Ok, then let's say your grandmother routinely builds and sells computer systems :) Basically, I know computers but nothing about audio. I've been reading this forum but, as I said in my first post, a lot of it is over my head. I don't even know what the difference between an amp and a pre-amp is. I have a lot of friends that are looking for a whole house audio solution, and I think Slimserver/Squeezebox would be great for them. I am looking at the Hush mini-ITX fanless PC for a server: http://www.logicsupply.com/product_info.php/cPath/49/products_id/248 and I think the Nokia 777 would make a great remote, thanks to skin designed by bklass and described in this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=19369 . But, once I get the server, wireless network w/ squeezeboxes, and remote set up, what solution do I offer them to bring music to rooms that don't have an existing stereo set up? Thanks to the previous posts and other thread, I guess I'll go with the T-amp.Any recommendations for speakers? -- NWP NWP's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3730 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=22012 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: Power supply upgrade
RSS Wrote: My questions for the group are would a power supply replacement enable a higher volume setting on the SB while retaining the audio quality which is superb at the lower setting? Is the limiting factor here the power supply or SQ's amplifier? Your problem is one that is hard to make sense of, but I guess the answer is no, the power supply shouldn't affect the RCA output level. Perhaps your preamp likes a lower input voltage, in which case you need attenuation (lowering the RCA output level) of some sort. As an experiment you can go to player settings in slimserver and set attenuation to say 20db, then check volume settings 35-40 on the SB to see if you notice change... -- Skunk Skunk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2685 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=20844 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Is your desired result: a/ One squeezebox with the same music in multiple rooms. b/ Multiple squeezeboxen with unique music in each room. a/To get music to rooms with no system, typically the easiest way is to run SB to one centrally located receiver with multiple speaker outputs, and speaker wire to in-wall speakers throughout the house. b/Basically you can't have one squeezebox with multiple amp/speaker setups in seperate rooms, because RCA signals don't travel as well as speaker signals. Having more than one squeezebox is the way to get unique music in each room- but you have to get a SB/amp/speaker setup for each room. -- Skunk Skunk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2685 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=22012 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

I run my SB2 into the digital input of my Cary 303/200 player. It is clearly better sounding than using the analog outs on the SB2, but then it should be as it cost me about 5x the cost of the SB2. -- rblnr rblnr's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4504 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=17948 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] SQB Performance Tuning
I am sure dropouts are every Audiophile's worst enemy. One thing I have not seen much information about is how to optimize Slimserver's settings for large audio collections and to eliminate the possibility of dropouts. I was inexplicably experiencing some issues (despite the performance measurements telling me I have great performance - the buffers are full, server latency is near minimal), which I have momentarily resolved through re-scanning the library (not that the songs were ever missing) and through changing the Build Items per Pass to 10 and the DB cache to 30 - anyone else changed any parameters to improve reliability? -- pablolie pablolie's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3816 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=22043 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: Power supply upgrade
I've read this and the other historical threads on power supplies, and now I am totally confused. So, I'm going to ask my question of the electrical engineer/audiophile types out there: Does a linear regulated power supply (vs. a switching-type, as included with the SB) affect the sound quality of the digital-out, the analog-out, or both? I've seen it written both ways in these forums, hence my confusion. I have the Super-T in my bedroom setup with Totem Arro's and think it sounds great. Musical, great soundstage, more than enough bass, great clarity without fatigue. Love it. Totem makes other speakers (bookshelf) maybe worth looking at in your case, and I've seen good reviews of the Triangle line and Opera's, altho I've heard neither. The SB and Super-T also sound absolutely amazing with my Amphion Argons. Amphion also has other speakers in their line-up, more or less expensive; the Argons are about in the middle I think. -- joncourage joncourage's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2837 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=22012 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
