Re: Now accepting submissions: the software Archive, by Nathan Tech given the amount of accessibility specific software that's been created but no longer has confirm support, I really think you should open up the archive to unsupported software.having a separate section for it as well as a (No support slash no guarantee) disclaimer at the top of that section, And information for each post about the last known operating system version it works with should avoid a lot of the issues associated with hosting abandonwear.after all, if it's supposed to be an archive rather than just a database, then providing a way to safeguard older but still very useful software would be an incredibly valuable service, Just as it has been with the AG archive. Ideally you'd want softwarearchive.net but something about nathantech.net/softwarearchive doesn't sound like something someone totally unfamiliar is going to remember as easily as audiogames.net. That being said, do you think the blindsoftware.com stuff should go up there? I have distribution permission on all of them including the key generater, hence their existence. So if you were to have them on the page and direct to the agarchive links, then I would be willing to submit a good half a dozen still functioning software to the page, plus anything else I find. Now accepting submissions: the software Archive, by Nathan Tech Every Day.Maybe even every hour.Someone in the world asks the question:"I wonder if there is an accessible piece of software that..."Or."I wonder if the software named x is accessible?"Eagerly awaited and with the aim of answering both questions, the Software Archive from Nathan Tech is now accepting submissions.the goal:The goal of this Archive is to bring together mainstream and blind-made software into a centralised information database giving clear links to the vendors and purchasing or download pages for a wide variety of software.It will present these in a way as to include any accessibility notes that may be required to know to get the program running, as well as a clearly defined rating system to make it transparent as to how usable the software is.the software:Over the next week or two, we will be reaching out to various software vendors to encourage them to take an interest in either placing the software on the archive themselves, or having a representative do it for them. User's to the Archive, your good selves, are also able to submit software.Each piece of software, after submitted is carefully reviewed to ensure the information submitted alongside it is accurate and the links are current. The licences are then checked to ensure no breach occurs in terms of advertising or the like, before the submission is approved and made public to the visitors of the website.None of the software in the archive, bar any produced by Nathan Tech, are hosted on our own website. For that reason, the Archive accepts programs that are currently supported only. If a software has been dropped, and the developers no longer host it, neither will we.Automated services will do daily sweeps of the database to ensure the links there in lead to actual websites, rather than error pages and any found to be erroring are then checked on and corrected if possible.The end game:The end game goal, as stated above, is to create a platform that is fully operational and would allow a blind or severely visually impaired person, or the tutor, carer, and or parent of said person to visit this website, do a search for a specific category or software name, and find out information on it.Examples might include screen readers, virus protection programs, web browsers, and so on.So where are we at now?At this stage of the game the software archive is fully coded and all but ready to go.The actual vieweing part of the Archive remains closed, however, the submission links and rating system are now open to you guys and ready to start receiving your ideas and suggestions.So head on over, give us a go.Make sure your favorite software makes it to the Archive!Preferred launch date would be early to mid March, with around 50 to 100 pieces of software as an initial base.The link to the submission form is: https://nathantech.net/software_archive/newsoftware.phpThe link to the main page is: https://nathantech.net/software_archive/index.phpI look forward to your submissions!
