Because I find Itunes to be the spawn of satan, I haven't  anything Itunes related with Chrome other than the applevis website, I prefer to do my ap store searching on my Iphone anyway.~As regards Chrome I have another question. Is there a way to disable tabbed browsing? I never used this in Ie, and often I have more tabs open without meaning too. On occasions when I need multiple things open i prefer to use multiple windows instead as they're easier to manage.

Ah Stewie I misunderstood, it's nice to have the combo boxes working correctly now. Apart from  the odd thing with going into my Iphone stuff folder on my bookmarks everytime I press B I'm liking Chrome so far.One thing I really like is how it saves your position when you close the browser. I still have a homepage set,  it's nice to not have to navigate to where I want each and every time I start, especially with online games, rereading blogs etc.

Re: Trying out google chrome and Nvda

I actually turned the auto reporting of background progress bars off because I found it rather annoying when copying many different files, but I'll give it a try and see if it works in Chrome. @Stewee, I know about the auto navigation thing in Nvda but that isn't the issue with chrome, the issue is that basically it's hard to interact with combo boxes. For example the one on this site I can't hit arrows to go up and down the menu, and if I try navigating by letter it activates streight away. Ie used to do this, but the old  trick of holding alt arrows doesn't seem to work in chrome.

Hello.I've not tried downloading a big file with chrome but can't you use the option to speak or beep when you alt tab away from the window? It works fine in Firefox but I'm not sure about Chrome. To find the option go to the object presentation settings by either finding it in the NVDA menu under preferences or pressing control, nvda, o.Once you're there, tab until you hear report background progress bars and check the checkbox, then pressenter on the okay button.Tip, if you want to cycle between speaking, beeping, both or none for progress bars, press NVDA, U.

Thanks turtlepower that is handy  though I do wish I didn't have to refresh the page to get Nvda to work properly after the download is done. Oddly enough I didn't see this when I looked in the chrome store under accessibility addons. If  Pitermach is correct then hopefully chrome support, particularly with those annoying edit boxes has been improved in Nvda 17.4. Actually 17.4 doesn't seem to be out yet, both on the nv access website and when I use the check for updates item, the latest version seems to be 17.3, unless of course it's a beta of 17.4.

Re: Trying out google chrome and Nvda

You can also get an add-on that will play a sound when your download is complete. There are several of these in the Chrome store, but the one I use is called Download Notify:https://chrome.google.com/webstore/deta … nfo-dialogIt's not quite the same as IE, or the Navigational Sounds add-on for Firefox, which I do miss, since it plays a different sound to the one you're probably used to. But it's pleasant enough, and I wouldn't have liked it very much if I had no way of knowing without going into the downloads window when my downloads finished, so it's not so bad.

@dark wel, regarding the downlaod thing, most brousers work like that. they don't give you a notification when the download is complete. you can however just go back to it and check how much it's left before the download is complete but not by looking at the progress bar because nvda seems to have problems syncing.

Hi, I am now trying Google Chrome more seriously, and I can say that the only thing that might prevent me from switching to it is its minor performance with some form fields, particularly edit boxes and combo boxes.Other than that, it is all right.I don't use many bookmarks apart from Google Translate and two or three libraries.Firefox is indeed bringing up many problems; one of the most infuriating is the point where Firefox crashes after it displays the prompt to save credentials on any website.

Re: Trying out google chrome and Nvda

Two things I do not like about chrome, are the way that for some odd reason whenever I press b for bookmarks from the chrome menu I land in my Iphone stuff folder and then have to go backwards and arrow through everything again, and the fact thatn when you've set a download, chrome basically just sits there until it is done and doesn't give you a notification. At least with Ie I could do some other things while a download was in progress and I'd usually get a message, but chrome doesn't even seem to have a progress bar, although the downloads themselves are very fast, and I do appreciate the bfact that I get a proper "save" dialogue the way Ie used to have on Xp as  to having stuff stuck in a notification bar to one side.

Re: Trying out google chrome and Nvda

Since I don't use facebook I'm less bothered about that, and I don't tend to be paranoid about security, I just don't like the idea of any tom dick or harry being able to view my bookmarks from my google account. The combo boxes thing is a bit annoying though, so I hope this gets fixed in Nvda 17.4, though in fairness it doesn't occur all the time. I tried out core exiles and many of the combo boxes there were fine, while the ones on this site aren't which is oddd. One thing I really do like in Chrome is the way that your last web page is saved, so even if you turn the computer off you can get back to what you were doing. This will be a godsend when I read long reread blogs like the one on tor.com.

