There were cases that some people to emigrate to Brasil from Portugal, when Brasil was still portuguese colony, they needed passports. I believe this translates to Certificate for overseas, the date, etc. My question, would this have been needed if he/she/they travelled to another Portuguese entity? I ask this because I am told this person came to the US on a ship he owned and returned to Portugal and I am trying to find out if this is the truth as that would then give the the date of this travel. Would Lisbon have issued a Passporte before they left, and how would I get a copy of this, for either of these people born in Lisbon. Thanks. [AZORES-Genealogy] Rio Janiero
On my grandmother US marriage record, it says she was born in Rio Janiero. Well, I am absolutely sure she was NOT born in Rio de Janeiro. Any place in the Azores this could have been? Oh, by the way, her father was Antonio Victor and the marriage record says her father is Victor da Costa Machado...anyone have him in their records? We think the children went to live with a Machado family after their father died. On my grandmother's sisters US marriage record, it says the father is Manuel Victor; but her baptism record says Antonio Victor! They both have the mother's name correct...thank goodness!
