Re: tarot readings Have you done readings? I mean it seems entirely possible, you'd want good image descriptions obviously, since the tarot is so pictorial. But finding a decent book would give you those. I got introduced to runes pretty early on in my paganism, and they seem to work for me. They're more, I don't know what the word is, you need to do more interpretation with them maybe. For instance, if you get isa, ice, you have less to work with, in some ways, than a tarot card, because they're pretty rich with image detail, usually.But that's sort of deceptive, because we have some potential sources of information, notably a few rune poems. The Old English one mentions ice as a "floor", which means you can cross it, though it also mentions that it's slippery. Now this is important because there are books on runes that see ice as a stopping, as a freezing of plans/situations. It could be obviously, but as we can see from the poem, there are other interpretations. You can also get into ice in Germanic myth, so there's a lot of stuff to draw on.I think the runes also interest me more than tarot for that reason, I already had a lot of familiarity with the ideas because of my long-time interest in mythology. Tarot was just a whole different set of stuff. But it might be interesting to grab a braille deck and play with it. I'd also like to get the Yijing brailled, because that can be pretty useful. You can cast the hexagrams with coins but I actually managed to track down a set of yarrow stalks. It's a lot longer than runes but really interesting. Then again, getting anything brailled is crazy expensive, from what I've seen. So I'd probably have to just get the basic hexagrams and stuff brailled, and skip whole books or any of the commentaries. Re: tarot readings I've never used tarot, though I did hear of a braille deck once. I've done runes (Elder Futhark), Yijing (I Ching), mala divination (a mala is a set of beads used in Hinduism and Buddhism to count mantras, sort of like a rosary), and kazhuk, Tuvan sheep bone dice. I'm familiar with tarot and have done a bit of reading on it, mostly "The Book of Thoth", but it seemed pretty visual for my taste, really heavily based on images. Because of that I never really pursued it seriously, beyond reading. Sacred Texts doesn't seem to have "The Book of Thoth", so it might still be under copyright, though it's hard to say, sometimes it just doesn't have things. Looking around for braille decks, the Rider-Waite braille deck seems to be out of stock everywhere, but these people will braille decks for you, apparently.