Re: Trying out google chrome and Nvda

For combo boxes, try going into focus mode with nvda+space, then tabbing away from and back onto the list. This is a bit flaky. I also just tried this again and now it looks as though they now work much better, so I would also suggest you try out the very latest release of NVDA (2017.4RC as of this post) because it looks like some fixes were implemented.Glad you're enjoying Chrome. If you're concerned about privacy it's worth mentioning that you don't have to sign into your Google account to use it. You can also turn off browser history on your Google privacy settings if you just want your bookmarks synced. If that isn't enough, because the Chromium/blink engine that powers Chrome is open-source, you don't have to use the official Google Chrome app. There's apps like Ungoogle Chromium, which keeps the stock UI, as well as apps like Vivaldi and Opera that are their own thing and have additional features like a reader view or built-in ad blocking

Re: Trying out google chrome and Nvda

Sometimes when something doesn't work in browse mode, try it in focus mode.I find the bookmarks easier to organise that way.I can use cut, copy, and paste, as though I'm pasting into a document. The drawback is NVDA won't read the bookmark titles properly when you do it this way.I also think chrome isn't a browser to recommend on a public computer, such as a library, unless you're paranoide about clearing your history.I haven't really noticed much of a difference with ff.net, but then again, I'm not all that picky.I did notice the facebook thing, it reminds me of touch.facebook.com, but because I'm use to that version, it didn't bother me.Sure there are some little differences, but they're not what I would call show stoppers.I love the translater, which funny enough doesn't work for iTunes links.I guess it boils down to apple hates google and vice verser..I also love the fact that you can cast your entire desktop, if you wanted to, asuming you have a chromecast.

No idea about Jaws, but you can disable the spellcheck in Chrome. Go to settings, then go down the headings until you get to language. Down arrow until you get to "spellcheckk" and click that, you  then see the default language with a button under it which says "toggle button selected" Just unselect it, this is also how you change languages if you want your spellcheck to use a different language than the default one. Amusingly I found out about this because I noticed that Chrome wasn't reporting spelling errors to me, then I remembered I'd temporarily turned them off in Nvda :I actually find having spelling errors pointed out when I'm typing on a webpage rather handy, especially when I'm editing the database, but to each there own.

Re: Trying out google chrome and Nvda

@sito, I have been collecting favourites in Internet explorer  for about 13 years and probably have a couple of hundred now on diverse things from books, to sf, to all sorts of games, it's like having my own reference libraryif I tried relying on auto complete I'd be very stuck indeed, heck even just among site names there is encyclopedia of arda, encyclopedia WoT, The harry potter encyclopedia, the sf encyclopedia etc etc. This is why I want to get the bookmarks thing sorted. @Brad, I still find Yourtube a preferable alternative to utube for searching  most things, though I do wish it would  channels and playlists. either way as Dongagon said, it's easy to disable the reporting of "clickable" just go into document settings in nvda and hit shift tab twice. There are also some other useful things to set the reporting of there too such as heading level, links etc. Clickable tends to be the only thing I leave Nvda saying, because that is the one thing that has no hotkey. Links headings and other things are possible to find when I'm using hotkeys or even tab, but there doesn't seem to be a way to jump between clickable hotspots. Speaking of Bookmarks, I'm having something rather strange happen. I started off using the beta version of Chrome because I couldn't initially get the regular one to download in ie (see my above  reasons for why I'm looking at chrome in the first place). i decided to switch back to regular Chrome because it didn't strike me as a good idea when trying something out for the first time to be using a potentially rough version. At that point the bookmark manager was a bit of a pest but I could find the button to download new stuff and some of the navigation buttons for moving stuff around, albeit it was still easier to just use the edit from the applications menu as I said. However now I'm back to the standard release, I can't find the option of how to save the bookmarks at all, though this might just be me forgetting where it is.Also, I don't

Re: Trying out google chrome and Nvda

If you use NVDA, you can turn off reporting these settings. JAWS can do this as well, don't ask me how, though. You can do it for the youtube domain if I'm not mistaken.

Re: Trying out google chrome and Nvda

Hello.@dark.I'd go back to Chrome myself but I use youtube quite a lot and it's fast with Chrome but it says clickable a lot when navigating headings with a screen reader on youtube. If you can deal with that, great but it annoyed me quite quickly. The annoying thing about the newest version of Firefox is that  when you press alt left arrow to go back a page in youtube instead of going back, it restarts the video, then you have to press alt left to go back again. Oh and wait about 10 seconds while the page loads.I'm really not happy with the newest version of Firefox and the whole, let's wait 10 seconds while we decide to go back a video then load the page thing, they've got going on.
