There are also acts that allow blind people to strip drm from protected books from commercial market, since, for example on Amazon, publishers may opt out of distributing books with text to speech. It's twisted, though, that such an act exist, but it's illegal for such drm removal software to be created, so the argument still exists as to which act prevails in whichever situation. Put simply, drm blows, end of story. Turn to the Free Software Foundation, they're doing the best they can to put up a strong front against drm. Drm or no drm, though, blind people don't have the kind of copyright exemption that you described. Make no mistake about it, we aren& #039;t entitled! to free stuff just because we're blind. Don't take any of it for granted. Should an ignorant President redo copyright, Bookshare could be forced to fold. Sure, NLS is always free but provided the Government keeps funding it! I know, equal access is supposed to be a right, and not a privilege, but as far as copyright is concerned, it's just harsh reality. That Quote on Quote Company has violated several laws, if what you're saying is accurate. As far as I'm aware, they don't claim taxes, they don't actual have any copyrights on their stuff, because, it's made in a scripting language, Autoit, which, therefore makes it elligal to sell the product, as auto-it's license says that the language will not be used to create programs that will modify files that are copyrighted by another corperation. Windows, is, copyrighted by Microsoft, so, that would be enough to get a loss suit going. He has no right to charge for his services, unless he decides to change what his company does. Winstaller, is, in it's own right, regardless of language coded in, is a violation of Microsoft's copyright terms. Thisis all hypocritical. Furthermore, Levtec has scammed several people. If this were a linux utility, selling would be legal, but, since it modifies microsoft windows installers, it is not legal to sell, much less, use for comercial use. Unless you missed earlier posts, that should be easy enough to understand. In order for the bios to be editable in windows, or any other operating system installed on the system, the firmware needs to be designed to be editable by software. At this point, Toshiba is the only windows box I'm aware of that can manage that. Other than that, it, just, doesn't, work. If this is still over your head, just think of the bios as part of the hardware, because in a way it is, it's inside the motherboard, not the hard drive. If the bios was software or located on the hard drive of the computer, and the hard drive failed which is one big reason to go into the bios, you'd be, um, screwed. Sure, we have exceptions like some software Toshiba puts into their oem to control the boot order, but that is simply the way the oem was built, and that is most definitely using software implementation. The bios isn't even part of windows, it's the low-level hardware structure of a computer. It's the literal firmware, not the software, on the computer. It's what you get when there's no operating system installed, and, as low-level as it is, there is no soundcard support, no support for software, and it can't be controlled by software, because it is completely, utterly and totally outside of the ecosystem of any software operating system on the computer. The only surefire way to use the bios would be if 1 there was an industry standard, and 2 we had something like a morse code b eeping pattern with the pc speaker. Only problem with that, you could end up having to pick up a pc speaker from a store that sells parts, or rip one out of an old ocmputer, as systems are starting to get rid of the low-level pc speakers. Nevertheless, if such a beeping pattern was in place, there could be possible work-arounds if the system didn't have a pc speaker built in. You could connect one yourself, or have someone help you. Bottom line, there is no possibility, at least that I'm aware of, to actually go to the extent of controlling the bios. My reasons are as follows:* Winstaller was made exclusively based on open source software, and/or software that was made available under a non-restrictive license.* Levtek, the company, does not have a registered corporate entity in either the US or the UK (the US entity is entirely unrelated to anything accessible and located in New York.* In the event this individual had thought to register his so-called business in either the UK or the US, he is engaged in several less than legal practices - including, but not limited to, breach of contract, failure to render services paid, etc.* Disagreement with this unregistered entity's practices is considered a violation of your user license, at which point your service is suspended and you are met with legal threats, or in some cases bogus DMCA claims as displayed above (see also: invalid and very likely not even registered copyrights).* In short, Levi Johnson is a classic troll, and deserves to be called out for being a classic troll in any way, shape or form that is reasonable.He will very likely ignore any and all attempts to educate him on exactly what laws he's breaking. As such, I wholeheartedly support ignoring the copyright/trademark claims he will no doubt continue to fail to enforce in any way that reasonably matters.
