The only major difference is that you must restart the client and reconnect every 2 hours, with a couple warnings before that.You don't need to wait for a cooldown period or anything, and once you get fast at it, you can be back in under 20 seconds.I've only had a handful of cases where this was a problem, and even in RP, people usually just think I'm taking an extra long time to write. I think at this point I just need to learn how to connect to other Muds in Mushclient and work things out from there, or something. I thought at one point you could open the MUD in a browser, but I tried that and no dice.I'll admit as far as soundpacks go, I've been rather spoiled by Alter Aeon with it's ambiances and unique battle music. Squaresoft has neither, and the difference was jarring at first. I mean, in Alter Aeon I'm mainly on my mage character so I don't get battle music much anyways because I have my minions fight for me, and I have normal music turned off. In Squaresoft I don't turn the music off because without it I'd have nothing.I play Incrementals a lot these days, so maybe soundless Mudding will come more naturally to me, but there is still that realtime factor regarding combat... It's really up to you whether you want to actually put the money in though since any pack you use will be unrestricted for the duration of the demo; every two hours. Thankfully though, it isn't as much of a pain as some demos, basically just closing and reopening the program. JAWS topics, when all the original poster wanted was to know which version to get. The difference is that VipMud only costs 30 USD. So, let's first try to put this to rest right now before things get out of hand.In the end, what client you use is going to depend on your needs. Just use what works for you. If you want to write complex scripts, need the scripting support that MUSHclient has, and don't mind screwing around with a ton of XML junk, then use MUSHclient. If you don't mind shelling out 30 USD for a basic client that provides limited scripting support and it meets your needs, then buy and use VipMud. Both clients have their strengths and weaknesses, and those are going to depend on the people using them. Personally, I don't need a ton of scripting support, don't want to deal with a ton of complicated XML junk, and I prefer the simple interface of VipMud. So, I use VipMud.What I would encourage people to do if they're not sure what client they need is try both and see what they like best. MUSHclient is free, and VipMud has a 30 day full demo. It's risk free.As for the original question, I didn't think version 1 was on the page anymore. It is though, so here's what I say about that. If you have a key for version 1 and want to use version 2, you'll need to upgrade your registration. If you don't even have a key, then you'll get a key for version 2.
