Oops, @Aaron wrote a post while one was being composed.Absolutely love the limited use of melee weaponry. We were actually going to do that with ranged weapons as well, and more than likely will.So imagine, if you will, the pmc-44 having a very poor durability. If you didn't allow it time to cool down and fired several dozen rounds in under a minute, yeah, no more pmc-44. Where as your starting weapon would be almost immune to that. Keyword almost.How about a system in where enemies might sometimes be able to yank your current weapon away from you and either break it, or use it against you?That feels like the ultimate evil, but it's something worth considering IMHO.

@defender,So when we ran out of funding there were a couple options we could have taken.Option 1. Make the game paid, introduce authentication tokens and servers and databases, doing a bunch of key verification checks and so on. Point being, the more that I specifically thought of to make key registration secure enough, the less convenient it would have been for players to register copies of the game.Quite honestly, I had way, way better things to do than keep track of anti-piracy measures.So we went with option 2, which was to set up a campaign where people could choose to support the game if they wanted to. This way, the game was still available to everyone to play and complete. Plus there's the fact that some countries (surprisingly) still don't access to paypal.As for stretch goals, none have really come to mind. Full voiced cut scenes aren't on the priority list since it doesn't exactly feel like it'd fit in very well in a game like this.Apart from music and sound effects, (which are pretty expensive in their own right) we were planning on taking the finished story to an editor such that it could be improved and corrected as needed. There's also voice acting for one, maybe up to 3 additional characters you will occasionally get the chance to play as.One such example would be Alex, after her and her teammates are discovered and she and the team must fight off the soldiers. Still going over the details of that, though we're pretty clear on a vision for that specific scene.Take care,The Phantom Creations team.

Definitely have items that can heal you, in a mainstream beat em up you'd just pick them up and get health back, for the most part. So no inventory as such.If you pick up a knife, the attack button will of course use that. You either: keep that weapon until it breaks, or you're knocked down, or die, whichever happens first. There are other items like barrels which are one use, I don't know if knives can also be thrown or not. When I had a knife, tapping the attack button kept on using it until I was knocked down, so that's the use I definitely know about.

Hello,First of all I want to apologize to those who have been sending emails, it appears our smtp server is having issues.To those wondering if 1.3 does eventually end, yes, it does. You just have to survive long enough. Of course, that's way easier than it sounds...So @assault freak, @Aaron, @BlindNinja and the cheese wheel.One of the first things we're going to focus on after the campaign ends is stripping the combat systems down to simple punches, then rebuilding it with at least 3 possible combos.Just trying to think of a system that would work and make sense in a game like this where your often swarmed on all sides, and you don't often have time to reload your weapon.I really like what all star batnet did where you had A and b. I figured out that if you were running and held A then really quickly added an opposing arrow, you would jump back a few squares. I got really good at being able to charge enemies that way, though unpredictability of it was what really made it something worth trying.Not saying that will or won't be our combo system, but that's what Lauren and I initially thought of when improving combos and the melee mechanics in general.Since you 4 seem to have the most experience in mainstream games, I would really love to sit down with you some time in the future whenever the campaign ends to brainstorm some mechanics that would make sense and be fun and addicting in a game like this. I can already tell you (meaning everyone) that I've seen some players get immense enjoyment out of kicking enemies sending them flying halfway across the screen.Really passionate about developing this game to it's fullest potential, within reason. At most, I think the combos will be limited to 2 buttons. Adding the arrow keys would do things, although I don't want to get into a system where you have a hole cluster of buttons to memorize. That being said, all of you are more than welcome to continue leaving feedback here. Well yes, yu can. Air combos are a thing, just not in beat em ups.My point in stating that things should be simple to start is that this game's combat system needs to get the basics right before experimenting with al the extras that cheeseWheel is talking about. And the reason for the delay timing in those games is, remember, because theyare actual attacks, and each attack takes time to execute because visually, animations take frames. The problem is how to give that kind of similar response purely with audio, without animations. How to time two jabs, a hook, and a spinning kick, for example. And most blind people have never performed that combination in real life let alone do it regularly as part of training so aren't aware of how fast it would realistically be. It's easier just to ave one generic atack, like this game or adventure at C:, that just comes out as fast as you can mash the attack button.

