Re: Android? or Apple?

Well I've been typing non-stop since 2018 on my Samsung phone on my samsung keyboard and haven't had any problem with that or surfing the web or keeping track of notifications. There was a time where I had to switch to one touch typing, and I seriously thought it was gonna be a problem, but it's not that bad, hell I'm even doing it now, and it is not such a big deal after all. I've been posting nonstop and exclusively from my Samsung phone and with my samsung keyboard onto this forum because the site isnt compatible with my dinosaur ass pc, and haven't had a problem doing so, so maybe things aren't so bad as 24 suggests. I mean sure, you cant swipe between the letters on the virtual keyboard, but after a while, guessing and tapping accurately on the correct letter becomes almost as breathing and you dont even think about having to swipe between letters if you get the wrong one anymore. Just backspace, retype and move on.What about turning on audio dumping? Wouldn't that help with the ringtone issue?

Re: Android? or Apple?

@post 23, Good luck on that. Maybe on Android 13 but now it's far behind. As I've stressed in other topics of this nature, I don't really have the time to customise my device to that point where it is not the one I bought. I also don't have the time to download 10 to 20 apps from the store to test which one does something better or closer to my taste. What is more, I want a device that let's me be as equal as one could get to the sighted users who don't give a damn about Voiceover or Talkback. Sadly, iPhone let's me achieve all this.In the end, it's one's choice to use whatever one wants and feels comfortable with. One piece of advice, however, I'd recommend everyone, either switching from iPhone to Android, or the other way around, try the device you're investing in before buying it. It's not like buying a bier at a bar and than throwing it away because you don't like it.

Re: Android? or Apple?

Hi, If you use your phone for browsing the web, want to keep up with notifications, and do any amount of typing, I would highly suggest against an android. Android 10, samsung, tried both tb and VA, gboard and samsung keyboard. Typing is so bad even with Braille screen input that I hardly if ever use my phone for that. not that I regularly typed on my IPhone anyway, but on android I avoid it whenever possible. I have started sending people voice messages! lmao So if you think the problems I have mentioned above are worse than that on IOS by all means switch, at least you won't have to deal with ITunes anymore I sold my IPhone because I was a bit financially strapped, hardly used my phone for anything but minimal typing web browsing, and for calls. Thinking I'd give android a fare try, and it would have managed to sort out it's issues as far as to allow doing those things I mentioned decently well, I switched and here we are. I would take a bloody IPhone SE over this any day. I can't even tell who's calling me unless I want to turn off the ringtone, and yes, I have those options in the settings enabled. I just press the volume up button to pick up the call these days without knowing who it is that might be calling me. All the best with your choice, I thought I'd lay down my experiences, and in the end it's up to you to make the choice. as it is, Nither Apple nor Android/ google are paying me for promotion, after all. Re: Android? or Apple?

I have both an iPhone and a Pixel, and work in the mobile app accessibility arena professionally, so I spend a lot of time on both platforms. My analysis is that they are currently pretty equal, there are a lot of outdated opinions of Talkback, but the last few updates have definitely brought it on a level with Voice Over. It can do pretty much all the same things, just in slightly different ways. Even the tales of more apps being accessible on iOS isn't necessarily true any more. In fact I have a number of apps I can only use with Android, and several others where accessibility is better even if I can hack it with either platform. Both have braille screen input, similar navigation capabilities and settings. Talkback does have a screen search feature that works better than Voice Over's item chooser in my tests of both and a few new or upcoming features that are nice additions.I will say that Talkback has made a lot more updates lately and added more features than Apple has in a long time. I also, have been very fed up with the accessibility bugs in iOS 13. I am planning in the next few weeks to switch mobile providers and at that time make my Pixel my primary device.A few pieces of advice.1. It is worth investigating if you will have access to all the apps you need on Android if you switch2. I Highly suggest getting a Pixel device if you go Android. You will get more features and more frequent updates, and with the Pixel 4A likely to be released soon, there will be a new mid priced option if that's a concern.3. You may wish to wait until iOS 14 and Android 11 are released in a couple of months. Apple is promising some improvements for Voice Over, though some of those will only be available if you have one of the newer, more expensive phones. I know for certain there are a lot of big changes coming out for Talkback as well, which will well be worth putting into consideration when you make your choice.4. Finally, it is worth considering the ecosystems of both. I personally don't really care for Apple's other products, such as the Apple TV and have no interest in owning a Homepod. I am, however quite fond of my Google speakers and am strongly considering getting a pair of the new Pixel buds. I really want to try the live language translation feature!Good luck with your decision! The good news is that you should have good accessibility either way, and it's better to have the problem of not knowing which platform to choose, instead of being force to pick the only one that is accessible.

