If they add newly installed programs to the launcher, then a new lens
would just be redundant and clutter.

with an animation to show you where it went. I know there's an option to move 
an app to the launcher now, but having it by default will make it easier for 
new users.

Hi Martin, hope things are going well.

I notice when initially opening the unity lens with +A and apps
that I've recently used are at the top and "Installed Apps is below"
if I expand that by clicking See all  apps, all my apps are listed
and it stays expanded the next time I use unity.

You can also get to this list by using  then clicking on "More Apps"
