Re: Sable - A code free tool for creating RPG's (New beta features video)

Hi everyone,As mentioned in my previous posts, we’ve put the Sable change log up on our website  for anyone who wants to stay up to date on Sable’s development. I’ve just added a new change log entry for Sable Beta version 1.4 which I’ve been working on over the past few weeks. To the people which have posted since my previous post at the start of this month, you’ll be pleased  to know I’ve implemented the additions/features which were discussed here regarding changes to party members, swapping party members out in battle and removing objects once used, there are a few other new additions too which I hope people find useful. It’s a pretty big change log entry (so grab a cup of tea and get comfy before reading it hahaha). Other than the new additions I’ve been mainly working on clearing  an outstanding list of minor cosmetic alterations where a little polish was required, which I’ve now managed to clear, but a big part of the update are those alterations, plus some bug fixing too. If you want to check out the new change log entry I’ll put the link to the change log page below. it’s the top entry for Sable Beta version 1.4 which was updated today.https://ebonskystudios.com/Sable-changelog/Paul LemmEbon Sky Studiosemail: i...@ebonskystudios.comFacebook: https://m.facebook.com/ebonskystudios/Twitter: @ebonskystudiosWebsite www.ebonskystudios.com

Re: Sable - A code free tool for creating RPG's (New beta features video)

I agree. That way each developer could decide which one they think would be most appropriate for their game. Another idea I had would be what mainstream games refer to as party talk. You already see a little of that in A Hero's Call, where you have the ability to converse with whoever happens to be in your active party. Those conversations can reveal background on the characters and in some cases benefit them by raising certain stats of theirs by a point or two. That may be a feature for a Sable update after the initial release but it's something that I see as being important to the story of at least one of my characters.

Morning everyone,Thanks for all your ideas and suggestions around a new player/non active player feature.  , As ever I can’t make any promises, but I’ll definitely have a little play around with a few different ideas and see what works well and should be able  to come up with an effective solution. I’ll answer a couple of posts directly below:@R-D-Productions, thanks for the positive comments, really pleased you are looking forward to both Sable and our first game title too,  it’s great to see people still so interested in the project. @ Dragons, regarding teaser trailers, or just trailers in general, the game design team do intend to put out a few videos about the game as its development evolves. We don’t have specific dates yet for when those videos will be made and put out, but as soon as they are either myself or one of the game design team will be sure to post them here. Paul Lemm

Re: Sable - A code free tool for creating RPG's (New beta features video)

True. It's not uncommon for a character to just leave at some point simply because their work is done, then perhaps rejoin later, again for a brief period. Final Fantasy is known for this. But I like the idea of what you suggested Paul. Aside from Fergus the Leprechaun, "Fergus Ferguson at yer service," there are a few other party members who aren't strictly speaking main characters but who might fight in battle. My main character, Luke, for example, has a feline companion who's sort of a combination of a pet and a familiar. Of course the way she would work in my example might be beyond the scope of what Sable can do, at least in its current form. But Misty wouldn't actually be a controllable character the way Luke or Samantha would, but would instead be sort of like Interceptor in Final Fantasy VI, where as long as Luke was in your party there would be the chance that Misty the Werecat might block and then counter any attack directed at Luke.

Re: Sable - A code free tool for creating RPG's (New beta features video)

Hi,Sorry for the slightly late reply. I’ll answer the questions below:@pates, sorry I think I misunderstood your original question in post 137. But yes, you could already in Sable set an npc to join you after completing a certain quest for them. If you wanted completing a quest to add a totally different npc to  your party, although there’s not a specific option for this, you could do it through in game mechanics/story.  As an example you could have an NPC set you a quest, once complete they say something like I think my son would be interested in joining your party. You then have his son on a map somewhere , you have an event trigger set on the son to join your party, but lock off the event trigger so its only accessible after you complete the quest for the first NPC , that way you can only get the son to join your party by completing the quest for his father and the father mentions about the son joining your party. Hope that makes sense.-    @Brian P. pleased to hear you enjoyed reading through the Sable change logs. Regarding your question about non active party members. This would definitely be possible, the easiest and simplest  solution is to allow you to have as many party members in your group as you like, but as a creator you could decide the maximum amount of people allowed in a battle at any one time. So although you might have say 6 party members, you might set it so only four would be allowed to battle, there would then be an option (both whilst inside a battle and outside of battle too) to switch out a character for another one. This is how final fantasy deals with this (or at least it did up until final fantasy x, but I haven’t played any past that). the alternative is like you said the hero’s call  option of having to drop off and change active party  members at a specific location somewhere on your maps/game world. Out of curiosity which option would people most prefer? As a separate item, it’s worth being aware I do intend to add an event trigger to have a party member leave your party completely, this could be handy if you want for example a party member to permanently die  as part of the storyline, although I appreciate that’s a fairly morbid example! Re: Sable - A code free tool for creating RPG's (New beta features video)