If anyone can, I'd recommend trying either Battle Circuit, or Warriors of Fate, from the Capcom Beat Em Up bundle, as these two demonstrate the combo system we're on about, including the mashing the air thing, but once you start hitting, each hit is then timed, it's not four rapid hits at any time, there's a little delay between each one that the game forces, I don't really know how to describe it. So even if you mash, the game will still delay it. It's not about timing the button press, but it's the game that does the timing for you. Also, these two have stereo sound. The fourth hit always acts as a knockback. Although, back then, I don't think there was a rage meter, so if the melee system does get some sort of revamp, I'm wondering how rage will, eventually, be factored in. Cheesewheel idea is also fairly interesting but if you're trying to get to different positions and things, I don't know if you want too many keys especially with an arrow keys for movement setup. YOu can't exactly use up arrow to jump then j k j k j for a combo or whatever.

Well, you don't want to source keys from all over the keyboard for things you can use your attack buttons for, but yes, some variant of one of your attack buttons plus up would work. I would also loove to see controller / gamepad support as well... here's hoping. Not just that, but with proper rumbles as well when you get hit hard, block a heavy attack or land a damaging blow.

All there really needs is to be one combo. Press space up to four times, and each one is a different attack. The last one, whatever the number of blows is, is always a heavy attack that has blowback or knockdown. Or the attack button in conjunction with the arrow keys. The key is to not overcomplicate it. Final fight had two attacks. A standard combo and a jumping attack. there was also one special move that would clear the screen but also drain a little of your health. That litterally was it... and that formula is still used today. The challenge was with enemies that had different attack patterns and trying to anticipate for all the different moving pieces with a very simple set up of your own. But the right amount of complexity can be good too. But it's quality over quantity, for sure.As for close combat stuff... I mean, this is close quarters combat. But there would never be a choking mechanic unless it was a stealth section. You can't choke out one guy when there are five others trying to get on your back. lol I do like the idea with slitting throats though, or some sort of well timed instakill. But knives don't even exist in the concept demo.

To be honest I am more a fan of the 3 button attack system. I have the feeling that creating combos or different attacks with directional inputs might be better with a multy button system. Sure, you could use one button with different hold times or tapping it multiple times, but I really like the 3 button system together with possible directional inputs for more attack variation.Greetings Moritz.

You can still do a lot with two buttons. Or even one. It's down to getting creative with it. Like with the space bar, track how long it has been held, that build heavier attacks, a tap is a light attack. A double tap and hold is a jab straight then a kick or something like that as a combo.I would like to see a block option though. Not only that, but smarter enemies that try other things rather than just standing there and pummeling you or getting pummeled themselves. Make them cagy, hit a few times, then jump over you and turn around and hit some more. If they go for a block option, make it facing dependent, i.e. you can't block a dude on the right by facing left. Holding the block should diminish in effectiveness the more you do it. It's good to catch your breath, but not a way to just stand there and take endless punches. If an attack gets through, your guard is broken and you need to release the block key and press it again.A way to go for an anti-air would be nice too. Make them fall and be stunned for a short while. I also thought of some close quarters combat stuff, but I don't think that's right for this game, as much as I like slitting throats and choking people out.There could also be a dash, though more of a short sprint with a cool down by double tapping a direction. Launching an attack while dashing would make it more powerful. Conversely, if you are dashing, and you run straight into an attack, it should hit you harder. The only potential problem I see with that is people who want to be extra careful with their platforming accidentally triggering it.

Agreed with 129... a three attack system isn't strictly necessary IMO. Maybe two at best, depends what you guys wanna go for. Light and heavy? Also means you can have better control over a combo system.

@127. I'm not in favour of a light edium heavy system because that kind of complexity is seen mostly in fighting games. Beat em ups really only need one button, maybe two at best... but again, that's just imo. No need for anything other than a basic block, either. Hybrids that try and combine complexity of fighting games and beat em ups are usually more style than substance... and I like your suggestionabout the rage meter, other than te fact that jumping will decrease it. That's franklyunnecessary... and I lso think that a really good player, in point of fact, will be able to keep rage mode activated for the duration of a whole area if they're skilled enough and if the rage system is properly done.

