Do you suppose that Windows Defender quarantined the .exe file because it's BGT?That's happened to me before, so I just have a games folder which I created an exclusion for and then scan each BgT game manually with Malware Bytes before opening it.

Yeah. The archive from sams website. Here's what I get.I get a few text files and a tiny, and I mean tiny, exe, 2589 bytes, which, good luck with that in Python. Then there's a sub directory with all the game stuff in it, but when trying to extract it or do anything with the archive aside from open it, I get nothing but errors. I guess I can try downloading again though? I reached out to him on Twitter about it and got nothing.

I've been thinking, and here are some ideas that I consider fun that you could add to this game.They could be in different modes or whatever.Bonus ghost: A normal ghost, but every time it curses you, you get 1+current curse level points! Can you survive long enough to get good points from it?Unstable: This could be a mode or something. Every second, every object or entity has a 5 or so percent chance to teleport to a random position.Skeleton, enemy:These have short bows, and they run away from you.When there at a safe distance, they load up and shoot at you, requiring you to jump to avoid them.You need to trap them against a corner or something to kill them and get those 2 points!Magnetic cannons:These are normal cannons but when they fire a ball, it simply rolls randomly around the board until it hits something. Maybe you, a wall, a troll, or a cannon. Probably drops a point when it dies and expires after 20 seconds.If one is near you, you may be able to attack it to send it rolling in the direction your facing.There could be a mode where you can't attack anything besides cannon balls and you must relie on aiming with cannon balls to get points!Battleaxe: It's a power up, and while you've got it, you can attack trolls.All I can think of for now.

yeah, fair enough. I have an idea for a replacement powerup then. What if you could pick up something like the ghost sword that's used in CP? Of course, you wouldn't be able to use it infinitely. perhaps it just gives you extra range against ghosts for one hit, or freezes them for a few seconds so you can go in for the kill more easily. It could even protect you against curse by slightly reducing the likelihood that the ghost can hit you as it passes by. I wouldn't recommend calling it a ghost sword, though. I personally think that's one of the most idiotic concepts in CP, not least because it sounds like you're spraying them with something rather than stabbing them with a sword.

Nah. It was actually meant to be friendly, because without the screw ups the AI can clear the board quite more easily than you can. Either way, even if it was supposed to screw you over - rock storms in Oh Shit are supposed to do that, it should have a viable way out, something that requires extra or irregular work to get out of the way instead of just a... the random generator rolled a 1. Aww, you lose!

My initial thought upon seeing the possession powerup was that it was meant to be the opposite of the friendly bot. I guess that's why it doesn't bother me that much when it makes you lose the game, not to mention the negative connotation that possession in general has. If it were removed, it wouldn't hurt my feelings, but I've always seen it as something that's meant to screw you over.

I think that the possession power up should be removed. As Sam stated, the AI will never be perfect. Therefore, there will always be that small chance that it jumps up and gets eaten by a bat, and if you're controlled by it... there goes your game. This coming from someone who likes to create evil power ups to mess with people, there is a limit to that. There should always be a way - a choice you could make to get out of a situation, rather than a random roll of the dice that says, "game over." and there's nothing you can do about it.

I have s many ideas! Here we go...: Instead of a growing map, make a huge map with all kinds of different areas. Like a snowy area where there are bears and freezing water where you can catch fish for some extra points. And a desert where the cacti and trolls spawn. And a pond where you can dive for pearls, and there's bubbles, but there's also fishies and stingrays and other stuff.If you don't like that, then maybe just specific areas of the map with different tiles where certain things only spawn, like sand for cacti, ice for bears, etc.If you end up doing the different tile things, you could have them do different things, like eventually dying of thirst if you don't drink in sand, or slipping around in ice, and freezing if you stay still to long, this would obviously make dumbies more useful, cause you could place them in a place where you don't die over time, and go to the die over time area yourself, allowing the dumbies to get some extra points while your away.ChasmsMushrooms that can help or hinder you based on there pitch.Some different soundnig mushrooms doing the poison spore thing.Hindering powerups, like slow down, spawn enemy, etc.I'm sure I could think of more but that's what I got for now.

