Re: Getting a scanned image PDF into text form?

I probably should’ve asked this in the first post, but anyway. I think before I even try to ocr the pdf, I need to strip the drm away from it. What is an accessible program to do this? Wile a google search gives me results, I would rather go with a program that I know is legit enough then install something random on my computer.

Re: Getting a scanned image PDF into text form?

The only way to read the scanned immages is to OCR them. I would suggest Abbyy fine reader, it's the one I use regularly for my needs and it does a decent job. It's a paid program though so you'll have to purchase it. Keep in mind that, even if you manage to ocr the document and get the text out of the images you will get a documment full of errors, there might be parts where the text isn't recognized correctly, etc.

Re: Getting a scanned image PDF into text form?

I think it’s the fault of the actual PDF.It literally says on the additions homepage that additions was designed to be accessible with screen readers such as NVDA and voiceover. I'm using nvda.

Re: Getting a scanned image PDF into text form?

If you have a recent version of JAWS, when it sees the text document is blank, it should offer to OCR it and put the text in a virtual buffer. However, this applies to regular PDF's, I have no idea about Adobe Digital Editions. Once my mom purchased a book delivered as an Adobe Digital Edition in 2007 or so, and at that time as far as we could find out, Digital Editions titles were not accessible at all. Hopefully things have changed since then, but I have no idea.

Getting a scanned image PDF into text form?

Some might recall that a couple of weeks ago I posted on this form on the fence about buying a not very widely available book on iBooks. I didn’t purchase it on iBooks after getting a couple of answers. but I did purchase it on Google Books, where it was cheaper. i’m still in practically the same situation however. The book appears to be a scanned image PDF, and I had to go through a few steps including installing Adobe digital additions on my computer to get the book open. Now I need to figure out how to get it into readable form. What can I do?