Here are some suggestions. First of all, light attack, medium attack, heavy attack and block. That's all the buttons you really need for melee. You could make throws by simultaneously hitting light and heavy, you can stun an enemy by blocking at just the right time ( similar to a flawless block in MK ). And you could have so many combos with just those.The rage meter, OK, so rather than one misstep killing it, here is my suggestion. First, I really really don't like the way it is now where you're getting pounded on and you just have to punch reeal ral slow. That doesn't make sense to me. So here's what I think. After four successive strikes at any speed, the meter will start to fill. Landing more strikes fills the meter more, being struck reduces it. Jumping reduces it by say 30% but won't nullify it necessarily. Blocking strikes will neither cause it to fill nor to drain. Pulling off a counter attack ( by first blocking at just the right time, then taking advantage of their stunned state to launch strikes ) should fill it by 30%. Also, landing a successful throw should increase it as well.When the meter fills and you're in rage mode, it drains like an hourglass but faster. Launching successful throws, combos, not getting hit and landing counter attacks are all ways to stay in rage mode. Being hit too many times in a short amount of time will drain it very rapidly. Also, using guns in rage mode should make them wildly inaccurate and cause the meter to drain faster. If you launch a throw but it is tekked, you lose some rage, but if you are thrown, it reduces by half.As for stats, I think any successful combo should yield an increase, even if it's a very very small one. They'll add up over time. In rage mode, successful combos, throws, and counter attacks could multiply the stat gain by a certain amount.If a player can manage to stay in rage mode for all of the enemies in a level, it's not balanced right. Rage mode should be relative short if you don't work to keep it up, and even then, that should only slow the drain. Unless someone's really damn good, they won't be able to over turn it and start building back up.I see your kickstarter got smashed within like two days. That's really cool and I'm glad to see that, because this game definitely deserves to be made. I just want to see the melee system match the rest of the dopeness that this game is, and I think that will happen.

Definitely agreed with 120 and 122. IMO, the rage meter should be after a number of consecutive hits, but it doesn't have to be seven slow ass hits that require you to at least take some damage. In a fast paced beat em up like this slowing down just to get rage breaks the pace and flow, imo. Just make it 30 or so consecutive hits without being hit once or the count resets which then requires better hit physics. As Lirin said, the enemy you are fighting should not be able to hit you while you are hitting them at the same time with no effects. And even a preset four hit combo like the streets of rage series would be fine. Plenty of games do this. If you hit at the air, the attack button with fire off as many attacks as you like but once the first hit connects it goes into a preset string.

so far i'm doing 1-3 and I can't seem to be able to win here. I get shot like 50 times at the same time and just loose all my hp and the weapons you get there take so long to reload. not sure if the aa12 is good or not but you just can't take them out with all 300 bullets you get for that machinegun, wish you could just dstroy those trucks.

I mean, this rage meter is kinda weird for me. That would be interesting to see a meters similar to these in video games. You are building it by getting hit / hitting everyone and when it is full you can simpy use that.

So, my thoughts and impressions so far:I love the concept, sound design and  music! STory seems to be pretty basic but what abou the gameplay? Well, that's the problem there: I can see a HUGE inspiration from BK3 which is really a positive but the combat mechanic looks like really chaotic without any logic of attacking / defending / lack of dodging etc. No combos, even no combo-presets like in streets of rage series and so on plus no matter if you're attacking an enemy he will still attack you so that is not working properly in my mind.This momentum thing si really cool but you need to gegt used to it and it could take a while.My feelings are positive though and this game is really potnetial to be better when Omar will go in the right direction. I'll trust them and back the game so I hope my testing will help improving some areas of the game based on my experiences gained by playing a LOT ov video games.

spoilerMy recommendation would be to start with the machine guns then grab the AR12 for the end, because as you battle, there will be more and more enemies. The AR12 has scatter shot meaning it'll hit multiple enemies.

So, at the start, see if you can get an AA12 if you have an autamatic weapon just wen you jump on it shoot them and grav it, then go to the other won and put your rage up. and boost your stats, wen your tired of that, go down and shoot, they are in waves. so you half to kill all of them.

At the moment, at least in the build I have, there wasn't a sound for when you could kick, unless that's now changed. I just hit the enemies seven times fairly quickly and then held down arrow and pressed space fairly quick, and one (yes just one) of the enemies went flying.By the way, does anyone have any tips on how to deal with mines and somehow make them explode without you taking damage? I've somehow experienced it but had no idea how, seems to do with jumping but I can't get this consistently at all, most of the time I'll either land on a mine or a step away and die, or if I juump over, I'll land too far from it and it'll be the other way. I've tried approaching from the front and the back.

