Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Passports from Sao Jorge
Thanks Fred That bit about crossing the equator and the payment for a burial rings a bell with me now. My Grandmother used to tell me something similar but she also told me lots of things that have turned out to be wrong. I thought there might be something specific to the Azores about boys wearing earrings. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Azores old pics
It is so interesting to see these pictures and the consideration that they are around 40 years old. Much of this is the same, yet different as there has been 40 years of progress and today, particularly in Ponta Delgada, the tourist industry is thriving, cars travel on wonderful roads and the advances have been phenomenal. Those who have been there recently might want to share some of those pictures to present the contrast, and I am only sorry that I didn't take more pictures when there. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] MEDEIROS TAVARES
RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] clarification of translation - Santa Maria
Shirley and Cheri; Thanks to both of you for helping me with this one. I do have a couple more questions though. Do you have any idea why they have indicated a date after the priest's name? I have not seen this before. Also, at the bottom it says something like: they were joined in marriage on the 3rd of the current month but; at the top it says the 7th. Which date were they actually married? I have usually seen at the bottom something like it was as above on the current day, month and year. I have also asked someone else for his ideas on the above but; thought it wouldn't hurt to see what others had to say so, any help you can give would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Sam in CA (for 2 more days!) He ran the de into consan which is then continued on the next line. They are 3rd cousins. The date in the middle after the Lord Bishop's name is 63. He misspelled 60 (cesenta instead of sessenta or sesenta (another misspelling or old spelling)). See your date in the top line of the document. I'll think about those occupations after the names of the fathers. I have an idea they are day laborers. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Family Tree mechanics and design
Hi E I do not believe the Family search site will charge. I just learned that pretty soon the new.familysearch.org will go public. You will see family trees entered by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints worldwide. I don't know for sure if it has been released but I've been on it as a family history consultant where I live. I believe they now have an international office in Ireland. Also, will be interesting what, if any, changes will be made if/when they are bought out. I have enjoyed using Ancestry.com for many years now but this will be my last renewal as I don't use it in my research anymore, mainly to help others on this list and other lists and it is no longer cost effective for me. Now that FHC is putting many of its records on line I use it more and more as a resource, free for now, but wonder if it will remain the same in the future. From what I understand, only those at the FHC (Family History Centers) have been able to access the newer site (probably as beta testers).
