Re: What is the Coolest Experience You've Ever Had

The coolest? I have too many of that in my life. Everything's a shade of memory, every bit worth keeping for me. Well not every bit but still. But to name one:When my student/best friend saw my true color:Her name is Kath, but I call her cat so it goes along with how she calls me dog. I had to be her personal English tutor in uni because she couldn't find any volunteer to help her. And since we were both blind and I was pretty much the only one in the disabled dorm zone who knew English (I still suck now), she came to me for help. Most of the teaching went with me trying to teach her, her taking ages to get it right, me yelling at her in a friendly remark to "freaking remember already, you puny". She was a slow learner. She'd do one question in her homework right but got the next completely wrong when it used the same method as the first. She was indeed puny though. She was quite an undaring type. She didn't dare running because she was afraid she'd crash into things. She was uncomfortable when someone was being harsh to her, something I didn't realize until it was almost too late. Let's just say her personality was nearly a complete opposite of mine, when I was loud and blunt with no intention to harm anyone. But of course what I did back then harmed her, and she didn't give a word. While I myself thought playful yelling like that would lighten the mood of the teaching rather than making myself sound like a serious pro, little did I know it made her afraid of me. She never said, never did anything as a signal. She just thought someone like me couldn't be that soft. (She got my yelling completely wrong too. I didn't yell at her in insulting cursing way or anything of that sort. She already had the impression of me being a nerdy know it all student who wouldn't look down at her just because I was good (which I had no idea where she got it from since I was none of that)). I never, ever had an intention to press her to "freaking get it" as I said. But she took it that way and pressured herself when she didn't live up to my expectation, something I still consider a grave mistake in my life. (I didn't expect for her to be good. I just wanted to help her pass midterm and final already and she just kept messing up).One day in the third semester of our first year, we enrolled in the same class, fundamental Buddhism. Our senior student, Ta, tutored her and I was there to listen, not because I wanted the knowledge. I had nothing to do and was bored so I guessed I'd join in. I had no idea it could lead to something big in my memory. Ta knew Kath before she came to uni, so she intentionally tutored her and remarked whatever she wanted to "teach" her, which in turn made Kath very depressed. This student/friend of mine was a softy, sheltered, protected, vulnerable to pretty much anything in the world. Anything hard and harsh could easily depress her. My way of teaching was one, and her Buddhism tutor's pressure was one as well. She'd get to a certain point that said something she saw was Kath's weak spot, then she'd phrase and rephrase it just for the sake of depressing her. Then all of a sudden, Kath crashed. She had a really big outburst over what her tutor tried to pierce her heart over and over and over. I was there, still and silent. I didn't even know there was a big explosive volcano in her heart, not until all the lava came flowing at me that was. In the end, Ta had to leave. But I couldn't. I just couldn't. I moved to the spot Ta used to be, beside Kath to be exact. I gave her a hug, let her cry on my shoulder and said, "If you wanna let it out, let it. I have all the time in my life for you."My roommate interrupted it by calling me for dinner. I had to leave. But her sobbing and crying just didn't leave my head. I couldn't eat and ended up leaving after taking only a spoonful. I went back to her room. She was still crying. I was there the whole evening, letting her cry to her heart's content. It was then that she told me how much she was afraid of me and never thought I'd have such a heart to be by her side and comfort her like that. It was by the same time that I realized how much my loud personality could be taken seriously wrong. I ended up staying with her the whole night, telling her to wake me up anytime if she wanted to talk. We've been really close friends ever since that time. She supported me hugely in my darkest time of life. We'd go out of our ways to help each other and extend it to help others as much as we could. She's not soft and innocent to the world as much anymore due to some hardship, but she's still someone I always feel like protecting. We laugh at the joke she once was offended. I still call her puny, but only for us to smile together. She calls me dog too, playing with tone change in my nickname (Mars). It's been four years already, almost five even, and we sometimes reflect on t