I am vastly improving the AI though, your not supposed to lose the game with no control when you pick up a possession, bad powerups sure but not powerups that give you no chance. Right now when you pick one of those up you pretty much turn it into a pig game where if the dice just happens to role a 1 the game is over and no amount of skill can save you. I may add some kind of way to break out of possession if you really want so if you think you are about to die you can try to save yourself.

I'm in favor of having different sounds for powerups. I also agree that the AI shouldn't be too smart, having it not be infallible is kind of the fun of it, sort of like how in other games, a powerup might not be so helpful. It sucks when it makes you lose a game, but at the same time, it's all part of keeping you on edg as you play.

Yeah we could do prerecorded speech, or make each powerup have a separate sound. I am thinking of the latter, because then it may be possible to add translations in the future

Yeah you can also get cheap but still decent chargers on amazon, they are off brand, but as long as they are somewhere between dirt cheap and basically the same price as the ones from Apple, you should be okay if the reviews look good and legit.I've done that before my self like three times now.  No fucking way I'm paying 100 bucks for a god damn laptop charger.And point taken about the field size.I would prefer a prerecorded voice my self, since if you have your speech off, you'd need to turn it on and then use that key while not picking up any more items, then turn it off again.  That's kinda hard int he thick of things.  Plus, by the time things get quiet enough to understand it, you may have picked up another item again. Have you considered using a system more like the older games, troop2, super deekout ETC, where you can use items you've picked up when ever you want?  That way you can use them more effectively...  You could use the number row, letters, or page up and down or something with the item name voiced as you scroll to it.Maybe this would take too much out of the randomness though I don't know, but at least then you could choose when to use things like super speed and possession.

Funny idea, helicopter.Picks up enemies or cactus's and drops them near you.Moves quickly, takes 3 hits to destroy, spawns every 2 minutes or so, can drop bombs which destroy stuff and create pits, moves fast, but can't damage you if you jump.My idea for a boss.

So what happens is it only looks for a troll within 15 tiles of it, I'll change that and it should be way way better with dealing with trolls. The other thing that really confuses the AI that will be harder to fix is when it is waiting behind a cactus and a zombie comes traipsing over to it to take a nice bite, it then swings at the zombie, which also destroys the cactus, then the troll comes and kills it. But I will greatly increase the range of looking for cacti and trolls so it doesn't stupidly chop down the cactus while a troll is on the map.

I think that's kind of sometimes the point, there has to be some risk factor involved with letting an AI controlled character sit behind the wheel. I feel it shouldn't be able to 100% of the time always keep itself or you safe (That's unrealistic)

I just saw something happen which seems an outright bug.So there I was, playing my little heart out, when I became possessed. Ah cool, I get to sit back and relax for ten seconds while the AI goes off and does good stuff for me! Well, not quite.A cactus spawned. I could also hear that a troll had spawned. So my possessed self walks up to the cactus and…CHOP! Bye bye, cactus. Nice to see ya, wouldn't wanna be ya!You can see where this quickly lead. Game over! The troll was no doubt very happy with the actions of my AI self, since it sealed my doom. Even if I'd somehow been able to rest control of my character from the bumbling idiot currently in the driver's seat, I could have done nothing to save myself.

I've seen the AI wait multiple times for trolls behind cactuses on purpose, so it's not going to destroy them unless it doesn't see a troll, which sometimes gets confusing because one may be away from its field of view, and you know what a troll without a cactus means

One thing I've noticed is that if you have something like a friendly bot or are possessed, a lot of times it'll cut down any cacti that spawn. Normally this is all well and good, but it's very likely to be fatal if that cactus spawned because a troll also spawned. You would think the goal of any AI would be, at the very least, not to get itself killed. Of course there's a problem here, since the AI probably doesn't take into account that if its actions get you killed, it's going to effectively die as well, since when you die, it's game over, and the entire field—and everything and everyone on it—is destroyed.

Alternatively, I could easily make a key that repeats the last thing spoken if that would make it easier for some people. About the larger map size, we could, but I've found that if we do this, the field quickly becomes sparse and you can survive for 20 minutes for lack of entities in a given space.

Same and I'm on NVDA.  I find that using prerecorded speech works better anyway, that way you don't miss it because the screen reader is disabled to avoid notifications from other programs, or just gets drowned out by other sounds.Doesn't need to be voiced, just some TTS at a reasonable rate and volume would work fine.  Add an echo to make it cooler if you'd like I also think a slightly larger field or at least a higher expansion rate would be kinda nice, but maybe that's just me.

