I might be interested in making a sound mod, but will wait till there is an official update to do so, if indeed there will be one.

Re: Sengoku Jidai: does anyone play this?

I'd have to recheck, a little more, since it's a long while since I played the game, but confusion was mostly my major feeling I'm afraid.I think this should be my signature, since it's an appropriate response to just about everything I do.Re: sounds, what I didn't own I recorded myself (hence, the terrible footsteps). Hadi gave me a free soundpack that I used to replace some of the worst combat sounds, but I couldn't really replace much. They're not encrypted or anything. If someone wants to mod, let them mod.I do like the block sounds, on the grounds that have you heard stock sword impact sounds? They're all clang, but so soft, like the combatants forgot they were trying to kill each other! Sure, mine are just me whacking a steel swiffer handle and a piece of 3/4in PVC together, captured with a toddler's karyoke mic, but at least you could believe that would have hurt someone had it hit flesh.(What? You don't actually need to hit that hard with a sword, and actually should generally aim for a specific power level to optimize the cut? Oh, fine; replace pipehit and pipeblock with dainty clangy, if you insist. )But yeah, it needs to be more organized overall. Currently requires way too much micromanagement.

Re: Sengoku Jidai: does anyone play this?

Less characters to worry about would be nice, also if they could auto assign themselves based on their situation. Also, how do you guys feel about the sound? Personally, and according to my memory, it sounds a little dry, and not exactly the type of sounds that I would associate with a game about japanese people, but maybe that's just me. Not that they don't accomplish their purpose, they probably do. Just feels a little bit generic I guess, but I dont say this to knock the game. It is a great concept, especially the idea of playing through some japanese history sounds intriguing because few audiogames if any do this at all, just feel like sounds could be better.

Re: Sengoku Jidai: does anyone play this?

As I remember Cae, my main issue with the game was giving you control over so dam many characters, all of whom had japanese names got rather confusing, especially when directing them to do things, EG wander around the map and gather food or items. It might be a little better if the game worked a bit more like castaways, with you able to look through job assignments and get more of a map overview, or at least for those people not on exclusively military duties to be taken off direct control. I'd have to recheck, a little more, since it's a long while since I played the game, but confusion was mostly my major feeling I'm afraid.

Re: Sengoku Jidai: does anyone play this?

@6: thumbs up. It's frustrating how much easier it is to get violent games sharable compared to exploration games, but the complexity in building the latter is a lot higher. And then half the time it turns into the JFIMA anyway, though I guess you don't actually have to kill any humans there ... it's implied that the Tengas sometimes die? ... Who'm'I kidding; nobody's played that game long enough to fight Tengas.

Re: Sengoku Jidai: does anyone play this?

The multiplayer element is desperately broken, but that's OK because there isn't a stable server. If I update it, I'm changing the ninja weapons to be less OP. I tried doing a recording yesterday after this thread (it was too boring to save), and over half my deaths were "and then you died somehow, silently." As I recall, the blow-dart is way more powerful than it has any business being, and doesn't pretend to do anything but damage, when it really should be a random damage, fatigue/hunger inducing effect. But more importantly, the AI is crap at resource management. You can distribute food through campsites because I got tired of the AI being so bad at feeding itself and couldn't get it to do so correctly. I suppose the one interesting thing I found during that recording was a group of enemy troops that were standing around, even though they were starving, because one guy kept shouting at them to stay. So I took out that guy, and they were free to go get food. Then I died, but whatever.I have no idea how to improve castle construction, but that aspect desperately needs to be better. Taking suggestions, I guess.

Re: Sengoku Jidai: does anyone play this?

@7 I think 2.6 is actually the latest version. I could be wrong though. It would be cool if you could continue development  on this game--it's the only audiogame of its kind that I know of on PC. Admittedly I'm more of a single player and probably won't really appreciate the work that goes into the multiplayer aspect of the game, but having a game like this to play is cool.

What's the latest version going around? I think I have a 2.6 somewhere, if I can find it, though I think it was just tweaking things to get behavior / stats to work better.

Re: Sengoku Jidai: does anyone play this?

I don't play this game, simpley because I hate killing other people, Japanese people in particular. It's not that I can't stand killing, I just don't like games wear the goal is to kill, kill, kill... Games like the Bokurano Dibouken series, Manamon, Pokemon, and other games are fine. The only ones I really hate are games wear you get on a server and shoot people with guns.

Re: Sengoku Jidai: does anyone play this?

I love the world and story of the game, but the interface is rather confusing, which is a shame. Did not manage to get far before getting killed, and at the time I stopped, I figured it was probably because the necessary micromanagement was too much for me to handle.

Re: Sengoku Jidai: does anyone play this?

Sadly as you said, the game very much remained in beta, and it wasn't for example clear when your various people were doing things or what messages were going where. Like many of Cae Jones projects, the idea behind this is awesome, the execution really good, but it just needs a bit more work on the interface, events and general coherence to be really playable.

Sengoku Jidai: does anyone play this?

So I decided to do a search for samurai audiogames. Naturally a Google search came up with audiogame hub and the blind Samurai for ANdroid. Then I recalled someone mentioning the only PC samurai audiogame around right now and went looking. It seems like a really cool game--so sad it never made it out of the beta stage. Like the story of Castaways 2, which is way more atmospheric than its predecessor, but I digress. Does anyone play Sengoku? Any tips for playing? And a bit off the subject of this post, does anyone still play DLE? Is there a way to get playing with a linear story or is it all about the cool game play?
