Re: himachi alternative

Yeah, its time to step up to the plate, and/or replace your router with one that will let you do it, I think. Hamachi was nice but unless you really, really, really cant endure management of your router, thats overkill.Did you find your router in Control Panel?

Re: himachi alternative

Its for gaming purposes. The reason why im using himachi is to avoid having to do port forwarding.

Re: himachi alternative

@VictoriousIt depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If you need a secure way to use a wireless access point, or use your home IP remotely I think the best shot is SoftEther VPN which can be found at www.softether.org.Its cross platform and opensource.Another more esoteric alternative is setting up a Tor hidden service with a SSH server. You can then use your home connection or remotely control your computer via Tor, which is very cool.

himachi alternative

Does anyone know of an accessible, free and easy to use himachi alternative? Ive tried pretty hard to find one, but the ones that Ive found require complex setup.

Re: himachi alternative

If this is for gaming purposes, then unless you want to play across a LAN using a dumb public rendezvous server such as that operated by VIPGamesZone, then you have no real need for Hamachi, and its time to start learning how to knock holes in your firewall/NAT box. If you arent comfortable doing this using the web interface, then if you have UPnP/NAT-PMP/PCP turned on, you may be able to use a port mapping tool for your platform, such as the built-in Windows UPnP/IGD client, to forward the ports on a temporary basis. This doesnt work for anything but the simplest cases however, EG you want to run a game server 24/7, in which case you will need to make arrangements to reserve a DHCP-assigned address for your computer and add an explicit mapping for the ports in use that forward to that server. The process for doing this is, sadly, different for every brand of router.