I can kind of see the point but the not saving boss levels does not play nice with level 2.2 with the earlier levels it does though so maybe they should allow only certain boss levels to save as you can not grind in 2.2

Hello,The game sounds awesome, I backed it by a very small amount. If you look at the current rate of currency for Turkey, you will see why I chose such a small amount, plus there is the commission fee of the bank.Anyway, onto my opinions for the game:Level 2.2 should be tweaked a little bit, because I cannot get past the mines while there are drones and the turrets attacking me, it makes too much noise and makes me panic so I jump at the wrong time or the wrong placeTo the people that cannot defeat the soldiers at the trucks:You have underestimated the power of flying kick too much. Simply do a running jump and keep pressing the space bar. It will both keep you in the air, preventing the bullets hitting you, and you can defeat them boom boom.I did like that 95% of the time during that level. Of course I had to wait like half an hour for my health to regen, but this is another story.A feature to go back level could be added for grinding, to increase the stats and so on.Like I said above, I liked the game so much, but I am annoyed that I cannot get past the mines and the game is detected as a virus, I can of course allow the game to run from windows defender, but it is annoying nevertheless.Thanks to whomever worked on this and backed this game and making it a reality!I was so bored of those simple, low quality  clone games really, this game made a huge difference.If you have managed to read until the end of this post, can you please make an auto update feature? This will make the updating process easier.Thanks for reading and sorry for the very long post!

yup, this kick is defenetly a cool edition on croud control, hoping for more combo soon. for everyone if you want to make your kick always work, just hold down arrow and punch quickly. the problem with that is you'll not send your enemy away too far, if you want to though, just punch quickly around 8 or 9 times and hold down and punch once again.@phantom: can you make that if you die and return to your check point, your health will be restored to 100 percent? because IMO with the current system it might produce a softlock in the future. actualy if you perform bad enough on 1.1 and hit the checkpoint before the drawbridge with  low health, it's hard for you to survive the rest of the level. continue to the right and the soldier with machinegun will greet you with ammo and insta kill you, and thus, you end up in a softlock. yeah I know you're health will regen overtime but it's a long-long wait. it's kind of remind me to technoshock and tdv, if you save on the wrong spot, you're done.I am also hoping for a difficulty level selection since sometimes I don't want to be bother with the difficulty and would like to boot up the game and beat em up.

Yeah, agreed about the boss saving. Phantom's reasoning for that is if you go in with shit stats, you can re-get them, but that just makes it more annoying IMO, you should keep an eye on your stats.

before saying my opinion about the demo, I'm trying to finish it... and in the trucks level, do you really neeed the a12 to continue? i still got the pc 44 and  doing... half fine with it. didn't pass the level yet, though.later editok so I got the update and trying to do the kicks combo and I'm not sure if it works or not, cause I can't hear any difference. even if i land 6 slow strikes on enemies and then hold my down arrow after that and press space, nothing seems to be different. I got a good pair of headphones, and i'm listenning very intently. any tips?

@titan_of_war:There is a slightly different sound when kicking. You need toh ave landed 6 or more consecutive attacks first. If you can't tell the difference in sound, perhaps a better pair of headphones might help.

If you don't want to keep trying it's not the best weapon, it helps but it isn't the best, but what i did was. jump do a run jump and in mid air let og of control so you can land safely on the other platform. do that for each platform, but use your camra to see how big the jump is, because sometimes you don't even need to do a running jump at all.

I still can't quite get the jump right.No matter what I try, my momentum still carries me off the platform and I fall and lose health points.  I am in level 1.1 and am standing at the tree at coordinates 122,0, which does not show up in the object viewer by the way.I climb the tree and end up at 122,20.How do I safely jump over to the platform at 115,20?Everything I've tried, even pushing the right arrow in mid air doesn't help.Obviously I need to get the timing correct, but I can't seem to do that.Can anyone help?Thanks.

Just tried the new build. The combos don't really feel any different... if I didn't know it would feel pretty much the same as before. Especially because enemies keep hitting you... it's prettyhard to tell if I'm executing it corectly, aside from the second one with the kick that I can occasionally get.

oh, and the people who want and have failled to get the weapon on level 2.1 this is what i did. so wen you kill the gi on the sniping thing and climb down, go rite of the stairs just 1 or 2 tiles. and jump over the mine a few times, sometimes the mine will go off wen you are jumping over it and it can't hit you and then it's safe to grav the weapon.

Hey would it be possible in a later version for med kits to spawn on soldiers mabey not every soldier but a few so you can heal, because i'm in the level with the trucks, no problem, and a few soldiers are left, but i'm 5% helf, and there's a machine gun. so i half to wait for ever to even have 20 helf.

I've tried the new build, and I am loving the repeat story options now. Also, can't seem to get the down arrow combo to work consistently, because, well, I'm just being attacked by the time I get four or so strikes in, so even though I hit an enemy perhaps 8 or so times, if I hold down and attack, I seem to just punch. I also don't quite understand how the new rage combo works.

