you have any questions, feel free to post them and I will be happy to answer.

You have to go to other places in the game, in particular head to the missions office for some helpful gear, and explore the library for some tests which give you assistance. the missions will send you arround the main city of vemarken and get you out into the world. Hth.
