Re: a question regarding hearing aids and headphones

I also have a question, as my hearing has been declining rather more than I'd like lately, and so hearing aids are something I've been thinking about. I have lost quite a bit of my ability to hear high frequencies on my left side, yet I really don't want to just get one aid, that just sounds kinda weird to me. I would rather have two, just because my right ear isn't so great either... But my question is this. How will my directional hearing be impacted if I do that? Or is that even a problem? From my understanding, when wearing an aid you are left with just the input from its microphone. If I had one aid for my left ear, that ear would be able to hear normally. Combined with my right ear, which is significantly better, I should still be able to tell from where things are coming from and where they are in relation to me. But if I have both aids, all I have is amplified sound in both ears, right? Or do they relate to each other and give you, I guess, a stereo experience? Also, How will things like distance work? Will I still be able to hear how far or close something is to me, say, when using my cane to bounce sound waves off a building, or analyzing near and far parallel traffic at an intersection? Since hearing aids amplify sound, won't they eventually ruin your hearing even more?  Sorry if this is a lot, and for taking the discussion off topic slightly, or if any of these questions are rather dumb lol, but I'm just trying to get as much information as I can here before I go and buy a pair, @6, that was helpful. Thank you.

Re: a question regarding hearing aids and headphones

Hello, the streamer is a device that work with the hearing aid to connect to computers and phones using bluetooth or cord.  hearing aids can have different accessories that work with them, I suggest trying to find something that is compatible with your hearing instrument.

I too don't use head phones while using my aids. I how ever use a Jabra headphone when I am not using my aids. My headphones can get loud enough to here everything nicely.

Re: a question regarding hearing aids and headphones

Hearing aid user myself.  No, I don't use them when I'm doing anything with headphones/earbuds, which is why I'm so picky about headphones/earbuds to begin with, but my hearing loss is not related to any particular illness/disease/syndrome but owing to a lot of things that just happened to align properly to get me here, ranging from my love of music and sound, audio production and equipment and loud concerts and performances as well as multiple ear infections and tons of antibiotics.  Oh, and a cousin of mine stuck an unpopped popcorn kernel in my right ear while I was sleeping which had to surgically come out.My issue with hearing aids and the reason I don't make use of them as much as I probably should is the lack of proper representation of the world around me... I hate hearing things through an aid.  That being said, I do have my preferences.  Behind the ear aids as far as I'm concerned provide the best audio you're going to get.  Yes, they are a bit more visible than the in-ear shells most people are opting for nowadays, but if audio matters to you, I think you'll prefer a behind-the-ear model.  They're more visible because the whole thing is bigger, which allows for a better mic, and if the mold is fitted properly in your ear you'll usually get a fairly good sound you can then have the audiologist tweak a bit more to fit your needs.here in the states, you'll more than likely either go resound or Starkey; both have useful features and are constantly improving.  Resound pairs more nicely with Apple products than Starkey models do, actually giving you the ability to use Siri from the aid.  Starkey seems a bit more intent on analyzing your environment and tweaking the aid for you via AI and your personal performance and give you access to things like language translation, fall sensors, realtime notifications of calls, text and emails on your smartphone.  Both offer bluetooth streaming.  Both offer rechargable batteries.  Both have smartphone apps, though I cannot vouch for accessibility on either brand as I personally use neither, though I freely admit my ears are itching gfor a Resound makeover.

Re: a question regarding hearing aids and headphones

Wow. I also have that. It's progressed to the point that I use a cochlear implant now though as hearing aids weren't really helping anymore. They've always been the type that go behind the ear. Before things got really bad I could use headphones without them. My first pair had telephone coils, so I would turn on telephone mode and put the headphones near them. The downside was that I couldn't hear anything else. Later on when I got new hearing aids without telephone coils, I just wore my headphones so that the band was on my forehead and the headphones were on the sides of my head near the hearing aid microphones. My implant has a little microphone that goes near the opening of the ear, so I can now wear them normally. I can still use the old trick to use the other microphones though if something's too quiet for that microphone.

Re: a question regarding hearing aids and headphones

Hi,The only reliable way I've found to amplify sound coming through headphones is to use an attachment called Streamer Pro. Sometimes what I'll do is wear my earbuds over my hearing aids since mine are open fit hearing aids. That does work if you position the earbud properly for the hearing aid mic to pick it up, but if you want direct amplification you need to use the attachment.

Re: a question regarding hearing aids and headphones

Hi, fellow person with nori syndrome here, and I have almost the exact issues you described, although my right ear isn't quite as bad as yours. It has progressively been getting worse though, and I've been looking into hearing aid options myself. While I can't exactly give you any of the answers you're looking for here, I'll be interested to see what others have to say on the subject.

a question regarding hearing aids and headphones

Good evening everyone. So as some of you might know, I have a hearing impairment in my right ear. I can still hear something if a sound source is right next to my ear, but farther away than about 10 centimetres, depending on the volume of the sound, things get difficult. Also when wearing headphones, if voices come out of the right channel, I can barely understand them. Quiet sounds as you have in some audio games like step sounds are completely quiet to me, if you remember this three lane people punching game by Yukio, I can't hear if an enemy is approaching on the right when I have my headphones on.it's something I can't change and which is related to the syndrom that is responsible for me beeing Blind, it's called Norrie syndrome, pritty unknown, but a mean little mother fucker. But, that's not the point. I have a question to those who are wearing hearing aids. Do you use them if you are wearing headphones and did this improve your perception of sounds that you couldn't hear before? I don't yet one have a hearing aid, and while I still can manage to do everything I want, an aid might prove benefitial to me.So, if you could tell me abit about your experiences, this would be quite awesome. I am only looking for headphone and hearing aid answers, stuff taking part away from the computer should be pritty self explaining. Thanks in advance.Greetings Moritz.