Yeah, from what I read of the change logs the other day the progress is quite impressive. I'd like to see a way for you to have more characters in your party, not necessarily in your active party, that could still be limited to four, but as backup. My game features four main characters but there are a few secondary characters I'd like for the player to be able to swap in and out of the active party. Some mainstream games have a vehicle the party can travel in, which is where the backup characters would hang out. Either that or it could be like A Hero's Call where they hang out at an inn in a particular town and so you'd go there to swap them out. But one of the characters I have is a Leprechaun whose primary ability is the ability to steal things from enemies during battle. He can also pick locks, so there are certain situations where you'll need him.

Re: Sable - A code free tool for creating RPG's (New beta features video)

Hi,@Samuel Farrugia , pleased to hear you enjoyed reading through the Sable change log, it must have taken a while to read through it all since its surprising how much has gone in since the public alpha back in May. To answer your questions, yes there will be an event trigger to get rid of party members. The Ammunition discussion is one that has come up a lot in team meetings here at Ebon Sky Studios. Actually adding ammunition to Sable would be fairly simple,  one of the main reasons it hasn’t been added is that ammunition is obviously used primarily for ranged weapons, although we could easily add ammunition  the question would remain from a mechanical standpoint ‘what makes a ranged weapon different to a melee weapon’. In the second generation of Sable (which I hope to write if the prototype is successful) we wanted to include more advance battle mechanics to add further strategy elements into games,  including things like the ability to set formations/positioning of players and enemies, plus potentially allow for both airborne and ground based enemies, with these in place it would then seem to make more sense adding ranged weapons into the second generation of Sable as they would serve more of a purpose  at that point and there would be Specific benefits to choosing whether  you arm someone with a ranged weapon or not. That’s not to say ammunition couldn’t be added to the current prototype of  Sable if it was something people really wanted to see added,  even if that was without the ranged mechanics planned for the second generation of SablePaul LemEbon Sky Studiosemail: i...@ebonskystudios.comFacebook: https://m.facebook.com/ebonskystudios/Twitter: @ebonskystudios

Maiger props to you guys for working on giving people with no coding knowledge the capability to make their own games. I’ve got a couple of questions that I’d like to ask, regarding possible new features in Sable. Firstly, are there any plans for possibly incorporating an ammo system? As it stands, there’s almost no mechanical difference between creating ranged or close quarters weapons, apart for their respective names and sounds. Secondly, is there going to be a way, were by you can set an event which can remove a member from your party?

Re: Sable - A code free tool for creating RPG's (New beta features video)

Hi everyone,Pleased people seem interested in the Sable change logs I’ve just posted, hope you all find them an interesting read. To answer some of the specific post which have come in:@Toto, regarding Crimson Eclipse, the game design team are busy working away on this, we don’t have a specific date for the release, but as soon as the game design team have more news on the game they’ll be sure to share it. If you want to stay up to date on news and updates you can follow us on social media (links are in my signature).@omer, pleased you liked the change logs, I’m pleased with how much Sable has changed/grown in  just over half a year since the public alpha. Regarding objects disappearing after  they have been used: As seen in the recent video you can create trigger objects which only fire once and have their radar stop after the event trigger has fired, which is why the wolf rustling around in the undergrowth sound stops playing after it was defeated. Currently, as a potential work around to your suggestion, you could create an auto firing, single use trigger object to seem like a chest  and have it disappear after use., for the other standard object types  thoughThere isn’t currently a way of making them disappear after use, but I think it would be a simple addition. I’ll add it to my list of possible future  additions.@Chris Norman, no worries about the broken record thing , honestly I totally get it and understand peoples concerns with the prototype being written in BGT, which is why we always intended to write the full version ( Sable 2) in a full programming language. I stand by the fact that writing Sable as a prototype first was a good idea, it’s my first full project and its taught me so much (including a ton of ways not to do things hahaha), but also let me take onboard all the feedback and comments from the community regarding what they liked, didn’t like and would like to see in future iterations of Sable. My intention is still to release a Sable 2 written in a full language, but whether there is a second generation of Sable or not really all depends on how well received the prototype of Sable is. So Since the prototype hasn’t been released yet I want to avoid making any promises about a Sable 2 at this stage, but to answer your question, yes since I have time spare on my hands whilst the game design team work on the game I’m spending that time working in non BGT languages. I want to avoid this topic turning into either a 'BGT' or a ‘what language is best topic’ since those topics come up enough in the developer room . Hope that helps answer your question slightly, sorry if it’s a little vague, I just want to avoid making any promises this early about Sable 2 before the first one has even been released. as with everything I want to focus conversations around our current Ebon Sky studios projects, development and games, rather than getting caught up in discussions about future plans and projects, as often in development plans have to change or shift to adapt.Paul LemEbon Sky Studiosemail: i...@ebonskystudios.comFacebook: https://m.facebook.com/ebonskystudios/Twitter: @ebonskystudios