Hi,Can I just say, very, very nice job on this game. I hope there will be an update to the tutorial on how to use the combo system added to the concept demo.I'm wondering if you might be able to put in a quick fix for something. Could you please, for story viewer, add, at the very least for this, the four arrow keys to repeat the story text, or, possibly the c key to copy to clipboard for those who might like that? The only issue with the clipboard coyping, is the bug where people report that if you alt tab from the program, the window can't be found again, so maybe for now just have the repeat function until that bug can be fixed. I've missed two story texts, one in level 1 when climbing, and one when approaching the first area's travel point.

Agreed re: area 1-3.spoilerGet rid of as many enemies while on the first truck as possible, as those are unarmed. They will eventually stop coming after you, so in the inbetween times when you are ininsible, run off the truck, waste a half dozen or so armed guards while they can't hit you, and do a running jump back to the truck. If luck is on your side, one of the armed guards will drop an AA12 as loot, so you won't need to go as close to the second truck. Once you have that, you've got enough cartridges to get you through. ONce you've destroyed all the guards, it's over and you'll get a cutscene. It's alright if you're low on ammo by the time you win the level, since you will have picked up enough ammo to last you a while through the second level, and you'll have another more powerful weapon to pick up. You have less rounds per cartridge, but the damage makes up for it.

They actually do jump and climb after you. That's not the issue imo. But those who play mainstream beat em ups will understand what makes them more reasonably challenging. But like I keep saying, this is onl a concept demo, and I expect, or at least hope, that some of the things here will be taken into account. That or there will be people on the development team or at least brought onto the testing branch who have long experience with mainstream games in this specific genre.

Actually, if you time it right, invincibility does last long enough to run down there and grab it, then punch more enemies on the trucks until you get it again, run down and own some of the ones on the ground with a gun, repeat.

K, so a few things hear, and i guess alot of this stuf that i'm about to say  has all ready bin said hear but. for level 1.3 it's all most inpossible imo, i've dun it 2 or 3 times now, but sitting there doing alot of rage doesn't really boost your stats, and the truck on the rite sends out so much soldiers at a time that it's hard to keep them from over running you. because you see, you run out of ammo. you go to grav a smg or a gun in between 2 trucks and, all of a sudden, it's like well. 3 4 machine guns with mabey a few AA12's just opening fire and there's no way to get past that unless your invinsable, and even that doesn't last long in uf. so yeah.

@70, you're right. Everyone sees this differently. I don't see it as a challenge because it's not a fair contest. You can't fight 20 or 30 enemies on screen if they all have ridiculous amounts of health and you're wanting to play strategically and conserve ammo. At least, not that I've found... for me personally, and I know others will say different, the game throwing an unfair amount of enemies at you isn't challenging, it's just aggrivating. I'd rather have 10 enemies that had good AI and were tougher to kill. That would be a challenge. Sheer enemy numbers do not a challenge make. haha. Or, if your stats actually lined up and increased to the point where you could actually reasonably deal with all those enemies, that'd be different as well. And as defender said, AI needs to be improved as ell... because right now all enemies do is run towards you, stand on the same tile as you and whack away.

A for the platforming this is what i did, i climbed up went to the ej and make sure you use your camra, see how big the jumps are, so wen you start jumping do a running jump but then wen you fiel like it, let go of control so you can do a like walking jump i guess so you don't have momentom or not as much.

I love the platforming part. it took me a little bit to figure it out but i finally got it. for the longer jumps hold down the control key it seems to get you farther, and do regular jumps when you do the shorter jumps. it takes some time to get used to the momentum thing, but it works.  And as for the many enemies on the map, its part of the fun, challenge. but thats just me, and others do see it different.  How do you gain higher stats? i slowed down my punches and smashed a bunch of enemies down for a while but the numbers never wnet up

Combat is definitely not challenging in this game... unbalanced, maybe, but especially after playing a couple more rounds and making some decent progress, it's quite apparent. There are way too many enemies on the screen at the same time,especially with guns. You can't take them all out without blowing your ammo, and because of how much health some of those enemies have, by the time you're at that level, attack and defense stats are just not high enough to deal with them quickly and you have to sit there and keep rage mode basically activated as long as you can, or buy yourself enough time to bring the gun out and shoot. I still think this game needs some sort of cmbo system, or at least, have all the minor enemies be taken care of in 6 or so hits like in the tutorial and the first area. That gives you a fighting chance, at least. Or, if you want to have enemies with higher amonts of health, put no more than five onscreen, because the enemies on screen compared to the tools you have to deal with them is simply unfair right now. I stood on the left truck in 2.1 for probably about 10 minutes just wailing on enemies. Sure I could jump down and run past them to grab the AA12, but I should be able to take them all out if I want to increase my stats.  And having to slow down your punches to activate rage mode doesn't make any sense when you are swarmed on all sides.
