Re: Food shopping

@simba, a bit late as regards the chilly since we gnoshed half of it last night, and whilst there is probably enough left for the both of us tomorrow, it probably wouldn't serve three . Actually you can do a reasonable amount of stuff with not much cash or effort, EG the Chilly I made yesterday had a couple of jars of chilly sauce, a couple of tins of kidney beans and some extra diced onion, as well as of course a lot of minced beef. None were super expensive, but by  adding a bit to the cook in sauce, we improved things quite a bit. It also pays to know what of your local supermarkets do nice versions of what, and if you can make friends with a decent butcher. While I'm not crazy about this small town we're living in, one thing I will say, is that at least we have a pretty awesome butcher who makes great sausages and burgers and marinaded chicken and such.@hurstseth405 what's that got to do with anything? You can buy plenty of stuff and put it in the freezer, or  tins of stuff as you need, you just have to plan stuff out as I said, and if your making deliveries, don't overload your fridge too much.

Re: Food shopping

Hi.Dark, if i remember right you wanted to invite me over to the chilly, right? .Usually I plan some days ahead and calculate things in a way that I can use them for two days, make a huge batch on one day and put the rest in the freezer, I am still living off of money I receive from Training, so I can't really buy exquisite food stuff, life in the early 20s I guess.Greetings Moritz.

Re: Food shopping

Work out what you want for each meal, what will go off soonest, and plan ahead accordingly. For example, today my lady and I are having chilly, when buying the ingredients for chilly, I know my lady and I will eat it over a couple of days, therefore I'd need a kilogram of minced beef, two tins of kidney beans and two jars of sauce, plus some diced onion. Since we're eating it over to days we need two lots of rice, one for each day. This is the general principle, have a look at how much one packet of something holds, decide whether that constitute's a meal and how much needs to go with that meal, then buy accordingly. Also, be aware that stuff in the fridge tends to go off, where as tins and stuff in the freezer does not.For example, last week we had a spare bag of fresh pasta as we'd done a spaghetti Bolognese the week before. Whilst fresh pasta keeps a while, it wouldn't keep for ever, so we bought some meatballs and sauce to go with it.At the moment there is a bag of fresh vedge in the fridge, so tomorrow I'll head out to the butchers and buy some of their rather awesome marinaded meat (they have some kebabs I want to try), since we don't want the vedge to go off. This is  basically the principle in food shopping, especially when your preparing meals for two people rather than one. Its not difficult, just call it a resource management game .