Re: What is the Coolest Experience You've Ever Had

I don't even know where to begin, because I feel very lucky.Let's separate this post into techy, and real world, experiences.Techy:Firstly, without a doubt, Discovering this very website. I've never looked back. I check it every day as part of my routine unless something absolutely crazy is distracting me.Joint first: getting my own credit card and PayPal account. I absolutely love the fact I am an adult and I can get what I'd like to get, and yes, I've used this to help others as well. I joined in with the Hero's Call gifting train I think it was Nocturnus who asked the rest of the staff at the time if they'd like to contribute, and of course I joined in with that.Getting invited to Erion's TeamTalk server, and getting to chat to Pitermach via voice. Back then, it was great to finally talk about Light Cars the Heavy Edition, the Star Trek Klango theme and such, and finally say htank you to him for all the work over the years. I'm still part of that server, and in fact, this server's going to factor into a real world story in a minute.A hybrid experience is discovering Hallmark, getting sad that they didn't ship to the UK, then finding a website that shipped Hallmark stuff to the UK and getting my first parcel was such a fun experience. Hllmark sell noisy Christmas and Halloween ornaments.real world:Feel The Force Day. This is an event in Peterborough in the UK, it's a fairly long drive from where I live, but essentially, it lets me meet different characters from all sorts of different franchises. This has lead to all sorts of stuff, including actually getting the chance to meet the one and only forumight known as Dark, in person. Oh, not that he's the one and only forumight ever in existance, I mean look at this topic, we've got several forumights in here including myself. Anyway, it was great chatting to Dark in person about how his day at the event went and also, again, say thank you for everything over the years. My 2015 trip to Orlando Florida. I got to go to Disney and Universal, and this time, I'd read about all the easter eggs, so I could really appreciate stuff. It was great to see things from an adult lens and appreciate all the subtle audio moments. My 2016 trip to Texas. As part of this trip, I had the very lucky chance to drive a four by four.Well, I was so hyped afterwoods that when I went on Teamtalk to tell everyone about my day, who should be there but both Erion and Pitermach, and I'm not kidding when I say that they had to keep on asking me to calm down because I was yelling so much, and it took me a good minute or so until I finally got the message, yeash. No regrets though, at all!I also got to fire some guns, including an AR15, a Glok and some sort of gun that you could coc, I think it was an actual pistol. I also got to, I think, fire a shotgun as well.It was unique to say the least.I got to go to California this year, in August. There, I got to go to Disneyland for a few days, and I got to experience Star Wars Galaxy's Edge, as part of that. Let me tell you that we spent three hours, in that one area, it was really quite detailed. Then, on the last day of the Disney part, my Grandad met us there and we took a road trip. Driving down the road, listening to Beach Boys music, actually made me cry. Then, we arrived in Santa Cruz. There's so many experiences in California that I don't exactly know where to begin. We got to go to the boardwalk and I got to ride a roller coaster from 1924, the Giant Dipper. We got to go to San Francisco, and experience Alkatraz. But for me, that wasn't the coolest part.On a recommendation from fellow forumight SightlessKombat who sometimes comes here, we checked out the Musée Mecanique. This was a place with loads (and I do mean loads) of old style machines from way back when, from the arcade games of the 80's, to going much much further back. My favourite part of this was hearing the self playing instrument machines, self playing pianos and organs and stuff. In Santa Cruz, they had a Hallmark in person. It was great seeing the new ornaments for this year, at their year of release, in person, and being able to buy them in person as well. You can bet that I ended up spending a lot.Long may the cool experiences continue!

Re: What is the Coolest Experience You've Ever Had

Hi there, well, I have perhaps quite different measures for cool experiences, as what I like the most is when I manage to beat a challenge, especially hardone. However I have also few from real world, I think among the most intensives flying in a wind tunnel.I did this few times, and it was totally awesome! If you have never heard about wind tunnels, you can imagine it like a giant tube placed vertically, like a straw in your glass. On the bottom is a giant fan, which blows a high-speed wind to the tube (that's why it's called wind tunnel). When you go inside, you are grabbed immediately by a huge air power, pushing you upward. You can control this force by changing your resistance area i.e. when you're lying parallel to the ground with your face pointing down, you will rise as you're exposing the largest possible area, while if you for example lift your head, you change the upward lift under your body and can descend instead. With few tricks like thatone just mentioned, you can... well... fly, in its true meaning. You can do whatever you want, from entering various body positions, which you normally don't find yourself in, to a very quick and dinamic flying, including moving in space to all directions, making somersaults, rotating, jerking and other cool stuff. I have tried various kinds of movement, like driving a motocycle, or a water scooter, but nothing vent close to thisone. It's an absolute freedom, one of the very few moments in your life, when you're not touching anything.I guess jumping with a parachute would be somewhat similar, although for a shorter period of time, as you need to land sooner or later. My flying adventures lasted for about three minutes each, but even if I absolved just one, those would be really three minutes, which I'd never forget.Only thing to be careful about is flying out of the tube. Just flowing through the door isn't a good idea, as nothing will hold you in the air behind them. Keep it in mind if you decide to try it yourself. Best regardsRastislav

