Re: accessible twitch chat solution suggestion

@trentonThe client I mention in the first post, Mega Irc, is accessible, once some preconfiguration is done to it - see the PG13 version of it on the page I link to. Unfortunately, I dont know how to get a standard version working (so it doesnt connect to their server by default). Once thats achieved, I can probably connect and do the rest from there but I@m not entirely sure. Thanks for the recommendation though.

Re: accessible twitch chat solution suggestion

Ah, thats why its an extension/addon.With chatzilla particularly, you can type:irc://irc.someStrangeSever.org/room, and it goes straight to the chatzilla client.Havent tried it however with BirdIRC yet. It opens a chat in a non-html window.

Re: accessible twitch chat solution suggestion

@trentonThanks for the response and Ill have a look at Chatzilla. However, I would prefer an out-of-browser solution such as the theoretical one proposed in my first post.

Though, as i use Chrome OS on my Acer Chromebook 11, I cant claim they are blind-friendly or not.

accessible twitch chat solution suggestion

accessible twitch chat solution suggestion

Recently, Ive been hearing that there are blind and visually impaired people wanting to interact with fighting game streams on twitch, chatting and exchanging conversation etc with the community. I am also one of those people and myself have been digruntled with this situation that has been an underlying issue with the system for a good while. However, for a while Ive been looking around for a solution that is accessible for those using screen reading software and I have a theory as to how such a thing can be achieved.I know that twitch has chat functionality that can tie into IRC, found here, but the clients they suggest are either paid or inaccessible. After looking around, I found this page, which has an accessible client on it.My theory is this:If I knew what lines to change,
or if there was a separate application coded to allow you to enter the information and have it alter the file accordingly, people could log into twitch and communicate via an accessible method.I also found this blog post which details extra information about the chat system, as well as this from the twitch website, which I think is slightly different but along the same linesI will start by saying that, currently at least, I cant code this kind of thing and wouldnt know where to begin. But if someone would be willing to work on something like this it would be very useful and much appreciated. It would be of benefit, amongst others, to not only those who wish to simply chat on twitch, but who wish to interact with their own audience on stream as well if they have their own channel.I hope this proposed solution will be consider
ed fairly and as a viable idea, as I believe it could be a long-term way of solving the problem of the ease-of-use of twitch chat.

Re: accessible twitch chat solution suggestion

@robjoyI believe the client on that page is MegaIrc, which does require some configuration to get speech working. This is why I suggested reconfiguring the existing version, as that has speech working with it on its own.I know there are a lot of IRC clients - mIRC is actually not free, as far as I can tell - MegaIrc seems like the only one that doesnt have a load of other features that wouldnt be needed - Miranda is an example of the kind of thing that I believe should best be avoided in this situation. Also, Im on windows, so a linux solution isnt much use to me at least If you have any other suggestions though as to a road to go down - how to configure Mega irc from the portable version, for example, let me know - post instructions here maybe? Thanks for responding so quickly and for your information. Correct me if I
;m wrong about anything as well, its just an idea rather than anything else.

Re: accessible twitch chat solution suggestion

Hi,The IRC interface is accessible to any IRC client. Therefore, any accessible IRC client should work. We have a lot of those, including Miranda, MegaIRC, MIRC, Instantbird, as well as Adium or Textual for OsX or Irssi, Pidgin, Empathy on Linux. There are other accessible clients too.As long as you know the address to connect to, it should work fine.By default, nIRC, the client that Ghorthalon is using, allows you to specify an address and port to connect to. If you have a NodeJS server, you should have no issues with it.Hth,Rob
