Please don't worry about being too harsh. Honest feedback is very important to me.Audiogame Jam is something I am planning to organise and run again next year so everything learned now will be used to make next year's event better.

Re: Audiogame Jam Announcement

Hi james.Well hmmm so msse is just being a total clod thats good to know.Msse really has issues with a lot of files saying they are a virus when other stuff just doesn't.Hmmm the countdown game I may try, maybe, but if its not worth it well.I never got twinkle working, and as for the walk in the forrest the only game with x86 code, I found it quite boring once I mastered the entire thing. My issue is the complete and utter simplicity of the games.Granted the games had to be made in short order, however, even for the experimental games in the audiogames archives these were of less value than that.I'd really like to play the games that were 64 bit only on my x86 machine just because.I really hope more stuff was released, and I hope you didn't think of my feadback to harsh earlier.I just didn't expect something of this low quality.I guess this is what the general mortal sighted population think us blind pe
ople can deal with.In a way thats good to know that we still have a lot of things to do.If anything it shows how much the sighted need to go with audio and the advantage we have over the sightlings. While they have their graphics we control sound maybe in some ways over what the sighted concidder worth their  time.At least for the small fish. That is good to know.It also shows that at least the sighted have some if only slight interest in the blind and that those that have programmed before are willing to have a whack.I really hope more jams are better. The only thing I regret is that we didn't have one of the small time devs who are blind put out a decent game on the jam, maybe not a major block buster but something that shows the sightlings what we can and can not do.Bar graphics ofcause we have mastered 3d audio and positioning, multiplayer to a certain extent, arcade, card, and various types of games, including puzzle
and strategy types, as well as using good sfx and voices. The only other issue I did have with a game is that the readme stated it needed steam and a vr something or rather. If it can be put, those that program for the blind should remember we won't have the latest tech, we don't need it.The 2gb video card maybe benificial for screenreaders, 4-8gb may be fine to, and a good cpu, but it is doubtfull we will have the latest screenreader or os all the time. And we tend to run older systems rather than the newer ones or replace things when they break etc.Ie my wrig now is an i5 duelcore,  the unit was allready ancient when I got it.It was a store demo model it was that old.6 months after I got it, all driver and support for it stopped and the bios stopped updating it was so old.I updated it because my previous unit died. With family retired, there is a good chance that when this dies, I may get another just like it or olde
r.The blind do not need the latest hardware, they need enough so they can control their lives and enough to run them.Much as we would like it we can't get or can see any reason to get a system powerfull enough to nuke the earth and start our own empire of the stars.Yes we may get some of it but if we do the generation will never be the latest either. One thing I'd really like to see, are games that use other languages.I am unsure if it can be excluded, but I'd like to get people to make games in other languages bar unity since it seems all the games are either flash or unity based.I'd really like other accessibility solutions tried.Unity doesn't have as I understand it the libraries for access unless its all recorded.I know java has some access, however most games are python/ visual studio c# and other programming languages.Thing is, This competition may as well be the audiogame jam using unity ownly compe
tition.I'd like people to try other interfaces.Another fact, unity is not usable by us blind people generally.

Re: Audiogame Jam Announcement

Thanks for your feedback.I tried Countdown. It's a very simple timing game and those of you who consider yourselves hardcore gamers will tire of it incredibly quickly. It did not appear to be a virus of any kind, at least by my anti-virus software. I am using Windows Defender, but to be sure I uploaded the file to www.VirusTotal.com. This website scans files and websites with many virus scanners and the game came up clean there too.I will relay to the developers taking part that an x86 version of their games to download would be greatly appreciated by players on older machines.I'll pester the entrant who only has an audio file available to upload a game in short order, otherwise I'll be removing it from the Audiogame Jam games list, likewise any game with no download link at all.

Re: Audiogame Jam Announcement

Hi.Well I viewed the audiogame jam. Here is what I got out of it.12 entries. Most of them were  64 bit only.Yes  I have a 64 bit machine, no its not mine, no I  am not going to run demos on it.2.  one of the games countdown had a  trogen in it said msse.No I am not going to play it, it may be  false but again its just a audio demo and I won't keep it  and it could always be not false.3.  twinkle, didn't want to do anything.4.  the rest of them1 of them didn't have a download link another only had an online play link which didn't seem to work in firefox, and the rest just sucked.Yeah nice demos, but total crap.I know this was short but compaired to our other things, they really are not hmmm going to work.Lets move on from this topic with all the crappy games in it.I'd have a better outlook if1.  the 64 bit games had x86
executables in it or were actually worth playing on x64.2.  the twinkle game actually worked and said something on starting.3.  the countdown game was actually safe to run.I don't usually rate something like this crap off the cuff but this didn't even waste like a minute of my time.Lets see.99% of these games are 64 bit, meaning a lot of us on older systems are just automatically excluded. One of them was a trogen, I could have told msse to fuck off and shut up but there is always the chance it is actually saying it is and I had never seen that trogen appear on my system so why bother.3 of them, had other issues.1, had no download link.1 of them was only a soundtrack and had no download and the other simply didn't have a download at all.I have noticed though most if not all were unity based. And the one or so I did play were just not engaging my brain. One was an arcade game with a lot of b
eeps in it and another was click the left and right mouse button to do things. The plot sucked and it may be a kids game but not really usefull.I guess if you were one of those poor helpless blind people that are all over the place according to sightlings this would be nice. However we gamers some of us hardcore are not the poor helpless kind though we are blind. So as a result, this jam was nice as an idea, but um try harder please?Or maybe just don't even bother if this is all that can be out I don't know.Does anyone else that turned off their antivirus software and tried it on an x64 bit unit agree with me.I could be right off my microchips because I am the only poster and the comp should be finnished by now.

Re: Audiogame Jam Announcement

Audiogame Jam is now coming to an end. With only a few hours left the submitted games are coming in fast. I encourage everyone here to go play them and give the developers feedback.A list of the games can be found here: http://jams.gamejolt.io/AGJam/gamesAlso, I was wondering if I should make a post in General GameDiscussion or New Releases for those who might not normally check the developers section of this forum. If a mod reads this could I make a new thread for this purpose? Who on the forum should I contact to ask about this? (I don't want to start a new thread that is very similar to this one without permission, even if it is for a slightly different audience.)

Re: Audiogame Jam Announcement

Sadly no, AGJam games should be created from scratch, with some flexibility allowed for those who may need to use some pre-made audio assets. On the subject of itch.io, I may consider using their site in the future. It looks quite nice but I'd have to dig into the features a bit more.

Re: Audiogame Jam Announcement

Pity the jam wasn't hosted on itch.io, but maybe thats more a matter of personal preference, heh. Anyway, I'd created a limited accessible Minecraft prototype a few months ago using an open sourced engine and was considering fleshing it out a bit, would that still be considered admissible?

Re: Audiogame Jam Announcement

I would actually encourage using an existing game engine rather than coding one from scratch. I'd assumed that most entering would use an existing publicly available engine and I've no objection to using your own either.I'm fine with using pre-made creative commons or public domain assets if it's necessary. I would much rather see games made with those than not be made at all. That said, if you can make your own assets please do, but no one is going to be shamed doing otherwise. If you are using pre-made assets be sure to give proper attribution to their authors where required before your game starts. For creative commons assets you'll certainly need proper attribution. Public domain assets probably won't but I'll look into this.On another note, your questions make it clear I need an FAQ or rules page on the game jam website. Your questions are great for helping me find issues I hadn't considered, so thanks!