Re: What is the Coolest Experience You've Ever Had

Well July third 2016 in Pencilvania getting married would probably be top of the list, particularly counting  fun bits of music we both sang and had played during the wedding, we used James Horner's theme from cocoon as the processional, welcome to , Jurassic park as the recessional, and several other themes like John Barry's abortive score for prince of tides afterwards. We also wrote our own service, which in  my lady's priest did a very nice job of even though it clearly wasn't the tradition or attitude he usually had, and we both sang, doing one hand one heart from westside story, as a duette, with me doing a lovely hym set to the tune of danny boy, and my lady singing candle on the water from pete's dragon. I've however done various other random and interesting things myself. These include getting into the guinnis book of reccords in 2006  being part of an effort to do all 13 Gilbert annd sullivan operettas in under 24 hours (we did them in 29 hours ten minutes and I principled in two of them). I've performed solo at Buxton opera house in front of two thousand people and also got to heckle the audience at one  whilst pretending to be a ridiculously snooty and stuck up   lord in  production of Iolanthe in 2012, I've also done everything from cross country skeeing, to water skeeing, to swimming down a white water rafting course, to bridge swinging 60 feet down at one point, as well as several bits of rock climbing, though again not too recently and something I'd like to do again. I've done wind serfing as well, though not for quite a while. I've driven a Dalek complete with voice changer, and  several of the Doctor who cast in person. I think the most recent very cool and stand out thing I did was when I sang duel of the fates at a public concert in full Jedi regalia, complete with light saber. The choir wasn't supposed to dress up, and I was the only person who did, but yee gods it was worth doing, and the Jedi costume I got was pretty damn awesome! Also, this year I got my phd, which also meant dressing up in robes, though not imho as cool ones as the jedi robes, and this was more a matter of "well about bloody time" than something actively awesome, still I get some letters after my name and  insist people address me like a timelord renigade if I want .I also quite recently got to write and perform my own monologue which is being published in a volume of monologues. That was a very cool thing to do, and a nice setup since writing is what I most want to do now.

What is the Coolest Experience You've Ever Had

Hi.I've had several, but I could name two experiences that stand out right now.At the time of writing this post, we're at Coco Beach in Florida, and I got to go surfing with a professional surfer/wrestler. I was laying on the board on my stomach which isn't how you're supposed to do it; you're actually supposed to stand on it, but I have terrible coordination. nevertheless, it was really fun. The guy was holding onto the board behind me so we wouldn't get separated, and we caught some pretty huge waves. I also wiped out, and it was pretty cool. I've been told the board went about three feet in the air. I went under, and I don't think I've ever been tossed and turned quite that ruff by anything in my life before today. It was really fun, but it would have been even more fun if I didn't get hurt. The water dragged me to shore really hard, so I got scuff marks on my feet. The way I hit the sand caused my tows to bend really far back too, and I've got a giant bruise which makes it hard to walk. I also panicked and sucked down a little water, which gave me a sore stomach for a few minutes. BTW, if anyone could tell me how to wipe out a little more gracefully next time that'd be appreciated. I still enjoyed my time out there though, and it made for a pretty cool video. The second experience was while I was living in Lincoln. Me and my friend were on our commencement drops, and we decided to stop by Village Inn for lunch. I was having a particularly stressful day, I got ditched by the bus and had to wait at the bus stop for two hours before another one came, (this is why I hate the bus system BTW). Thus far, my day was going horribley. Our server turned that all around. He was the best waiter I've ever had in my entire life. He had a great sense of humor, and he made sure we were taken care of. A week later I brought my parents to that restaurant to see him, and today we still keep in contact via phone and social media. I'll never forget that day when one person took my horrible day and turned it into one of the best days of my life. So, your turn. What experiences did you guys enjoy?
