Re: 12 Year Old Builds Nuclear Reactor: Doesn't Incinerate Neighborhood

Now that's seriously impressive and at the same time impressivly serious! The guy should get a place among scientists/physicists early on and not let school/mainstream education system ruin his briliant brain/mind. It's a great proof, that kids are perfectly able of knowing what they want to do and who to be. Sad thing happens, when mainstreaming dampens sutch kids down, leaving often just empty shells capable of nothing, as gifted/talanted minds do not fit well within the average norms. So yeah, a nuclear reactor in the playroom is obviously not a plaything, but still hats off for sutch parents to actually understand and support their son's deep interest and hunger for knowledge and not holding it back saying something like: finish your school, go to university and may-be then you'll get to do what you want.

Yeah, I read the whole backstory on this, and I find that parents like that are hard to come by.    Most parents tend to say "If you want to do it, when you get a job and your own money, you can"...  OH believe me I"ve heard that a few times depending on how "extreme" things were I wanted to do.    SO for a 12-year old child to create fusion, that is hell impressive man.

Re: 12 Year Old Builds Nuclear Reactor: Doesn't Incinerate Neighborhood

that's hella impressive. At the age of twelve my biggest achievement was probably managing not to break a McDonalds toy after five minutes of getting it out of the bag.Ok not exactly, more like hacking around with the braillenote, coding small random scripts and making sound mods that nobody (myself included) could stand to use. Not much better.Talk about some good parents, I know far too many who'd shit themselves at the mere idea of allowing their child to undergo many of the risks involved. Safety should obviously take number one priority, but next to safety is the drive to create something useful. Prevent a child from receiving practical experience and you're in effect crushing ambition. I wish certain generations, most notably X and Y, were able to look past the deep dark headlines and see the big picture and insignificance in the grand scheme of things.