Re: Android? or Apple?

yeah, i can't really put much here. I'm an apple buyer through and through, just with all of the android experience i've had in the past its just, not good. That is one of m big problems with android, the costumizability and the variety. If you hear good things, especially about accessibility, on this one moterola phone, but then a google pixle or something gets a huge update for accessibility, what are you going to do? You could get a pixle, sure, or you could  stick with the moterola you bought, and wait months on that possible update, and for the big part of it you wanted to not work because of a skin or launcher you use, or that came with your phone. Not sure if thats how that works anymore or if cariers/phone makers like samsung or google have gotten along and release updates regularly and at the same time or closer to it like how apple does, instead of litteral months apart from some people, even depending on the carior in some cases. Also, apple devices are more secure while that again relies on the phone you bought, and how much security they added or protections they've taken out of the android code before putting it on the phone before mass shipping them out.

Re: Android? or Apple?

Hi.Well, for me, the most overtaking con over apple is that android phones are wy cheaper than Iphones and all the I Stuff. I mean, sure, they have the IA network controlled siri voice thing, and it indeed rocks, but I don't really have more money and my phone is bigger than the IPhone I used to have and that some random jerk stole from me lol.But still, that is the most overtaking con for me. And the stereo microphones also, if recording is your thing. I have a stereo microphone android device, and I do ASMR for me and for my small corner haha. Also, I do enjoy recording my piano in stereo, as a piano should sound. That is what I love from android. Apple has its stereo sound that now some android phones do as well, but I haven't really listened an IPhone record in stereo. I mean, if they do so, they would certainly rock because their microphones are so freaking good quality receivers.

@1 You get what you want, but you dont have to use talkback if you decide on an android. I personally use talkback and it's fine. Touch typing on my samsung keyboard, I'm typing twice as fast as I did on my ipod touch. I really like the freedom of transferring files from my phone to my pc and back again without the hassle of a third party application, so if that's important to you, it's worth considering. But yeah, you get what you want. Cant really tell you which is better, because as everyone has said, both have pros and cons.I have a question about the scrambling of words on the voice over though. Is it specific to that voice, or can you switch voices and have it still mispronounce words?

Re: Android? or Apple?

I am a big Android fan, because while Google is far from perfect too, at least it's easier to install roms on Android, or use mostly open source apps from FDroid. There's no iTunes, no stupid workarounds you have to go through to change your ringtone, etc. Much more open and available for playing around, basically. But yes, Talkback is missing some of the feature Voice Over has. Keyboard input isn't as fast apparently, image recognition isn't there yet, etc. We have a more accessible Discord app though, so there's that.If you switch to Android, you'll probably have to re-learn several things, so you have to decide if you have enough patience and curiosity.Remember that, unlike an iPhone, you can get a cheap (if low-quality) android phone, too. So you can buy an used phone and test how this all works before making the switch for real.

Re: Android? or Apple?

@1.It may be true that Apple may fix it voice over pronunciation bugs soon. Well, you should think it for a while and decide since both of them have pros and cons.If you ask me, Apple is more accessible. Since Android updates are not very regular, you may have to stick with a bug for a longer time in the Android version. Whereas, IOS is being updated regularly. And in every updates, they fix some or the other bugs. Still, it is proprietary like before. But, it has some disadvantages too. For example, Apple hasn't ported any of its applications to Android. Thus, if your applications and music libraries are based on Appstore and iTumes, you may feel a little locked, or it may not make any difference. Also, I feel that IOS is more secure as compared to Android. But if you talk about sending items, Android does it more easily. At the end, it is you who has to decide and, as with many purchase decisions, your choice will depend on what you value.
