Re: list of accessible games for android

It is not generally true that only samsung has been advanced in terms of accessibility. Google is constantly working at it and gets even better. And another reason for me to switch over from an Iphone to android is that I am not sticking to only one speech engine or screen reader. There are a lot of different systems for the blind going around in android. Theres talkback, theres the new and rappidly improving screen reader shineplus, wich can be turned on and off without difficulties, even mobile accessibility has been updated, wich combines a screen reader and a little program suite. And another approach to this topic are closed systems like Blind navigator or blind comunicator, equal eyes or the blind shell, wich are complete program suites and can be used as launchers if you prefer. There are even modular systems like Project ray or georgie. Sure, the suites are another kind of aid, but if anyone looks for something very easy to use or has difficulties to use the an
droid UI, it has advantages for them. In terms of speech engines, there are Vocalizer, eloquence, acapella, Svox, svox pico, the Google TTS, Espeak and some other wich can be used system wide. Just to sheet some light onto the actually existing offerings of android in this term. That where reasons enough for me to switch.

Re: list of accessible games for android

The main reason why developers dont care about Android really, is because iOS is supposibly the dominating operating system in North America. Its not just in the blindness community people think that way...For example, Gorth was streaming GTA 5 on a Galaxy S6 2 days ago. One reason holding me back on getting an iPhone though, is Delight Games, mainly do to the fact that Zombie High 9 is coming out soon, and Delight Games on Androind/Windows Phone, well... What adventures that girl Jane is having! Im still on Zombie High 3 though...The iOS version hasnt been updated since Oct. 2014, least the iTunes description hasnt.

Re: list of accessible games for android

Well Trenton I cant speak for os domination and anyone who knows my opinion of Ios knows I am not an Apple worshipper, however one thing I wil say is having a screen reader built natively into the os has made a major! difference to availability of accessible games sinse it means developers can just output text to a screen reader and test things out. King of Dragon pass, which ranks as one of the best and most complex accessible games available for any system, A dark room and The Ensign, lost cities, and most recently Adventure to Fate battle arena, games where some! of the game is accessible, heck according to Touchmint who developed adventure to fate writing information on buttons and controls to specifically output to voiceover is as simple as filling in a box on a property sheet. That is a major advantage in terms of game access before you start, and I have heard talkback support is more difficult, though Im not certain on that one. Of course there are
also more natively written self voicing for Is such as those from somethinelse, and the reason for that I do not know unless its maybe that with vo being built into the os developers have recognized there is more of a blind audience on Ios, hence why more audiogames are made for the platform, though that equally doesnt explain the number of pure audiogames which have nothing to do with the blind community at all and are just experiments in game design like Soul trapper and blindside. There are certainly some! games for Android, indeed some Ive rather fancied myself like cyber knights, pirates and traders and random adventure. Im hoping the delight games premium edition access for Ios will be fixed as the developer stated a few weeks ago, sinse Im eager to try the games, and I did after all pay for the damnable thing .I recall he s
tated that deep space huntress was okay, but Id prefer to wait to get the hole lot. Perhaps the developer could be given a gentle nudge on this subject.

Re: list of accessible games for android

Unfortunately Fabi is right, Android is rather lacking in audiogames, especially the really huge well made ones. This is exactly why I bought an Iphone myself, there are not only .far more games available but also some well established companies making new audiogames for the platform on a regular basis.Feel free to experiment or play graphical games and guess at sound effects if you wish, and let us know how that goes, though Id still suggest if you can getting an Ipad or Iphone if you want most access to games.

Re: list of accessible games for android

As far as Im aware, talkback support isnt really necessary for games in android, because you can have it send messages right to the android text to speech system the way Ghorthalon does it. In droidflip, in the old days when I didnt have android in anything but the emulator, the only thing I saw of the game was that time where it said, Please note, if youre running a screenreader, please disable it now. tap the screen ton continue. which was sent right to the text to speech system. Presumably the menu which mustve been a flick up and down thing, and the rest of the games messages were all read out by android speech disbatcher rather than talkback itself. Its very easy to make this support in games, just including some speech lines in the code where necessary. Apple just now allowed developers access to their tts system. While voiceover has direct support for shouting messages out that programs give it, androids direct tex
t to speech support for that kind of thing is just the same as with voiceover. As for why ios is the dominating platform, it can only be summed up as the fact that Apple computers of any sort have existed sense 1982 with the Apple2c or apple2e computers, then came mac osx, then came many more things, then came the iphones in 2007. Basically, people go straight to the iphone because they strongly believe Apple to give them satisfaction right off. Google, on the other hand, has existed sense 1998 and was just a search engine to begin with, but then became a wide range of services, but no official software was made. Android was their first piece of software. Sure, Droid OS *I actually mean droid os* did exist back in 2006 but then google bought it and basically started from the beginning in 2009. What makes people shifty about android is that this is their first operating system theyre making, and they say its an experiment. That it may be, but Google is progressively getti
ng better with their accessibility. You see Apple making all these accessibility downhills in some ios versions, while google keeps getting better with talkback. But people and developers dont give android much attention and not as much credit that it deserves.

Re: list of accessible games for android

Hello.I think Android audiogames are not developed for lack of interest.@jack I humbly believe that Samsung is constantly improving in terms of accessibility, not Google. For example, in the Nexus or Motorolas, one can not build the desktop itself, or is very difficult to turn Talk Back for the first time without receiving visual aid.In contrast, the Samsung S6 one active Talk Back and the Iphone by pressing the home button 3 times.I have had Motorola and now I use a Samsung S5, and the difference in favor of Samsung is very large.Greetings and thanks.

Re: list of accessible games for android

H, Jack I wouldnt site apples existance as a company since 1982 or the existance of the early apple machines as really to do with the audiogames situation. After all its not as if there are a hole lot of audiogames available for the Mac. Id also be wary of comparing availability of audiogames on a system to how well that system does among sighted customers, after all by that logic games consoles like the playstation should be full! of audiogames. I do recall at one point two problems with Android speech support were its displaying of html pages in anything other than chrome, and the issue that there were so many phones and other devices running android you couldnt guarantee access to even bog standard parts of the interface like mail and basically had to download and build your entire system yourself, or even that you could setup talkback, look at Fabis comments on Samsung. While I imagine both of these are ea
sily fixable issues, or indeed might not be issues anymore (even at the time I do recall it was sighted the html problem would be fixed in the next version of the os), unfortunately if native support is more difficult for developers its less likely to happen, especially compared with how dam easy it is to get vo to speak details on standard Ios controls as I said. Hopefully things will pick up for Android now these issues are fixed, though Ios has certainly got quite the headstart as far as games go. Im also not exactly sure what you mean by down hill in terms of accessibility sinse Im working on the latest Ios 8.41 at the moment and not noticing any issues at all. My only annoyence with Ios access is that I wish there was a better system for folder creation and moving icons around than the double tab and drag method. itd be far better if it was the windows style create a folder and then two keys cut and paste. I can see why Apple ha
ve made it this way, sinse it basically has vo just speak what happens when a sighted person shoves icons around, but this is one area where an accessible alternative like the use of the item finder or of icon flicking, neither of which are available to sighted users wouldve helped a lot.
