Adding support for that to the controler client would be relatively easy for somebody who knows the codebase, it just hasn't been done yet. I agree with open-sourcing it. It will never have the full functionality of SAPI, but I'm sure there are some people who would be willing to improve it as much as possible.

The nvda controller client dll itself doesn’t have a function to check if nvda is speaking. So i don’t think it would be possible until the api has it

As an NVDA developer, I'm happy to look into the possibility to find out when speech is done speaking, but without having the source of this driver, I'm afraid it will be a bit difficult for me to test things. You can't use this for games like AAC, don't even try. AAC depends on knowing when the voice stopped speaking to continue the game. That being said, the voice could probably work for some basic games. Hopefully the controller will be updated at some point and we get a better implementation.

well ok. i did everything needed. install the reg files, set the voice as the default voice, opend adventure at c: as a test and it says that an error has occurred that isnt cridical but that my tts voice might not be able to speak. yes i have rebooted

that's what happens when I tried it with Entombed. C:\NvdaSapi\NvdaSapi64.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support

I'm assuming you've done everything (including select NVDASAPI in CPL TTS dialogue). It also works with the launcher, so maybe try that? I will also say that NVDA won't read everything, when you press enter on an option and are supposed to receive more text for example.@Nefilimul, Go to CPL and view by categories. Then, go to Speech Recognition and press enter. Once you've done that, click on Text-to-Speech

This is pretty cool. Unfortunately, I'm getting errors when I try to run Jim Kitchen's games. It says there are no SAPI voices installed and they refuse to run. This works really well in Perilous Hearts and Palace Punch-up. I'm also experiencing the inability for the system to detect when the speech is finished speaking, but this has to do with the Controller Client itself.I managed to fix the voice error by rebooting Windows. Now I can use this with any SAPI application. This means I could use Mac Alex with any speech application on Windows. Thank you for this. Yeah, so this game doesn't work well with Code 7 as probably expected. Not only does NVDA read "blank" at each key press, but it also does not read prompts at choices. I honestly wish there was an official option to use a screen reader for that, but oh well.

@Uhh, missed out a step there Jack. Make sure to set NVDASAPI as the SAPI voice in the TTS dialogue found in Speach Recognition in CPL. For each game that selects its own SAPI voices, remember to set this same voice in the said game.

I've tried this with audioquake, entombed, devil and shadow rine. That's not all what i can remember, however. And it worked, always.Put the nvdasapi folder to the route of your c: drive. make sure there is no nvdasapi folder in the nvdasapi folder. In other words, make sure that you see all the files when you enter the nvdasapi folder. Then install those 2.reg files and set your sapi engine to nvdasapi in the control panel. Done.

This doesn't work for me either. The folder is in the root directory of my C: drive and both registry keys are set but it's still using SAPI instead of NVDA.@arturminyazev, Care to share how you fixed your issue?

The DLL doesn't have any of those abilities, you call the speech function in the DLL and it sends that speech to the screenreader, and that's it. It would break terribly in games like Manamon with cutscenes, which obviously in Manamon isn't an issue since it has native screen-reader support but any game that depends on the TTS waiting.Either way, it seems pretty broken and could never be fully functional because of the way SAPI works. Within a functional SAPI voice, there should be a way to speak to an audio stream, which NVDA could not do. As I said earlier, the speech is queued internally in NVDA and there is no supported way, especially in the controller, to speak a string from your NVDA synth to an audio stream. The best we could hope for would be for someone to use the new speech refactor changes in 2019.3 to build a function into the controller that would be able to discern whether the screen-reader itself is speaking, but at no point will the SAPI voice see an audio stream of this speech. So this will probably break in terrible ways in any application that uses those methods to do any processing with the SAPI voice.My research here is based on the front-facing interface for interacting with SAPI voices from other applications, because I've never been able to find a description of the process required to make a SAPI voice myself.

@lucas, depending on how this thing works that might be a non issue. If, say, this thing sends speech to your NVDA synthesizer with SAPI as supposed to one of the regular SAPI voices, there is at least some possibility that the API can still tell if your NVDA is speaking, assuming of course that that ability is built into SAPI rather than something that has to be included in any synths that utalise it. Of course if all it does is intercepts text before it can even reach SAPI and just relays it to NVDA instead, that could actually be a pretty big problem and could break cutseens and things in a lot of games.

Works great!With the exception of a bug that may need to be addressed. It says blank before and sometimes after it speaks. Wondering what messages are being sent pre-phrase that is causing it to go blank? It also doesn't seem to filter out speech tags, but I blame Kodi for that, the way they do speech-abstraction has been laggy anyway. Other than that, this is incredibly useful.

This should work with any version of NVDA. It's using the 2010 builds of the NVDAControlerClient, which means that it'll be a non-optimal experience because there is no support in that build to check if NVDA is speaking. Nobody as of yet has taken up the task of creating a new build of the controller client to add a function to do this, but it would make the experience much better I think.

hi, this is not working for me, the file path is C:\NvdaSapi\I pressed enter on both InstallNvdaSapi32.reg and InstallNvdaSapi64.reg and pressed yes, it did added them to the rijistry but its not working...