@827Hello, it's your least favourite broken record here again:Now you're less busy coding features, does that mean you're going to start work on the non-BGT version of Sable?

Re: Sable - A code free tool for creating RPG's (New beta features video)

Hi everyone,Pleased to see everyone enjoyed the recent Sable beta features video, if you haven’t seen it you can find a link to the video in post 817. As mentioned previously we decided we would display the Sable change log up on our webpage, this way people can see exactly what I’ve been working on and adding to Sable since the public Alpha last year. The change log on our website displays all change logs since Sable alpha 1.11 (Sable 1.10 was the last version released during the public alpha last year) right up to the new beta versions I’ve been working on recently. Since Sable is now feature complete, the focus has shifted over to the game design team who are busily working away on Crimson Eclipse. I will be updating the change log on our website  each time I put out a new Sable version to the team, however since Sable now has everything built in which the game design team require to build Crimson Eclipse, new Sable updates are less frequent now. Anyway, for anyone who wants to check out the Sable change log, I’ll put a link to the change log page below, you can also find the link on our website  (www.ebonskystudios.com) on the products page under the developer tools section. Each change log entry on the page is collapsed,  so simply click any change log you want to read to expand that specific change log. hope some of you find the change log an interesting read, I think you’ll all be pleasantly surprised with how much has gone in since the public alpha ended last May (I’ve definitely been very busy!) , hopefully this also helps people plan their own projects and gives you all a way of staying up to date on Sable’s development too.Link to Change log page:https://ebonskystudios.com/Sable-changelog/Paul LemEbon Sky Studioswww.ebonskystudios.comemail: i...@ebonskystudios.comFacebook: https://m.facebook.com/ebonskystudios/Twitter: @ebonskystudios

Nor can I. In the meantime I can of course still work on the pen and paper stuff, as it were, for Ravenscroft.

Re: Sable - A code free tool for creating RPG's (New beta features video)

Hi everyone,Thanks for all the positive comments about our new video in post 817, pleased people liked it. I’ve got a quick bit of time free before I head over to my parents for Christmas dinner so thought I’d quickly reply to questions which have come in. Threeblacknoises thanks for answering Brian’s question and confirming he could do what he wanted using invisible keys. @toto, there are volume controls in Sable so you can alter battle music volume. The only reason its loud in the video is I threw the map together really quickly yesterday and since the wolf wasn’t already on the map I hadn’t tested the battle before I did the video recording. I was meant to show off the new custom Ebon Sky Studios battle music  our sound designer had created, but I’d been using one of the testers maps and sounds and forgot to replace their battle sounds  and music with ebon sky Studios ones, so the battle music, enemy sounds, victory and reward sounds are all from  one of the testers projects and are not Ebon Sky studios sounds. In this instance it just turns out the sounds used by the tester are louder than the ebon Sky Studios sounds which are  heard throughout the rest of the video, which is why the volume seems louder all of a sudden during the battle. Again,  if I’d tested it first I could have through sable reduced battle music volume, or if I had been using Ebon Sky studios battle music  (as I was meant to but had forgotten to add them), it would have all been at the same volume level. Although you didn’t get to hear the new custom made Ebon  Sky studios battle track  in this video, I’m sure there will be later videos that will show that track off, I especially like the new battle track variants for the different boss battles in  Crimson Eclipse which our sound designer Brian has created,  but you’ll have to wait for the game to hear those ones sorry for the topic name change by the way, but I wanted to shorten the title so I could each time I put out a new video include in the title the name of the new video, so  people just glancing the topic heading easily know there is a new video out and can then check the thread/topic for the video link. Anyway, time for me to head off for Christmas dinner, again thanks for all the positive comments and support of Sable throughout the year and I hope you are all having a fantastic Christmas!Paul LemmEbon Sky Studiosemail: i...@ebonskystudios.comFacebook: https://m.facebook.com/ebonskystudios/Twitter: @ebonskystudios