I've noticed that a lot of times the powerup you get isn't being read. I'm using JAWS, and I'm pretty sure the problem is that if you're not extremely careful about just tapping arrow keys when near a powerup, if you have a key held down, speech is interrupted so you never get to hear what it said.

I have one more suggestion. After you pick up a power up, maybe it could make a different sound for each powerup or read what powerup you got with speech that's not NVDA. It's really easy to miss which one you got unless you have sleep mode on, and even then it sometimes gets drowned out.

I've noticed weirdness about the save too. I tell it to skip the intro, and sometimes it only honors this after I quit and restart the game. Then after I play some, then quit, the next time I run it, the intro is back. It's as if the save is cleared for some reason.Other than that, I love the new stuff! Keep it up!

Okay so this is something that I had suggested before now on one of Steevo's podcasts, but I think it was misunderstood.  It'd be interesting to have different types of environment, lava rock with pits with a step of mud around them, ice that could make you slip around, sand with water in the middle that slows you down ETC.  Either as difficulty modes, as changes that happen when you pick up a certain item, or every couple of minutes automatically.  Obviously it'd make scoreboards a bit different, but it would add allot of variability to things.In future maybe you could even base the enemies upon the environment type, but then you'd possibly be encroaching too far into CP clone territory.Even just some stray bits of ice now and then would make things slightly more challenging.Either way I think cactus's need to be quieter, and possibly have different pitches/speeds so that they don't all blend into one.  Someone also suggested them going away after a while, which I agree with, and item despawn rate could be increased as well.I really like the curse system by the way!

Okay so this is something that I had suggested before now on one of Steevo's podcasts, but I think it was misunderstood.  It'd be interesting to have different types of environment, lava rock with pits with a step of mud around them, ice that could make you slip around, sand with water in the middle that slows you down ETC.  Either as difficulty modes, as changes that happen when you pick up a certain item, or every couple of minutes automatically.  Obviously it'd make scoreboards a bit different, but it would add allot of variability to things.In future maybe you could even base the enemies upon the environment type, but then you'd possibly be encroaching too far into CP clone territory.Even just some stray bits of ice now and then would make things slightly more challenging.Either way I think cactus's need to be quieter, and possibly have different pitches/speeds so that they don't all blend into one.  Someone also suggested them going away after a while, which I agree with, and item despawn rate could be increased as well.I really like the curse system by the way.

I wonder if these DLLS can be packaged in the executable?This is a fun game by the way.Would you also be interested in an offline mode where:There are 2 teams,Both teams consist of a more or less equal random number of entities,The entities will hunt there team enemies,Entities from both teams can collect items to improve speed and gain boosts,The player can watch the battle,Optional the player can unlock new and more interesting entities by achievements that the player can then spawn to help a team by using assist points, which you get 1 every 10 seconds.This is just a cool and maybe relaxing idea.Or, a mode called LMS where everyone dodges through an obstacle course as long as they can.

It seems that by looking at the error, a WX dependency or dll of some sort is missing. I used to get a similar error with Accessible_Output2 once upon a time.

I opened ah damn it.zip in widows explorer, then ran the ah damn it.exe file and his extract all. Then I go to the extracted folder and tun the exe.

Are you running the executable from within the zip archive? There is no need for an installer, you are just supposed to extract the archive and run ah_damn_it.exe

Unfortunately I have no other ideas as to why you are getting this error. If you haven't, attempt to disable your antivirus and see if that makes it go away. The error you are getting has nothing to do with my code, and thus it is very difficult for me to help you debug. All I can do is give educated guesses about the internal workings of python or pyinstaller. As I said, I think the most likely culprit is your antivirus, because the game extracts files to a temporary directory to run. In a way the executable you run is a self extractor that extracts a couple hundred small files into a temp dir then executes the proper  code. Try disabling your antivirus then running it and see if it works

there probably should be a limit to how many cactuses can be on a map at a time. You can make yourself impervious to trolls by just not destroying the cactuses, and then they will almost certainly just get destroyed by them as more and more are generated.
