Re: Are there any audio guides on programming?

When I learned the LAMP stack and the MERN stack, I learned by listening to videos. The thing I found appealing about videos is that concepts are usually expressed informally and quickly. It's not that I don't understand formal writing and technical jargon coming from text in articles, it's just there is an inherent ability to understand spoken explanations. Also, if you get a MOOC or a course from Udemy, most of the time, there are supplements to the videos, usually the code in plain text format. Although, full disclosure, I already had familiarity with programming and Computer Science when I learned from video. Pedagogical approaches to learning how to program are very interesting to me. One I typically agree with is to just start coding and pick up new concepts as you go and when you need them. There is always new technologies to be discovered in the software development landscape, so much so, that you just learn to use all resources, whether audio, video, or written text to your advantage.

Re: Are there any audio guides on programming?

I personally haven't found any use in auditory tutorials for programming. They just make me fall asleep, lol. Besides, it would be super easy to just continue listening, telling yourself that you understand this and that concept, and be really, really, really confused later on.The other problem you must consider is that a lot of the tutorials do not give you a "check for understanding" option. Let's take BGT, for example. You can't do simon until you read section 9 of the language tutorial, which is a lot to remember. Granted, you can still reference the files, but it was, at least for me, really discouraging to look up the basic rules just because I didn't have anything to cement what I'm learning. If you can use auditory tutorials to learn, great. More power to you. However, be prepared to fail or at least struggle to follow the narrator as you learn.

Re: Are there any audio guides on programming?

moderation:Moving this into the dev room, as it pertains more to programming/game creation than game discussion.end moderationI won't stop you from trying, but I don't think I've ever heard of anyone having success learning to code through audio. This works much better with sighted folks, see platforms like Udemy, but only because you're getting actual videos and can easily refer back to what's been typed before. The BGT audio tutorial is available on the wayback machine if you want that for some reason.Out of curiosity, has anyone reading this significantly benefited from auditory programming tutorials? If so... How?
