Know this is totally off subject, but this happens so rarely, it is SNOWING in Folsom (Sacramento area), California. LOVE IT!! So if any of you are coming up this way, be aware of these conditions. Don't know how long it will last but this Eastern girl is certainly enjoying it at 3 am in the morning!! I am new - I am very interested in the DNA - how does one go about it? My grandfather was Francisco Da Silva from Mosteiros, Sao Miguel, Azores - I have been able to go back to the early 1700 in the same village. It's snowed in Pleasanton, all the hills around are covered almost down to the valley floor. My wife was swimming this morning about 5:30 and was snowed on in the pool. I think it was 1976 last time the Bay area got snow at sea level. Yes my Great Grandmother Alexandria was born Feb 28 1907, ( I think she was the baby of the family and I think she was born a twin but the twin died I am not sure because I have never seen her birth certificate only what she has told us). She came to America when she was about 13 and according to the ship records she was born in Capelas her sister Francelina came with her and she was 16 all I know about her is that she was born in 1904 in Bretanha there mother was with them Maria Isabelle Vital nee Cabral she was born around 1872. There were other sisters as far as I know Maria, Louisa and Sofia. Jacinto was there father and settled in California before he sent for them. My Great Grandmother Alexandria met my Great Grandfather Joseph Texeira (born July 14, 1899) in Oakland, Ca. Hi, I am new to the group. I am hoping that someone can point me in the right direction. My grandfather, Jose A. Medeiros (1898-1979) came to the US from Faial when he was about 7. I only know that they came into the Boston area and then traveled by train to the west coast. How do I, or where can I, find the ship that they came on? Ellen, If you want to test from your Francisco da Silva line, you will need the son of the son of the son from him (basically, his grandson or great-grandson). All men, all the way back to Francisco. Jacki, You will need to check the Boston arrivals as well as the Ellis Island arrivals. More info on how to do that can be found here: http://homepage.mac.com/kmacardoza/Genealogy/HowTo.html (Scroll down to Passenger Arrival Lists.) Records from the Azores are starting to come online, but nothing from Faial yet. Once you exhaust your U.S. sources, you might consider hiring a researcher to look at the port of Horta, Faial, in their ships lists leaving the Azores.
